Yep. The Rockets are going back home thanks to a a definitive. Now, don’t let the scoring fool you. 115 to 108. But when they emptied the benches, uh I think if I’m not mistaken, they were down by like 15. But the Rockets did an unbelievable job. Uh they got great performances. Fred Van Fleet played 40 minutes. He was six and nine from the three, nine from the free throw line, 29 big points. Shungun had 21 and 14 and six. He played outstanding. But Rob, you know this. When you play on the road and you’re trying to force a game seven or you’re trying to close out a series, your stars, your guys that you count on need to play well, but you need to get some production from somebody you don’t expect it. Now, I don’t know if this is the most points that Steven Adams has ever scored in a game. I know it’s not the most rebounds or the most blocks, but this might be the most impactful game that he’s played his entire career and he’s played a lot of playoff basketball games. He’s played a lot of games. But tonight, I believe he was the differencemaker because he got rebounds. He kept possessions alive. He blocked shot. He changed it when they went to that big lineup with him and Shingon in there. Yeah. That change that changed it. Go ahead, Rob. Yeah. You know, the one thing you can’t teach is size. And I say that all the time. You know, you just sh your favorite team just went down because they they elected not to use their size. And when you got a small team, Golden State is a small team. And you know, you and we know how strong Draymond is, but he ain’t strong as Stephen Adams. And Stephen Adams, he be he be carving out that room. He be grabbing rebounds, be pushing people out the way. He’s an enforcer. when you got guys, if you look at this Rockets team outside of Dylan and maybe Shingun, they all little guys and so you need protectors out there on that floor and and that’s what Stephen Adams is, you know, [ __ ] you look at J’s missing that right now. So, you need a guy like that. Oh, Joe, I mean, you look you looking at his and I thought I thought Jabari Smith Jr. He made like two or three buckets with the shot clock winding down. He had two big threes. He was one streak. He got up off the floor. There was a scramble for the ball. Bran Fleet gets it. He kicks it back. He gets up off the floor. Hell, I thought it was Ray Allen for just a second. Not Not the scale of the game, but he gets up off the floor and he cans a three as Golden State was trying to make their move, trying to create a turnover. I thought the bench was outstanding for the Houston Rockets tonight. I think they got 32 32 big points. No, 16 33 36 big points from the bench. The guys played really well. Their starters played well. Brooks got in foul trouble and uh uh uh Udoka didn’t didn’t have a choice but to send him to the bench, but I thought their backups played extremely well. Your role players, you got what you expected from Van Pleet outside of that first two games. He’s been light side rock from the three-point line. He’s been going crazy. I mean, crazy. And then you got Shingun. He’s an all-star for a reason. He gave you that. And then you get Adams coming off the bench and giving you what he gave you. They got a lot of confidence cuz they won backtoback games. They forced the game six. Now they forced the game seven. The Rock the Warriors have their work cut out for them. They went cold in that fourth quarter to start. They couldn’t get anything to fall and and and a lead that was what three four points all of a sudden went to 12 and uh the Rockets didn’t let off the gas and they didn’t look back. Oo. Yeah. Warriors. I thought Steph had it going. He got got hot there for a second. Him and Jimmy, but they didn’t get enough from the auxiliary players. Hey man, listen. The Warriors, the stars showed up. They showed up. Obviously, we didn’t we didn’t see the Steph Curry we’re used to seeing. Obviously, he had 29 points, but it took 23 shots to get there. Jimmy Butler had 27. But listen, Sun, but Young Bull special, Young Bull is special. And Van Fleet showed up tonight and did what he needed to do at being the veteran presence that the Rockers do have. Listen, them young boys, them young Bulls look like they wanted it more, the intensity, they they played on both both sides of the floor. Spacy was really good. And that goddamn Stephen Adams, listen, he was probably the differencemaker. When you when you talk about the size in which the Rockets have and how small how small the Warriors are, I think it comes down to making more shots cuz those those those second those second what do you call it? Um when you get the second attempt. Yeah, bingo. That’s that’s what you’re trying to say. The second attempts that the Rockets had is the reason why they won the game. And obviously them playing with a little bit more fire like they want a little bit more. Even though the experience of the Warriors who have been in positions like this before and had the experience with the Draymonds, you know, the Jimmy Butters that are used to being in playoff atmospheres, them young Bulls look like they wanted more. And listen, like you say, UNP, they got they got their uh stuff cut out for them having to travel. Now they got to go to goddamn Houston and seal a deal. And uh uh what is it? Uh you got to believe what what they what they uh uh never Rudy uh Rudy T never underestimate the heart of a champion. I don’t know if these Rockets are the champions, but that’s what Rudy T coined the play coined the phrase and it stuck. I think the thing is that when they went to that big lineup because Draymond is undersized, you can’t play Looney cuz he give you nothing on offense. Post wasn’t hitting any shots so you can’t play him. So, you’re really trying to say, Draymond, I need you to keep 7 foot, 300lb Steven Adams off the glass. I need you to keep 610, 611 Shingun off the glass. You’re asking too much. And you see they started to wear him down over and over, over and over again. Second chance points. They did a great job of finding Shingun in the high post. And then guess what? He take one dribble, he drops it off to Steven Adams, a dunk or he drops it off, he finds uh Thompson for a layup. He played extremely well tonight. I expected I expected Van Fleet because they got to do something with Van Fleet. They because he’s walking in shooting shoot around threes. He’s feeling that. That’s you know for me I knew the Warriors in trouble from jump because anytime you change your lineup that’s like a sign to the other team like oh we don’t know what to do with you now. The Rockets you know they’re when you that young anything can give you emotion, give you spark, give you energy. They over there like, “Oh, we got him.” They scared. They changed their lineup. And you think about this, they chang in there because they wanted somebody to slow Van Fleet down. But why, you know, don’t why change? Because you just talked about offense. You know, that’s no offense right there. And then you got Buddy Hill. We all know Buddy Hill is not a defensive player, but the one thing that’s that Kerr is going to he’s going to do the same thing that JJ Reic did and bite himself in the butt with it by not playing Kaminga. Yeah. Because you need size and you need athleticism to go up against this young and athletic. Yeah. But you gonna you mad at this dude. I don’t know what’s going on. If he cursed him out or something, he won’t play him. But this is your third leading scoreer on the team. He was your second leading scoreer on the team until you got But Butler, but now you’re not playing him. So, I don’t know what’s going on right there, but that’s going to cost them in this series cuz now you done gave the Rockets all type of energy and they gonna go back and probably win this series because you elect to do some dumb stuff like in game four, I mean game five and game and tonight. You know what? Go ahead. Before you go, what I think what I think for the words obviously going into game seven, what’s going to have to happen regardless of what the Rockets do? I think it’s going to have to be Jimmy Butler and it’s going to have to be Curry. Curry going to have to be a little bit more efficient from the field to overcome all the things that the Rockets do. Whether they go big, whether they go small, the only thing you do is put the goddamn ball in the bucket and have more points and just hope. Just hope whatever you can do, you got you got to lean on Curry. That’s the only That’s the only way. That’s the only way. Game seven going into I don’t know what stadium it is that the Rockers play in in Houston. Toyota. Toyota. That’s the only way it’s going to happen. Yeah. I think the thing is I I I like what Yodoka did. He went to a zone and every time Steph got the ball, they trapped him. They said, “Nah, bro. We going I don’t care if you I don’t care if you’re at the timeline. We going to get that ball out of your hand. Somebody else is going to beat us.” We don’t believe in a moment like this here cuz you know there’s a difference between shoot hitting shots in game one, two, three, four, five. Cuz this is an opportunity for advance. And now I you’re going to, like oo said, you’re going to have to rely a little bit more on Curry and Butler because a lot of these guys haven’t been in moments like this. Draymond has, but I’m not counting on Draymond to give me a whole bunch of points. I’m counting on him to give me somewhere between four and eight points. He’ll give you six, seven rebounds, five, six, seven assists. That’s what I’m expecting from him. But your production is going to have to come from Jimmy Butler and Steph Curry, guys that have been in this moment. But I thought you did a great thing. He went to the zone. He just said, “Look, do not get back picked because they’re going to try to come and set that back pick and have Curry floating.” And they kept their eyes on him. They gave up a couple of, you know, back door cuts because, you know, they got I got eyes on Steph and guys snuck behind him. Draymond got one, Jimmy Butler got one. Couple of guys got But I give you that. The one thing I don’t want to have happen is Steph Curry hit a couple of threes and he hit a couple early and he got the crowd into the game. I want to keep the crowd at bay as long as I possibly can. And then the longer you kept them at bay and then come the fourth quarter, they couldn’t buy a bucket. Steph had some great looks. Jimmy Butler had some great looks and it just wouldn’t go down for them. But hey, hey, yeah. Hey, hey, Rob. I mean, you could probably attest to this. Obviously being in that situation, I I consider pressure situations, obviously playing in the playoffs, going into a game seven, but one of the things just from from me watching from the naked eye, three things that the that the Warrior can clean up, but one, the turnovers. They had 16 turnovers tonight. They fouling. They had goddamn near 30 30 fouls and then under pressure, let’s say Eay goes to zone again in game seven. Relax. Tighten up under pressure. Relax. Continue to run your offense to do things in a relaxed manner. And if they trap if they if they trap Curry every time you get the ball, everybody else, including the supporting cast, you got to hit your shots. You got to hit your shots when it matters most. Yeah. You know, Steph got to hit his shots, too. Six for 16 from three ain’t going to cut it. And know sometimes I know Steph is considered the best shooter ever played this game. A lot of his threes to me were bad threes. I know he said, “Oh, that’s not a bad three for Curry.” But you can tonight was a bad threes. You can get off the ball because you move so much and the Rockets only going to play defense for so long. You can get a better shot. You know, that’s one thing about in the playoffs and I’m always harping on. You want an okay shot, a good shot, or a great shot. I know every time Steph touches the ball from anywhere in the gym, it’s usually a somewhat great shot. But when you got a long defensive team like the Rockets, those turn into good shots. I don’t care how great of a shooter you are. And for me, that’s one of the things they got to do. And for me, Draymond got to keep his cool because you don’t know the little antics you do that adds to other adds to the other team spark too. And so for me, he going into Houston, you know, they’re gonna be booing him. He’s going to get amped up. He’s going to have to play under control. Jimmy Buck’s gonna have play under control, but they gonna have to go back to their starting lineup because that’s how that’s the rhythm they have. Because when you got a guy like Jimmy Butter who just came into your season and you change the lineup on him, that can affect him because now, okay, how do I play with this dude? I just learned how to play with this guy. It’s little intricacies like that that coaches don’t think about that players need to know because I know like I know what route you gonna run from the quarterback and that’s what and like think about that now. the Jimmy’s out there being the quarterback and all of a sudden you got a guy that’s not gonna run to his point, meaning you know, uh, get to go. There’s depth on the route. Yeah. It’s like, okay, what do I do now? It messes up the rhythm. Yeah. So, hey, I think Go ahead, Oo. No, I was just going to ask Rob, uh, obviously, listen, you can attest to this, especially in a game situation like this, and you got an athletic player that can match up very well against the Rockets. Do you think Kerr plays Kaminga this game a little bit more being that he No. No. I don’t I don’t I don’t think he’s gonna play him at all. I don’t know what that situation is, but it’s been bad. You think about it since three games left in the season. He had he played him and he played him on the reason the other night because he needed someone and you know, you think about if he didn’t play him tonight and then in in garbage minutes to try to let him get some type of rhythm, he probably won’t play him um in game seven. You rather well you going despite rather despite whatever situation they got going on. You rather chance losing game seven based on what you saw tonight and not make the necessary changes to give you give your team the best chance to win. Hey, I wouldn’t do it. I’ve been playing them regardless because you know for me when you’re that talent that athletic, I know that you got to plan, man. Because so many