Chicago Bulls Trade Rumors Ft. Zion Williamson & Ja Morant
[Music] What’s going on, Bulls fans? Welcome into the Bulls Report. My name is Patrick Seatman, and coming up on today’s show, we’re going to be talking about the Bulls trading for two of the most well-known stars in the NBA, Zion Williamson and J Morant, as both of their names have been floated in the latest NBA trade rumors. So, does it make sense for Chicago to trade for either of these two players? But we’ll dive into it here shortly. But before we do so, with the off seasonason finally here for the Chicago Bulls, what is one move the Bulls need to make this off seasonason? It could be ressigning Josh Giddy, could be letting Giddy go, trading Kobe White. What is one move that’s on the top of your mind that the Bulls need to make this off seasonason? Maybe it’s trading for Zion or John Morant. But you guys, please let me know your thoughts down below on one move the Bulls need to make this off season. All right, let’s dive into it. First off, we’re going to start off with Zion Williamson here. Um, as he is heavily reported to be on the trade block heading into this summer. Now, he was on the trade block last summer before the Pelicans made a plethora of moves even in season, the Pelicans ended up trading Brandon Ingram. But the one consistent name that has been floated around the, you know, the Pelicans trade front is Zion. And actually, there was a major rumor we got about a month ago, right when the the Pelican season ended, that the Pelicans ownership could mandate a Zion trade this off season. So, clearly they’re frustrated with what’s been going on with Zion. I mean, he was the number one overall pick, had all types of hype. I mean, he probably has the best high school highlight mixtape ever out across or across every single player that has played high school basketball. But the biggest reason why the Pelicans ownership is incredibly frustrated with Zion is he just hasn’t played a lot of basketball. I mean, even just looking back at the years he has played a lot, like 61 games in 2020, 70 games in 2023, but that’s the most he’s ever played. But then we have years where he’s just non-existent. Like in his rookie campaign, only playing 24 games, 2021, 22, no games at all. And then 29 games in 22 23 and then just 30 games this past season. And so he’s really only had two out of his six years where he is a consistent impact for this Pelicans roster. And they actually agreed to give him that 5-year $197 million deal. So that means his contract cap hits for the next three seasons. In 25 he is on the books for 39.4 million. So in terms of trading for Zion, this is the number you’re you’re going to have to match. And then 26 goes up to 42. 27 goes up to 44. I mean, we can talk about all we want of how impactful Zion is on the basketball court, but let’s just say he has to miss. I mean, we just play the trends here. He’s only had two out of his six seasons where he’s been playing impactful basketball consistently for the Pelicans. You’d assume that the Bulls trade for him, you’re only getting a good Zion for one of these years. But then that’s just a pessimistic view. If you take the optimistic view and you’re like, “Oh, Zion was a number one overall pick. Tons of hype. He looked like a generational prospect.” Well, if he is healthy, these cap pits aren’t necessarily as bad as some of these other guys are going to be getting 6570 million. So, what could a Zion trade could look like? Well, you’re going to have to probably give up one of your best young players, that being Kobe White. This is actually tossed out there by Joe Calli uh beat reporter for the Sun Times covering the Chicago Bulls where he suggested Nicole Vuch heading to New Orleans along with Kobe White and Javon uh Carter. Um, Katada almost had a Boston accent slip out right there. But, uh, these all match the $39 million that Zion, um, with him leaving the Pelicans, so they got to take on that amount of money. Um, but I will say Kobe White, I love his game so much. Um, watching him develop over the last couple years with the Bulls has been really one of the only bright spots for this basketball team. But I would still do this train. And I’ll explain more why here in a second, just because of the high reward that Zion would potentially bring to the Bulls. And actually, this trade and bringing Zion in would really lean into the runand gun identity the Bulls are trying to have. Now, do they do it at the same level as like the Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers? Absolutely not. But clearly the Bulls, they want to play that up and down style