React: San Antonio Spurs name Mitch Johnson as the new head coach
It did not take long, but soon after the San Antonio Spurs announced that Gregg Popovich was stepping aside as the head coach, the team announced Mitch Johnson as the new head coach.
Was this move anticipated? Has Mitch earned the right to become the new head coach? Will this be Mitch’s team with Popovich’s hands-off?

Gregg Popovich is an ABSOLUTE GEM of a gentleman…
We are extremely blessed to have him here in San Antonio…
And I'm totally pleased with Mitch Johnson being honored to step into into Pop's enormous shoes…
The players are happy and so the fans should not be disappointed in any kind of way that it wasn't some other coach…
Absolutely horrible decision. This guy did not earn it. This is purely a way of Pop maintaining control over coaching decisions while not being the actual coach.

As an Alabama fan, I’ve been through this. If the GOAT trust him to take over what he built, so do I.
I think that Mitch Johnson was doing exactly what his team told him to do. He was learning the ropes and following orders hopefully this upcoming year he has free reign to do what he wants.
With all these coaches and assistant coaches that deserve a chance we should have done interviews at least. If Mitch still came out as the front runner fine but still go through the process.
I'm skeptical of this decision but hopefully that Mitch can do a great job, he seams to be a wonderful person and the players like him a lot, but he made some horrible decisions during crucial moments of the games that got me thinking if we were actually tanking, hope he is gonna be able to shape this team into contending again, he's gonna need a lot of help too.

mitch is a glorified ball boy. u guys keep saying he earned it but there was no actual team success and yall keep giving him a pass because supposedly pop was giving him instructions on what to do before games but in the end its mitch on the sidelines.