coaches get pissed off at players and like, “Oh, I’m gonna show you.” No, you showing yourself because you only hurting your team and you know and I think that’s one of the mistakes that coaches make, you know, and it’s just hard for me to fathom that you rather have your pride get in the way of you getting a dub. Yeah. Well, you look, we’ve all played the sport for a long time and coaches would rather lose their way than win some other way. It’s just the way it is. True. And the part of coaching is coaching. Sometimes you’re like, “Okay, this is what we’re going to do.” But a really good coach say, “Well, you know what? That ain’t working. That wasn’t my original plan.” but let me try to find something else to go instead of being bullheaded. Well, I said I wasn’t going to play this guy. Well, I’m not playing this guy. It doesn’t work like that. If you’re going to be a coach, you got to be a coach at all time. And sometimes you have to swallow your pride as a player, as a coach, whatever the case may be, in order to get the victory. And I thought tonight, you know, yeah, I agree with you, Rob. Uh him changing the lineup because even if you put when you put Payton in, yeah, you get defense, but the floor is not spaced as much as when you got PMIC in there. So now all of a sudden the floor is a little bit more condensed. Yeah, you might get a little bit more on ball pressure with Van Fleet. But what you’re giving up on the other end because you want as much space as you possibly can for your shooters like a Steph, like a Buddy Hill, like a uh uh Po Zimsky. But now it’s condensed. Draymond Draymond is not a threat. They’ll give Dre, if you notice, like the last three games, Draymond take the first shot. They’ll give him that three. Yeah, they shoot that. Go ahead. You You’re not going to make enough of those to put fear. Ain’t nobody going to say, “Hey, get a hand up. Don’t even worry about it. Let him have that. Let him have let him have that shot.” I’m not getting I don’t want open looks for Steph. I don’t want open looks for Buddy Hill and Pazki. But here’s the thing, Rob. Buddy Hill gave you zero tonight. Buddy gave you nothing. You said uh Steph I think the thing what makes Steph so dangerous and how he gets the crowd in is when that he takes those shots from 25 30 feet away and it’s a bad shot for everybody else and it goes in. Not only does it gets the crowd going, it gets him going. So now he sees it goes in after he’s taken a shot and he turns and goes down before the ball goes through the net. Boy, you’re in trouble. you you you’re in trouble when that start happening because he he feels it and now there is no bad shot. If he see a couple of them things go in Rob, ain’t no bad shot for him the rest of the night. Yeah, but if they don’t go in, he’s six for 16. Yeah. Yeah. He needed he needed Look, you got great production from him and Jimmy Butler. Jimmy Butler uh 12 and 14 from the free throw line. That’s what Jimmy does. He’s going to put pressure on you now. He’s going to attack. Yeah. Uh they needed one other player. Uh Draymond gave him eight. Uh Buddy gave him nothing. Uh GP the second gave him uh gave him five points. That’s not enough. I thought Moody I thought Moody would get more minutes cuz he came in some big threes. I thought Moody would get more minutes, Rob, than what he than the 20 minutes that he got. 22, excuse me. You know what’s weird? Because Moody has been playing very well in this series. You think about you want a guy that’s going to give you 12 to 13 points and is active like he is and he hasn’t gotten as much play as I thought he would. You know, for me, if you’re going to start, keep him in the starting lineup. Do something. Let Buddy Hill, who’s been coming off the bench all year, keep coming off the bill off the bench. And it’s just one of those things where Steph, yo, we know this is your arena. We know it’s your league. But sometimes defer, you know, I play with a lot of grace and them mugs sometime they come down like, yo, if you knocking down the shots, I ain’t taking those shots. You carry us. And that’s one of the things that Jimmy Butler’s really good at, too, cuz he can get it going and he will defer to other people. Well, that’s the one thing about Steph though. Steph is not a guy that really defers cuz he doesn’t have to. But I think when he goes in Houston and that Houston crowd and he not knocking down them shots, he’s going to have to be a facilitator because he ain’t going to be able to do it on his own. You know, people forget the Rockets are a defensive team because you got Eay back there. You got a lot of guys that know how to play defense. They’re long, the athletic. So, you’re going to have to share the basketball if they want to try to come back and win this series. Yeah. Um, you got Thompson who’s who’s long and athletic. Dylan Brooks is known as a defensive stopper. Uh, uh, Een, uh, Steven Adams. I mean, they they got guys that can pressure the basketball, but if I’m I’m doing everything I possibly can to not let Steph get going early in that game seven, that’s the last thing I wanted to do, have like 10, 12 points in the first quarter. Uh, now he gets an extended rest for the second because you got to think about it tonight, he played 42 minutes. Steph don’t normally play those kind of minutes. That’s a lot of minutes for a guy at his age. people don’t people don’t plus how he runs cuz he’s perpetual motion. He’s not a guy that’s that’s taking a lot of breaks because he has to work he’s working to get his shot. So he’s from sideline to baseline to baseline and then you forget it’s not two games two um rest days is play off play. So he only got one day of rest 24 hours before he back on that court. So that’s and then he got to fly. Yep. So and it’s a three-hour flight maybe four hour because [ __ ] you might not take off in San Francisco with all that damn fog sometimes. So you you can’t get out of that. Fred Van Fleet in his last What’ you say? You said something. I I was just going to say the good the good thing about Steph the chances of him having a game like this like tonight where it takes him so many shots to even get to 29 27 with how many points he had. He ain’t he ain’t going to double that. He not going to have another game like that. I think he’s going to be much more efficient. Buddy Hill probably going to be much better. And they they probably gonna get Buddy Hill Buddy Hill going early. And I really, for some reason, I don’t know why, where Kerr really understanding. I’m sure Draymond or maybe Steph will probably talk to Kerr with with great understanding, we need a little bit more help. We need a little bit more size. You know, you got to do something and get Kaminga in there some kind of way before we be sitting at home in goddamn Cancun. I thought the Rockets one thing for no reason. They put a lot of pressure on them. They shot 46 free throws, Bob. They shot 46 free throws. It’s been a while since I se seen the team shoot 46 free throws, but 16 of those went to Stephen Adams and a lot of that had to do it because they they was hacker Adams and he made, you know, down the stretch he made him pay for that. He was he was making them. Yeah. I’m It’s one of those things where you try that, you know, that’s all that pop stuff. You remember Pop did that Shack and you know the Hacker Shack and you got to think about some of these guys. You make one, you make two, you got to go away from it because that guy has a little real, you know, sometime you want to trust the process. You talked about following your game plan. There’s certain game plans you have to scrap. You know, Stephen Adams, you know, he don’t his um free throw percentage might be bad, but the dude, you look at his form, the way he approaches it, everything is fundamentally sound. So, he can knock him down. He just don’t knock him down because he don’t shoot a lot. So, it looked like a percentage of bad. Uh the Rockets, excuse me, the uh the Warriors shot 22 free throws. All of them came from three guys. Draymond was one for two, Jimmy was 12 of 14, and Steph was five of six. So that tells me they’re not nearly aggressive enough. When you only got three guys that take your free throw attempts, that means like and but but the thing is that’s not that’s not that’s not who they are. That’s what you get from a a jump shooting team. When you shoot jump shots, you don’t go to the free throw line. And and the thing about, you know, you talk about analytics of basketball, shooting threes. I’ve always had the mindset if you’re shooting the threes, you’re playing soft. Why? Because you’re not trying to create shots. You’re not trying to get to the rack. So you taking the easy way out. So I’m just gonna pull up for a three. Think about that. If I pull up for a three, that’s easy. Now if I had to cross someone else, spin, get to the rack, that’s hard work. You think about Ant-Man. Ant-Man don’t he don’t mind that work. You just saw he put in that work. And now you get to these guys want to shoot jump shots. You’re not gonna get to the foul line. And the only reason Steph gets those fouls sometimes because if you watch closely, he’s causing the contact. He’s really good at that. And also when he does that Yeah. And I hate when he does that because a lot of times when he does it, he’s not even concentrating on the shot. He’s concentrating on the foul. Just take the damn shot to make the shot. If you get fouled, so be it. Hey, Rob, I got I just want to say one thing about you talk about Curry being able to put the ball on the floor and create his own space in his own shot. You you mentioned Anthony Edwards. John Mor can do it as well. But you got to think about it. When you look at the landscape of all the teams in the NBA, including those in the playoffs, it’s only maybe one or two players on each team that can do that, that can go ISO, that can put the ball on the floor and create their own shots. So it’s not that many of them. So once you take that when you trap a player like a Curry and they have to facilitate then now you got to get everybody else involved and it puts pressure on them that I didn’t I didn’t know it’s still a game of basketball and everybody like told me before everybody didn’t have the green light to shoot the ball at will. Hell no. I I I just learned that I’m thinking well hell if if I’m open just shoot it. N I if you open you open for a reason. They help they help it out on your ass. That’s why you open. They go, hey, they going to play the percentages. They going to let you take that shot. You know, you knock down two then it might guard you. I ain’t know all that, man. Fred Van Fleet, last three games, he had 29 points. He has six threes tonight. 26 points, four made threes, 25 points, eight made threes. So, his last his last, uh, three ball games. He’s got 18 made threes, uh, more points and threes than Steph. He’s been, look, he’s the veteran presence on this team. He’s the guy that’s been in championship moments. He’s the guy that’s been on that stage in the Eastern Conference where they were, you know, in the in the uh Eastern Conference Finals. They went to a champion, they led Kawwai led them to an NBA title. He’s he’s the guy. So, this is what he needs to do. Hey, follow me. Follow me. He’s the leader. He did what he was supposed to do. He got great contribution from Shinun. Now, Shenun is the best player, but the man presence of the the best. Best Jaylen better than Green. Hell yeah. Yes. Yes. You talking? Yeah. Jaylen Green was only had one good game so far in this playoff series. He was three of 11, one for six. He had 12 points. Shun is an allar. I’m I’m just talking about I’m talking about Yeah, I know Singon is the all-star, but I’m just saying Jaylen Green is supposed to be that next up and coming that boy in Houston or am I mistaken? No, you you you’re not mistaken, but we kind of we talking about right now. We talking about what he’s supposed to be right on the floor. If you want to talk about totality, Shingun still the best player because he’s rebounding. He’s uh he’s he’s scoring points. He’s getting assists. Jaylen Green is just a high flyer right now and that’s all he’s living off of. He got to do more than try to, you know, that’s the one thing that when I watch the NBA now, there’s so many guys that have become showman instead of playing the damn game. They want to, you know, do all these antics when they hit a three. They want to, you know, it’s it’s just play the damn game. You know, you make a damn shot, big damn deal. You know, you get back and play some defense. I It’s How many times have you seen a guy make a shot on the other end and get their ass beat on the other end of defense because they doing this [ __ ] Just get back and play. And that’s one thing that that you you watch Jay Jaylen Greeny play. He has a tendency to like try to get to the hole, look at the crowd, and next thing you know, you know, get your ass back on defense. So that’s why Singon, he’s just a hard worker, man. He in that paint. He dunking on people. He can get people involved. He’s the best player on that team. They thought it was going to be Jaylen Green. Shingun has taken over. Shenon, he leads the Rockets in points, rebounds, assists, and steals in the playoffs. Dang. Jaylen Brunson, gamewinner over the Pistons. What a shot. What a moment. The Knicks win the series. Rob, you’re one of the great clutch shot shooters. Let me ask you this. I think for our audience, they want to know in that moment, are you thinking like, man, if I make this shot, I’m the hero, if I miss it, or you just going through the it’s the same whether the moment is there or not. It’s just like if it was the first quarter, the second quarter, or third quarter. What goes through your head when you’re taking a shot that could potentially win you the game or lose you the game? You don’t think about anything, man, because it’s just like when you in a gym, you taking all these shots to prepare for this moment. You you put the reps in and that’s what you got to do. That’s why you see guys, you know, you take Kobe for instance, he used to be in the gym 247. So everything came easy for him. And if you put in the time and the work and the sacrifice, these moments like this, you don’t even think about it. You think about Jaylen Brunson, most guys, they like going to their off hand to pull up for their jump shot because you can square up a little bit