How many picks should the Kings be willing to part with? — 5/8/25 — The Drive Guys

at 11:40 a.m. Streaming audio at sacktownports.com and the sack town sports app. You can also watch the show on YouTube at Sacktown Sports 11:40. Here are the drive guys with Kevin Gleason and Kyle Draper. Just for the record, you know, Jose just did a fine job going in for Allan Styles. He hasn’t done it in a while. I bet you can tell you listen was like, “Okay, this is a guy who’s done it.” So he asked me to do the crossover with him. Two things. First of all, Kyle Draper walks in. And so I’m like, “Hey, you want Draes to do the crossover?” Jose’s like, “Of course.” So, oh, you didn’t tell me that part about it. Yeah. D’s like, “Nah, you got it. You got you.” Well, there’s some backstory to that. First of all, let me tell you about my drive in. Okay. I hop in the car leaving beautiful Volum, California. That’s where I live. Sure. Put it in the GPS. Even though I know how to get here, I always put it in the GPS. See the timing. It said, “You will arrive to Sack Town Sports 11:40 at 1:23.” I said, “Oh, whoa, whoa, hold up. That’s a little too early.” So, I took the scenic route. Uh-huh. Even stopped at Starbucks around the corner cuz I couldn’t get in here. It’s so early. Yeah. And I knew the crossover usually starts cross talk at about 1:40, 1:42, right? So, I roll in at 1:47. Talk to our boy Kyle behind the boards. Yeah. the late break. Uh they’re about to do the crossover, you know, and I’m like, “Okay, okay.” And then you come in, you’re like, “Do you want to do it?” I’m like, “No.” And then Kyle’s like, “Man, if you do it today, Allan Styles will be pissed of all days.” So, you know, out of respect for my guy Allan Styles. I didn’t want to do it because I don’t usually do it. Out of respect. Out of respect. And so, that’s why I did not do it. And plus, you’re such a pro at it, man. like I don’t want to come in and mess it all up or anything like that. You’re such a pro. Sure. The other thing is, you know, Jose is just to fill it in. He is the program director, so he’s our boss. One of the things in radio, not to bore you with the behind the uh curtain stuff, but program directors will say, you know, you got to stop here. You know, we stop at this time for this reason and do this this long. And so I’m sitting there and he’s like, he’s blowing way past his brain. Hello. I break. That’s why I was like 147. But he’s But usually he’s on it. He’s telling us guys, we got to hit the brakes. We got He’s a little rusty. He’s a little rusty. I’m going to cut him some slack. I’m going to cut him some slack. But that was fun. I thought about coming in actually, but I’m like I thought about it and me and Kyle had a fiveminute discussion about it. Like should I go in, shouldn’t And I didn’t want to do that till Allan stops. We could still tell Allan you came in to see how he reacts. I kind of wanted to. I totally like if there was one day to do it, this should have been the day for me. But, you know, I decided not to, man. I don’t want to mess up a good thing. You You got a good thing going with that. Cross talk. So, got good uh good vibes in this place. Yeah. Not so good are the vibes in the Boston Celtics locker room. What’s going on with the Celtics? Losing last night, they made history in a bad bad way. Celtics became the first team in the play-by-play era, which is since 9697, to blow two 20point leads in the same postseason, and they did it in back-to back games. That’s terrible. I I have a lovehate relationship with the Celtics. This is I I’m torn literally on this one, Whitey, because Tatum is my guy. I’ve talked about Tatum before. Still mad at Steve Curry. Even yesterday, I said if there was a player I would want to come back as body type, it would be Jason Tatum. But I don’t know what’s going on out there in Boston. My son’s upset. He’s all moody now and everything. You know, my ex, she’s a huge Celtics fan. Her Wi-Fi password has to deal with the Celtics and everything like that. What is it? I can’t tell you that. I can’t tell you that. Sorry. I just But but here’s the thing. I got all these Celtics fans and you know me. I’m a contrarian. You know that at heart. And I’m like, I don’t know if I could pull for the Celtics, but Tatum’s my guy. JB is my guy. Is it too many threes? That’s what it That’s what it seems like to me. Because here’s the thing. I’m watching the game. I’m actually And don’t do this at home. I’m watching it while driving home last night. I know. You know, I got the second screen going on. I got my eyes looking at the road and then the other eye looking as bad as admitting you’re a Tatum fan today that you do that. I will wear that proudly. I will be wear Jason Tatum proudly. That dude is nice. We’ll get to Tatum in a second. But I’m watching the game and I’m thinking to myself, the more threes the Celtics miss, the harder it will be to make it. It’s sort of like, you know, it starts snowballing. And I felt like you could see that from the Celtics. Once they miss one, they miss five in a row, eight in a row, 10 in a row. It was like, “Oh my god, they’re tightening up here. Every shot looks tight.” Credit to the Knicks. Great comeback. You know, Brunson, phenomenal. My boy Mikuel Bridges, uh, phenomenal as well. But now we got to listen to Knicks fans. Now I got to turn on ESPN and see Stephen A. Smith this morning. It’s It’s kind of disgusting. So that’s why I’m torn Whitey. It’s like I don’t like Knicks fans, but then Celtics fans piss me off, too. It’s hard. But you like Big Perk, right? That’s your guy. That’s my guy. That is my guy. You hear what he said about