Inside the NBA PREVIEWS Knicks vs Celtics Game 1

How about Oh, Chuck lost to who? I did. Exactly. Johnny Newman. Yeah. Smack. Paddle and lost. Yeah. Well, no. It went down to the buzzer. Oh, wow. Congrats. Carmax never settle. Um, so you got the Knicks and you got the Celtics going at it tonight in Boston. in there their numbers from their first series with Boston beating the Magic and the Knicks uh with a lot of close games over the Pistons. Here’s what both teams are saying going in. They’re they’re defending champions for a reason. They they found a formula that works for them and it’s worked against the whole entire league and got them a chip. So, we just got to go out there, execute, and stay disciplined. If we execute at the level I know we can play basketball that I know we can, you know, we give ourselves a chance at the end. It’s us who have more to lose, you know, cuz we’re supposed to win. They’re dangerous. They’re dangerous, you know, and they going in as the underdog and and they have whole of whole New York behind them and they have the capability. It’s us that have have to be on our agame. Have that same hunger we had last year. We’re not uh defending what we did last year. We’re trying to win another championship. Just all the history between, you know, Boston and New York. Um it’s excellent to be able to to to live or to relive in that. It’s our job to come out and put on a great performance and take care of business. Boston versus New York. It don’t get too much better than that. And there’s only been uh one playoff matchup that’s happened more than the Knicks and Celtics who will meet for the 16th time. That’s the Sixers and the Celtics with 23. Uh Boston leading the alltime series 8 to7. I’m surprised that the Celtics against the uh Lakers ain’t on that list. Yeah. Well, that would have to be in the finals. I know. Yeah. They played in the finals like every year going back. Yeah. But these in the East, you This is the Eastern Conference stuff. Okay. My bad. So, there’s that there’s that education to get Elberg, man. I tell you, man. The dude does not read the whole thing. Here’s my question for you. Yes, sir. Have you swallowed? Are you good? I guess uh 0 and4 against the Celtics this year. 0 and 10 against the top three teams in the NBA. How did the Knicks change that in this series? Well, the pressure is not on them like Porzingis said, and they just have to come play the game. Brunson has been playing spectacularly. You know, we want all all our stars to play like that. The way he ended that last round with that shot, that’s how we want our superstars to play. The key is going to be Cat and the others. If Cat can give me high 20s, high double figures, they have a shot. Porzingis recognizes that this team is dangerous, but they have to play to that ability. If I’m the Knicks, I’m going in. I’m playing loose. I’m playing free. We’re the underdog. Nobody expects us to win. Just play your game. But this guy has to play great. Cat has to play great. And the others have to continue to play with confidence and give yourself a chance. Now, that’s easier said than done when you’re playing the champs. But if they can do all that stuff, they definitely have a shot, though. Yeah. If you’re playing the champs and the champs have Drew Holiday back now after missing three games, too. Well, when you when you play the Boston Brunson will be looking at him without Well, when you play the Boston Celtics, you don’t play against Brown and Tatum. You play you you play against six, seven guys. So, for if the Knicks you you the question was how if the Knicks want to be successful, OG has to play well. Hart has to play well. McBride has to play well. Uh Mitchell Robertson has to be a great defender. Like that’s how you beat the Boston Celtics because they have seven guys that can get 20 points. You go down that list, seven that don’t struggle to get 20. So how can you beat them? You have to have depth and you one man does not I don’t care if Bronson has 30. That does not beat the Boston Celtics. If they haven’t beaten him and we’re trying to come up with a reason how they can beat him. That’s the reason they haven’t beat him. They’re not good enough. The Celtics going to win the series. Probably a gentleman sweep, but the Knicks are not good enough to beat the Celtics. I mean, there’s a reason they beat them every time. I mean, we we’re trying to make it seem like it’s going to be a good series. Wow. Um, you don’t think it would be a good series? Well, they beat them every time. I don’t If somebody beat you every time, they’re better than you. Well, that’s regular season. Yeah. Yeah. Because And there are times you said it doesn’t matter what happened in the regular season. The Knicks just struggle with the