Davion Mitchell Appears To Already Be Back In The Gym | Miami Heat Need To Re-Sign Him This Summer

Welcome on in guys. Tobin here with you and thanks for checking out the channel. I hope everybody’s doing well out there. If you guys could subscribe, that’d be great. And I appreciate you stopping by. So, I wanted to get to this this guy tonight because it was gooseies galore. I I I mean, I think if anybody has the highest approval rating on the Miami Heat right now, I have to think that DaVon Mitchell is has got the highest. Like if we were to do this like politicians right now approve disapprove 98% of Heat fans right now cool with DaVon Mitchell happy with DaVon Mitchell doesn’t really you don’t really have anything bad to say about DaVon Mitchell like what what could anybody have right now that is uh that’s going right now I would say he’s numero uno probably number two uh who’s number two the the good question is who’s number two That is a good question. I don’t even think it’s Bam or Tyler right now. Um, I’d say Kell, but I, you know, even with his playoff run, people are being rap bastards about it. Probably Nico, maybe Nico right now. Nico’s got that accountability. So, you know, maybe he’s number two right now. But, Numero Ununo for sure is the man they call off night. DaVon Mitchell, who I imagine the Miami Heat are going to give a qualifying offer to. But I imagine the Miami Heat are going to uh see what his market holds. And I imagine that this is a guy the Miami Heat would like to keep. And I I mean I I’m I’m just basing this I think this is recent footage. I don’t know for a fact if it is. Um but DaVon Mitchell was posting yesterday photos of himself in the gym. I think they’re new. I don’t think they’re old videos, but I don’t know for sure. But if it if you were to tell me that if I had to pick a person who’s right back in the lab a week later after taking a week off, who’s right back at in the lab? And and you said, Towen, you have three guesses to say who was in the lab first. I think I would probably pick DaVon Mitchell to be in the lab first. And he posts uh yesterday some footage and some photos from the Heats house. getting his work in and it’s just it that to me that’s gooseies galore. You know, he’s always very big on the inspirational quotes. He’s got the big slideshow that happens. One time he had a one time he had Caleb Plant a a Caleb Plant uh video, which I thought was pretty cool. I don’t know if he’s a boxing fan, but Caleb Plant uh I would say is one of my favorite boxers right now. I want to say favorite, but I enjoy Sweet Hands Plant. I saw him knock out a guy uh from Notre Dame in uh on the undercard of what was that? What card was that that I saw him do that? I forget. Now it’s going to bother me. I got to look it up. Caleb Plant. Whose card was that that he did that on? Caleb Plant knocked out Mike Lee and that was Manny Pacquiao Keith Thurman. Oh, what a night. That was a great I mean that was truly one of the thrills of my life. Manny Pacquiao. One of my f That’s one of my favorite boxers of all time. Love the Pac-Man. And to get a chance to see him in person in Las Vegas and beat Keith Thurman. Oh, that was that was gooseies on top of gooseies. But anyway, I digress. DaVon Mitchell is, you know, comes in here with the Miami Heat and he is outstanding. You know, he goes out and, you know, defends his ass off. He plays with this style that kind of fit into either the bench or the starting lineup. Um, he was just he was very very impressive in his time with the Miami Heat. He seemed to just fit in seamlessly. I would say of the Jimmy Butler trade, he was by far the uh the best acquisition of it, by far over Andrew Wiggins, by far over Kyle Anderson, and right now above the draft pick, because I don’t know what the draft pick is at this moment. And everything tilted up for him with the Miami Heat. You know, he he was shooting more threes, he was making more threes. Uh he shot over 50% from the field with the Miami Heat. He he averaged about four more points a game with the Miami Heat. His went up with the Miami Heat. His blocks went up. His steels went way up with the Miami Heat. So, I I just found it to be a very very impressive tenure. The question is going to be and this is one of those things where I really don’t know what the answer is because this NBA economy has me very very confused because it kind of feels like everybody all we’re talking about are they going to max him? Is he gonna And I obviously know that D’Von Mitchell is not going to get the max, but I also am not quite sure what does what does your fourth best player get on a team right now? A guy