Tatum? What’d he say? He said he just doesn’t have that dog in him. Nah, I don’t believe that. See, this is revisionist history when it comes to Jason Tatum. I’ve seen him go into a game six against Milwaukee. I’ve seen him go a game six and a game seven against Philadelphia. I’ve seen them have big games with their backs against the wall. I fully expect Jason Tatum to come out when they play again Sunday I think or Saturday one of those to drop 35 to 40 this next game. The dude is really really really good. He’s just having a rough stretch right now. I know after the first game well Joe Missoula said after game one he said Tatum it wasn’t inefficient. He took good shots that didn’t go in. He said last night he passed up some shots that he should have taken. He did. He did. But Tatum didn’t lose that game. Whitey, we need to have a referendum on Joe Missoula right now. Oo, this was almost as bad as Mark Dagno late in the game. Joe Mazula, in my opinion, botched this game. How so? Saving that timeout, not using that timeout. Not even that one. I’mma go before 3:18 left to go. By the way, the next team is Saturday. Oh, is Saturday is what? 3:30. 12:30 our time. 3:30 Eastern. Yeah, I go back to about 3:18. The Knicks are making their run. You know the rules, Whitey. They got the use it or lose it timeout. Celtics had three timeouts. Every coach in the last three years takes that timeout. I told Nick, my son, I said, I don’t remember a coach actually not take he didn’t take the timeout. So, he botched that one. Two, he botched it by not calling timeout on the last possession. Here’s why. He said, “Well, we drew up that play. Had the same play at work last time.” When you got 12 seconds left, don’t you want to advance the ball? Don’t you don’t want to waste time dribbling three seconds to get just to get it across half court. You got to take that time. Even if you run the same play, inbounded into half court at half court, have Tatum running up and then do it. So, I thought he botched that. And then the hack of Mitchell Robinson. Did you see that, Whitey? No, I wasn’t home yet. So, Celtics have two fouls in the period. Four minutes left. Fouls Mitchell Robinson. Right. Right. Right. Right. So he’s trying to play hack of Mitchell Robinson, but the reason you do that is to send Mitchell Robinson to the line. Yeah. They weren’t in the penalty yet. They took him off the floor and then Right. So they committed the fourth and then they committed and then OG Anobi came in for the last 30 seconds before the two-minute. It it just he was thoroughly out coached by my boy Tom Thibido last night. We should be talking about Joe Missoula coming up short instead of Jason Tatum. Somebody tweeted out too. I I I forget who it was. It might have been somebody locally um national. I can’t remember. And it might have been Alan Styles. Our boy Allen Styles actually. Yeah. Because I I think he said something to the effect of I still don’t know if Joe Missoula is a good coach actually. And I might be with Allen Styles on this one. He might have lucked into this championship last year. He botched that one last night. When I got in the door, open the door and I hear Sheena and she’s like, “Oh no, I thought she was on the phone or something. Oh no, did something bad happen? I can’t believe it.” No, she was just reacting to the end of the game. And she’s not a Celtics fan per se, but just the way they blew that game, she couldn’t believe it. And then to your point about the timeout, okay, they they tried to run the same play with Tatum that had worked on the previous possession where he got right to the rack and scored, but that worked because was it OG got picked uh I think by Horford. So you could see the second time they ran it early on, you could see it didn’t work. Yeah. So then you still could have called timeout, right? You still had I don’t know six at least. Yeah. you you had time, you know, once the play sort of, you know, didn’t work and he had to carine off into the corner where he’s in trouble there. Dave de Bush is over there and Willis Patrick jumping out of the stands to come over and everything. Time out. Time out. Yeah, he he was I I thought he was really bad. And I’m looking for this uh Allen Styles tweet that I I referenced. Unfortunately, it’s going to take me about two days cuz he tweets so much. So, I’m have to scroll. I’m just I’m I’m still bear with me on this, but I think it was 4:00 we might find it. No, but yeah, that was uh that was shocking. And now the Celtics are down 02. Who who would have thought this team that many people predicted to be the favorite? This team that their fan base laughed at Cleveland for going down 02 to the Pacers now find themselves in that same prediction. Yeah, your guy Scal said when they had the 20-point lead and Tatum bounced it to Jaylen Brown and he had the easiest dunk, layup, whatever he wanted, and he fumbled it out of bounds. They were, like I said, they were up 20. Scal said right after that, he said they just from there they fractured. I’m not shedding the tear. I told you I got I’m I got a lovehate relationship with the Celtics. You’re a little more uh upset about it than I thought you cuz I thought you did not like the Celtics and now you’re a little No, Tatum is my guy, dude. I know, but you don’t like Celtics. I don’t like the Celt, but I like Tatum. Tatum is my dude, I got the pictures with him and the kids and everything. That’s my dude right there. And I want him to succeed at the highest of levels because I do think he’s a top five player in the NBA. I do think he gets a royal deal a lot. It’s hard to defend him today because