76ers News You Need To Know Today

[Music] We have a loaded show to get to here on today’s 76ers. Now to start going to talk about some front office and coaching news as a member of Nick Nurse’s staff seems to be on the way out. Plus Elton Brand seems to be returning to the 76ers. Then we’re going to preview the 2025 NBA draft lottery which is coming up on Monday, May 12th. just in a few days here. Going to take a look at the Sixers odds and all the teams odds inside that lottery, plus the Wells Fargo Center getting a name change that will be effective heading into next season. Before we get started, you want to help us out here on the channel. I mentioned the NBA draft lottery is coming up on Monday, and I want to go live here on the channel to see if the Sixers can get that number one overall pick. But the boss has said they got to see that Sixers fans want us to go live on the channel. So, if you want to help us out and if you want us to go live for the lottery, hit that thumbs up button, like the video. Can we get to 250 likes? That’s a benchmark. If we get there, we will be live for the NBA draft lottery. We can all react together as the Sixers hopefully jump up in the lottery or we can react in sorrow if they lose their pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder. So, let’s start with some of this latest coaching news. We had some reports from several Sacramento Kings reporters, starting with Sean Cunningham, who said, “In addition to Mike Woodson joining Doug Christie staff, Doug Christie, just named the head coach of the Sacramento Kings was the interim, now the full-time head coach. I’ve had multiple sources tell me that Bobby Jackson, who was an assistant on the Sixers staff, will indeed return to Sacramento as an assistant coach.” So, we had mentioned some coaching staff changes might be coming for Philadelphia. So, it seems like that is the case. However, we’ve had some conflicting reports as well from other Sacramento Kings beat writers like Car Michael Davier says, “Contrary to reports, I’m told that although any list of assistance for the Kings would surely have Bobby Jackson’s name at or near the top, nothing has been offered or accepted as of right now. It’s a very fluid situation. So, not 100% confirmed, but it does sound like Bobby Jackson could be heading to Sacramento in the coming days or weeks. And as I mentioned, we knew that coaching staff changes were coming. Couple weeks ago, we talked about it on the channel that Nick Nurse would be returning for next season, but it was reported that it was going to be expected for some changes to be made to his assistants and his assistant coaching staff. So, that is beginning now seemingly with Bobby Jackson reportedly heading out to Sacramento. And although it’s not official yet, it does make a lot of sense because Bobby Jackson has a lot of Sacramento ties. He actually played for the Kings back in the early 2000s in their glory days from 2000 to 2005 and then returned in the ‘ 08 to09 season. He was actually teammates with new Kings head coach Doug Chrissy. So clearly a lot of ties there. He was a Kings assistant coach from 2011 to 2013 and coached their G-League team, the Stockton Kings, from 2021 to 2023. So, it does make a lot of sense for him to go back to Sacramento. And look, as a coach and as a player, he’s been pretty successful. He won the summer league as the King Summer League head coach in the summer of 2021. And then in the 2022 2023 season with the G- League team, the the Stockton Kings, he had the G-League’s best record at 25 and seven, the number one seed in the G-League playoffs. And he’s been regarded as a very successful and praised as a great head coach. He also had success in his playing career, won six man of the year back with the Sacramento Kings in 2003 and was on the old rookie second team back in 1998. Now, Jackson did come to Philly with Nick Nurse and his hiring in 2023. He came over, he’s been with the team for the past couple of seasons, but it does sound like he is on the way out. So, a well- reggarded, talented assistant coach seems to be leaving the staff, but again is to be expected and I expect that we will see some more changes in the coming weeks and coming months. Now to more of the front office news here as Jake Fischer is reporting that Sixers general manager Elton Brand has withdrawn from Atlanta’s president of basketball operation search. Brand played for the Hawks and hold strong relationships with the franchise but is staying with Philadelphia for a very important offseason and it certainly is a very important offseason for Philly. And Elton Bran will remain with the Sixers for at least the short foreseeable future. and Brandt took over as a Sixers general manager back in 2018 and he was only GM for two years now. He still has the GM title. Of course, Sixers ended up hiring Daryl my who makes a lot of the basketball decisions, but in his first two years as GM, Bran did have control over the personnel and he made a lot of notable moves in his short time behind the helm. traded for Jimmy Butler, traded for Tobias Harris, traded away Markel Folultz to the Orlando Magic, actually got back a pick in that trade that turned into Tyrese Maxi. He then traded away Jimmy Butler for Josh Richardson, signed Al Horford to that big deal, not great. Extended Tobias Harris, not great. Extended Ben Simmons, also not great, although you could see why at the time. He also fired Brett Brown to bring in Doc Rivers. Now, as I mentioned, Daryl my was