better. He got you going left like he thought, “Oh, he’s a strong left guy.” He was setting him up. He set Thompson up. I’m coming right back over here to where I want to knock down this three. So, it’s just it’s just a process that you go through each and every day. If you watch him, he is so good at manipulating the defense. He can get you on your hip and then he can cause the contact or he can get you he can he can gauge your speed if you’re going too fast. He stops on a dime and pulls up and I think for him and any any guy who’s playing this game long enough you don’t think about it. You just do it. It’s just second nature thing to you man. You just you just enjoy the moment and you just hope that you make that mug so you can talk a lot of [ __ ] He he does a great job, Rob, as you mentioned, but he gets his body in such a position to shoot that shot cuz like you said, he’s a left-handed player and most left-handed players are left-hand dominant. They’re trying to get to that left side. They want to go left. He did that and then if you notice, he stepped back and squared himself and let it go. He hit a uh Shruder. He got a and one on Shruder and he got a tough step back. He I mean the way he can like get his body in position to take and make tough shots for a guy his size. He’s not a big guy. I mean his body I mean you know what I’m saying? He you know he got a little little G to him. You know he got some but he sure I mean he what you think six foot? I think he about six 61. He hit that. But but his ability and he’s stronger than you think for a guy his size because the way he can like put that that shoulder in your chest Mhm. and get that and get that shot off and square himself and to knock these shots down. He was sensational. They couldn’t buy a basket for the first nine 10 minutes of the ball game and then all of a sudden he said, “Man, just give me the ball. What y’all doing?” And every shot that needed to be t taken and made. Now they got a huge tip in by Bridges. Somebody missed the shot and they didn’t block out and Bridges got the tip. They tied it up. But you know once they missed that shot I said, “Oh boy, y’all better y’all better get this ball.” Mhm. Because Thompson had just made a great defensive play of like two possessions earlier. He got a shot clock violation on his cop. He went to go up and he stripped him of the ball. He’s like, “Yeah, I got something for you. I got something for you. Just hold that.” But hold on. I I got a question for you for for for Rob, man. For you and Unk, right? As as great as Jaylen Brunson was in this series, as great as he’s been, obviously being a very very clutch player, hell, he just won NBA clutch player of the year, right? All right. Obviously showing showing his offensive prowess tonight with 40. Is there any chance y’all giving the Knicks and winning this series against the Celtics? Any chance? No. No. No. No. And the reason I say no is because when you look at the Celtics, they got six guys that can score. And I every time I look at the Knicks, I they remind me of AI. You know, they got this one guy that does all the scoring. Everybody else does two or three things really, really good to make that pie hole. And you take out Bridges, who’s one of my favorite players. When they use him and he’s able to score, they’re a totally different team. But I just think the Celtics has too much firepower. And one of the things they don’t talk about with the Celtics is you look at them, they got four good defensive players out there on that court, you know, and that’s and and we don’t talk about that because we so caught up in all the threes they shoot. But you think about, you know, White, Holiday, even Brown, these guys are [ __ ] good defenders. And so they got bodies to throw at Bronson, a little short sale. And so that’s going to be hard. And I, you know, going back to Bronson, the one thing that makes him really good is, this is going to sound really crazy, is left-handed players are always uh have that ability to get to the line and do things because you’re not used to that. You hardly ever run across a left-handed player. You think about Manu Jovi, who I played with. He was so good because you’ll think he’s about to do something is right. He like, “Oh [ __ ] he’s left-handed.” By the time you think about it, it’s too [ __ ] late. He done jade you up because it’s just not what you’re used to. It’s uncommon. But I just think he he I think the Knicks might win one game because they play hard. I think overall I just think the Celt Yeah, it’s going to be a gentleman sweep, man. I just think this if the Celtics stay healthy, you know, they they’ve been getting a little banged up here and there, but I just think the Celtics are too good. Yeah, cuz when you look at it, think about what they go. They got Derek White that can defend. They got Holiday that can defend. They got JB that could defend. They got bigger Horford that can defend. Porzingis can protect the paint. And then they bring Pritchette off the bench that can score. Hower that can score. Cornet that can that can give you a little rebounding. Uh they’re loaded. You we know JT can defend if he have to, but he can score. JB can score. Derek White can score. They got scorers and they got defenders. So they’re always going to have at bare minimum two quality defenders on the court at all times. And so when you have that, when you got two guys that could defend, but look what they start with. So if they start Holiday, you got Holiday, Derek White, JP, Al Horford. Honestly, I’mma tell you this. I like the Knicks winning at least three games. No, they win. You got to win three games. I got to win three games. I mean, hey Raw, you want to you want to you want to bet some on it? You want to throw a little throw wage on them? What you want? Make [ __ ] Make it light on yourself. Bet 5,200. That’s very specific. Why you said 500? Hey, I’m just trying to I’m I owe I owe on 5200. So, I’m just trying to I’m trying to make it up some other kind of way and trying to break even. Rob, let me ask you this. Of all the game winners that you hit, what’s your favorite one? Uh Lakers against the Kings when the ball came. I tell you that game seven. Was that a game? That was game seven. No, it’s game four. Game four. You know, we lose that game. We go down 3-1. And the reason it’s my favorite because if you look at most of my game winners, they were all done on the road. And so this one was done at home. And you got a chance to rejoice in it with the crowd. Yeah. I got I grew up a huge Lakers fan, man. I grew up a big Magic Johnson fan. You know, you would never being a Laker, you’re used to them chanting Kobe, Kobe or Shaq. You know, when you get a chance to knock down a big three and you hear them chant your name like that, man, it’s the best feeling ever. I I I think you for me it’s probably outside of Kobe’s last game is the greatest moment in Staple/crypto and the if you every time I see the shot from above and had when I make it and the crowd just jumps up and cheers I get goosebumps every time I see it you know even though I love what I did in 2005 against the Pistons in game five when I lit their ass. Yeah, that’s what I was that’s what I was thinking. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But you know it’s you know we all as an athlete we all got that ego. We all got that pride. You want to hear them fans chant your name. But I tell you what though, I only have like one picture up. I don’t even have that shot up in my house, but I do have the picture of me making that shot against the Pistons because I just like looking at the faces of the people in the crowd. You got some people like the no. And you got one guy in the crowd like this like, “Yeah, cuz he knew it was going in.” Uh people I I don’t know if people realize this, Rob, but before those black injuries, you were a high flyer. You was ele I mean, you was punching on folks. I mean, you were up over the top. People look at you and it’s like, man, all he did was shoot threes. No, no, no, no, no. when you came in. I mean, I don’t know what it is about them uh uh them Alabama guys, you and McN, all them guys had up up and away ups and and I don’t know if people realize that, but you were a high flyer, a 610 guy that finished above the rim and then you turned yourself. I think it was the back injury that you turned yourself in more of a shooter. You still could punch on folks, but not like you could when you first got into Houston. No, no. It’s so weird when you come in the league. A funny story is like my my middle son, he came to me one time like, “Daddy, you don’t ever dunk anymore. You can’t even dunk.” And it was that one dunk in the playoffs against the Detroit Pistons that I dunked on Rip Hamilton while I took out outside the paint. And I said, “See, your dad can still dunk. I just don’t have to.” But you know, the weird part about it is when I got to the Lakers, they was like, “Oh, we don’t want you to, you know,” they said, “We need you to just spot up.” And the worst thing as an athlete, if any athletes listening is don’t let coaches limit you, limit you in what you can do. And I think, you know, this day and age is a little bit different. Back then it was a little bit more I need you to do this, this, and this. And so in my mind became, okay, this is what they want me to do. Spot up and shoot threes and all this kind of stuff. But I I I showed my my my youngest son, Christian, who’s at UCL, let me show you something, man. Come sit down. And I’ll show him my highlights of me and Rockets when I used to dunk. He looked at me like, “Damn, you had hops.” I was like, “Yeah, I just stopped doing it cuz they didn’t want I didn’t have room to do it cuz Shaq was in the damn fight. That’s dope. That’s live.” Hey, hey, hey, Rob. some of those some of them clutch shots you hit. Were you able did you ever keep any of the balls or especially especially I mean you you got some really really really good moments and and for me I would want to keep the I would I would I personally would want to keep those balls. You don’t you don’t have any? You know I I really I have I have one okay um I have one from it’s actually the the game seven ball against the Knicks. I have that and only reason I have that because I I I told the guy said because the first two points of game seven was me dunking on Patrick and I like I want that ball. I want that ball. So I I have that ball and I wish I had the one I made against the Kings because [ __ ] I if I lost if I betted you and lost I just sell that and get me a lot of money to cover that. So I know you Laker fans will love that ball. But speaking you talk about balls and being able to sell a ball and get you a lot of money. Listen, I got a prize possession. That’s what I meant to say. I’m supposed to have it in closing the case, right? But I got I got the game ball when LeBron hit his 50th point. 50,000. Yeah. Like listen, 50,000 point. And that’s something that you would think he would keep. Show him. Show him. Show him the secret. Yeah. Uh so it’s a 50,000 point ball right there. You see 50,000 point and LeBron sign. Yeah. Yeah. So I mean, if if I ever fall on hard times, man, this this here going to come in handy. If you fall on hard times and try to sell that ball, you gonna stay on hard times. Exactly. Hey, you might you might end up on real hard times. Greg Papovich stepped out in jail. Greg Papovic stepped out as a coach of the San Antonio Spurs today, ending a nearly three decade run that saw him lead the team to five championships. He’s the all-time winningest coach uh in NBA history. And he’s a three-time coach of the year. and he’s a Hall of Fame. He won a gold medal and he’s inducted to the basketball hall of fame. Rob, you played for Pop. What What was it about Pop that made him special? What was your What’s going to be your lasting memory of playing for Pop? I I think for me it’s just his how genuine he was. And you know, he he was one of those coaches where he’s one of those coaches where he’ll yell at you and then take you to have some Noki and some wine. You know, his two favorite things. And and for me, I think I I tell this story all the time. The one thing that really made me fall in love with the guy was my daughter who passed away was really sick my last year with the Spurs. And she went into the hospital like at the beginning of the season. And he was like, “Don’t don’t come back until she’s out of the hospital.” And I sat in the hospital with her for like three weeks. And then she finally got out of the hospital. And I came back like a day after. He says, “Is she out of the hospital?” Like, “Yes, she got home like two days ago.” He said, “She ain’t out of the woods yet. Get go back home, you know, we don’t really need you right now. And and I looked at I’m like, “Are you trying to get rid of me over the slide?” He said, “No, man. Family first, you know, family first.” And that’s what that’s how Pop always was, man. You know, I just heard the day about the story with Demar Rose when his pops pass and now it’s like and that goes to show you, you know, there’s some things bigger than a freaking game, right? And Pop realized that, you know, he was always about, you know, spending time with your family, doing what’s important. And and and I remember even my last year, I went to him and I was like, you know, I want to ask a favor. Like, what? I said, it’s my last year. I said, can I my son’s on spring break, we going on a road trip. Can I bring my son with me? He’s like, man, yeah, don’t even ask me no question like that. He said, this, you know, it’s it’s it’s about the family. It’s about doing things. And and and a lot of teams wouldn’t let you do that, you know, cuz I remember I remember the Lakers back in the day you said, “Hey, can you get the flight back?” No, it was liability, you know, insurance thing. I’m like, “What is this? A flight home? What?” So, but Pop was he’s he’s he was really really good about, man, if it came down to your family, you do whatever’s necessary for your family. Everybody talks about the relationship that he had with Duncan because I think Duncan was the lynch pin because if you could coach Tim Duncan hard, you can coach everybody else hard. And Timmy was receptive. And that’s what you have to Timmy was one of these superstars that if you didn’t watch the game, you would never know he was a superstar. He didn’t dress like a