This just told us EVERYTHING about his future…

The Toronto Raptors took a homerun swing at the end of last year’s NBA draft selecting Ulrich Chomche with the final pick in the NBA draft, and despite being injured to close off the year, Masai Ujiri had a lot to say about his future with the organization. Ben Rogers breaks it down.

  1. Honestly even if we get a center, it shouldn’t affect Chomche.

Mogbo is better suited on the Wing, and Jakob is the oldest player demanding minutes on the roster (and has an injury history).

Masai understands how valuable the center position is, and Chomche was always gonna be a project. My guess is if the team can afford to keep him (in terms of roster spots/ injuries), they will 100%

  2. For me, we draft a Center regardless (depending on draft position). Even if Comche comes up, having Poeltl Maluach and Comche is a good problem to have. A lot of insurance there and a lot better than playing Siakam at the 5 anyway

  3. Ulrich was never expected to be in the mix this season either way. I always saw him as a 2026 season addition. I don’t see why he can’t come in as at least a 3rd stringer in the 2026 season. First off we don’t know if they will being Chris back and if they don’t there’s playing time there for Mogbo who Darko said is a 4 in this league and not a Center. Also you never know who we draft and how they play in their rookie season. Let’s say we draft maluach or Queen and they are just too good to be a back up for the 2026 season like the Barnes pick. This means Jakob could very well be a trade option because he’s up for a contract renewal soon and he’s expected to make even more money. What I’m saying is if we draft a player that’s in the convo for even runner up for rookie of the year then that player can step in as the starting 5 on rookie deal and that can make Jakob expandable instead of paying him more money. A lot can happen depending on who we draft, what position they play, and how quickly they hit the ground running.

  4. Cooper Flagg would be awesome but is an extreme long shot. Malauch is far more likely to be our pick. Everything I've seen and read, is that he is a diamond in the rough that Masai and Bobby look for. I think there is plenty of room on the team for another big. I'm hoping that our coaches can develop his long range shooting turning him into a dynamic stretch big. There are rumours that some of the biggest stars are up for grabs this summer that could prove interesting as Masai has put this team in a great position to trade or facilitate a multi-team trade. I can't wait for the summer league and seeing what comes in the off-season. It would just suck if the usual 6 big coastal markets keep getting all the big names. Let's go Raps!!! We the North!

  5. The way I took Masai’s comment was more so if the best player available is a point guard, we’re not going to avoid taking him just cause we already have IQ. I personally think raps interest in maluach is being overstated cause he’s African.

  6. If they move up in the lottery then the pick will not be a C. But then trades will be needed and that's how they get another big. The team will find a backup big somehow.

  7. Ulrich can play the PF. He’s so fast, probably the fastest PF or centre in the entire NBA. Which says a lot. He’s a A+ athlete. 6’10 with 7’4 wing span.
Khaman Maluach and Ultich chamche both played together at the same time in Africa. Khaman at the centre and ulrich at the PF. Imagine a line up with mogbo at SF, shead PG and gradey sg, that’s a lot of size. Amazing youth. We also got Jacobe on the bench to. The depth is wild now

  8. If the raptors move up into the top 4. Picks 3 or 4. I can see us trading down with whoever dropped out of the top 3. Utah, New Orleans or Washington. Most of them have multiple first round picks this year. The draft is fkin stacked even from pick 15-35
Carter Bryant, Rasheer Fleming, Thomas sorber , Nolan traore, Danny wolf, there’s so much depth it’s disgusting. If there’s any year to have multiple first round picks it’s this season.
Brooklin has 4 first round picks this year. If we jump up I would love to see us trade with one of these teams and get Even more depth. If we hit a home run here in this draft we could have one of the deepest teams in the nba next year. Don’t forget we have Brandon Ingram coming in. He’s an all star level talent. Nevermind that iq barely played this year. The raptors will make it to round two next season if healthy. And it all starts with drafting an elite big man for the future. It’s either Maluach or queen. Queen on O is elite. Awesome handles and can shoot the three really well.
He shot 48% from 3 over his last 8 games or so. The talent is undeniable. But I do kinda question his motor. Where with Khaman he’s non stop. These African players are just built differently.
Khaman is the pick, unless someone beats us to him. But don’t be surprised if we find out someone in front of us wants to take Khaman. Masai and Bobby will trade a future first and our current pick to move up to get THIER guy

  9. I've been screaming Muluach since November. Honestly, i wish we could get Queen and bet on Chomche's continued development for our defensive anchor. Hes likely gone to Philly for their rebuild, they will trade Joel in the next year or 2.

  10. Comche will be ready in 2-3 years but should still be getting runs here and there. He'll most likely be a 3rd string then slowly move into a backup Center by his 3rd/4th year. Congratulate my prediction 3-4 years from now 😅

  11. Chomche played PF alongside Maluach in the BAL. Do your research, Ben. They can easily play together and we’d have a fucking enormous team

  12. Bigs don't develop until they are older. UC will fall onto the system right when we need him in 3 years. Yak will be going out and UC will still be a baby at 22. Draft Khaman, let him cook with Yak and bring in UC in 3 years to be Khaman's back up. Keep adding sneaky little pieces and ride this core until they prove us other wise.

  13. A lot of Raptors fans were comparing Chomche to Giannis. Just like how they compared OG to Kawhi, said Siakam was a top 5 player, and said that bum Scottie was a superstar. Y'all need to seek help.