he’s had two subpar games, but Jason Tatum is nice, man. Are the Celtics on the verge of a bust up that the Kings could maybe take advantage of? Oo, we’ll dive into that next here with the drive guys on Sacktown Sports, of course. Get ready for Camping World’s Red, White, and New Trade event May 15th through the 18th. [Music] The only station in Sacramento giving you local sports coverage from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sack Town Sports. Drapes. We’ve really kind of hit that dry spot for Kings news, haven’t we? Right now. You know, we’re talking about coaching show, coaches getting hired yesterday and it’s just like, yeah, there’s kind of like a lid on everything right now. Don’t worry, big fella. If Monday that’ll change when the pingpong balls or the frozen envelope or whatever it may be bounces our way, you know, and we got our boy Mike Bby coming up at 3:00. Talk about SAK State. And Mike Woodson who he played for uh in Atlanta, I think it was I need to look that up. Did you look that up already? Yeah, I think he played three seasons under Woody in Atlanta. Atlanta, one of those was a partial season. And then I think, and you said yesterday, his last year with the Knicks, I think he played for Woody as well. Woody there, too, right? Yeah. Woody. Yeah. Yeah. See, we’ve had Woody on. We could probably get Woody on, but we’d probably get, you know, why not? Let’s get Woody. Jay, call Woody right now. I might text Woody, right? You know, I don’t care. The only person on this show that’s going to get in trouble is talking. And they ain’t going to be me. Come on, man. It’s off season, baby. you know, we we free to do whatever in the offse. That’s right. You know, yeah, he’ll probably say, you know, no, he would say yes to us. We had him on when he was just kind of out there, right? He was just Mike Witson, not Mike Witson. King’s uh assistant coach. Yeah. No, he was the coach of Indiana. Was he coach Indiana when we had him on? Yes. But we had him on because of his uh placing in the top 40 king. Yes. So he he owes us he owes We voted him in. That’s right. You voted him in. No, I guess we voted him in. Um, yeah. Uh, so hold up. We didn’t get Jay’s reaction though to which the Celtics last night cuz I know he’s anti- Celtics. He doesn’t like the Celtics. He didn’t like watching. Let me see what my boy Derek White did last night. What you think about Celtics losing last night? You know what I think? It was a beautiful situation. Is he the Dicks fan all of a sudden? I see him. Omari Style Meer, where he at, baby. Reggie Oakley, Charles Smith. Matter of fact, I should text Charles Smith right now. Charles, jump on, man. Hold up. I’m just waiting till the the clock strikes 12 on the Celtics. Tate, I like Tatum. I’m actually a Tatum guy. Thank you. But Drapes, we got to be honest, man. Come on, man. He the first game he was literally hitting three-pointers off the back of the glass before he hit the rim. He not built for it when it’s all said and done. He got him one. He got him one. What? He got him one. You agree with Perk, don’t you? Oh, big perk. Ask Giannis if Jason Tatum’s built when he went into Milwaukee and won a game seven. I think it was. Come on, man. I like Tatum. I’m a Tatum. I’m not Hey, Tatum is the perfect face of the NBA. What if he only wins one championship? And I know that’s that sounds crazy, but I’m just saying they’re trying to anoint him. What if he only gets one? That would be underachieving for most players. You win one, it’s great. It is great. But you’re best player on that team in Boston, just one when you’ve come closer other times. That would be an underachchievement. Career underachievement. It would be. It it would be be but that’s because he’s so great and we predict greatness for Jason Tatum that the expectations are so high for them. Yeah. And so it it’s either championship or bus. That’s when you know you’re in rarified air. What happened with D White? D White 20 points last night. Jay, oh man, come on. This is great. Derek White, I need 37, baby. My boy Jaylen Brown 20. Celtics were just bad last night. Let’s just call it what it is. But regarding Jason Tatum, I’ll say this. He’s at a level now. He’s above and hear me out and Jay, don’t jump down my throat when I say this. He’s at a point where if he doesn’t win, he gets criticized. It’s his fault. He’s above SGA right now. He’s above Joic right now. Jokic ain’t under no pressure. How many titles Joic got? How’s he? He’s got one and he’s also I’m talking about the expectation like the level of we expect you to be a champion. We’re not expecting SGA to win a champion. We’re not expecting Brunson or Mitchell or or even Luca to be a champion. Why is it when just because Jason Tatum comes up short now it’s a referendum on his career? He’s also on a well maybe he’s certainly on a better team than Joic is but it’s the best player in the world, greatest center of all time. Some say top 10 player of all time. Joic is getting the pass. If they don’t get it done one NBA championship, here’s one two Western Conference Finals. Come on. He You can say he’s underachieved. The most damning thing about Tatum and the Celtics last night was a put up or shut up game for both them and for OKC. And I know the Knicks are probably better than Denver, but OKC went out and they like took care of business big time. And the Celtics had a big lead and then just kind of and you know that you saw, you know, you know that’s true. As a I value your sports knowledge. You’ve been around sports your entire life. You know, a series ain’t over till it’s over. So, I’m not saying this series is over. Yeah. I’m