who’s like not as he’s not a star, but he’s pretty damn good and he’s very vital to your team. And I feel like in today’s NBA, I feel like the baseline for that is like $15 million. And I feel like a lot of Heat fans are going to hear that and they’re going to be like, “Pass.” But you think about the Miami Heat payroll right now, right? And we’re talking about in this day and age, the Miami Heat’s payroll. Um, you know, that would make him what, like the sixth highest paid player on the Miami Heat. And I get it. There’s not a lot of guys where you’re like, “Oh, man.” So, right now, the Miami Heat, uh, Bam makes 34.8, Tyler makes 29, Wiggins makes 26.2, Roier just under 25, Duncan makes 20, Kyle Anderson makes uh 8.7. And I’m I I kind of feel like the sweet spot is like if they could get DaVon Mitchell to agree to something that’s in the realm of like 15 a year like I was thinking like man if they could get him for like 345 that feels like uh that feels like it would be great. Now I don’t know what the market’s going to be for him mind you that he can let him go test the market. They can go then match any offer. So that could be the route that they go here and they could be like, “All right, Da’Von, you know, are you a guy that the NBA world really values? He’s going to be 27, so he’s right in his prime. He seemed to really find a home with the Miami Heat.” Do people look at that and say, “Yeah, he’s perfect for the Heat, but we don’t want to get like Caleb Martin here.” Um, or is this one of those things where no, there’s too many guys, too many guys who can go and you need two-way players. You certainly need guards who can go look how many skilled guards there are around this league. Guys who can actually go out there and make an impact. And I get it like everybody in the Heat series had a tough series. Um, and even Donovan Mitchell had their moments against this team, but I also thought that he had, you know, like of the guys when you look back at this series and you’re like, “Huh, who who stood out? Who had a really good playoff?” Like nobody except for DaVon Mitchell who averaged 15 a point 15 points a game in that series. Um, which was third on the team behind Bam and Tyler. And obviously those guys didn’t exactly live up to snuff. So, you know, from my standpoint, you look at somebody like, you know, like Caleb Martin went out there and he got like 10 a year for four. There was a bit of a a fumble because he was desperate from uh his agent screwing the pooch with the Heat. I look at somebody like uh like Max Struce. Max Struce got I think about four years I think he got he got uh right now he’s on a what’s his contract max four years 63 and he’s so he’s making in the next few years he’s making 15 this year 16 next year 16.6 six if they could get him for like one less year or even do like a two and one or maybe they could do something like a one in one where it’s like you know that number particular is that a killer for the Heat because you got to mention like I know that he want to keep their cap clear for 2026. That was like a whole thing. Oh, we’re going to hit for the the summer of 26. I don’t know if that’s still the plan or what. I don’t hard to say. I don’t know what the plan is. Um, but that to me is like that that that’s probably number because I think everybody’s looking at Dave, they’re like, “Oh, he’s going to sign like a three for 33.” And I’m like, maybe if this was like 2020 or 2021. I don’t know about in today’s NBA if that’s happening. I don’t know if that’s the way that it’s going to go. Um, yeah, like Lou Dort on the Thunder, he makes 16 and a half, 17.7, 17.7. Obviously, defensive player of the year candidate, tremendous. The Dorcher Chamber, 10 points a game, you know, kind of does a lot of it. Like I feel like that’s a pretty pretty good comparison for for DaVon. Obviously, you know, Lou’s a little bit bigger, so maybe you think he’s like a little bit more versatile because he can guard more people at that size. Um, which is true. I mean, DaVon being 6′ whatever that he is, like it kind of limits him uh in in the the guys that he can actually go, but it’s also, you know, you think about all the skill that’s out there. Um, I don’t know. That one’s one of those same age. So, I I kind of feel like that’s, you know, he and Lou, I think, is made more, you know, maybe had more credentials as far as like right off the bat being one of the best defenders in the league. Um, but yeah, I don’t know, man. I feel like that’s probably going to be the sweet spot for him if I had to guess because there’s not many guys his age. looks like they start to kind of find their role, figure it