Trade For Joel Embiid? | Los Angeles Lakers Trade Rumors via Bill Simmons Podcast
Should the Los Angeles Lakers make a blockbuster move for superstar center Joel Embiid? That’s what we’re talking about here on today’s Lakers report by Chad Sports. Welcome into the show. My name is Jeffrey Cooperstein. Appreciate you guys tuning in to the Lakers report. Before we talk about Joel, I need to ask you guys to go ahead and hit that thumbs up icon. Our record likes for a video in April is at 202. We’re trying to beat that on today’s show. If you would please hit that thumbs up icon, it’s the easiest way to help out our channel. It doesn’t cost you a dime. It takes less than 5 seconds. And all you have to do is just hit the thumbs up icon right below this video right here. And let’s get started with today’s show. Bill Simmons, who is an NBA I philosopher as he likes to call himself, suggested that the Lakers should possibly trade for Embiid. And here is what he had to say. We’ll give you all of our expirings and a first round pick and we’ll get you out of the Joel Embiid business. Here’s your get out of jail free card right now. You don’t have to deal with them anymore. That’s my favorite Lakers move. All of their expiring and two first round picks and they get Embiid. Reeves isn’t it. He’s not in it. you Philadelphia don’t even get Reeves. We don’t know if Embiid’s is ever playing again. I’m like, I’ll take Embiid. You can have one of our first round picks. And here is some bunch of expiring. The NBA offseason is officially here. And that makes absolutely zero sense what Bill Simmons said. We’ll break it down here in further detail, but first things first, the Lakers only have one first round pick that they are available to trade that is outright. the others have certain protections on them or their pig swap so the Lakers can’t deal those outright and why would the Lakers who we all would would agree their biggest need this off season is a big man why would the Lakers trade for a guy in Joel Embiid who may or may not play and is going to cost a lot a lot of money let’s take a look at the trade assets first before we get into the Embiid side of things the Lakers do own their own pick which is the 55th pick in this year’s draft they have 26 6 28 and 30 pick swaps. They own their 2031 first. They have Dalton Connect on his rookie contract who they drafted in the first round of last year’s draft and did a couple of expiring deals in Hachima, Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kiba, and Dorian Finny Smith. And some of those do have some decent salaries on there that the Lakers could use in a trade this off seasonason. Ruiz at around 18, Dorian’s at around 15, Vincent at 11 and a half. Back to you at an even 11. So, all of those are certainly um tradable contracts that the Lakers can definitely use in a deal to try to go and upgrade the center position. And the total of those deals does come out to around 56 million. And if you’re wondering, yes, that is close to what Joel Embiid is making. The difference is is I’m not paying Joel Embiid 59.5 million next year to play in 25 games. It’s not something that I would do if I was Rob Pelinka and the Los Angeles Lakers. I know Joel Embiid is one of the most dominant centers in the league when he plays and he is one of the most effective scorers in the league when he plays. The key is when he plays. Last season in just 19 games in 24-25, he averaged almost 24 points, eight boards, and 44 and a.5% from the field. Not one of his better statistical seasons. Whereas you look at in 23-24 when he played again less than half the season a averaged almost 35 points 11 rebounds and shot almost 40% from three as well. Uh along with impacting the game on a positive side on uh on the defensive side with the rim protection and the rebounding is one of the most unstoppable forces in the league when he is on the court. I just don’t know if this is a fit for the Lakers going forward. I want to ask you guys though. This will be today’s poll question. Should the Lakers trade for Joel Embiid? If you think they should, type D for trade. And if you think they shouldn’t, type P for pass. This will be the pinned comment on today’s show. So, you may get hit with the YouTube ad break here in just a couple of seconds. And while that happens, go on down there and get your votes in. Like I said, guys, I absolutely don’t think they should trade for Joel whatsoever. And we’ll get into the details of exactly why they should not trade for Embiid. But first, I do need to tell you guys about our sponsor, which is Prize