Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown react to Celtics’ Game 1 loss to Knicks

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown react to Celtics’ Game 1 loss to Knicks

Jalen before you guys. Well, as you
guys built that 7555 lead, your offensive rating was
somewhere around. 120. After that, it dropped to about 76, which is kind of
unheard of what happened. After you guys got up to that 20
point lead? I’m not sure. I think we gon take a look at the film tomorrow and see what kind of happened
there. Was there any sort of feeling
that, you know, once you got up to 20, maybe you guys got away from the
things that were working. You guys almost shot. Almost
exclusively three-pointers after that. I’m, you know, you
guys are very high volume, 3 point shooting team but you
never shoot like 85% of your shots from three was there where you guys going
for like a knockout punch? You know was there a feeling on
the floor like of anything like that? To be honest. I’m not sure. I think we gotta to look at it, you know, some of
them feel good. Some of them feel like we may be forced the issue and definitely
our rhythm. In our, our timing was a little bit off. We got a lot of great looks but you know, it may be some truth to that. We
gotta look at the film. Is he kind of weapon in that second
half? Jill. There’s always some level
of shooting variance with threes but it felt like as that
run was going on. You guys are missing some shots.
Maybe usually make and they were coming back and
hitting big shots. How much does momentum play a part in
that both not only for like you guys maybe losing confidence but
more so them gaining the confidence of. Okay we’re
finally back in the sand. Like the ball is rolling. Yeah. Not a definitely have
momentum in the second half. They hit some tough place. Is
some tough shots and you know, being Brunson, you know, in combination, Make
some tough, tough shots down the stretch. We just got to, we
got to look at it be better. And get ready for game, two, what’s the challenge of
combating momentum in those spots just like mentally and on
the court, everything like that. Yeah, and those moments
when other team job momentum, we can just fire up the res, you know, to break up momentum,
got to get to the free-throw line, gets it up and gets to the
basket, maybe get a easy to, you know what I mean? It’s
some Fritos, and then maybe the next three pointer feels a
little bit better. I feel like we just settled in the second half a lot, but we’ll look at it and we’ll make adjustments. Jalen Kingdom. You just take us through the
last like, 15 seconds of overtime there. Joe Pesci, calls a timeout with
three seconds left. Where you at where you expecting a timeout earlier.
There, there were, you kind of just looks like 1000 x would
take us through your kind of thought process as that went down. Yeah, I mean, we we call a
timeout. Maybe it could have been a little sooner, but We had three seconds on the
clock. Plenty enough to get a good. Look at the room, just wasn’t able to get that. So yeah, that was it in the second quarter, you had a
lot of success attacking inside the arc and then in the
second half and overtime. Only took three shots from there.
What was that? The root of that change? Um, I’m not sure I definitely thought I had some
good looks from three that I’m looking forward to in game
two but you know we’ll take a look at it and
we’ll see, I can’t, I don’t know, I don’t know. And then Jrue Holiday had 16
points in his return tonight and really made life difficult
for Brunson at the defensive end. What did you see from him
and his return, Drew good roommate, plays
offensive rebound after offensive rebound. That gave us
a chance to get in the game. He made some big plays down the
stretch to You know, we needed, you know, hit a big three to put us up. Also, you know, score some some some
baskets in the game so Drew Drew out a great return. So, we’re just looking forward
to game two. Obviously it stings. Now, we
feel like we let our home crowd now, but we’ll we’re looking ready. We’re
looking forward to game two. You guys didn’t Trail in any
playoff series last season. How do you personally react to
being down in a series? What how does your team need to
respond to being in this situation that’s uncomfortable
for this group? Even though obviously you guys have done it plenty of
times where you in the past? Yeah, I’m you take a look at it and you learn what you can learn
from it. Obviously, we had a historic, not night of like Miss
three-pointers. Etc. Will take a look and kind
of see what? The energy was, but in reality you almost got to
have a short-term memory. Throw it away. You ready for
game? Two, we don’t have time to let stuff carry over. So, you know, we make adjustments when we come
ready to play on our home floor. Do and what did they do
defensively against you guys? What did you see from their
defense? That may be caused you to shoot some of
those? And how does that compare to the last series? And
maybe the way they Orlando guard, you Orlando come to, you know, took
the 2.1 away, it felt like tonight they were
kind of daringness to shoot like they wanted us to shoot
those shots and we didn’t make them tonight. But
I feel like we had a ton of good looks, you know, some maybe we forced
up and we settled for sure, and we’ll look at those Those and be
better at those, but, you know, that’s abnormal game for us in terms of shooting
the basketball and all our guys. We trust, we
got great Shooters on this team. So we’ll look at the film as a team and then we’ll approach it that
way and move forward. Gently on the left-hand, drive
to the basket that you missed. Did you did you feel like there
was cottagey feel like there was a foul late in overtime? It’s a playoff. So you know what I mean? Any play every play. You can
start probably say that. I just got to finish that I was a you know, my momentum took me a little further than I
would have liked and you know, make it a little harder but
still a player. I could have I could finish our That’s on me. It you guys take a lot of 3s.
