Donovan Mitchell Sounds Off After Game 2 vs Pacers | May 6, 2025

>> THANKS. CHRIS. >> HEY DONOVAN. >> WHAT’S UP CHRIS. >> FEELING RIGHT NOW IN THIS MOMENT. >> WE GOTTA GO GET TWO IN INDY. SIMPLE AS THAT. >> GIVEN EVERYTHING. >> THAT WENT INTO THIS GAME AND EVERYTHING THAT YOU PUT INTO IT AND HOW THE ODDS WERE STACKED AGAINST YOU, BACKS AGAINST THE WALL, SHORTHANDED, HOW DO YOU PROCESS THE EMOTIONS OF THE ENDING OF THIS ONE? >> I’M PROUD OF EVERY INDIVIDUAL THAT PUT UP A FIGHT TONIGHT. WE’VE SHOWN HOW DEEP WE ARE AS A TEAM, HOW GREAT WE ARE AS A UNIT. BUT YEAH, IT’S TOUGH LOSING LIKE THAT. BUT WE GOT TO FIND A WAY TO GET TO AN INDY. >> NATE. DOES IT LOOK LIKE YOU WERE JUST PUTTING YOUR BODY ON THE LINE OVER AND OVER AGAIN? HOW DID YOU COME OUT OF IT PHYSICALLY AND WHAT WERE YOU PUSHING THROUGH A CALF STRAIN TONIGHT? IT WAS SET ON THE TNT BROADCAST. YOU WERE. >> BANGED UP. BUT WE ALL ARE. THAT’S WHAT IT IS. >> DOES IT MAKE IT HARDER TO, YOU KNOW, FOR IT TO END LIKE THAT WHEN. >> I MEAN, IT’S TOUGH, BUT THAT’S WHAT THE PLAYOFFS ARE, YOU KNOW, NOW WE GOT TWO DAYS TO GET READY FOR FRIDAY. >> HOW DO YOU MENTALLY GET PAST THIS AS YOU LOOK FORWARD TO FRIDAY FOR GAME THREE? >> YOU AIN’T GOT NO CHOICE. I MEAN, WE COULD SIT HERE AND DWELL ON THIS AND BE HOME IN ABOUT 4 OR 5 DAYS, OR WE CAN MOVE ON AND TAKE SOME THINGS THAT WE DID REALLY WELL AND GO FROM THERE. I HAVE NO DOUBT EVERYBODY IN THAT LOCKER ROOM IS READY FOR FRIDAY. IT SUCKS, IT STINGS, BUT WE GOT TO GO OUT THERE AND TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS. OTHERWISE THAT’S IT. BUT I BELIEVE IN EVERYBODY IN THE LOCKER ROOM. WE BELIEVE IN EACH OTHER. WE’LL FIGURE IT OUT. >> WHAT HAVE YOU SEEN IN THESE FIRST TWO GAMES THAT LEAD YOU TO BELIEVE THAT YOU GUYS CAN COME BACK FROM DOWN? >> I THINK THE BIGGEST THING IS WE’VE GUARDED IN SPURTS, BUT I THINK IT’S TOUGH. WE GAVE UP. 15 POINT QUARTER. THAT WAS 35, 34, 36. LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT I’M SAYING. YOU KNOW WHAT I’M SAYING. SO OUR DEFENSIVE INTENSITY IS THERE. IT’S GOT TO CONTINUE TO DO IT AS A GROUP. YEAH. BUT I’LL BE READY FOR FRIDAY. >> JOE. >> YODER WHAT WAS YOUR SPEECH. >> LIKE AFTER. EXCUSE ME? YOUR BODY TREATMENT. WHAT DID YOU HAVE TO DO? >> OH JUST NOW. >> YEAH. >> I’M ABOUT TO GO HOME AND DO THAT RIGHT NOW, TO BE HONEST WITH YOU. I’M GOOD. >> SO THE TNT REPORT ABOUT THE CALF STRAIN. I ASSUME THAT THAT IS TRUE. AND I’M ASSUMING YOU MUST HAVE HAD IT AT THE END OF GAME ONE. BUT DID YOU HAVE ANY CONSIDERATION OF NOT PLAYING? NO. COULD YOU EXPAND ON THAT AT ALL? >> I’LL BE READY FOR FRIDAY. FASHION. >> DONOVAN, I KNOW YOU WERE IN THERE ON THE REBOUND AT THE END. JUST IT LOOKED LIKE. >> I SHOULD HAVE. >> GRABBED IT. >> I SHOULD HAVE GRABBED THE BALL. I SHOULD HAVE GRABBED IT. I WAS RIGHT THERE. SO THAT’S ON ME. I DON’T MEAN TO CUT YOU OFF, BUT I SHOULD HAVE GRABBED THE BALL. AND THEN THE CHARGE CALL THEY HAD ON YOU IN THE LAST MINUTE. JUST WHAT WHAT HAPPENED THERE? >> WELL, TRY TO BE STRONG WITH THE BALL. I KNEW THEY WERE GOING TO TRAP. I GUESS I HIT HIM IN THE HEAD LIKE. BUT I’M NOT MAD AT THAT BECAUSE I WAS TRYING TO BE STRONG WITH THE BALL. IT WASN’T LIKE, YOU KNOW, THEY RIPPED IT OUT MY HANDS, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? THAT ONE WAS JUST ELBOWS ARE TOO HIGH. LIKE, YOU KNOW WHAT I’M SAYING? JUST UNDERSTANDING THAT IT’S COMING, BUT YEAH, THAT’S ON ME. AND I SHOULD HAVE GRABBED THE REBOUND. MY FAULT. I BET. >> MIKE, YOU MENTIONED THAT 15 POINT DEFENSIVE EFFORT IN THE FIRST QUARTER. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO SUSTAIN THAT LEVEL OF INTENSITY OVER THE COURSE OF FOUR QUARTERS? >> WELL, I MEAN, TO GIVE ANY CREDIT, THEY PLAY FAST, YOU KNOW, I MEAN, I THINK SLOWER PACE, WE’LL BE ABLE TO DO THAT FOR SURE. BUT SO I THINK IT’S ALWAYS TOUGH. AND YOU KNOW WE CONTINUE TO FIGHT. BUT IT’S DEFINITELY TOUGH TO CONTINUE TO PLAY AT THAT PACE. AND WE SHOWED THAT WE WERE SUSTAINED. WE CAN DO THAT. YOU KNOW I MEAN I THINK WE WERE WE WERE UP EIGHT SEVEN. THAT’S NOT WHAT LOST US. THE GAME THE END. BUT LIKE I FEEL LIKE WE PUT OURSELVES IN A GOOD SPOT DESPITE GIVING UP THOSE, THOSE, THOSE 35, 34, 36 AND THAT’S WHAT WE’LL LOOK AT ON THE FILM. HOW DO WE HOW ARE WE IN THE GAPS? CAN WE REBOUND WHATEVER IT IS, YOU KNOW, NOT FOUL LIKE WHATEVER IT MAY BE. >> SOME OF THOSE INBOUNDS PLAYS IN THE LAST MINUTE OF THE GAME, DID YOU FEEL LIKE GUYS WERE OPEN? WAS IT TOUGH TO GET OPEN IN THOSE SITUATIONS? >> I WASN’T REALLY LOOKING AT ANYBODY ELSE. I JUST WAS TRYING TO GO WITH MYSELF. BUT I COULDN’T MOVE, MAN. BUT THAT’S WHAT IT IS. WE’LL BE READY FOR FRIDAY. >> HAMMER. >> WE TALKED ABOUT THIS BEING A GAME OF MOMENTUM. NOW IT’S NOT ON YOUR SIDE RIGHT NOW. SO WHAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU GUYS NEED TO DO TO SWING IT BACK YOUR WAY? >> WATCH THE FILM AND BE BETTER AND GET READY FOR FRIDAY? I MEAN OBVIOUSLY, YEAH, EVERYBODY CAN SAY, YEAH, WE HAD DEV AND DRE OUT. I’M NOT GOING TO GO THERE. LIKE, YOU KNOW WHAT I’M SAYING? I THINK FOR US, YOU KNOW, IF THEY PLAY FRIDAY, GREAT, WE DEFINITELY USE THEM. BUT IF THEY DON’T WE GOT TO BE READY. UNDERSTAND THAT. WE’VE SHOWN WE CAN DO THIS. LIKE THIS IS IT’S A TOUGH LOSS, BUT UNDERSTANDING THAT WE’RE ALSO UP 20 WHATEVER. SO LOOK AT IT, FIGURE OUT, MAKE THE ADJUSTMENTS AND THEN GO IN ON F