Pix, America’s number one daily fantasy sports app. Prize Pix has over 10 million members and billions of dollars in awarded winnings, making daily fantasy sports accessible to all. That link is in the comments and the description of today’s show. It is prize picks. Run your game. I’ve said this multiple times throughout the show already, but if I haven’t made it obvious enough, I would not trade for Joel Embiid. I think there’s just there are multitude of reasons why. The least of which being the health. Uh, one of the main reasons though is absolutely the contract. His contract is horrible. When you look at how much money he’s over the next three or four seasons, it is not something that if you’re the Los Angeles Lakers, you want to take on whatsoever. He’s making $55 million this year, 59 in 2627, 64 in 2728. And if you don’t think Joel Embiid is taking up that very nice $69 million player option in 28-29, you are out of your mind. The best case scenario for Philadelphia would be if Joel Embiid medically retires and they’re not responsible for all of this contract. I don’t know what the exact math is on that. I can’t really do that off the top of my head, but that’s damn near $220 million of contracts that Joel Embiid is still owed. And we don’t know if he’s going to play another game in the NBA again. So, the contract is a non-starter for me, even if he was able to get on the court, but he isn’t because he has that major injury history. And it’s a lot of it’s been in the knees. He’s had some ankle problems. He’s had some foot problems. He missed the first two years of his NBA career with issues as well. So, he’s been dealing with this all throughout his career. And just look at all the games missed in his career. 286 missed game missed games, including over a hundred in the last two years. This is not a guy that you want to invest 200 plus million dollars in plus send away all of your tradable assets and try to I know you’re trying to go win a title in LeBron in the twilight of LeBron James career. This is just not the guy you’re going to do it with. Yeah, Embiid is better than Jackson Hayes and he’s better than whatever big you had running out there in the first round of the playoffs, but there’s no guarantee that Joel would have played. And if I had to put my money on it, I would say he wouldn’t have played. And like I kind of alluded to, the trade would absolutely gut your depth. Dorian Finny Smith, Ruy Hachimura, Maxi Kiba, who only played in that one playoff game for the Lakers. Uh those guys are important pieces if you have a healthy team around it. You don’t want to gut your entire depth and make this a six or sevenman rotation. I like Gabe Vincent a lot. Shake Milton has had his cup of coffee in the league. I kind of think he’s cooked. You have Dalton Connect going into a second year. Let’s see what he has. Jared Vanderbilt still I think is really good player. And then you have Vinnie Smith. You have the likes of Gemson and Koko on those two-way deals. You do have Jackson Hayes who I think as a backup center is a very viable option. You have Austin Reeves. So you have a good roster around them. And if you trade for Embiid, you are gutting basically your entire bench and your tradable asset in Dalton Connect, who is your youngest, most affordable player who you’re hoping develops in to a 17 to 20 point a game scorer. So if I was the Lakers, Joel Embiid would not be the direction I go. I think you would try to target a free agent center. And there are some pretty good options out there on the market for Los Angeles to go and explore this year. Brook Lopez who can really block shots and shoot the three at an extremely high level. He’s someone the Lakers have had interest in before and they could target again. Clink Capella would be a great lob threat to play alongside Luca. The Mavericks tried to get Clink Capella multiple times during Luca’s tenure. Maybe he finally teams up with Luca in LA. Miles Turner, he’s probably the most expensive of all of these options here, but I do think that he would be a good option as well. Another shot blocker who can make the three. Stephen Adams, a longtime veteran in the league who could kind of give much needed leadership in this Lakers locker room. Now, he’s not going to wow you on either end of the floor with his skill, but I think he’s a connector. He’s a glue guy, and he could really assist in trying to make this Lakers team go. And then you have big man Al, old man Al as some people are calling him, who I think will finish his career with the Boston Celtics. But if something goes ary