hired as a Sixers president of basketball operations following the 2020 season. And since then, he’s really been the one making the big decisions. Elton Bran obviously still with the organization and still has that general manager title, but sort of taken a backseat to Daryl my kind of seen my clean up some of Bran’s mistakes that he made in his short time. I think, you know, he’s a talented front office member and someone that you value in your organization, but probably got that job a little too quickly and was sort of thrown into the fire. Obviously in consideration with Atlanta, but he will remain with Philadelphia. I’ I’ve already seen some fans kind of upset about it, but I think he’s a valuable member to have in the front office. Now, coming up next here on the show, little bit of an MBA draft lottery preview coming up on May 12th, starting at 700 p.m. Eastern. will decide the fate and the future really of this 76ers team if they can keep that top six protected first round pick and hopefully draft an impact player that can help them bridge the gap between maybe moving away from some of their older guys and moving towards a more younger future with this squad. So you take a look here at the odds to receive the number one overall pick. This is every team in the lottery. The chances they get number one overall of course the three worst teams all tied at 14%. Jazz, Wizards, Hornets, then the Pelicans at 12 and a half, and the Sixers a 10 and a half% chance to get that number one overall pick ahead of the rest of the lottery teams there. I’ll take a 10% chance, not much lower than the teams that you see in front of them. The NBA recently within the past 5 years or so changed these lottery odds so that kind of to, you know, decentivize tanking and to discourage tanking. So 10% chance you get Cooper Flag in this draft. And then odds to be in the top four, which of course is important for Philly because their pick is top six protected. So you don’t want to fall too far outside of here. 42% chance for the Sixers to land in that top four currently with the fifth best lottery odds. Again, you’re just hoping that they can stay in this range, not to draft an impact player, but also to make sure they keep that pick because it will go to the Oklahoma City Thunder if it does not land in the top six. And then we’ll take a look sort of at where the odds are for each pick the Sixers could get. They can land anywhere from one to number nine. As I mentioned, 10 and a half% chance at landing number one. Same goes for number two, number three, and number four. So again, about a 40% chance there in the top four. Funny enough, they have the fifth best lottery odds, but only a 2% chance of landing number five. It’s just funny the way the NBA does their lottery odd system. They actually have a 20% chance of landing the number six overall pick. And where it gets a little bit scary, a 26% chance of getting number seven. So that’s the largest chance they have to land at any number one or any individual pick in the lottery. And if it lands at number seven or number eight or number nine, it does go to OKC. And then the Sixers taking at the end of the year kind of all for nothing and you have to move forward with the roster you have right now which would just be an absolute disaster for Philadelphia. Now Jared McCain will represent the Sixers at the lottery. Every team in the lottery sends a representative to be on stage to be there and react. They might say a few words as the lottery balls are picked and the order is determined. So Jiren McC will be there. You know, makes sense guy that was drafted just last year. very high energy, good spirit, something you like to see on the TV. But also, we had a little Duke connection going on. Maybe the Sixers trying to get some good vibes in there at the lottery. Of course, McCain and Cooper Flag never played together, but both did attend Duke. So maybe Philadelphia, you know, just trying to set the vibes right and trying to give themselves some good luck to jump up to number one. And could you imagine how great it would be if Jared McCain is there and the Sixers Duke got up to number one and they’re able to get another member of the Duke Blue Devils there on the squatted Cooper flag. again 10% chance they get number one and hopefully we’re live for it and you’ll be able to join us as we see this momentous occasion in 76ers basketball. So predict it for me what pick will the Sixers land in the 2025 NBA draft. You can say anyone anything from number one and number six or if you think they don’t keep their pick just let me know like hey I think the pick’s going to OKC. I’m going to predict they get number three. That is my guess. Coming up next going to talk about the Sixers Stadium. their arena, the Wells Fargo Center, is no longer. Now, the arena will still be there, at least for the foreseeable future, but it’s getting a name change that we will discuss that I’m not sure I’m a huge fan of, but at the end of the day, it’s just the name of the arena. But before we get to that, 76ers jerseys are on sale right now through our friends at Fanatics. There’s no better time to get a jersey than right now. I know we still have a ways to go till the season, but you’d rather be early than late. And with the sales going on, you can find some of these jerseys anywhere from 25% to some are even 50 plus% off. You can get current players Tyrese Maxi, Joel Embiid, Quinton Grimes, Jared McCain, or you can get former stars like Alan Iverson, and Julius