superstar. Hell, I remember he showed up what to pick up an MVP trophy with flip flops and shorts on. Like David Str probably wanted to swing on Timmy. He had on shorts. You You remember that, Bob? Yeah. He had on jeans shorts. George flip-flop and David St. Hey, but that was Timmy. What What was it about Coach Pop and Tim’s relationship that made it so unique and special? I I think we’re going to back this up a little bit because you really have to credit David Robinson because you think about he had David Robinson when Tim came and David was like, “Yo, this is what we do here.” And Tim just follow suit. You know, Tim is just that type of guy. He doesn’t say much. You can talk if you talk about cars, he’ll talk to you. You talk about video games, he’ll talk to you. You talk about poker. those three things and he going to talk about that he ain’t going to really talk to you for us you know we we it it took me a year just to get him to say a couple words to me and but he is just a he he he is a type of guy who’s really focused we don’t you know we always talk about Kobe’s work ethic we talk but this dude was always in the gym shooting jump shots you know always trying to get to perfect that bank shot which we know he was famous for shooting a lot of free throws because you know he that was one of his um his downfall his weaknesses when he came in. Yeah. Yeah. And he just he he he worked hard, but he was just he if you talk about guys who, you know, I used to I had to get on to him one time like, “Dude, can you [ __ ] yell at somebody, man? You sitting know like with your mouth closed, you know, you yell at someone, you’re gonna be like EF Hutton, everybody’s going to perk up and listen.” So, he was just he he he was very mild manner. Well, he’s mild manner. didn’t want to say much, but the guy was he he he competed and he he was and when he when he let you into his world, one of the nicest guys you’ll meet. You mentioned the Twin Towers cuz uh uh David Robinson was there, but when David was I mean they won them championship was David, but David was on the tail end of his career. That was a that was I mean basically a Tim Duncan team from the time he walked in the door. Oh, he he was just that good. And he was one of the last guys that was a true senior that was the number one overall. Kenya Martin was the last one I think in 2000, but Timmy was what 90 98 I think the 98 draft was Timmy’s uh uh first year, but he was the last the last of those guys that went four years of college and came out. So, he was more than ready, more than prepared for the grind because basically he was a grown man. He wasn’t 18, he wasn’t 17. Tim Dugen was a 22 year old grown man when he got to the NBA. See you. You tell me something I did not know. I thought he came out early. You’re just so used to everybody coming out early, you know, think about and I that’s the one thing I hate about the NBA. I know these dudes are freaking 21 when they get to college now. But I I just wish that that that that I’m about to say David Stern that Adam Civil put like two years onto it because these guys, you can tell by the way these guys play now. That’s why so many threes are being shot because they don’t know how to play. They doing what’s easy, just taking the threes and not learning the game. You know, you got some guys that are going to come in the league that know how to play the game because of the the upbringing and how they were taught. But it’s just it’s just it’s just a lot of bad basketball being played because guys don’t know how to play. You know, you think about tonight watching the game. Like, dude, the first thing you learn in high school and college is how to beat the damn zone, right? The zone is the easiest freaking thing to beat. And you can’t beat the zone. It’s like go to the open spots, go to the dunker spot, go back door. And it just shows you right there that the guys aren’t learning anything because they all just trying to, you know, get to the next level to the league without learning something. Rob, you played with some of the greats. I mean, you was on a team with Tim Duncan. You was on the team with Shaq and Kobe. You was on the team with a lot Dream and Drexler. And I know people ask you what the difference between Dream and Duncan. The difference between Duncan and and and Shaq, the difference between uh uh uh Clyde and Kobe. What are some of the different look because look all of those guys that I just mentioned are t 75 greatest players in NBA history um MVPs finals MVPs defensive players of the year when you got when you got to the Rockets what was it about the dream that you know okay this guy’s special what set him apart oh [ __ ] I knew Dream was special when I watched him in high school I mean college because hey when I when I was coming out I said I want to play alongside this guy you know I I was praying that I went to Rockers and God willing I did because you could just see his work ethic. You know, you watch him, you know, guys always talk about going into the lab. Dream would be in the lab and we didn’t even know it. He would be working on stuff and then he’ll just all of a sudden get in the game. You know, you think about in 95 how he annihilated David. Yeah. Because he said they to they gave him took his MVP from him. Yeah. All that stuff we had never seen before. You should have seen us on the court. We going like, “Oh, Kill him Drake.” We became fans on the court, right? And so you just and you you watch him, man, he just played hard, man. You think about, you know, back in the day when he you forget he used to knock some people out, too. Oh, yeah. You know, he had that toughness, you know, you you elbow him, he would he would because it was only a $50 fine, you know, punch someone in the face. And so he had that toughness and he just had that. The one thing about Dream though is he we talk about how hard guys play is like how hard Giannis plays, how hard Bronson plays, how hard he’s got. Dream play hard each and every night. And you know people would talk about who’s the greatest center, who’s this, who’s that. Dream to me is always going to be top three centers. Wow. Because if he needed to shoot threes, he could have shot threes. He didn’t because he had us out there and you couldn’t stop him in the paint any damn way. So he just gonna kill you that way. So he was just, you know, he was just a hard worker and but more important great guy cuz he taught me about the business of basketball. He was like, “Yo, I remember one time at a Christmas party.” He took me outside and said, “Listen, you’re going to be on this team now. Let’s talk about, you know, things outside of basketball. What you doing with your money? You know, how’s the family? You know, are you investing? Do you have the right people?” He was just a good guy. You know, a lot of guys now, you know, they won’t they won’t come to you and be like, “Yo, man, you need to check your finance. You need to do this.” They can like, “Uh, [ __ ] it. I learned it on my own. You on your own.” And so, I just that’s one of the things I loved about Dream. He he he taught me about the business of basketball. So, you leave Houston and you go to the Well, you know, you have You didn’t go right to You ain’t got to go there, huh? No, you have You got to talk about You have a little pit stop. You had a little pit starter set in uh in Phoenix. You You had You have a cup of coffee at the airport. He got right back on the plane and went to LA. So you get to LA, Shaq and Kobe. What you like, damn, got Shaq, got Kobe. What what what y’all need me to do? Yeah. You know what’s weird? When I got there, man, I was looking at the team. We had Nick Banex at the point. We had Eddie Jones at the two. I said, “Okay, I can play the three.” You know, got back then I was a threeman and I said, “We got a young guy like this.” You know, everybody’s like, “Oh, you got to see this rookie Kobe Bryant.” I’m like, “Who?” And then you get to the practice, you see how good this dude is. Okay, he’s learning. And then you got Shaq, you know, you say, “Okay, Shaq just got beat in 95 in the finals.” And you got all this talent. I said, “Oh man, we about to do some work.” I said, “We gonna do some work for some years because everybody’s young. Everybody’s under 30.” But sometimes it goes to show you too many cooks in the kitchen when it comes to basketball. Ain’t good. You got to have some guys that are glue guys, some screw guys, you know, some bolts and do the things to keep the team together. And you think about we had four allars. Yeah. And then we got swept by a damn team that been together for 30 years. Oh, Utah. That was That was Kobe’s rookie year, wasn’t it? That was Kobe’s rookie year. Yeah. Yeah. And then the f and then and then 99, you know, we got beat. We got beat by the Spurs. Lost the last game in the form to the Spurs. And then that was when we got new coaches and we said we got rid of Nick. We got rid of Eddie and we brought in defensive-minded people. You know, we brought in Ron Harper, we bought in B Shaw, we bought in Rick Fox, we did all these things. We bought in AC Green and it was that glue. Was Grant there then? Oh, Grant only came for the last No, whole Grant was on on the second championship in 2000 2001. Yeah. So, and it was just weird, man. You just And and that goes to show you when you got too much talent, it’s hard to blame. can get in the way. But when you got when you got enough talent and you got guys who mature and you can you can tell Kobe and Shaq to shut up and sit your ass down and do what you’re supposed to do and they going they gonna you think about it. We used to tell Kobe, “No, dude, you ain’t doing that tonight. Oh, Shaq, you ain’t doing that.” And they will listen to us because we are veteran guys, you know. Now you got this going on. Guys, you know, respect us. We had a lot of respect for one another and it was no animosity. And people always ask me about the Kobe Shaq thing. I was like, man, I must have been [ __ ] blinded because they never had beef in front of us. It was all in the papers, man. You know, and that was the weirdest thing when people like would talk about it. I’m like, they in the locker room laughing and joking. They the first people to hug after a championship. I know you you tell me. You You won a championship. Who’s the first person you hug you hugged after you won a championship? Probably the your favorite player on the team. Absolutely. And so that’s why I was like me. They would say, “Oh, they beefing.” I’m like, “When? Where?” So, it was just weird to me. How good was Shaq? You look at Shaq, and I tell people, I don’t think people realize how athletic Shaq was. When Shaq got to the league, like Shaq first five or six years, when Shaq was like 71, 325 and can move like a We’re never going to see that again. You’re never going to see a guy his size with that kind of agility. You’re just not. Now, you might have like a Joic got the footwork and Joel Me got footwork, but I’m talking about just raw athleticism and power. You’re never going to see a skilled O’Neal again. Never. Yeah. Never. You know, you think about if you always talk about if you start a team, if I can take the 2000, the 1999 2000 Shaq, the MVP Shaq, and have him that Shaq, and put him on, that’s my first person, not Jordan, not Dream, not Dare. That’s the first person I’m picked to start my line. If I can get that Shaq because he was just so dominant. He was just so strong, so athletic. You think about this. This guy can bring the ball down, cross your spin, take out from outside the paint, then monkey dunk on your ass and ain’t nothing you can do, you know, and and you you go back and look at a lot of tape and I’ve heard this out of ref’s mouth. I’m sitting there. You can hear all you hear is on him and he’s not getting the call. He’s like, “Oh, he’s too big. He should be able to handle it.” I’m like, “Dude, it’s a freaking foul. He’s slapping this [ __ ] out of all right y’all gonna piss him off and then I’m gonna get out of the way cuz he gonna start elbowing people.” And you can tell when he got frustrated because he’ll do that sp like this here. He don’t care who he hitting. I’m like, so yeah, he was he was a like I said, if you got one player, one moment, I’m taking 1999 2000 Shaq and I’m starting the team with that guy if I can get that guy each and every night. Okay, Kobe, you you Kobe is is is a 17. He gets there at 17. Now, by the time they start to win championships, he’s the Kobe. He’s He’s become what he became, and you get to see it on full display. He can still elevate over the top. He got the midi. He could bop bop. Oh, he had it. He had the package. And if you need him to sit in the chair for 40 minutes and take the opposing team’s point, two threes, I got it. Yeah. He and he wanted that challenge. And you know, you you know, I know you think LeBron is the greatest of all time, and you people talk about uh MJ being the greatest of all time. I want you to think you when you watch Kobe Bryant, he did every freaking thing like MJ and he probably took it to another level because Kobe, you know, when Kobe first came in the league, we used to laugh and joke like, “You can’t shoot threes.” He didn’t shoot threes like MJ, but he we we would like joke with him. So that dude would be in the gym every morning at 5:00 shooting number threes and now he can shoot threes. And it’s things like that that why he was great. You could tell him he was not good at something. He would prove you wrong by going and and working on it and adding to his game. This dude, you know, God rest his soul, was the hardest working dude I ever seen in my life. And you think about when the where he went from his rookie year where he just played wow, you know, he didn’t have no structure to his game to understanding that, oh, I gotta tone this down. And I don’t know if it’s because he talked to MJ, he talked to Phil or whatnot, but when we got Phil, it it made him more structured than I’ve ever seen before. So he he the dude was just phenomenal, man. So, I hate when we talk about the GOAT and we never bring him up like cuz it’s like, you know, to me the GOATs are MJ, Kobe, LeBron, and Kareem. Those are the goats. And why do we have to put one, one, two, one, three, and four? Those four guys right there. Why can’t four goats? That’s the Mount Rushmore right there. Why Why didn’t playing on that team alongside Shaq and Kobe? Why