where it’s Josh Giddy at the one, he’s pushing it in transition. And you know, Zion, he fits that style of play perfectly where it’s in the transition part of the game. He can attack the basket, put pressure on the rim, just be that hyper athlete. And we saw it, especially, I mean, with the Pacers going into Cleveland yesterday and upsetting them game one. when they have these athletes running on the perimeter and you got a kind of doit all point guard and Tyrese Halbert and always making the right read, having these athletes on the outside um running the floor, it can be a huge benefit for the offense in terms of just getting easy buckets because I do feel even though the Bulls this past season it in the grand scheme of things it was a disaster. You were still the nine seed for the third straight season. You’re going to probably have a poor, you know, lottery pick. But the one positive is I will say is their transition offense. was one of the best in the national uh one of the best in the NBA. And if you would bring in Zion, I think it would take that to another level. But I’ll ask you guys this. No draft picks involved, which also may find a little unlikely. Maybe the Bulls have to attach a first round pick for this season to make this trade work. But if this is the deal, would you do it? Give me an A for accept. Give me a D for decline if you would give up V, Kobe White, Javon Carter for Zion. Now, I’m just really looking at this trade as a player for player swap because Javon Carter and Nicole Buchvich, they’re just kind of throwaways in this deal. Uh Kobe White is the main, you know, piece of the pie in this one. And I would do this trade. I understand I love Kobe. Um he’s a great scorer, but we also saw in the playing game, man, when he is not sh hitting his shots offensively, he is a huge net negative out there. He has a turnover issue. He can’t guard people. And I understand you have red flags around Zion as well. But also, I think Zion’s ceiling is about 10 times as high compared to a guy like Kobe White. So, I would do that deal. I may be in the minority of that, but I take a chance getting Zion to the United Center. I mean, that place would be bumping every single home game next season. So, I would do it. But coming up next here, we’ll talk about uh another player in that draft class. Actually, John Morant. Could the Bulls be trading for the Memphis Grizzlies point guard? apparently he could be traded this summer. So, it doesn’t make sense for the Bulls. We’ll discuss here in a second. They’re just discussing where John Morant could head this off season as his name has been heavily involved in the latest NBA trade rumors and they actually listed the Chicago Bulls as a potential landing spot for John Morant. Got a lot of thoughts on this, but first, let’s get their thoughts. It’s actually Jason Bergos who wrote up this article saying the Chicago Bulls showed a lot of heart and upsides late this season. While they don’t have a clearcut top star, they have some nice pieces and Josh Giddy and Kobe White both being secondary players to Morant would be a better fit for the pair and it gives them the makings of a rock solid and young core going forward. Now, I understand what Jason is saying. Like, yes, on paper, if you had a young core of Giddy, Kobe White, John Morant, Modis Buzzel, like on paper, that could make a lot of sense. But the only way that I think this makes clear-cut sense is if you trade Kobe White because are you going to have a back court build up with J, Giddy, Kobe, Io, Lonzo, um, you know, three of those guys coming off the bench? I don’t think that makes a whole lot of sense. Let’s just say, you know, the Orlando Magic call for Kobe White and they’re like, “Yeah, we’ll give you a first round pick for him. You trade him there.” Then you use that first to maybe go acquire John Morant, then it’s Jaw, Josh Giddy. It makes a little more sense there, but I still have my doubts if that’ll work on the basketball court. And plus, you know, talk about Jaw on the court, fantastic player. Think he’s a great playmaker, a great attacker of the rim, electrifying with the basketball in his hands. You still got the off the- court stuff. He still doesn’t seem like the most mature, you know, person or player at this stage in his career, but that could all change, especially with the change change of scenery. I just don’t know if, you know, going to Chicago is the best change of scenery for John Morant. But he’s got the same contract as Zion. Both signed that 5-year 197 million deal after the rookie contract played out. So, you know, the contract details are the same here. Um 