not either, but that was a chance to make a state and you get another chance to uh Sunday afternoon. You get another chance in game four. I need to see it all play out before I have like big perks at a referendum. He ain’t built for this moment. What are you talking about? He went to Philly. He beat Philly in the game six and a game seven. did the same thing against Milwaukee. He was built for it. He’s shown it’s not just either you have it. How many times did Kobe Bryant come up short? Check out Kobe Bryant game seven against the Boston Celtics in the 2008 champ or 2010 championship. They won, but it wasn’t because of Kobe. Kobe was six of 23. I think it was. Tatum, that’s not a good not a good confrontation. You know, I don’t allow Tatum slander. I can’t. I I will defend that. You have to be honest about what’s going on and what we’re all seeing. He’s struggling right now. Yeah, but there it’s not over yet, Whitey. I know that. I I’ve seen those first two games at home. Yeah. Yeah, but as somebody said, they’ve actually were a better road team than home team. Look at last year they struggle. Look at a couple of years ago when Miami had them on the ropes and they came back and forced the game seven. It’s not over yet. Knicks fans better calm down. Calm the hell down just a little bit. Exactly. It ain’t over just yet. You know, it’s easy to say, to your point, it’s easy to say if you’re a Knicks fan or if you’re a fan of, say, the Pacers, honor, now we’re going back home. We got this. But clearly, home court does not mean what it used to mean, right? Which means when you go home, home court still doesn’t mean what it used to mean. So, you can’t assume that you’ll take care of business at home because nobody’s taking care of business at home. All of a sudden, the Knicks are some world beaters at Madison Square Garden. They’ll be the one team that wins. Didn’t they lose to Detroit at home? Yes. Yeah. Maybe even a couple times, fellas. Everybody’s right. And so that’s the thing. And so I I I firmly believe the Celtics still have a shot at this. I’m looking at Jason Tatum’s career uh playoff numbers right here, fellas. Oh my gosh. Look at this series against Milwaukee when they made it to the finals and played uh the Warriors. 2129 then had 10 terrible game four of 19 bounced back 30 34 46 in a must-win game at Milwaukee and then closed them out with 23 that that’s a big moment too I think where often times in sports you know it’s what have you done for me lately you know slaves to the moment this dude got a long I seen him go up against LeBron James as a young player and rise to the occa Asia, what do we This would be a very humiliating loss for them. And you would know more about this than we would, but you know, back east, Boston losing to New York. It would be like the Red Sox losing to the Yankees. It would be like uh the Patriots losing to the Giants in the Super Bowl. If you’re win all those games, you’re playing the Knicks, you drop the first two at home and lose that series, you guys are right. It hadn’t happened yet. But all of a sudden, it’s looking a lot more real than it did. And that that’s why people back east, like I say, you live there. I never lived there. That’s why a lot of people back there, they are gripping right now. The ruins to the Rangers. Yes% the Devils. Say High Islanders. All it’s 100%. You’re right. Losing to New York means if you lose to Charlotte, Detroit, that’s when you lose to the Knicks. Yeah, it’s going. But then I’m looking at Tatum first round against Orlando. I understand his first round averaged 31.3 points. He’s just had two bad games. still time to, you know, it’s not like Brunson went off last night. It just it happens. Not you’re not gonna be great every single night. I fully expect my guy to bounce back. I tell you one thing that I don’t think is fair. He didn’t meet with the media after the game, but it looks like there was a fire alarm went off and they evacuated. People criticizing him for that. I’m not sure. People that don’t know what happened, I think maybe are wondering why he didn’t even talk with the media, but they had to evacuate. Yeah, they had the fire alarms went off and you know fire in the locker room or are the Celtics on fire? Waiting. And are they burning or did somebody pull the alarm? Pull it so they can exit stage quick. Yeah, that’s how y’all getting down over here at the guard the guard. You know how it is out there. You know how it is out there. What happens? Let me ask you guys this real fast. What happens? They get swept. Oh, that’d be that is detrimental. Devastating. Yeah. How in terms of reaction? They don’t blow it up or anything or we got they might anyway, right? From what we’re hearing. Yeah, but when I say blow it up, I mean Tatum and Brown like those guys are safe, right? You would think depends how this plays out. I tell you, if Jaylen Brown becomes available, exactly. I will be I know that’s where you want to go. Like those some of those pieces. Sign me up. Right. All those Boston pieces. If by chance the Kings were in the conversations, this guy maybe, but not a good fit. That guy, I don’t know. Jaylen Brown. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. 100%. Giving up anybody for JB. Yes. Okay. Damn. JB. And so would most of the lead. We’d be right behind, as you guys have said, would literally be right behind OKC and behind Utah and behind Houston. We got six picks, right? Yeah. Yeah, you’re right about OKC. They might offer JDub and two first or something like that to get that. Yeah. But keep a close eye on that Whitey. Anybody else you want from that team? Drew Holland. A lot of guys I like. I just don’t think they fit here. No. Does he? I mean, he’s just he’s not going to be around that long and he makes a ton of money. 