didn’t they win more individual MVPs? Kobe didn’t win one until later late late like 200 what I think 2009 or 2010 he won the MVP. Why didn’t they win? Why didn’t Shaq win more MVPs? Why didn’t Kobe win MVPs? Did they cancel each other out? I don’t think they cancel each other out. I I just think, you know, if you if you look at the league back then, it was hard to win back to backs unless you was a white guy Steve Nash. And so, you know, you think about that second Steve Nash. That should have won that in Miami for real though. Yeah. So, it’s so many things you can look at. It’s just weird. You know, you think about MJ when he was in the league. He didn’t win it every year. You know, you it’s always someone different and like you think about this year. Even though Joic is having the best freaking career, best year of his career, he ain’t gonna win. He gonna probably give it a shake, you know, and and and it’s just how they do it. And I don’t know why, but I think Kobe should have probably won at least three. Shaq should have won at least I think Shaq should have won at least two, you know. I think his his I think the year he won it he should have won it and then the following year he should have won it. You know, other than that I think you know cuz you think about his third our third championship he wasn’t as dominant as he was. He was still effective. He just didn’t bring that. You think about he wasn’t the shack before that. And that’s what they based off. They always say okay we going to take your last year. What did you do better than that year? And I I think it he was just consistent. He never like went up a little bit to another level. Uh Tim Duncan. Um Tim Tim Duncan had one of the great games. He had a damn near a quadruple double. He was two blocks away from a quadruple double in an NBA Finals game when he played when he played uh the the Nets uh that year. I think he had 21 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists, and eight blocks. Yeah, that was a nest, man. The nest that was a nest. We had just sw just swept the nest a year before that or whatever it was. The Nest was like, you know, poor poor poor JK, Richard Jefferson, that crew, you know, you were a beast in the East, but when it came to playing the teams to West, you was just like, you like the Lakers and the Clippers. You’re just a little brother. So, it was it was they made a good challenge, but you go back and look at the East back then. East was terrible, man. They were god awful. And so, but Tim Duncan though, that goes to show you when he wants to take over, he can take over, man. He and and the one thing I like about Tim, when it comes to blocking shots, he didn’t care if you dunked on me. Like, [ __ ] I don’t care. I don’t have social media. I don’t care what you say. You know, people in San Antonio gonna still bow down to me. And, you know, most guys will shy away from trying to, you know, go up against a Vince card, think you might get dunked on. They like, “Nah, I ain’t challenged that.” Tim didn’t give a [ __ ] He would try to challenge you anyway to block it because he he he knew nine times out of ten he was gonna block it and it’s gonna start a fast break. All right, your Mount Rushmore teammates. You get four teammates on on Mount Rushmore. Who you going with? Dream, Shaq, Kobe, Clyde. Damn, you you took Clyde over Timmy. You know what? This is the one thing, you know, I I I love Timmy, but I’m going with Clyde. Clyde’s my boy, man. You know, sometimes personal feelings get in the way sometime. Hey, I’m doing the Steve Kerr right now. I’m putting, you know, Hey, but you know, people don’t I think people forget how good Clyde was, man. The port now he he took a kind of a backseat role when he got to Houston. But but but Portland Clyde Port Glide I remember hell I remember when he was dunking on everybody at Five Slammer Jama at the University of Houston. Yeah. Yeah. But he used to Clyde used to elevate. Yeah. You know, and the only reason I didn’t put Tim in there is because I remember, you know, I’m watching the Hall of Fame ceremony and I’m watch Rudy T get inducted and then when Rudy T gave me a shout out for the Hall of Fame and they pan through the crowd and Tim didn’t clap. So that’s why he ain’t on my rush. Hey, cuz I Hey, I I started call said, “Motherfucker, I saved your ass in 2005. Excuse my life. You going You better get your ass up and clap. Missing that damn leg up now. I had to take over. Spurs got some cap space. They got they got a night. Hey, they got Stefan Castle who was rookie of the year. Wimby was a previous rookie of the year. They got Do they Would you make the move for Giannis? Would you try to package some pieces for Giannis? That’s the thing. You got No, you forgot about Darren Fox. you you I think that’s that’s hard to say. I would because you can’t pass on I think that’s going to be the hottest commodity this summer. Everybody’s going to want the Greek Creek because he’s that type of player. You know, I mentioned him earlier how hard he play. So, this is going to be really interesting to see where he goes if Milwaukee even want to give him up. But, um if I’m the if I’m the Spurs, we got the C space. Why not go after him? because you know he’ll love it there because he got a good one thing about the Spurs franchise is it’s a good franchise. They’re very humble franchise and you don’t have to worry about a lot of outside noise. You think about in LA and you know Chicago, New York, there’s a lot of outside noise. So you being in Milwaukee are used to the outside noise being at a minimum. So if you go to the Spurs, you’re in the same thing. So I don’t know if he wants that. I don’t know if he wants, you know, be more, you know, can’t get no more notable than you already as Greek Freak, but does he want a bigger market? That’s where it boils down. If he wants that market, it boils down to a bigger market. Um, I haven’t talked to Greek Freak, but I talked to the powers at B. Uh, we’re going to do everything we can to get him down here in Miami. Um, I’ I’ve told I’ve told that already. I’m not sure why he continues to ask that question. Um, hey Rob, I’ve sat down with with Mickey Eric. I sat down with Pat Riley. Pat is is willing to change some of his ways and and let the reigns go a little bit on the way he conducts himself and to come to to uh the entity that is known as the Miami Heat. So, uh and we also gonna get John Morant, too. So, you don’t want that, dog. I’m just tell I’m telling you ahead of time. Hey, you know, he would fit in great in Miami, but you gonna have to give up, you know, a lot to get into Miami. That’s fine. That’s that’s fine. Listen, we want to get But hey, you But then but here’s though. If you give up stuff, you’re going to be right where the Phoenix Suns are. You give up all that. You got three guys making 150 million, but your bench sucks. Listen, same thing happened when when Carmelo left the Nuggets. He went to the Knicks, but all he wanted to play with, they ended up going to going to Denver. And then you had to trade those draft picks. So now you there, you basically by yourself like you were when you were in uh in Denver. We going we going to make we going to make it work. We going to make The Lakers were bounced in five by the Wolves. Injury news has been creeping out. First, an MRI revealed that LeBron James suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee in the fourth quarter of game five. The injury entails a 3 to 5 week recommended recovery timeline. Then it was reported that Aster Reeds was dealing with a left big toe sprain during the playoffs. Was considered a two to four week injury, but he gutted it out. Reeds was reportedly not walking on it on days off to try to get through the playoffs. Uh, you know, the internet is reacting because it seems like every time a LeBron lose, they say, “See, this is why he lost.” Rob, you close to this situation. What? What’s What? Uhhuh. I told Lo when they did, I said, “They need a big.” I said, “They only going to go so far.” I said, “Because if Jackson Hayes don’t give you quality minutes, now you going to put him out and you ain’t got nobody else to put in there as a big, you got LeBron or Ruie playing the four, the four and the five. That’s too small.” Way, way too small. That’s why you have to give Jackson Hayes a chance in that series. And and it was weird when when when LeBron hit that guy. And I know everybody always want to say LeBron had antics. I watched his knee bend. And that’s how I strained my MCL and was out just six weeks. And you know, LeBron is he’s a he’s a alien when it comes to that. He doesn’t get hurt. And so people want to talk about that, but you know, but that team is just too small. You think about all the teams you could have played, you got to hold to the wrong one. And and Minnesota, you think about they they’re just long, they’re athletic, they’re tough, and then they pissed off. They pissed off at Luca because he bounced them last year. And so the one thing that coaches do, they learn. If you watch how the the Minnesota Timber was coach Luca, they was like, “No, don’t switch.” We did that mistake last year, put Go Baron, and hits the three. So we didn’t switch this season. And that’s one of the things that, you know, they learned that from Boston, too, because that’s how Boston was able to, you know, beat beat the Dallas Mars because, you know, we’re not Sweet. We keep our best defender. And I talked about that earlier how lazy guys are now, man. It’s not even They don’t even try to fight over the screen now. They just pass it off. Yeah. They don’t even It’s like why? It’s like you’re a better defender. And now and I look at JJ, I’m like in game in game four, I’m like Ant-Man out there cooking you and you your best defender is on the freaking bench in Vando. Give him a chance. At least he got four, five, six fouls. You gonna go to the hole. You gonna get up off the floor. And so that’s what I was looking at JJ like, dude, what are you doing? I’m I’m not even mad at JJ. I’m mad at Nate and I’m mad at Scotty because you two head coaches are sat right over there and let him do this dumb stuff because you can think it’s a reason that that’s the first time it was ever done in the playoffs. Yeah, they playing but I knew I knew they was in trouble. You you can’t I mean you asking and I don’t care how great you are and Oo and I we debated this like man you got to get it done. I said yeah the mind is willing but the body just ain’t able. The man had just played 41 minutes a couple of nights before. Now you running back 46 on 40 year old legs and then you put 40 4 minutes on him in game five. Yeah. Yeah. And you know and what people forget is he’s played more playoff games than everybody. So that’s equivalent to like I think four seasons. Damn. So you got to add four seasons onto the 20 seasons that he’s played technically. You mean? Yeah. Yeah. So you got to think of that’s So that’s why you got to find a way. You got Gabe Vincent over there who’s got NBA Finals experience. Give him some burn. You know, I think the biggest mistake that the Lakers made all season was not trying to figure out how to implement Dalton Connect into this system. You know, you think about him, that’s that’s a flamethrower over there. You got to give him a chance. You know, you got you think about it. You got you talk about scoring, but then you put Vando in there. Who’s the better shooter? Dton Connect. Vano a Vando ain’t even looking at the rim unless it’s a layup or a wide open dunk. But I think the thing is what JJ Gat said about don’t connect because he don’t he he his defensive assignments he out there like a blind dog in a me house. Do I show? Do I hedge? But hey, isn’t Luca and isn’t AR? And but but that’s the thing. See, that’s the problem with the Lakers. You get Luca getting beat off the first dribble 90% of the time. AR getting beat off the second dribble. LeBron can’t sit in the chair at 40 anymore. So now you got three guys that are really s I mean LeBron will try to body you. I mean yeah he gonna chase it down. He gonna make some he gonna make some great defensive plays but when you got Luca and AR and you don’t have no I mean when you had AD you had some help now you don’t have AD. So now, yeah. And Jackson Hayes, I mean, sometimes, hey, he he’s a good lob threat. He’ll get it off the rim, you know, get a rebound and put it back. But for the most part, he’s not you’re not counting on him to give you much anyway. Hey, if we can get if we can steal 15, 20 minutes from him, Rob, we good. We Hey, we had Hey, that’s all we wanted. You know, you know, you think about that’s all you need because people don’t realize that the reason the Mavericks were so good last year is because those two bigs they had, they was erasing all of Luca’s mistakes, erasing everybody. Yeah. It’s like you go to the rack, okay, you got them guys blocking shots and you know it’s And so people forget how important certain bigs are to the team because they can erase like what AD did. AD saved him so many times. And I think about when they played Denver last year, you expect AD to do everything. I’m like, dude, he can’t guard some guys on the perimeter, you know? And so you think about Murray. Murray like, okay, I’m a really good shooter. I’m going to separate from AD. Yeah, let AD keep the defender on him. Let AD erase mistake when he get to the hole. And so it’s so many little things like that. And the reason that I would never want to coach or be an assistant coach because I’m like, “Dude, I’m looking at my arrogance be like, look, I done played with three of the best centers in the world. I done won seven championships. You’re going to freaking tell me. I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about. You go.” So I I I don’t been in every situation. There’s a reason that I’ve won seven championship. There’s a reason that Dream respects me, Shaq respects me, Tim respects me, because I wasn’t afraid to yell at them and tell them what to do and put them in the right place, in the right frame of mind. And when you got guys that are like that, you gonna be good, man. That’s what I like about the Celtics. And that’s what I like about the Cavs this year. That’s who I got winning all the Cavs. I know y’all didn’t ask me that, but I just threw that out there. You got Hold on. You got the Cavs. You got the Cavs to come out of the East. I got the Cavs. I got the