39.4 million, 42.1, and then 44.8 in the 2728 season. But if John Morant does reach like his peak, which we all thought he was going to get to a couple of years ago, you can make an argument this contract is bargain. So, kind of same with Zion and J here. It’s a it’s a high-risk highreward scenario where it’s like yes, you would have to give up some premium young players and also probably some draft capital, but if you get the best out of J, you get the best out of Zion, no matter what trade you kind of put together from the Bulls, unless it’s like not a complete overpay, you would think of it as a good deal. And you know, John Morant, I mean, yes, he’s been in and out of the lineup, you know, with the, you know, gun issues. He had some injury issues um specifically back in 2023, but when he is healthy and he is playing some of his best basketball, he’s one of the most electrifying players in the NBA. And just take that two-year run um in 21 and 22 where he was averaging 25 plus points, 6 and a half plus assists per game. Never been the most efficient shooter, but he is just so dynamic at beating dudes off the dribble, getting the defense in rotation, just causing havoc for opposing teams guards, trying to stay in front of them. But kind of my final take on, you know, John Morant, Zion Williamson, I don’t think the Bulls are in a position to trade for any star. And the main reason for that is just the foundation isn’t strong enough. Like if the Bulls were a Zion or a Jaw away from competing in the Eastern Conference, yeah, I would have a lot of interest in that. But even if you bring in Zion, if you bring in J, it would kind of be more of the same of what we had here in Chicago where it’s like, yeah, you would be a pretty or you would be a good basketball team. Like you would probably win 39 to 43 games every year, but you would still be stuck in that purgatory unless like you have a guy like Bzellis who looks like a true second option on a championship team. And you know, I love Buzzellis, but that’s, you know, that’s a lofty goal for a guy entering his second year turning 20 years old. So, I don’t think the Bulls are in a position to trade for Jaw or Zion. Now, if it’s a Giannis trade and you could attach like Kobe, Vu, Patrick Williams, and three unprotected first round picks, maybe I would have some interest there, but also just kind of reading the NBA landscape right now. Like, the Houston Rockets are probably going to offer, you know, two or three other young players plus a ton of draft picks for Giannis. I just don’t think the Bulls could, you know, match another team’s offer. Now, if Giannis specifically demands to go to the Bulls, maybe they could get involved. But as it stands right now, I just don’t think the Bulls are in a position to really get active this summer. And that’s also why I wanted to start this rebuild two or three years ago because we are in the first off seasonason of this and you can’t really be over aggressive. It’s going to be, you know, a lot of just waiting and seeing for this Bulls team this offseason. But I ask you guys this, if you had to trade for one, who you trading for? Give me a number one for Zion or give me a 12 for John Morant. If I had to pick one, I would actually choose Zion. Um, yeah, I think I would choose Zion over John Morant. I uh I just think his upside’s a lot higher and I still think there’s a lot of untapped potential with Zion’s game. Honestly, I could see Jaw just trending in the wrong direction. If Zion can stay healthy, I a lot more faith of him reaching his max potential compared to J Mor. But a friendly reminder, hit that subscribe button on your way out. We’ll keep you posted with everything you need to know around the Chicago Bulls this entire off seasonason. See you guys next time. As always, go Bulls. [Music]

Bruh? 👀. not happening
The Grizzlies aren’t trading Morant so we can forget about that. I think the Bulls have a chance to get Zion
I don’t think Zion is worth Coby
Why would we want giant? That way Lonzo has somebody to sit with on the bench because they’re hurt all the time. I’m a Duke Fan but no thanks. Give me Filipowski or Sengun!
Bulls need to stop thinking trade, they need to relax and draft
I like Zion but I dont want to lose Giddey, White, Buzelis, or Dosunmu. If we can get him for other assets i say go for it.
A trade without giving up draft picks would be ideal
1
Neither one
I would love to see Zion Williamson and Ja in Chicago bulls uniform
Why would you trade for him and he has not played in a long time that would be a bad trade I just can't see that please do not do that bulls fan for life