30 mil phenomenal. 30 mil. You’re going to have to move off some money obviously. I would like Drew Holiday here. Jay, I know you’re a Drew Holiday guy, right? I know he helps you well with establish your I get all that. You know, that’s he’s the you know, yesterday you said what? Uh you said young Yeah. can shoot or defend or defend. Yeah, he can shoot and defend, right? Yeah, he’s old. And but and he can run an offense for a couple of years, too. Yeah, I like He doesn’t need the ball in his hand either. Yeah. Um and there’s been a lot of talk about Boston maybe breaking it up. We’ll see what Sam Mo thinks that he’s going to join us here. I’ve been watching the NBA for a long, long time. Drapes has been working in the NBA for a long, long time. I don’t know about you, Drapes, but I watch these games and I realize I have no idea what’s going on with the trying to make sense of it all. with the road teams winning with regularity. Maybe our next guest can help explain uh what’s up. Senior NBA writer Hoopsswire, he’s going to join us in just a moment here, Sam Amo. But it has been difficult, Drapes, to make sense of it, you know. Oh, the road team won. Wow. Okay, that’s unusual, but it happens. They won again. Road team won again. Okay. Three in a row, four in a row, five in a row, six in a row. I don’t know what’s going on. What is it? Uh road teams are what? Six in one, I think, or something like that. uh two more. Yeah. In the second round so far, it’s unbelievable. So, the lower seeds have dominated uh this second round. Go back to the end of the first round with the uh Warriors in Houston, right? They want it. Yeah. On the road, you know, it’s uh you you brought it up uh a few weeks ago, a month ago, or whatever about home court just not being what it used to be. And I think we talked because it was a three-point shot, right? Like looks like it. Yeah. Home court has gone down while three-point shooting has gone up. So maybe there’s a connection there. Uh I don’t know. Maybe Sam can tell us. As I said, senior NBA writer from Hoopswire, Sam AMO. Sam, not to put you on the spot, but what the hell’s going on with all these road teams winning in the NBA? I don’t know. I mean, that’s a great question. It just seems like, you know, we’re seeing historical NBA playoffs right now, which I think is kind of cool. So, I don’t know. Must be something in the water. Yeah. You know, Sam, I’m trying to make sense of the Boston Celtics, um, Cleveland for that matter. Do you think anything that’s happened the first two games changes your opinion on who the ultimate champion will be? Are the Celtics, can they still be considered the favorite, the team to beat Audi? What do you think? You know, if you would asked me after game one that they lost, I would have said, “Yeah, they’re still considered the favorites. Everybody deserves, you know, an aberition of losing at home.” But then you go 0 and2 at home and now you’re going on the road. Uh they’ve looked very very vulnerable. I I I think the team that’s looked the best in the East in the in the playoffs right now would be the Indiana Pacers. Yeah. Right. They they just seem to be finding ways to win. They’ve managed to stay healthy. They’ve got a great rotation. They can get it done inside and out. So, yeah, I mean, after losing that second game and blowing a second 20point lead at home in three nights, which is unheard of. Boston’s definitely vulnerable. So, if you if you’re asking me who’s a favorite to come out of the East, I’m right at this very moment, I’ll say yeah, Indiana face. Wow. That’s Sam Amo, senior NBA writer. Hoops wire. Sam, I’m not rationalizing here in asking this next question, and I’m not a Boston fan. I’m not a Cavaliers fan, but I’m just trying to figure this out. If homec court advantage is declining or not what it once was, does that mean that maybe Boston and Cleveland are in less trouble than it looks like? It could, you know, it could be. Look, it it it’s this is the first time, first of all, that two 60 win well, it’s the first time that one 60 win team went down 200 in the second round in either conference. And now you’ve had two of them do that. So, we’re making history here. We saw that the road teams until last night when Oklahoma City won were 6 and0 in the second round. That’s history. Well, now Cleveland and Boston, I think, can make history. I think Boston’s more likely to do it only because Cleveland obviously at this point has been missing, you know, so many key pieces. But I I I still think, yeah, two nothing is nothing when you’re as good as Cleveland and Boston were all year. I I I don’t think that’s, you know, listen, 3 nothing, forget it. It’s over. two nothing. No, if you win game if you’re Boston Cleveland and you go on the road and you get game three, well, guess who the pressure is on now? It’s back in the lower seeds, right? And then all of a sudden, the series changes. So, it it’s only going to take one game for Cleveland or Boston to to turn this series, both of these series on their ear. But it has to be the next game. It has to, you know, Cleveland and Boston have to win the next game, which is the first game on the road. Hey Sam, let’s go out west. Uh, did OKC write the ship? Uh, you know, have they taken control? Everything uh back to status quo for them after that win last night against Denver. Yeah. Well, I wouldn’t go quite that far because Denver got blown out by the Clippers, too, if you remember in game three in LA and then