Cavs winning at all, man. I don’t know about that, Rob. Yeah, cuz they they ain’t beat No, they ain’t beat none of the top teams. They lost to Boston. I think they beat Boston once, but I think they lost They beat Boston once. They lost to They lost to OKC, I think, both times. Yep. But I’m not worried about that. You know why? Because playoffs is a different thing. They got they’re going to be able to focus on a team. And in the playoffs, you think about the OKC. OKC gets a lot of their points high. When Shay Gilders gets to the free throw line, you don’t get those free throws because you get the best refs. So they don’t give you that BS that you got called to go to the free throw line, shoot 12, 15 free throws. So I I think I think Cleveland this year because of the way they were playing and those two bigs back there Allen and they they’re prime for it man. But if you look at Boston can play two bigs with Pzingus and Al Horford. You look at OKC you mentioned it. They can play two bigs with Hardenstein and Chad Hungry. It see can play two bigs with Shingun and and Adams. Who knew? Who knew that was possible? Yeah. But I just think I think though, you know, when you look at the totality of the thing and the way [ __ ] Spider’s playing now, yeah, Spider really realizes that I need my teammates and he doesn’t try to just do it all on his own like a MJ, like a Kobe did, you know, at times. So, he’s relying on his team. I just think it’s just and I really like the way Moi is playing right now. He’s killing it, man. JJ Reick said the Lakers have to get in championship shape. There are individuals that were phenomenal that that were in phenomenal shape. There are certainly ones that could have been in better shape. We’ve got to get in championship shape. Rob, are you a fan of JJ publicly taking shot? Because we know who he talking about. Hey, first of all, what does JJ know about championship shape? Has he ever won a championship? He ain’t won no title. That’s I I just want to know what is championship shape. That’s all I’m asking. You know, I’m Do you know what championship shape is? Because for me, when you talk about championship shape, that means you’ve been there, done that. And you talk about championship shape, that [ __ ] starts in the summertime, then it goes into training camp, and then that goes through in the season. If you want someone in championship shape, you don’t take the last three games off because you say, “Okay, I’mma get some rest. You use those games to get in shape.” And so for me, I don’t know why he said that because you already think about Luke already in a point where he’s all mentally all screwed up because the way Dallas got rid of him, right? And he got to sign an extension. He might take that as a shot as him. He out. So you I don’t know what he why he said that. You know, it’s just the weirdest thing to me. I think the thing but but I can it seems to me now you you like I said, Rob, you know basketball bodies and you know you you you you’ve been there. But it seems to me every year Luca wears down and he’s limping more and more in the playoffs. We saw that this year. We saw that last year and against some of the teams they was wondering, well, is Luca going to play? And we saw him in Boston. It seems like every year his body wears down once he gets to the playoffs. Yeah. But you know what? You know, when you think about when Luca first got to the Lakers, how they were humming. And you know what the difference was? Luca wasn’t handling the ball as much. You know, if you think about the last, let’s just start with the series here. He wanted the ball every time to bring it up. And you when you got tough defenders like Minnesota, that’s going to wear you down. Yeah. And so you got AR, you got LeBron, you even got Gabe Vincent to bring it up. Go stand your ass in the corner. And so take a break. And for me, I look at where he didn’t know the plays and he was trying to get familiar. They looked so damn good because AR come down. LeBron had come down. He’ll come down and they was moving the basketball. It was cutting. They was just playing basketball. He didn’t plan playing instinctively. But then now he comes down where he goes to that that slow thing. He goes to to the mid, go to the high post and just it just was bad basketball. Clock out. Yeah. So, and it’s it gets to a point where you think about all the energy LeBron had because he wasn’t bringing the ball up. So, sometimes you have to get off the ball and and I don’t think Luca can do that because that’s the only way he knows how to play. And that’s You see, you took the words right out of my mouth. You see, it’s easy because LeBron can play off the ball. You put him in the dunker spot, you put him in, you put him in the high post, you can throw it to him, he can find somebody. Luca needs the ball. Luca can’t play. Luca can’t, his game hasn’t evolved yet to where he can play off the ball like LeBron can. And I and I think this is what’s going to cause LeBron to play another two more years, three more years because he’s off the ball and he doesn’t have that burden of bringing it up, having to run the set, get everybody else involved. Now he’s like, “Hey, y’all got Luca. Let me let let me shoot some spot up threes. Put me in that dunker spot so I can get baseline and and and lay it up or dunk it.” Hey, you know what I like to see him? I like to see him just take him to the post because he got so many post up moves he can you because it’s about moving quick. I even put him in an elbow situation, you know, run some type of pinch post and let him go to work. That’s one, two dribbles to the hole you dunking on people, you know? It’s it’s it’s efficiency of movement to me. When you get to a certain age, do I need to take three steps, four steps, or five steps to be efficient? No, I’m taking three because that mean I can save two from later on. And for me, that’s what he has to learn how to do. Like just go to the post. You think about how long Tim Duncan play, you know, he’s a different type of player, but LeBron has the ability just I’m just take you to the post. I’mma jump hook you. I’mma do my little fade away and that’s all he has to do. He gonna still average about 24 25 points like that cuz he’s that much better than everybody else. How many more years you think LeBron is realistically going to play cuz he said this every year they get out the playoffs like I don’t know how much long I got. And then he’s like, hey, he seems to be like a guy he’s going to ride the train till the wheel falls off. Yeah. You know, the funny thing about LeBron is he he he he is such a big kid. When you young in heart and young in mind like that, you can you can play a couple more years. I think when I hit my 16th season, I feel like a old fart. I didn’t want to do it no more. Mentally, I was strong. I was I was done. And so for him, you think about how much you you look when you watch him warm up. I think every time I watch him warm up, he’s smiling. He’s dancing every damn night. And for me, I had nights where I’m like, “Dude, I don’t even want to be out here right now cuz I’m hurt.” But he still has that love, that joy, that energy. And you know, I think he probably gonna play like maybe three more years. Wait. He gonna wait to see what Bryce gonna do. He was the first guy to play with two two of his sons in the NBA. So you see what he defin look like he gonna set that record out there. Ain’t nobody gonna break it. Yeah. You know, it’s it’s weird. And nobody’s going to break those records, man. You know, the only person can break a record like that is someone who coming straight out of high school maybe scoring. You think like the way Lucas scores, but he ain’t gonna make it that damn long. U you think about um who else? KD is not gonna make it that much longer. So, nobody’s ever g the These records going to be they’re going to be out of this world. Oo, you think uh JJ should have taken a shot at uh uh Luca publicly? I mean, I’m not sure if it was directed at Luca. I think something like that should be kept in house. If there is Who you thought it was directed at? But listen, especially something like that knowing that you want L. But I but me and Rob want to know who you think it was directed at. It wasn’t directed at Exactly. Yeah. I mean you you you right about that. But listen, something like that you going to keep in house. You hear me? You hear me? You you the future other Lakers and had a head coach really taking a shot at you publicly when you could have kept that in house and just talk I mean he could he talk he could have talked about something else but I think he wanted to send a message. He wanted to send a message and that’s the way he felt he wanted to send it. Yeah. I I think it’s going to bite you in the butt. It’s got to be you see what happened and they were talking about that Nico look we everybody fought Nico but that was a Nico call that was a ownership call cuz Nico that ain’t Nico’s money 345 was not one penny was coming out of Nico’s pocket they made that call and Nico obliged him and moved it and got you know could they have gotten a bigger package yeah but they didn’t want it to get out because you start calling around teams and that get out Oh boy. Yeah, it’s gonna get back to I tell you what, listen. If JJ Reic and anyone else in the Lakers organization, you know, Miss Bus, uh, Brother Pelinka, if y’all got a problem with with Luca not being in shape now, listen, we got we some we got some good gyms down here in Miami, we we’ll get him together. We We together in Miami now. So, think about that. Luca, Giannis, and John Mar. We can take all we can take all of them. We’ll have it like like you got three ball you got three ball dominant guys. That ain’t working. Hey, you know I I trade Luca for Hero and and and Bam. Give me number two. I’ll give you Luca. Okay. Okay. We’ll work with that because now I got me a big and I got me a shooter. But you gonna keep AR cuz AR and and hero basically the same guys. Well, that’s that’s true. But the thing about AR is you can use him for get him get you something else. You can put him out there for something But I but I I I what I love about AR is that how he’s grown. He’s gotten better every single year. And if I didn’t tell you, if you didn’t know, you would never know he was an undrafted free agent. That’s so true. You know, the thing I like about AR is he’s he learns from his mistakes. And I and the one thing that I think he going to sit back and know now that I know that his toe was hurt that he wasn’t aggressive enough for me when AR is going downhill. He’s such a good player. But when he’s trying to think he’s shifty with the rock and gets caught up and lose it, that’s not that’s not the AR I want to see. I I think when you think about how many times when he gets you, he just makes a direct line to the basket, pump fakes, you get your gets to and one. Like I don’t even think he went to the free throw line the last two games because he wasn’t trying to get to the rack. And I don’t know it’s because it had a lot to do with Minnesota’s defense because they’re bigger and stronger. You watch how Ant-Man was just bullying him up the top, not letting him get to his his his position. So for me, he’s going to have to learn how to just keep it simple. What I mean by that is I’m just going to take one, two dribbles, pull up. I ain’t always got to get to the rack. You know, I got to fake you pump fakey this and go this way. And and it’s about like I said, efficient move because if you really think about AR, he’s crafty, but he’s not quick with it. He’s kind of like Luca. He’s just kind of slow with it. He can get off because the defense is moving faster than you are. So that’s how you able to get those fouls. Yeah. I They’re just trying to They’re trying to send a message anywhere you can. If I’m Luca, I’m going to get with LeBron and say, “Bro, what you do? What you do?” Uh cuz I look I and I was talking like I know they got argue argue with you and say what you do at your age. I would tell about say you know what I know they got Slovenian food that’s that’s nutritious but see the problem is he ain’t in Slovenia. You know you come to America and you try to eat native food. We done added something to it and get you have you bigger than over here. Yeah. Cuz you go back and look at Luca his first couple years when he got to the NBA and look how skinny he is. And look a lot a lot of those European players they they they don’t have the bodies like American players. They’re not going to have the caps on their shoulders and the definition. Look at Jokic. Look at look at Luca. Look at Manu Shiru. Look at Porzingis. That’s not how they’re built, right? So, but if you go back and look at Jokic when he first got the league and how he looked now, you could tell he put time in. He said, “Man, I’m tired. Hey, I ain’t going to be no flat fast slob. Y’all ain’t going to be talking about me.” And now, yeah, three MVPs and two runups later. The guy’s one of the great one of the historically great players of all time. That’s because he made he made a a concerted effort to get his butt in the gym, to watch his nutrition, to work, and to become what he became. But I just think Luke just wears down cuz last year he had that same problem. You know, he was dealing with a knee and the year before that he had some issues going on. I just think, you know, and it’s hard because the guy’s giving you 28 and 8 and eight, but bro, I need you 100% for the playoff, too, or it’s close to it. And I don’t think he’s nearly close to that. Uh especially la especially this series here cuz he moved like a old man. Hey, but the thing about it he did lose weight compared to when we first got on the Lakers. So he he lost about 10 lbs. So 20 pounds. So we got we got he’s going in the right direction. Yeah. We got to go we got to go to the right direction. I’m s I’m surprised given that knowing um a lot of people say Luca, you know, uh hookah Luca and you know, he drinking beer and he party and he doesn’t take it serious. It’s hard for me to say that he doesn’t take it serious. But do I think his conditioning could be better? Yes, absolutely. But I think he takes the game serious. You don’t get to be this kind of this good by not taking the game serious. But I do think his conditioning and his nutrition can be more on point. Yeah. I I think for me when I watch Luca, you know, you I think