END OF SEASON INTERVIEW: TRISTAN DA SILVA

END OF SEASON INTERVIEW: TRISTAN DA SILVA

about your about the NBA life was what you expected and what wasn’t what you expected. Um I mean there there’s a lot of different uh voices that I’ve had uh right before my first year. Um and you know I feel like one of them is it’s a lot of ups and downs. Um a lot of uh unexpected turns. Um, you never know what can happen. And, um, that happened right off the jump, you know, with with two injuries. Uh, all of a sudden I was playing a lot. Um, a lot of ups in that, downs in that as well. Um, you know, my role changed over the year. Uh, I feel like how how I play changed over the year. Um, my relationships changed over the year with with coaches, with teammates. uh obviously getting more comfortable with everybody around me. So, um yeah, I feel like that’s how do you feel like you handled the changing roles and your growth throughout this year? Um it it was tough for sure. Um, but you know, I feel like um I’ve I’ve always had a had a good supporting system around me, like the people that are that are really close to me. Uh, kind of my my my tight circle that I’m with. Um, that that helped me a lot. Uh, especially in the times where where I was kind of struggling with it. Um, but essentially, you know, it was it was always about the work, the work that you put in, uh, the the process that you that you commit to. And um I try to commit to that as much as uh I could as much as possible. And um that definitely helped me to to you know take take my mind off of things and just just focus on getting better every single day. Tristan, is is the rookie wall a real thing? Can you feel that, you know, psychologically over the course of a 82 game plus playoff, you know, season? Uh, I mean it’s, yeah, I mean it’s definitely um, you know, a whole new deal. You know, you never played that many games before in your life and um, travel that much and and and been exposed to so many new things, uh, all at once. Um, so there’s definitely at some point in the season, uh, you you can call it a rookie wall, you can call it ups and downs of the season, you can call it whatever you want to. Um there’s definitely a moment during the season where you feel tired and you know that’s that’s that’s that can be physically, that can be mentally. Um and that’s I feel like the the the real challenge is to just digging through that and and making sure that you’re uh you’re coming out on the other end. Um and not, you know, falling too deep into whatever it is you’re thinking. Uh that’s that’s what I did with with the focus on work uh you know the trusting the process really. What did what did you learn going through the the process of making the playoffs preparing for the playoffs even even if you weren’t part of the rotation at that point in the season? What was that experience like when the intensity of the season begins to ratchet up? Yeah, the switch the switch was wild. Um you know just to just to see how much more physical uh the game is. Um, in general, I feel like, um, obviously the stakes were higher. Uh, every single game counts and you you play against the same team over and over and over again. So, it’s a lot more detailed. It’s a lot more um focused on every single possession, every single uh individual. Um, yeah. I mean, it’s it’s a lot more fun, definitely. What are your plans for for this summer as far as your individual work? Do you have any sort of international competitions in mind or summer league, anything like that? Just what’s kind of your your plan for the summer? Um, yeah, I’m still going to have to talk to uh to Jeff and Mo about it. Um, I haven’t met with them yet, but um, you know, like the usual the usual summer routine of of getting better, uh, getting in the weight room definitely. Um, I feel like now that I’ve been, um, part of the part of a playoff team and kind of seen it firsthand, um, that’s that’s definitely another thing I want to I want to improve on. Um, and then obviously coming back a a way better player. um you know, making sure that that I that I stay on the court um for for the majority of the season and um I’ll do whatever that takes whatever it takes to do that. What areas do you feel like you need to focus on or improve on this summer? I mean, they’re they’re all over the place. Um really um I feel like um you know specifically there’s uh you know I want to work on my base uh making sure that I can um move out of my base more uh efficiently or with more force um because that’s going to set up the rest of my game. Um you know whether that’s driving, shooting, uh defensive. Um you know it all comes back to to being in a in a in a good base. Um, so that’s probably uh one of the main focuses. Yeah, it’s cool. Thank you guys. All right. [Music] [Applause]

  1. really solid player. it’s a shame he didn’t get more time after paolo and franz came back

  2. I believe the magic going to sleep on Tristan he will go to another team and he will succeed. Look at Aaron Gordon went to Denver and he playing well. Trevor Ariza left here and provided great play for other teams. Many other players from Magic went to have great careers some where else

  3. Tristan has a very bright future with the Orlando magic..he will work hard to keep improving every off-season. I see same kind of growth we seen with franz wagner.