Irving. But make sure you go to chatsports.com/76 jerseys for that deal to apply. And they know that we sent you over here at 76ers. Now again, anywhere from 25, I’ve even seen some 50 plus% off. So, waste no time. Deals not going to last forever. That’s chatsports.com/76 jerseys. All right. So, the Wells Fargo Center officially getting a name change heading into next season. It is now Exfinity Mobile Arena. The Sixers announced this yesterday with a press release and released a few photos as well of what the arena could look like. You see sort of the purple glow there and obviously the text on the arena now reading Exfinity Mobile Arena. kind of a mouthful to say and I’ll get into sort of my thoughts on the change. Of course, the Sixers will be getting a new arena in after 2031. So, until then, it will be known as the Xfinity Mobile Arena for both the Sixers and the Flyers. You get another look here at what the arena could be looking like. And then sort of a top down view. I like the, you know, purple kind of lighting around it. I know it doesn’t really match the Sixers or the Flyers, but I think, you know, kind of want to be a little bit neutral there. And it looks dope at night. During the day, not so much. But hey, you’re going to games at night anyway. So, what does it really matter? Sixers did release a press release through Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment, of course, who owns the 76ers with Josh Harris, and they said this. Exfinity Mobile will bring cuttingedge Wi-Fi capabilities to the arena so fans stay connected from the tailgate to the concourse. Xfinity Mobile customers will automatically join a supercharged Wi-Fi experience in the arena that will deliver lightning fast speeds with Comcast Wi-Fi power boost feature at no extra cost. Fans can stream can share photos, videos, and stream with their friends and family as they experience their favorite moments and action in the arena. The Exfinity Mobile partnership set to begin September 1st, 2025, this upcoming season with installation of new signage to be revealed on September 2nd. The partnership will run through the 2030 2031 season, include exterior branding, interior digital signage, inclusion on advertising, branded Wi-Fi, hospitality, and official partnerships with the Flyers and the Sixers. And as I mentioned, that will run through 2031. And then we will be getting an entirely new arena, as we talked about before, in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. So they’re not going anywhere. It’s going to build a brand new arena, a little more up to-date than the Wells Fargo Center, which, you know, at this point has been around for a little bit of time. Look, just from a name perspective, Xfinity Mobile Arena, I’m not so sure I like it. It’s kind of a mouthful to have to say. You know, Wells Fargo Center kind of flows off the tongue a little bit better than Xfinity Mobile Arena. I would have rather it be just Xfinity Arena. I think that does sound a whole lot better. And I’ve seen some people on Twitter like, “Why couldn’t have been the Hogy-Deo? What is Waw Wa doing?” You know, but I did see some people say, “You could just call it the X.” You know, I don’t mind that. I don’t mind that either. Hopefully, though, with this arena, they just have some better success than they did in the Wells Fargo Center. Now, it was officially renamed the Wells Fargo Center before the 2010 NBA season. So, you think about where this team has kind of been over the past 10 plus 15 years and hasn’t been a whole lot of success really regular season or postseason. They obviously went through the whole trusted process era in that time and they’ve had more success as of recently, but not a whole lot of postseason success. It’s a 409 and 392 regular season record since the arena became named the Wells Fargo Center. It’s been the same arena since, I believe, the the late ‘9s, but it was renamed Wells Fargo Center in 2010. A 42 and 43 playoff record and no conference finals appearances. So maybe the name change can bring the Sixers some better luck. And the last season in the Wells Fargo Center, just an absolute disaster. So new arena name. And one of the points they also mentioned was the better Wi-Fi. If you’ve been to the Wells Fargo Center, the Wi-Fi in there is absolutely atrocious. So maybe that fixes things a little bit, but at at the end of the day, you’re there to watch a basketball game. Anyways, I just want to see some success on the floor and maybe a name change. Can change the vibes a little bit. What say you? Do you like the new arena name? If you do, give me a Y for yes. If you don’t, give me an N for no. And if you don’t like it, give me maybe another name you would have liked to see or maybe a creative nickname that we can call Xfinity Mobile Arena because that’s kind of a mouthful. not going to want to be saying that every single time that I mention the arena. I kind of like the name the X. All right, that’ll do it on today’s show. If you watch the entire thing and you made it to this point, hopefully that does mean that you enjoyed the video. If you did, I encourage you to subscribe, hit that sub button for yearround Sixers coverage. And as always, let’s go Sixers. [Music]

  2. You need to point out what to watch for to see if we are getting a pick 6 or higher. Basically you need picks 14 to 8 to go to the teams that are slotted in those spots. Say if team 14 doesn't get called at 13 or 14 that means they are going up and sixers are possibly going down.
