Why Wemby Wanted Him As The Next Spurs Coach
The San Antonio Spurs said farewell to one of the greatest coaches of all time Gregg Popovich. Next in line? His former assistant Mitch Johnson, who has already coached the Spurs throughout most of the 2024-25 season. More importantly, he’s got the trust from their franchize star Victor Wembanyama, who’s been closely working with Johnson. Are we going to see another assistant coach becoming a certified head coach or is he just warming the spot for Chris Paul?

3:32 i Disagree, wtf he was doing in rotation with Sochan( playing 5 in ofense and 1/2 on defense) , he fook up rotation for Keldon(after Vemby Injury he got few good games) ,Devin Vassel, killed his confident( not whorth his contract) . One good thing Castle can shine with this lack rotation

First of all, I didn't want them to hire a fired coach, I'm glad they didn't. When it came to head coaches I was thinking Jason Kidd. But since Popovich took over the spurs have kept their own counsel. And they always hire from within. They will approach the draft the same way.
It's Mitch Johnson's team now. And what an opportunity. A 3 man core, experienced veterans like Barnes and Paul, and 2 lottery picks. If this is the right hire the spurs will be back on top.

I just hope mitch proved me wrong, coz he got horrible like horrible non sensical line up 😀 i just hope he did it purposefully since we semi tanking this season coz a lot.. a lot of spurs fans hate this man lol-and im not gonna wait for a coach to get better, we need a proven result next season or he gotta go, cannot wait for a young coach to develop lol

Pop has been losing for years now and has become the Jerry Jones of the NBA. That is, naming an inept coach that he can manipulate and that makes Pop's record look great. We all had a sampling of six months of G-League Mitch's "coaching" style and concluded, easily, that being a head coach is out of his depth. By next season's trade deadline people will know why I said that appointing Mitch Johnson as HC was going to be a BIG MISTAKE…UNLESS, they pair Wemby with another superstar to hide the mistakes G-League Mitch will continue to make next season.
CP3 is not going to stick around for G-League Mitch Johnson. Spurs are a .500 team with him as coach. We all had a sampling of six months of Mitch's "coaching" style and easily concluded that being a head coach is out of his depth. Hope he is demoted by next season's trade deadline. To coverup the ineptness of their new head coach the Spurs will need either Giannis, KD, or some other star stud.
I was right about the Spurs hiding Pop's health from the public. And I will be right about the fans realizing PATSFO made a mistake hiring G-League Mitch…UNLESS they mortgage the future to hide G-League Mitch's inept "coaching" and get either Giannis, KD, or some other star stud to accomplish that coverup of Mitch's "coaching".
Why didn't you mention Monty Williams? He both played and coached under Pop. Was VERY successful in Phoenix. Was Coach of the Year and took them to the Finals. But then a Tribal member buys the team and fires him.
And Popovich is still the franchise's president. Gregg has been preparing his succession for several years. He will probably make adjustments but he wants his legacy to continue.