came back and won. Now the series shifting to Denver. What I’ll say, what I’ve seen in that series is Oklahoma City has been utterly dominant. They just happen to have a bad Yeah. four minutes at the wrong time in game one. So, you know, I think that they’re in control. Oklahoma City certainly, you know, this is a bad matchup for Denver in the sense that Oklahoma City’s just so deep and they keep running guys in and out of the game, whereas Denver obviously, you know, goes about six, seven deep max and that’s where the problems are going to be as this series goes on. But you know the Nuggets have Jokic. They have the experience. Their core has won a championship. So it’s going to be very interesting to see what happens here in Denver. Sam AMO with us from Hoopsswire. I want to ask you a Kings question here. Do you think should uh should Kings fans be happy with the hirings of BJ Armstrong, assistant GM, and Mike Woodson as assistant coach? Yeah. Well, first of all, w with Mike Woodson, I think absolutely should be thrilled because you do have a younger head coach in terms of experience and Doug Christie. Mike Woodson has seen it all. Obviously played for the Kings, but he’s he’s seen it all. You know, he’s coached at the NBA level before. He’s coached in New York. It was much like the Lakers hiring Nate McMillan, right? you bring in an experienced voice, a guy who’s seen it all, been through it all and and has had success and, you know, is a guy who’s very well respected in the NBA circles, uh, in my voice. And so I think that’s going to benefit you immensely in helping Doug Christie who did a nice job but I think that this is you know this is just a veteran ear or a veteran boy and um BJ Armstrong I think that’s in wildly uh cool because I was a big fan of the podcast that he was on and Scott Perry was on that of course all the time too. In fact, I told those guys, I’ve actually talked to them and said, “That was the best podcast out there. Now, what am I gonna listen to?” I’m sure. You know, I I I think that they both have The reason I like that is because they they just had so much insight and I liked what they were saying about the game and the way that they would approach things if they ran a team. So, I think that Kings fans, yes, should be very excited to have those two men in the front office because um again, both have been around the game a long time. BJ of course as a as a champion and uh I I think that you know so often and I’ve seen it so often this year in Cleveland I you could see just how the change of culture can lead to so much positivity even when you’re not supposed to finish you know in a top say five or six seed in the playoffs. You look what Cleveland did a and some of these other teams what Indiana’s doing. It’s really so much is is established by the front office. So I think in that sense the Kings are in a very good place. Awesome. Oh, I like like to hear that Sam. Now that’s the front office. That’s the coaching staff. What about the actual roster? You know, we we’ve been spitballing here, potential trade proposals for a Zion or a J or whoever it may be out there. What do you make of uh the Kings players and their value around the league? And could the Kings swing for any big fish out there with those guys? Yeah, you know, they do have an interesting roster and I think that that’s going to be something that they’re going to explore. You know, a lot of teams are going to, but you look at, okay, you know, is Giannis and Giannis Antunko and and Zion Williamson. These are guys that we’re hearing. Well, maybe they’re going to be available. I I would say probably Zion Williamson more than than Giannis because of the injury issues and and uh you know Milwaukee is Giannis onto Toopa or vice versa. Yeah. So do the Kings have enough players or or or assets I guess you would say is Yeah. I mean obviously if you’re going to if you’re going to get somebody like that you’re going to you know theoretically obviously nothing more than rumor and speculation. There’s nothing to any of this, but that would mean that would cost you a sabonus. So, as well as some other pieces. So, yeah, the interest would be there. It’s just if you’re the Kings, how is Scott Perry going to approach this? You know, do you go the route of an Indiana Pacers or Cleveland Cavaliers where it’s like, you know what, we’re just keeping it together and then going to see what happens. And a lot of times we see familiarity can breed success. these guys with Lavine uh being, you know, acquired at the trade deadline and some of these other pieces, they’re kind of still new, right? So, I I I think that we saw some some signs and flashes of this group being able to potentially get to another level. So, maybe you don’t mess with it. You know, the one thing I always say about trades, you have all the way until February. there’s no need to panic and do it before the season because all that matters is that you’re playing well at your best after the all-star break. So, I think that there’s enough interest in Kings players maybe and those things if they need to swing now and make a splash if they feel the need to do that. But I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s, hey, let’s run it back for a little bit, see how it goes, and then we can make our move, you know, until the before the February trade deadline if things aren’t going as well as we hope. You need to be uh keeping track of him if you’re not already if you’re a basketball fan. Senior NBA writer from Hoopsswire, Sam Amo. Sam, thank you for your time. We appreciate it. Uh enjoy the games. We’ll talk to you again soon. All