there and maybe he’s an option for the Lakers going forward. But I think I would take any of these five over the 60 plus million dollars you’re going to owe owe Joel Embiid in 27 and 28. Give me one of these guys and let’s see what Rob Pelinka can cook up in the rest of the off season. Let’s hear from you guys to round out today’s show. Who will be the starting center for the Lakers in the 2526 NBA season? that first night in October, likely a national National League televised game. Who’s going to be starting at the five for the Lake Show? Let me know down in the comments. And one last thing before we get on out of here, I forgot about this. Rumors about Giannis potentially wanting to come to LA. Cities like New York, Miami, and maybe Chicago could appeal to Giannis. per Howard Beck said he poked around for info a few days ago in the initial thing he got from one person was like the rumblings is already is that it’s already eliminated down to just the big cities one of the LA teams one of the new New York teams again or Miami or Chicago and he said he can’t remember if Houston’s name came up there but it should I think Houston would be a great destination for Giannis as well but I think this is the biggest point back to the Damen Lillard situation where everyone in their mom knows that he wanted to be traded to the Miami Heat. he ends up getting traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks do not have to honor Giannis’s request to go wherever he wants to go as he does have multiple years left on his contract. So, the Bucks can just say, “We’re going to go get the best deal possible for you if you want to be traded.” So, keep that in the back of your mind. I don’t think Giannis is going to be a Laker. It would take way too much uh cap maneuvering and it would be like a six or seven team trade that Rob Pelinka would have to pull off. But I’ll say this, you can never say never when it’s Rob Pelinka involved. No one ever thought the Luca Don trade was going to happen. And here we are with Luca holding up the purple and gold jersey. So I’ll never say never. But if I had to guess right now, I don’t think you have to worry about Giannis Antakumbo being a Los Angeles Laker. We’ll of course keep you up to date on the channel though if anything regarding Giannis, Joel Embiid, or any other superstar has links to the Los Angeles Lakers. We don’t know if Embiid is ever playing again. I’m like I’ll take Embiid, you can have one of our first-round picks, and here’s some bunch of expiring.”

Lakers P
He can stay healthy in Los Angeles
Better off looking at DeAndre Ayton
Heck no! First off he's a nut case. He's always out injured. He's scared of playing against joker.
Hell no ready for a wheel chair
He'll no
all the lakers need to do is trade bonny so lebron understands its time to go
Go find a way to get Duren
I rather have nic claxton and Ben Simmons
Myles Turner Moses Brown Dennis Schneider DeAngelo Russell Stanley Johnson and Jordan Clarkson keep markieff Morris Jordan Goodwin
NEVER JEFF ARE YOU CRAZY. EMBID IS ALMOST AS INJURY PRONE AS KAWHI
Austin Reaves, Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, and 2 FRP (add conditions) for Embiid. I would aggressively pursue this trade. The Lakers need a 5 and teams will make us pay a kings ransom to get a good 5. Go for Embiid, and sign a backup 5 like Clint Capela or Steven Adams. It would have taken Dalton Knecht and a FRP for Mark Williams so why not trade Austin (who has a redundant game next to Luka and will get a max or near max extension soon, and FRP capital for an MVP calibre player who has been so devalued by his own team.) When has an NBA MVP and top 3-top 5 consensus player been so readily available? Take advantage of the situation, look to round out the roster with athletes who play defence, and can shoot 3’s, and manage Embiid in a way to optimize the Lakers chances of winning a title (as the playoffs is all that matters, so don’t burn him out for the regular season… let Luka run the offence for the regular season). If LeBron stays (which I am sure he will, maneuver the roster to try and get him to take a more team friendly deal, so he can chase his 5th and 6th rings in the near future.) As someone who knows basketball, I would aggressively pursue this deal. If we don’t even have to give Reaves in this deal, even better, I would make that trade every day, as the cost for Embiid is lower than what we would have to pay for Myles Turner, Jalen Duren, or Walker Kessler.
.
Cam Johnson, Claxton, Turner, and other guys aren’t cheaper than Embiid, so why not roll the dice?
