Darrion Williams – Sacramento Kings Pre-Draft Workouts – May 5, 2025
here back in your hometown. Give me one. It’s It’s interesting. I never um It’s a dream come true. Honestly, it’s my first workout, so just having to be at a hometown. I grew up by the old AR coast and my mom used to work there, so I go to a lot of games. So, it’s just a real feeling, but it’s a blessing to put on that uniform to just go through everything today. What was it like for that? Just I know it a blessing overall, but kind of take us through it. Yeah. No, it was like it was a dream with you. I was nervous at first. Um, as we kind of got going, I was I kind of just realized it was just basketball. But just being able to put the King jersey on has always been a dream of mine. So, you were able to shoot the three ball pretty well back there. Just uh, do you feel like you’re able to display everything that’s in the toolkit that you got in front of uh, you know, King Scouts today? Yeah, I didn’t feel like I had my best day necessarily, but I think I did what I was supposed to do. What kind of feedback did you get from the coaches? Um, I haven’t really talked to them yet, but just trying to be in the best condition. What would you say it is that sets you apart as a player? What would you like to display here today? Uh just being versatile, being able to pass, uh score, shoot, rebound, defend, do all the things, whatever necessary. Where will you be off to next? I got Milwaukee on Wednesday. And then just how do you mentally prepare for yourself for, you know, a whole lot of unknown over this next month or so? Yeah, I mean, this is my first time doing the whole process, so I’m trying to enjoy it. I got a couple friends that have done it in the past. So, it’s kind of asking them, getting tips on how to stay fresh and how to just look forward to the next one, but staying in the moment, enjoying it to get the invite to the combine. I mean, just what does that mean for the journey ahead? I mean, it’s great if you asked me a year ago, two years ago, I never would have thought that would be a thing. So, just it’s a blessing. You talked about how just real putting on that jersey being here. Did it even feel like a job interview per se today? Were you just like, I’m just a kid playing the game that I love and if so, how did you embrace that? Yeah, it just felt like a kid. I don’t want to put nothing extra on, you know, put no extra pressure on myself. Just come out and have b play basketball and have fun. That’s why I have a smile on my face most of the time. What do you make of the Kings? I mean, obviously they’ve had a lot of change lately. Um, great organization, great organization, great coach. Obviously watched him growing up a little bit when I was growing up. So, I know the type of style he wants to play. Kind of watched the team, got great guys, got some of the top guys in the in the league. So, I think it’s going in the right direction. Feel like you fit that pretty well. For sure. More than anything, what kind of impact did you want to make sure that you left today uh after this workout? Um just prove I can do a multi a multitude of things. I can handle the ball. I can pass. I can play off the ball, on the ball, whatever the coach needs. That was some run you guys had with Texas Tech and you know making it to the Elite 8 obviously. Just what do you remember about that run and and do you feel like you know being on a stage that big playing against you know other bigname prospects can help you in this next process? Yeah, for sure. Sure. I told Ruben yesterday they shouldn’t have won the game. So, but uh n it was it was fun for sure. Um obviously getting that deep. I wish we could have went a little farther, but um we made a good run and playing against top guys just helped me see what kind of level I need to play at. I feel like I was able to step up my game when I needed to and I hope to do that shortly throughout the time. What’s going to be the toughest transition you feel like for you as you head to the next level? Uh playing against bigger, longer, faster guys. That’s pretty much it. Has that been kind of a thing all the time? Yeah. Yeah. Because I’m not some freak athlete, but I know how to play basketball. So, what’s kind of helps you with that with that challenge that you bring to the table? I’ve kind of always been like that. I never been the most athletic, never been the tallest, never been the strongest. So, just finding different ways to impact the game. Um, using the game knowledge that I have and just being able to play around. Will you have like a home base during the journey when you’re kind of going from place to place and working out? Is there you going to be in sack? Oh, yeah. Yes. Yeah. Anything else? Appreciate Appreciate y’all. Thanks.