right, guys. Thanks for having me. Very welcome. Yeah. Yeah, man. Uh when we come back, does that make any sense? Is running it back a viable option for your Sacramento kids? What is Sam Amigo talking about? Trey, it’s next here with the drive guys sackown sports. I don’t know. Drakes, you know, came in today confused about everything going on in the NBA playoffs with the road teams winning so often. We figure Sam Ama will come on, help us better understand what’s going on. And he had no idea and he knows what he’s talking about. I’m not going after Sam. Appreciate his time. Yep. Then he leaves. I don’t know about you, but me even more confused as he’s on his way out. Maybe the Kings run it back. See you guys. What in the world? How you feeling about that? I one of the things I’d figured, well, we know they’re not doing that. Is that on the board as well now? Run it back. See if maybe the veterans that you have, they haven’t quite played enough together to reach their peak level. Ah, do you So, you think we’ve seen enough? I think so. 20 games or 30 game, whatever it was, Zack Lavine played. Yeah. Here. I mean, I can see how you keep parts of it, keep this guy and that guy or whatever. But the team as it was last year, just, you know, uh, do some touching up around the edges, but bring back the core. I to me that was that was off my board. 32 games with Zack Lavine. Yeah. Enough. Mhm. I know a lot of NBA people say you need what, 20, 25 games to know what’s what. Okay. How are you feeling? I don’t know. I I I I’m I’m torn, man, because I we need a point guard. To get a point guard, I think we’re going to probably have to make like a move of some sort in in terms of trade. Can you add a point guard and still have Demar, Zack, and Dom, and it succeed? We never really got to see them with a point guard. Let’s call it what it is. even with Malik that Malik’s not, you know, naturally a point guard. That’s not his a position he’s most accustomed to. And so I feel the 32 games that we saw weren’t necessarily a true reflection of what they could be. I’m not saying running back for sure. I mean, yeah, you know, look out there, see what’s out there, but in terms of have we seen the whole picture of what these guys can be, I’m not sure about that. H I’m not 100% sure. What concerns me about what you just said from a fan standpoint, not from, you know, trying to figure out what’s best, but just as a fan, we’re all assuming, I’ll speak for myself, I’m assuming there’s a very good chance that tomorrow is elsewhere and maybe he wants to be. I think a lot of people are assuming that, but the name you mentioned that I worry about again from a fan standpoint, what if they look at things and the best way to get where they want to get to is to move Malik. And I think that would be really difficult for fans. And again, I’m not saying it’s a smart basketball move or not, but you know, they’re looking at everything and that would be difficult for fans. I think it would be difficult initially, but what are we getting back? Sure, it’s all about what we get back, you know? Uh, I think honestly if we’re calling it what it is, which I try to do on this show, I think the view of Malik today is a little bit different than it was a year ago this time. A year ago this time, we got to bring back we can’t survive without he’s our number one priority. Now, I think some people might have turned on him a little bit. I I think some, you know, he’s obviously, you know, the heart and soul of the team, a Sacramento guy, he’s asked to do more than he’s ever been asked to do. Exactly. Exactly. But if if I’m the fan base and I’m I’m and if I’m the the ownership group and management, are you married to anybody? It may be hard to swallow. Yes. But that don’t mean hell, we traded Tyrese Hallebertton Whitey. Mhm. Tyrese. People cried over that. People were upset over that. If it’s to build a better basketball team, if it moves us forward, I don’t know if anybody’s untrustable. I understand. I’m not saying that. I’m just saying it would be difficult because he’s so popular. But you’ve got Lavine, you’ve got D. Roz, and you’ve got Malik. Those are three guys that, and Malik is a good point guard. Maybe he’s not as good as I thought he was, but they they need the ball to be effective. they’re not great defenders. Um, so you’ve got some redundancy there and that’s no one’s fault. It’s just other than, you know, maybe whoever put the roster together, it’s like you have too much of this one thing. So some of that probably has to go and it’s maybe I’m just, you know, talking to myself here. I’d kind of been assuming it’s going to be tomorrow, but maybe, you know, maybe Malik is something that would be of more value. I just I think that’d be difficult for fans, but I’m not arguing with you that depending on who you get back, it might be a smart move. Yeah. And and I understand why it would be difficult for fans. I I get that part, but I’m of the belief when you’re Scott Perry and you’re BJ Armstrong, you don’t have that relationship. You don’t have that relationship with the league and you you know, you say that about just about anybody, right? Yeah, you know, it’s a real important factor, you know, and players are just like coaches, assistants, front, you know, front office. When somebody’s new in, it’s like, all right, where do I stand with this new person, with this new boss? And if you want to stay here, you’ll state your case, you know, but I don’t think anybody should feel, oh, got Scott Perry, we’re definitely safe here. I think these guys understand Scott’s coming here, I think, to shake some things up. Yeah, that’s probably