Dyson Daniels Interview on Inside the NBA after Winning Most Improved Player

Dyson Daniels is joining us. Uh yeah, we congratulate you’s most improved player. And so it’s it is it 9:00 in the morning uh in Australia now? Yeah, it is. I’m back home now. So uh 9:00 in the morning, but now it’s good to uh be named the most improved. For sure. Uh what does it mean to you and and where do in your mind were you were you the most improved? Yeah, I think so. you know, uh, obviously this is my my third year in the league and, you know, my first two being in New Orleans, you know, I I felt like I kind of went in there and wasn’t myself. I feel like I I kind of took a backseat role. Um, so I came into this third year, you know, wanting to, you know, really, you know, put my foot down and and go out there and and show what I could do and, um, you know, I think it was just a small step in the right direction this year and, you know, I feel like I got a lot more in me. Hey, uh, Shaq here, I don’t want to ask you a question. I want to congratulate you. Uh, you’re a fine young player. Respect your game. Love how you play. you play the right way. Congratulations to you and your family and much success to you, my young brother. Thanks, Shaq. Appreciate that. Uh, number one, again, congratulations. What was your first thought when you came to Atlanta? Cuz obviously when you moved to a new team, it’s like your head is kind of spinning. Where do I fit in? What was your first thought when you got came to Atlanta? Yeah, for me it was like, you know, just getting a fresh start, you know, um being in New Orleans my first two years, I wasn’t happy with how I performed and, you know, coming to Atlanta, I got the opportunity to get a fresh start, um get that starting two guard spot, you know, play alongside, you know, really good team. And um you know, I think it’s just, you know, coming in with the right mindset, you know, working hard in the offseason, having a good Olympic campaign and um coming in and, you know, going out there and being aggressive, being myself, and you know, not not caring about making mistakes. And I think that was the main thing this year is um I got trust in my coaches, trust in my teammates, and I was able to go out there and just be myself. I I do remember I think maybe the first time they gave this award or I remember a guy named Kevin Johnson won the award and he in his interview he said, “If I could win it twice, that’s when I know I’ve improved.” And so what would make you improve again from this year to the next? Yeah, I mean that’s that’s a great saying. you know, I really believe, you know, I could win this award twice cuz I know I got so much more left in me and um to show in this league and and so much more improvement. So, uh for me, you know, it’s going to be about, you know, taking that next step next year and um you know, setting new goals. You know, I want to be an all-star in this league. You know, I want to, you know, be a championship player. So, uh you know, I set the set the bar high. It’s about going out there and um you know, executing that. making the most of his opportunity in his third year in the league. 76 starts this year after 27 the first two years and rewarded with the key a most improved player. Uh congratulations again Dyson. Very happy for you and enjoy the off season. Good day, mate. That was going to happen before it was all over. All right. I didn’t think he was alone. That’s awesome. Congratulations, young gun. Yeah, that was uh that was nice and uh very happy for him. That’s uh Well, Ernie, when you don’t you say played 20 something games his first two years starts starts and now cuz you have to be in the right situation to to to win awards cuz I always tell people two things there. There there there are some guys who could have been great players who went to bad organization, had bad coaching. I truly believe that. But also, if you go to a place where you, no disrespect, they got better players in front of you, but if you don’t get to play, but the best thing happened to him was coming to Atlanta. So, he wins it and uh it wasn’t close. Uh, Zubatz was second, Cade Cunningham was third, Christian Brown uh, was fourth, and then Austin Reeves of the Lakers rounding out the top five. Now.