he should do a lot of agility work in the summertime, working on his footwork, working on his flexibility because a lot of his injuries are coming from just, you know, not being you can tell he’s not a flexible guy. You know, he needs to do yoga or Pilates or something all summer. And because when you watch him move sometimes, he stays in front of people and he’s so big body that they bounce off him. He just doesn’t do it all the time. If he works on his footwork, he works on his speed and agility, you know, he can become a decent defender because he can do it. He just don’t want to. And the thing is, he’s so good on the other end. Uh uh Bob, that’s the problem. He’s so great offensively. They’re like, “Ah, we let somebody else.” Hey, we’ll do four on five. Y’all handle that. But don’t even worry about it, Luca. Because we see he get the man gave you a 6020 triple double. He can give you a 40oint triple double 50 point triple double. like it’s nothing. But uh yeah, I I was surprised. But let me ask you this. Do you think Nico do you think Dallas was right about Luca but was wrong for the trade? I you know what it’s it’s right about Luca be have one of those questions you have to deep dive into the franchise and get to know Luca and how his stuff you know I always said when he came into the season he was always came in fluffy and he never came in shape and that’s one of the things that you can tell like when your back start hurting you know even you go a couple years remember AJ start the season off his back was hurting because he was fluffy he wasn’t in shape and then he got then he got in shape and he played whatever the number game it’s about what you do in off seasonason. It’s about what you’re doing conditioning wise and being prepared for the the grind of the the the regular season. And I think with Nico, I I agree when you said it wasn’t his call because I just think when Nico messed up when he the one line he messed up says I didn’t know how important man he Luca was. That’s other than that you should have just says yo man I know you can’t throw the owners under the bus and be like yo I think I’m doing what I’m told to do. I I work for someone just like a lot of you guys do but I I understand where he was coming from because if you if you really look at that team and you look at what they had with the addition of AD, I thought they had a position to do something scary because Kyrie, we forget how good Kyrie is. We PJ Washington and then Gafford, you know, you got Yes. Yeah. But it was just it just, you know, bad time. But I also think with me, you know, I love AD is one of my favorite players of all time. But I think AD moving to the four making him soft. And what I mean by that is I’m not saying physically me because it’s making him not be aggressive. You watch him in the last couple games and playing game. All he did want to shoot threes and that dude and you’re so effective. Think about when he was in New Orleans, they gave him the pinch post. He was doing spinning, dunking on people, shooting threes, setting you up. But once he said he wanted to be I know he had boogie boogie with him, but it was like he didn’t play the same way. He didn’t shoot a lot of threes. And so for me, it’s making him soft in the sense that I’m I’m going to I’m going to settle. When I say soft, I mean settle instead of like being aggressive, going to the rack trying to get to the free throw line. Yeah. Yeah. I look because Luca is so great because uh he was so beloved. I mean, they drafted the kid. He was 18 when he got there. I don’t know. It’s hard for me to believe, Nico. You was a go a marketing guy for Nike. You understand who does what and who moves the needle. Ain’t nobody had to tell you that. You know exactly. You know what Shay means to OKC. You know what Jason Tatum means to uh uh Boston. You know what Jaylen Brunson means to the Knicks. And you talk about and and and and and Jaylen Brunson got traded to the Knicks. Shay got traded to OKC. So you talk about a homegrown Kobe homegrown. Yeah. Trade LeBron. Trey Lebron at 25. You can look across the hallway at what Dirk meant to that team. So I I agree with you. I agree with you, Bob. I I don’t know about that. I just say, “Yay. Hey guys, we going to move it. We going to move it on. I mean, Luca’s not here anymore. We got Anthony Davis. We going to add some more pieces.” Kyrie got hurt. That’s what really made it look bad. Kyrie got hurt. Yeah. So, hey, we get Kyrie. They probably gonna try to make a run for KD cuz KD probably going to be up out of Phoenix. And now we might be having a different story. On August the 2nd, the Lakers can offer Luca a 4-year $229 million extension. Or Luca could opt to sign a three-year 165 extension with a player option in 2028, which would then allow him to sign a max deal in 2028 that gave him 35% of the salary cap for the next five seasons. What you doing, Rob? You taking the four years at 229, three years at 165 with a player option and then at 28. Let me go and get that 400. Hey, I’m taking the four years. You want that, buddy? You want that guarantee? You want that guaranteed money, huh? I want that guaranteed money now and deal with it then, you know. Hey, but think about it. So many guys, you at this day and age, you take the four years, hey, I want to renegotiate my contract. Oh, I want to be traded. You know, there’s so many things you can do. So, I’m taking the four years because I’m a I don’t I don’t want to I don’t want to trust my body. You think about how many injuries he’s gotten. I had to have to go with the money now because you see it what happened to him. You see what happened to um so many guys who bet on themselves and they fell on them. So, I’m I’m taking the money. I like it. What you doing though, Joe? you taking the money or you going to play play sign three years with a with a with an option and then go to the table say let me let me get that five let me get that five for uh you got five for uh 400 in there for me I mean well I’m I’m going to take that three cuz I if I’m I’m betting on my body and I’m only betting on my body because I ain’t never been hurt so probably I’m I’mma play another three seasons not get hurt and go back to the table and hit him across the head that’s just me but understanding Luca and his injury history and um it seemed not I mean, no disrespect in any way. It seemed like his body continue to deteriorate, especially towards the end of the season. I’m expecting something like that to continue to happen because as you get older, it don’t get better. No, it don’t get better. So, you know, if if I if I unless you LeBron. Yeah. Yeah. There you go. Well, listen, what Luca can do, what Luca can do is he could take that three if he if he adapts and does everything LeBron does when it comes to taking care of your body. Now, then you could take that three and bet on yourself. But what are the chance of him actually doing everything LeBron does when it comes to taking your body and preparing yourself in the offseason? But you know, it’s I would I was we always say that you need to get with LeBron, but you know, it’s we got to also think that, you know, LeBron got great genetics, man. That too. You know, we can just say, “Oh, you get what LeBron do.” That’s like we we all of us can go in the gym and shoot a thousand jumpers. You know, a gonna be a whole week. Exactly. Gonna come out here shooting like Steph Curry. He come and shoot 10 a day and still gonna be better than us. It’s just, you know, just sometimes, you know, the man above, God gives you talents. God gives you the genetics. And so, you can tell Luca to do all that, but if the body don’t act right, the body don’t act right. LeBron says, “It ain’t my job to worry about Luca’s future with the Lakers.” LeBron told ESPN, “Nope, that ain’t my job. I don’t think I don’t think I know I uh I know Luca knows how he feels about I feel about him, and ultimately the trade happened for the future. That’s not for me. Luca has to decide what he has to do with his future. He’s 26 years old. I’m 40. So, he can’t be basing on his career off me. That’s just real. But I hope obviously he stays longterm. Laker fans effing love him here. LA has accepted him. We love him as a teammate, as a brother. But ultimately, he’s got to make a decision for him. Is uh I ain’t going I ain’t going around be I ain’t going to be around much longer. Brian gonna be down there another two, three year. Watch. Yeah. Watch. And you think about this, LeBron at, you know, at 60%, even 30% is probably better than half the league. That’s how good he is. And I I think, you know, I think Luca, the things he’s doing around the city so far, you know, think about what just happened with the the facing of the Kobe Mural. He donating the money. You know, I think he’s trying to do exactly what he did in Dallas and let him know that he wants to be a part of the community and do as much that he can say, “Hey, I know you guys are paying me a [ __ ] ton of money. I’m just going to be here for you guys and try to give back the best way I can.” So, I I I feel like Luca, unless you know the Joker said, “Hey, let’s play together.” He he’ll be he’ll be in a Laker uniform. I like it. I think the Joker is the only person that probably could get him to say, “Come on, let’s go play together.” Yeah. Per the Athletic, people close to LeBron aren’t ruling out the possibility of him finish his career elsewhere. Braun back to the land. If the care if the Cavaliers don’t make the Eastern Conference Finals, we see LeBron coming home one last time. One time. One more time to finish his career. No, I don’t see it. No, he love everything about LA. Savannah loves everything about LA. and his his daughter was in dance class here. She got everything going on that way. He you know he’s really I think he’s realizing the importance of you know his kids and the the direction they’re going and how much they enjoying. He ain’t he ain’t going back to Cleveland. No, he might go there and sign and say he require a play. Yeah, that one day contract. Yeah, but I don’t I don’t believe he go I don’t believe he goes back. Nah, go back and do what? You playing with Luca? you playing with Luca and go back and and and sit on he gonna have to come off the bench. I’m like because that that starting five be like, “Yo, man, we just want a chip. You ain’t moving us out the way.” Yeah, I I I I agree. I agree with you. I I don’t see I don’t see him growing back. I mean, they they they keep saying that, but I think LeBron really loves the Lakers. I really think he loves living in LA. I think he loves all things LA. The weather is nice year round. He don’t really have to have an overcoat. You know, you can have a top down there year round. You got water, you got beaches. I mean, everything his businesses are in LA. Uh there’s really nothing for him not to like about LA. And he’s making a lot of um uh movies, right? And he’s doing a lot of that stuff, too. Yeah. Yeah. All that’s going on. So, he he’s in the perfect place, you know, and he’s playing with the lady. Even if he does go, I mean, I mean, Shaq is really the only one I can remember that came here and left. Kareem didn’t leave. Wilt didn’t leave. Kobe didn’t leave. Yeah. Magic didn’t leave. Normally normally when you get these Shaq didn’t want to leave. He was just forced out. Who that? Shaq didn’t want to leave. He was just Shaq wanted your money. Yeah. Hey, when I was in the Lakers, I didn’t want to leave either. But I was forced out. Some don’t want to leave the Lakers, man. Yeah. But yeah, I I I I agree. I I think and plus, you know, the kids are here. I mean, it’s a short trip for him to go over to shoot over to Arizona to see Bryce. Uh to go way back to Cleveland, um Zuri, the his youngest daughter, his only daughter, the youngest is in in school here to uproot her and leave her friends. I think Savannah has like carved out her own niche here uh uh in LA. Yeah. I I just don’t see it. I I know it sound good. I mean, hey, you know, those close to LeBron oo. I just don’t see it though. Yeah. You ain’t going nowhere. What you thinking? He’d be right he’ll be right here for a minute. He ain’t going nowhere. I mean, I I honestly I know he kept his place in Ohio and he can always jet back, but I think I think California is going to be his home base. I think Cali is where he’s going to reside. When it’s all said and done, LeBron James will be a California. He’s not a native. Obviously, he grew up in Akran, Ohio, and he played a lot of years in Cleveland. But think about it. He’s he’s going to almost double up the amount of time that he played in Miami here in LA. Yeah, most definitely. I think also it’s I think there’s too many moving parts. There’s too many moving parts in LA for him to be a for him to go back to Akran. Obviously having a place there being that that’s where you grew up, he will still always have ties there. But as far as from a business standpoint and everything he has going on, I I’ I’d assume it would make more sense obviously to stay here in LA. Yeah. Bigger market. Yeah. I mean, but you know, he he’s the type of guy that he don’t really the he is the market. So, so he he but hey, it’s a lot more connections out here than it is in you. Absolutely because there’s nothing that there’s nothing that in LA you can’t do in LA. I mean, hey, pick up a phone. I don’t think he wants to go back to that cold. I don’t think Savannah wants to go back to the cold. Uh uh I mean once you once you get used to that warm weather it’s hard for you to go back and if you live in Florida, if you live in LA, if you live in some warm weather and say, you know, yeah, I think I want to go live in New York. I want to live in Philly. I want to live in Massach Once the once them old bones get used to that warm weather, I’m here for the long. I think once you step out there and that cold just hits you in the face one time, it’s like, nah, I’m good. Yeah, I’m good. Yeah, but I don’t I don’t see him go I don’t see him going back there either. SGL on if being traded by the Clippers were on his mind if LA advances and play the Thunder. They did motivate me a long time ago. I haven’t thought about them in years though. I can’t hold I guess you can say grudges forever in life. What you think? When you got traded, did you hold a grudge against anybody when you got traded? Uh, no, because I knew it was just business and I was mad at the rocks when they traded me to terrible ass Phoenix. But other than that, hey, I was excited as hell with Phoenix trading me to the Lakers. So, it was, you know, that was that was great for me, but I don’t I don’t I I think when you you look at I think he got tra getting traded to OKC was a better situation because it wasn’t he wasn’t going to be the the head of the snake. No, that was going to be so he was never going to be able to flourish. Yeah. So he he put him in the perfect position. He got those picks and he got guys that that came in that was like a you know similar attitude sim similar the way he is and he’s been able to flourish because sometimes you guys can be great players but they they getting held back by having to play behind this player or that player. So that was perfect for him and he was able to show everybody like oh and everybody sitting back like damn clips [ __ ] up but you got to think about it was for Paul George and Paul George at the time was the man. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. What you gonna say, Oo? No, I was gonna say I like I say even I mean even if he was there with Kawhai, you saying SJ wouldn’t be a wouldn’t be able to be who he was just because he’s paired with Kawhai. Yeah. He got to be the guy. You see what happened? You see what they did? They got him and then they built around him. They were looking to build around Kawhai. He needs the ball. Yeah. Yeah. Because you if you watch SGA, he he he he has a lot of guys on his team that love him and they know what they exactly to do and they sit back and let him work. You know, if you think about Kawhai, Kawhi is a guy, you know, even though you got James Harden over there, you don’t never know what you gonna get out of James because sometimes James want to shoot, some games he doesn’t, but at the end of the day it’s Kawhai. And I I think also that’s why Paul George never really looked that good as a Clipper. He did. was a pacer because he was, you know, deferring to Kawhai and and and you know, we forget sometimes Kawhai is one of the best players in this game when he’s healthy. And so it’s hard not to defer to Kawhai. It is. And you know, Kawhai Kawhi got there. And here’s the thing. Kawhi says, “If you don’t trade for Paul George, I’m going to the Lakers.” The last thing the Clippers could have, you can’t have Anthony Davis, LeBron James, and Kawhi Leonard on one team in that building while you’re in the basement. So they had no choice. So you do that and then you watch him and you’re like, “Well, damn, what could have been?” But I don’t know. I don’t know if SGA would have developed into the player that he’s become now had he been had he been there. See, he got an opportunity because the thing was is that you remember um Rob Chris Paul was there. Yep. So he got an opportunity to learn how to play the position from the point guard. and he took off and he hadn’t looked back and now he’s you know you can make a case he’s top one top what best point guard in the league he and Luca he and Luca battle out him Luca and Steph but it’s hard to say you going to say there’s another point guard that’s better than those three whoever’s won it’s out of that it’s out of those three right yeah unless you want unless you consider Steph a point Steph Luca and uh Shane yeah I mean I look at Steph more as two me personally I look at Steph and James Harden two guard two that you know that can that can pass but there that I guess because I you grew we we grew up in the era where the point guard was Magic Johnson the point guard was Isaiah Thomas to you know guys like that that were true point guard they weren’t trying to go get 30 40 or 50 these point guards today they tried to light you up for 40 or 50 they there’s like no um you you play I will give you the ball when I can’t Shoot and you just be ready for me to kick it to you. That’s one thing I I I only had a chance to play with Jason Kid for two games while I was in Phoenix. Damn. And I’m I You have no coffee. I know. Hey, he he had just got traded us and and and the weird part is I look at my career, high school, college, I never played with a true point guard for that one moment. You should have seen me, man. I was hitting the lanes, getting lefts, looking up. The ball was right where I wanted to catch it, man. I was like, and it goes to show you if you got a point guard, he’s going to make it easy so much better, man. Jay K, man, I was there two games, man. I probably could have been Well, then what happened? You should You should have behaved your damn self and kept that towel around your neck. Hey, hey, I’ll be only having two rings instead of seven then. Hey, you knew you knew it damn well how to get up out of Phoenix, didn’t you? Oh yeah. You know what the weird part was? You know, Danny Ames became the coach. You know, Danny A, I didn’t like him from the moment I got a chance. No, you know, we had just finished a tough series against Phoenix. You remember the inbound play when he rares back and hits Mario in the face with the ball point. You know, Mario, my boy, me and Mario close. And then me we walking down we get to Phoenix we walking down the hall and Danny A says to Sam Cassell and I like you know I hit Mario on the face with the ball on purpose right he act like it was a mistake I’m like man [ __ ] you from that moment on I never liked him and he was just an assistant coach then and then um when Cotton stepped down he became the head coach and from that moment on he was like he was like he didn’t start me when we went back to Houston he didn’t play me and then we traded away Michael Finley and AC Green and said you going to get more minutes. My minutes went down. And so I was hot, man. I was like, cuz I was in, we was in Boston. I had just made a three. Got a dunk, got a steal. And I looked over, he subbed me in the first three minutes of the game. I was, man, [ __ ] I was hot, man. So I was hot. So hey, they were going to release me and I was going to go back to Houston. I’m like, okay, you going to release me? I’m going back to play in Houston. But they cut they they sent me to Lakers and the the rest of that they say history. History. Let me ask you a question. Have you seen Danny Angel? Have you had a conversation with Danny Angel since that moment? No. Last conversation I had with Danny Angel was after he said, “Oh, we we trading you to LA for um Sed and I probably just won you another championship.” That’s what he said to me. That’s the last conversation I had with He did. He won you three. Don’t plan to talk to him. Don’t want to talk to him. Uh oh. Oo. Yo, tonight’s Blockbuster box boxing card was supposed to be the end with an official announcement. Ryan Garcia versus Devin Haney. The rematch October, but Rolando Roly Romero ripped up that script. Upset. Garcia lost in a stunner to Romero early after an early knockdown. Romero claimed the WBA welterweight title with a unanimous decision upset over Garcia at the iconic Time Square in New York. Oo. Yeah. What happened, man? Listen, Ryan Garcia was supposed to win the fight. He done a lot of talking. Obviously, we saw what he did to Devin Haney last time they fought, he dominated Hayne that in that in that fight. Obviously testing for um an illegal substance, whatever it may have been. I think if he wasn’t on the substance, I think he still may have won that fight based on the way he looked. But uh tonight they listen, Ryan Garcia, if you’re a betting man, Ryan Garcia was your favorite to win the fight tonight against Roelly. for listen Brian Garcia landed more punches but Romero getting a knockdown and obviously winning the fight um and getting the decision it to me it was shocking it was shocking to me because Roelly has somewhat of an awkward style of fighting and to me I think Ryan Garcia is the better pure boxer and I thought he would he would probably win tonight especially with that dangerous left hook that he has but it it didn’t go that way it didn’t it didn’t go that way um Roelly had a good fight now I think Roelly now has a chance to actually fight Devin Haney. And I think the rematch against Ryan Garcia is probably out the window because of this because of this loss. Yeah. Garcia. So, I mean, I’m excited. I’m excited. And Devin Haney looked a little different tonight. He looked very cautious after what happened to him when he fought Ryan Garcia. He was very cautious. Uh he won the fight. He was on his bicycle a lot. uh really counter punching and uh throwing punches in spurts and not not being the the the the fighter he should be at this point in his career. Um he won he won the fight. He he didn’t do it in in in the fashion we’d like to see, especially if you’re a boxing fan like myself. So, I really look forward to to um to uh Roie Romero and and Devin Haney getting in the ring. All right, it’s time for our last segment of the evening. It’s time for Q and [Music] A baller shot caller 1999 says question is the real question is can Rob Pelinka build a team around Luca because he was good he was in a good situation in Dallas when he left and Rob has shown he can’t build a team man I said it this once and I’ll say it again if Luca stayed in Dallas we would have back in the finals. We had a great squad this year. You think that’s You think that’s true? Nah, I I I personally don’t think it’s true because I think you you you caught a lightning in the bottle last year and sometimes you think you go you can do a repeat. You know, you think about the way everybody on that team was playing, Kyrie, PJ, you know, the bench was coming out playing exceptional. I don’t think they had the same amount of juice. Uh, I think, you know, you you think about it, if Minnesota doesn’t switch, they go to the finals. You know, that’s that one possession right there. And for me, I just don’t think they had enough. It’s it’s And plus, you look at the West. The West was too damn good. You gonna find someone that’s going to beat you. What’ you think, Oo? Um, listen, Rob talked about it earlier, them getting to the finals because of those bigs down there. any mistakes Luca had, they were always there to to counter that and to to make up for it. I think if the Lakers for in in some kind of way, we talked about it this season, them not having a big hell, get two bigs for that matter that that that can help out in some in some shape way, form or fashion. And I I think the Lakers will be they’ll be all right this upcoming season. Squirly reseller said Jokic says he wants to play with Luca and LeBron. Can’t Rob and JJ make that happen? No. [Laughter] Hey, I don’t know if you if you watch Joker on the bench and you know Mike Malone got fired. It’s a lot of stuff going on. I know they can’t do it, but yo, so I want to know. So which one? So, so is uh uh uh LeBron would have to wave his no trade and then I don’t think Rob is going to trade Luca to Denver cuz Denver damn sure not letting Jokic go cuz Jokic is lying to sign a threeyear $222 million deal. What that mean? Yeah, he ain’t going nowhere. If Joker say if Joker say I don’t want to be here no more. He don’t want to be here no more. Let me ask you a question. Joker say send me to LA. I want to go to LA. You got to remember who run the league? Who run the league? The players. The players. Okay, there there it is. Well, watch watch when he signed that uh the extension this year. Three years of $221 million. Okay, that’ll tell you that he not going to LA. Okay, I got it. And and first and you also have to think about if you’re Denver, what you want up what what do you want off the Lakers team. Yeah, LeBron gonna be you got Jokic for at least another five years. You ain’t gonna have LeBron like that. Yeah. And and it’s a difference if you know the Lakers are OKC and they got about 50 first round picks. They got like what one if that. So they gonna come up with something. And I think what I it’s it’s kind of screwy what the deal is now is you can only like I don’t know the technical terms to it but when you got to match the monies up now it’s not just like five players for one. So it’d be kind of hard to trade him. JW A oo you say uh you won’t face a gorilla with 99 other men but you’ll face a human silver back at Octagon 101. He’s going to do the same thing to you. One punch. I mean, the fact that you the fact that you’re comparing a human being, an actual human being that puts his pants on one leg at a time like I do to a silverback is the problem with society right now. That’s the problem. You see somebody with side, you see somebody with strength, you see somebody that scares you with the naked eye and you get nervous. Come on, man. This me. I’mma beat the [ __ ] out of James Harrison, man. Stop. Stop trying me. That concludes this episode of Night Cap. 1. Robert H when u was on the Lakers n when everybody was saying “ Kobe”, I was saying “ Horry!” U always been my guy, I never liked Kobe because he wanted to be MJ n he did all the MJ moves he was never Kobe to me!!

  2. To not take Tim Duncan for the pf position. Makes me question Robert intelligence. Even if Tim did him wrong 🤦🏾‍♂️

  3. You can really tell ocho been working on his basketball IG, that’s how you know he take his craft serious keep going up

  4. Luka doesn't have the same body genetics as Lebron so how he trains may not work for Luka plus you gotta want to put that work in

  5. Kuminga didn’t sign the contract they offered his value is decreasing Gilbert arenas already said this was gonna happen

  6. Night Cap bringing on some giants to talk about basketball!!! Love it.

    Horry's room is legendary.

  7. I agree with Horry. Lebron should've played more in the post. Draw the double team and kick it out. But every play in the post is tough tho

  8. One thing I will say about Unc is he doesn’t hold grudges. We all heard about Shaq trying to get info on Shannon to expose him & yet here he is still being complimentary as usual

  9. I don’t think JJ consulted his assistants regarding playing the starters the whole 4th quarter. That’s why he was pissed at the question. Someone told the press

  10. tim was dealing with plantar fascitis during that 2005 run that's why he had some bad games in that finals tim was clapping for rob when his name was mentioned during rudy t's speech ridiculous rob expected tim to give him a standing ovation foh 😂 love how he called out that douche redick i wish luka would sign with another team this summer that would be hilarious