  1. Why didn’t Atkinson sub in Thompson, Wade to get height for that last free throw? Just needed the rebound.

Hope the swollen ankle and bum toe will fit into golf shoes because the Cavs will be hitting the links in 5 days.

Mitchell aside, this team is still soft.

Coach of the Year needs to coach some in-bounds plays. What a disaster.

  2. Cavs please be pissed. I know they can beat the Pacers. Just keep your heads up win game 3 in Indy and keep hope alive.

  3. Their coach needs to take a look at this. No whining or making excuses. Just accepting the loss and moving on to the next game

  4. Utah Jazz sitting home like I told you so. Just a regular season player and that is it. He won't get a ring.

  5. Hearing him say “We gotta get 2 in Indy” sounds like subconscious worry. He’s right af but it didn’t sound confident fr. Hopefully they stay poised and pull through though

  6. That inbound turnover and end of game giving the pacers that fatal possession was one of the worst I've ever seen!!! Cavs have to do better in that situation!!!

  7. It would be nice if pro athletes still had the decency to show you their eyes during interviews. Guess that’s just another side effect of our “modern” indecent society continuing to roll downhill…

  8. Donovan you resorted back to your old ways… Even with the other guys gone you still have to keep your team engaged so they aren't nervous when it's time to execute at the end… Come on bro a whole season of doing it right don't revert back when we most need it

  9. I get he's frustrated, but to give Indy almost no credit, is sad.
Indy had a horrible game overall, and to come out with a win speaks volumes.

Indy for the WIN! Lets bring it home boys, one play/game at a time!!

  10. If the Cavs don't get some players back soon this dude won't make it to the end of the series. The Pacers are a speed grinder… they try to run everyone into the ground. The longer the series goes, the worse it generally gets. This is what they are and what they do. The Pacers play 11 players that are prepared to run the entire game.

  11. you can tell Donovan Mitchell is pissed. it’s a seven game series so i’m not counting them out yet. sometimes losing games like this will fuel a team to go and really play pissed off. If cleveland can get one or two of those injured players back in Garland or Mobley i’m giving them a chance