Pistons. This team is twice as good as the Pistons. I mean, man, listen, man. The Celtics are going to beat the Knicks in probably five games, if that. Bet it. No, I mean, I I um The Knicks just Nick the Knicks got a good team. Don’t get me wrong, they got a good team. The Celtics are just better. So, Brunson averaging 30 and Call averaging 28. They don’t have That’s That’s 60 points, fool. That ain’t going to get it done against the Celtics. Hey, okay, but the other guys But hold on. Celtic But hold on. Celtics got to shoot that three ball well too. I don’t even think they have to shoot it great. Uh cuz I want to see how many I want to see how many they shoot in this series cuz 48 they took in the regular season. 48 a game. That was down to 31 against Orlando when they were running them off the line. Well, no, they want to run them off the line. Atlanta was slowing the game down on the offensive end as well. It was a combination of both. Yes, they they will shoot 40 threes against the Knicks. the Knicks won’t be as apprehensive to push the ball or push the pace because Brunson when he’s in transition, he feels he has the advantage. So, he will try to take it. The game will be a lot faster. I disagree with Chuck. I do think this is going to be a tight series. Uh, I think Carl Anthony Towns does have an advantage and this is why they bought him there to give to give this team or to be he plays to his advantage and and they play to his advantage because when you put Porzingis on him, he doesn’t he will be able to shoot the three and and he will be able to post up low. So, he will have an advantage I feel this series much more than he had against these guys. Well, and I and well, we just disagree cuz I think Porzingo size, he won’t have that advantage against Porzingo. that side. Look at he got a little Tobias Harris guard him down there. That’s when he shoots a three. That’s right. Well, but he can guard the three and Helen. But also, I think Bronson is going to have an interesting series, too, because you got, in my opinion, probably two best defensive guards in the NBA who play for the Celtics between Drew Holiday and Derek White. Okay. I think they can put two bodies on Bronson. Now, Bronson’s a great player. He’s going to get x amount of points, but I think they going to make it hard on him. Really hard on him because the problem is he going to have to play defense because the the Celtics probably have the best floor spacing in the NBA. People don’t even understand how important spacing is. I know Shaq and Kenny understands that the difference between three or four feet means a lot to a great offensive player because you get a wide open shot or you get a contested shot and uh they going to make I think they’re going to go at Bronson’s at some times also but and and your guy Porzingis I know you talk about him and how important he is in the Boston scheme but he’s been kind of on that roller coaster in that first round against well one of the reasons I said I said single digits three games I said last year once they got bazingas the championship was a wrap. I said that last year. If he doesn’t pick up his game, the Celtics are not going to win the championship this year. I I said it before the sale. I said, “Man, we just wasting time.” Once they cuz Forzing plays well, this takes this team to a whole another level. But he has not been consistent, Ernie. Just like you said, and if he but if he don’t pick it up, they’re not going to win the East. And the reason he’s been inconsistent most of those games I’ve watched, he stayed out on the perimeter. When he mixes it up, he plays okay. But if he learns how to mix up a little more, he will have better numbers and better game. But if you just stay out there on the perimeter and you’re not making them, that’s going to be the outcome. Single digits. Celtics are trying to get to the uh Eastern Conference Finals for the fourth straight year. For the Knicks, it’s been a while. The year was 2000. You know who was on that team? John Starks. Rick Brunson. Rickson. Rick Brunson. Wow. Dad was on the team. Jaylen Brunson’s dad was on the team the last time the Knicks made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. They will try to get there, but it’s going to take an effort against the Boston Celtics. The reigning chance. I love Chuck, but he picked the Clippers. Ben, friend of the program, Ben. Ben, we know you love him. Had him on the steam room earlier this year. Yeah. So, Ben, he picked the Rockets, too. Yeah, that’s Ben. You should be happy if I pick the if I pick the Celtics. That mean they’re gonna y’all gonna win. There’s our technical director, Garrett Rifa, and his sons who are in the studio tonight. And so, who’s the technical director tonight? I don’t know.
