NBA Playoff Series Preview New York Knicks vs Boston Celtics, Which Team Will Advance?

Welcome everybody to this ANBA playoff series preview on the Guly True Sports Network. I’m your host Mike Goodaster and today we’re going to look at the Eastern Conference semi-final series between the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics. This is a three versus two game. The winner will advance to play to winner the Indiana versus Cleveland series, which you can also find on the Grilling True Sports Network if you want to see our pick there. All right, the New York Knicks are a team that last year got beat at this point of the playoffs. They lost in the second round in an upset loss to the Indiana Pacers. The Boston Celtics, of course, won the NBA World Championship last year, and the Knicks spent their off season trying to build the perfect team to take down the Celtics. They loaded up on good defensive wings to slow down Tatum and Brown. They added a stretch big man who could pull Kristoff Porzingis away from the basket and build a dynamic offense to keep pace with the Celtics three-point garages. None of that mattered in the regular season though. The New York Knicks do or got dominated by the Boston Celtics. Their last game that these two teams played went to overtime. The other three games were massive double-digit losses for the New York Knicks. Now, Boston is not the only winning team that Tom Thibido’s squad struggled with against in the regular season. The Knicks were just 15 and 23 against teams above 500. A reminder that grit doesn’t always get the edge against talent. Now, when we look at this, those struggles along with the Celtics homecourt advantage are going to make the Knicks sizable underdogs of this series. New York may have an extra gear, though. They did beat a quality opponent in the Detroit Pistons to make it through to the second round and they played very well on the road there. Now, when we look at this game, a lot of this could be affected by injuries. I believe this. I believe at full strength the Boston Celtics would win this series comfortably. Four game sweep, win it in five. But Brown has been dealing with knee issues that have made him less than effective on both ends of the floor this season. Now, he has had some huge performances like game two against Miami when he scored 36 with Tatum missing, but that consistency has not been there. Tatum took a hard fall of his wrist early in this in that first round series. He managed to play very well after returning for game three. He’s been off the injury report, but has that bro bone bruise healed all the way yet? Because a lot of times that could be a nagging injury. Jaru Holiday has also been fighting a hamstring injury that has kept him out of the last three games of that first round series. Now, the New York Knicks are also dealing with their old aches and pains, too. Star guard Jaylen Brunson has been laboring through multiple games due to a nagging right ankle that kept them out of 15 games towards the end of the regular season. Both of these teams feature stars are willing to play through pain, though. Whichever one of them could do it better will end up advancing into the conference finals. Now, will we look at betting this series? I think New York does have some avenues to pull the upset here. The Celtics aren’t at full strength, and they have not looked as good this season as they did last year when they basically coasted to the NBA title. Mitchell Robinson could end up being an X factor in this series for the Knicks. He was only available for the last meeting between these two teams where the Knicks did keep it close, losing in overtime. He gives the Knicks some size when the Celtics go to their lineups of Porzingis and Horford. Robinson also gives the Knicks much better rim protection than Carl Anthony Towns does. New York will need to try everything they can to see what works against a great Celtics team. Josh Hart is a sneaky or is a streaky shooter and he if he can find confidence in his shot as he did during the middle of last year’s playoffs, that will create more pathways for New York to win. If Hart won’t shoot or doesn’t shoot well, then Deuce McBride will play an even bigger role for the Knicks. Now, Payton Pritchard could be the swing player in this series for Boston. The NBA sixman winner was played played off the floor last year during last year’s playoffs. You know, he’s improved as a defender, but the Knicks will still target him every time they’re out there trying to get Jaylen Brunson in a favorable matchup against him. If Pritchard can’t hold up, then his scoring ability is going to be tough to deal with. The Knicks aren’t drawing dead in this series by any means. But the Celtics are favored for a reason. They have the better defense, they have more firepower, they have better depth, and they have championship experience. The Knicks, they have too many weak points, guys, especially on defense. And the Celtics have scoring at every single position, even if they’re missing one or two of their studs. New York had have had its hands full stopping Kate Cunningham and Jaylen Duran on the pick and roll. Boston will give them an even tougher challenge at that. I think the Knicks should take a game or two, but I think the Celtics will move on in this series to face either the Cavaliers or the Pacers in the conference finals. And either one of those matchups for the Celtics with the Celt Celtics injury issues right now are going to be tough. I like the Celtics to win this series in five or six games. I would lean towards Celtics in five. I just think there’s too many defensive holes with the New York Knicks to be able to upset a team as good as the Boston Celtics. All right, guys.