You guys led the league, it’s what you do. How tough is it?
Mid-game to kind of switch to like okay this isn’t working,
let’s attack the basket in the first half,
you guys shot, 20 free throws
and the second half you guys were
taking a lot of three mean. How tough is it mid-game to go? Okay, this might not be effective. Let’s attack the rim, attack the
paint. I don’t think it’s hard at all.
I just being able to recognize it just being poised enough to
recognize when to take. Kitt, I went what we’re not to take it. I
don’t think we did a good job of that. Tonight of like seeing the game understanding
the game is just like we were just firing it up for whatever reason you know and
you we gotta we gotta find them better and
Rhythm get to the paint, get a pain touch you know get to the free-throw
line and those threes feel a little bit better but we’ll
look at it. Obviously was excited came out to start the second round of the
playoffs but we gotta play with more Poise and we did
tonight Jason, obviously the big story
is the collapse. After 7555, your offense completely
disappeared. Your three-point volume went way
way up. What, what happened, what were you guys
seeing on the floor? That led to that many three-pointers? Yeah, probably some sometimes
that we said, I think for myself now could have put more pressure
on the room but you know, a lot of times we
feel like we got some really, really good looks and just
couldn’t convert. There’s always when we talk
about three point volume like this, there’s the balance between good
looks or going good to great. Did you guys feel like
you passed up good to great? Did you where you guys may be going for
a? Knockout punch going for a kill instead of continuing
what you guys were successful with? Yeah, I mean it’s like I said,
it’s a lot of shots that we, you know, we want certain guys
taking and, you know, feel like we got some
good looks obviously, you know, eyesight. You know, if we could go back,
we probably could drive the ball a little
bit more because we missed a lot of shots
tonight, but, you know, there’s a balance
sometimes, you know, so making me sleep and then there’s sometimes
where, you know, you can get a better shot. Jason usually when you cross
match hunt you can kind of get deep enough into the pain till
like really draw a rotation. Where were they able to do to
kind of not get all the way shifted and how good are their
weeks. I guys are really closing out off of that. I mean yeah. You got to give them credit to
really challenge the T-Mobile fizzing
floor well-connected you know and they make it tough.
So you just got to be really intentional about what
you’re trying to do. And You know, who you’re trying to
tackle her, what action we want in those
moments. Jason, when you guys are going
through that stretch where the threes aren’t falling, and
then they’re coming back and
making all those shots. How much do you
think that momentum improve their confidence? And how difficult is it for you guys or any team really
to combat when a team? You know, gets
going like that in the momentum? I mean you know those it’s a
really good thing. They said game runs know. They make some plays. As
they have some shots and you know, we responded, we
gave ourselves a chance but you know, we just gotta we
gotta be better. And in the margins Jason, your looks and
particular. Did you like your three-point?
Looks you left, you open. They let you. You get some and Howard defense is defending
you with the three. Are they? Given you certain shots? You
just don’t think you can pass up. Like, how has kind of the defensive method against you? This year,
especially in the last few weeks been in terms of shooting
the three? I mean, yeah. I like a lot of
the looks I took the night. So my settled, you know, just a be better in some of those
moments, you know, just be a little more
intentional and in terms of, how do you not
let your frustrating with lack of calls prevents you from attacking? If you don’t think you’re going
to get a call? Is that is that connected at all? No, I don’t
connect. I mean it’s the playoffs like You know, we probably should
just play without the refs, like we have physical. It is so, you know, they don’t really
cross cross my mind at all. Drew had 16 points and really
made life difficult for Brunson at the defensive end. Just what
did you see from him? Overall in the impact he had in his
return? Yeah. I mean Drew choose me and
reality you know the Swiss army knife
the got it does every little bit everything for us you know we I was excited.
Everybody was excited that he’s back and was able to play
tonight. You thought you’d settle at
times, we’re the two switches late in regulation some of those times and then when you get Brunson
and I took it was Robinson on the other one. What are you
looking to get there? What are you trying to accomplish there
in those matchups? Yeah, I mean, just make the right read. Whatever that may be, you know. You know, shop for me, a good
shot for me, might be different things for somebody else. Yeah, and I got to say, I miss, you can always go back in and look and see what you should
have done differently. And that’s the case for, you know, a lot of times in a
lot of shots that felt good that just didn’t go in and that’s part of it. Jason on the Celtics lead the
man didn’t exist. 20 points the
third quarter. And this situation happened at the last game when you play
Magic like what are some differences
when you feel when you’re playing those two teams? I mean yes. It’s a new series different
team, different matchups, you know? And we just focus on
the next right now. So, you know, just get better and watch them filming, and get
ready for next game.