out. The shooting did look a lot better with the Miami Heat. Uh definitely showed a fearlessness in those playin games. I mean, he basically got the Heat to the playoffs. I know that they’re waving that around as a banner right now. And I just feel like, you know, there’s going to be a lot of talk about, hey, who the Heat are going to have and and are they going to add? Are they going to trade? Okay, so now you have a guy that you can bring in. there’s not going to be a huge penalty for it and you know he can play in a playoff series. You know that you’re you’re not gonna lose him and the guy is just like he just seems addicted to hoops. Like I just dig the whole carries the basketball around everywhere. He warms up no warm warms up with the jersey on. Like he’s just got a he’s got a that everybody says the pitbull mentality to him. Seems to fit right in. So, I really do think it is vital that the Heat pick, you know, do do keep him around. And I know that there’s a lot of, oh, you know, you can’t overpay. You know, look, there’s a lot of people on this Heat team right now who are overpaid. You know, the names of who they are. And just because you overpay those guys doesn’t mean that you should try and short change another guy and lose him when he can actually present some value to your team. because whether or not you’re going to start him or not, this guy can contribute to winning and I feel like Eric Spolster can trust him and I don’t feel like that’s something that’s going to burn you too bad. Um so yeah, probably like around the max number and I feel like you know I know the Heat didn’t want to get um they didn’t want to give Stru that. I get it. But also, you know, there was a little bit of a feeling of all right, we have Duncan Robinson to back this up. like there was a little bit of a and Duncan had a good year last year, didn’t end up fantastic this year and and Strus is obviously kicking ass right now for the Cavs and the Cavs are very good. Um, and they’re different skill sets, you know, they’re different skill sets of different players. So, and and and look, to be honest with you, look, if the Miami Heat would have kept Max Ruse around, would it have been a mistake? Out of the guys who have left, probably not. So, this guy seems like he’s a winning player, contributes to winning. you really want to short change that and let that walk out the door cuz he wants more than $10 million a year. The money’s crazy in the NBA these days. And again, I am not like great at figuring out what the sweet spot is. But what I do know is over the years of doing this, of keeping guys around, typically whatever I think that’s going to be, I usually add five million more to it. And that’s probably where it’s going to end up being a year. And that seems about where I would imagine he’s going to end up somewhere in like the $15 million a year range. Um that’s what I imagine he’ll probably be seeing. I think that would get it done. If it if the Heat can get him for like 11 12 man, I think that’d be an amazing deal for the Miami Heat if that’s possible. Maybe there’s that whole, you know, state income tax discount. I don’t know. Maybe Andy can work his magic. Maybe he does like Caleb Martin the year before this whole debacle happened. Does the one-on-one with Caleb Martin, he feels a comfort level here. If he doesn’t like the offers that are out there, he does a a one-on-one with the Heat. Sticks around. Boom. Boom. And then he can venture out of the market still at like 28 years old. And uh and we’ll see. But I think the Heat got to do what they can to keep him. I I I think as far as you talk about vital roles on this team and just guys, you just feel like, all right, who who everybody’s sitting here, everything’s on the table, right? Who don’t you want back? But again, who doesn’t want DaVon Mitchell back after this last year that he just

  1. The Heat can raise Mitchell’s ceiling significantly if you consider how high his floor is.

  2. 2 way, 3 level scorers deserve the max deal 🤷🏾‍♂️ it’d be absolutely insane to max a guy who’s a liability on defense and then let a guy like Mitchell walk.

  3. Man this dude is single handedly reviving heat culture from the mf grave . HE must stay with Miami 🤞🏽

  4. It hurts so much watching the Cavs, Pacers, Knicks, and Boston compete in these playoffs. We’re nowhere near that level anymore 😢

  5. Just don't give him a Duncan Robinson Contract… HEAT CANT BE THROWING MONEY AROUND LIKE ITS 2017-2018….DONT OVERPAY PLEASE!!!

  6. Davion definitely gotta be our new leader. And if he can work with Kelel Ware and get him up to snuff, we should be ready to go next season