for the better, right? You know, it’s good for everyone. You don’t want people feel like they’re on scholarship or tenure. Yeah. When the team hasn’t been playing well overall. See, but let me ask you this though, too, as we continue this conversation because something just popped into my head, if they traded Domas, would that hurt too, fan-wise, you think? Yeah. for some I think you know you see what people are sharing with us in the chat and on the text line. Um it’s more split on Domas than I remember seeing it. Not I’m not saying it’s 50/50 but there’s a few more people I think that are would be willing to move off of him. I asked that because I I think but there’s a pizza guy. Probably only two players Whitey that fans aren’t connected to on this team and that’s Zack and Demar. Yeah. And so, Kings fans, we might have to take the emotion out of this if we truly want to get to where we want to go and be a champion. You know, this is professional sports. Oh, we know that, right? Hell, we traded Darren Fox like we they traded Jason Williams, JJ Will, and they brought in a good player for him. Yeah. C Web. I mean, you know, we’ve traded a number, you know, because like so many players over the years and so Scott Perry and BJ have to take the emotion out of it also, right? Hell, we just saw Nico trade Luca Donuch. Horrible trade. We We all agree probably. But if Luca can get traded as a fan base, we got to say, look at Mike. Why is Mike Bby calling me? Can I take this right now? Yeah. Uh Mike Bby calling me. Hold on here. Hold up. I can’t come on with you guys. Mike, what’s up, baby? I’m I’m I’m on the air right now. What’s going on? Mike Baby is supposed to be on with us today at about 3. All right. So, yeah. 3:15. Yeah. Text me when you get there. All right. Okay. All right. All right. Cool. Moving him back. Yeah, we got to move him back. He He’s on his way back to his hotel and and he’ll text us when he’s in his house. We got real estate. I know. All right. I was afraid he’s going to post uh pony the whole thing. N he’s in his car driving somewhere and he you know in transition and so you ever listen to the Joe Buddton podcast Jay sometime. You ever hear when Joe Button just randomly call people? Yes. And then throw him on the air. We should do that. We should That’s what I thought about Mike Bby right there. You know, you got to let him know Mike, we on the air right now. Oh yeah. And uh but that that’s made me thinking. Hasn’t Em kind of done that a couple times? Called in. Yeah, but Emmer’s got the built in stuff. Yeah. See, one thing about that is when he’s calling somebody like he call who’ you say Dan is when he call, hey, you want to come on? John Taylor. Yeah. But what I what I’m saying is this. You know those guys, right? Like he has super tight relationships. Yeah. I’m talking about always answer when he calls. Yeah. I’m talking about guys that you you you know, but you don’t 100% know, right? And you’re like, “Hey, let’s do something right now.” Mhm. See those guy that’s like me calling you, hey Whitey man, you’re on air real quick. You you going to run with it. You know after you might say come on Jay, what happened? Or whatever the case may be. Yeah. See though that’s built in family but that might bad on me you whitey. Like what if I call somebody yo this drapes whose drapes you know like you know what I mean? But I don’t know if I want to put myself about it. That’s the thing is it’s you know real life. Remember during co real fast fellas remember it was like who who’s the most famous person or the biggest celebrity or you know who in your phone and then it would build from there. Or remember they had the pyramid calls where it was I would call you, you call me, we would all call each other. Like there’s still something there to that. Okay, let’s uh gota build on that quite what you’re talking about, but you reminded me of a story. We I was at a station um around 2010 where they ran a contest where they they told listeners if you can get a famous person to call into the show, you could win a prize. So, whoever it is, more famous, the better your chance to win. So, the day after Matt Kane pitched his perfect game, we got Matt Kane on. So, we’re talking to Matt Kane and then David Price calls cuz somebody got him to call and we couldn’t take the call. We’re going to take David Price like sorry we’re talking to Matt Kane. So, we did not take the call. Some listener got David Price to call and you know David Price was a big that’s pretty big name. Sorry we we can’t get if it was if it was during a different month or something would who would have uh superseded like would David Price have been ahead of Matt Kane but just because the timing was Matt Kane hot time low and we were you know that wasn’t part of the contest he had just thrown a perfect game so somebody I think somebody got like E40 or somebody to call Oh that’s pretty good. Yeah and I think I like that. I like that idea. We’re going to have to try that. Who could think that’s too well? Yeah. Poor David Price. You can imagine who could get in. You couldn’t even push it 10 minutes down the road. And he was like, “Nah, I could only do it right now.” Left him on hold. Yeah. Hold on, David. Give us about 10 minutes. You cold bloody was you and who else? Phantom. Uh, no. It wasn’t Phantom. Okay. Kriedler. The Criedbot. I got you. Yeah. And Dibbly. Uh, so Mike’s going to join us top of the hour. When we come back, n he’s going to join us sometime. Sometime. At the top of the hour, is Buddy Healed about to become what the Kings thought he could be? You all right with that? You okay over there? I’m okay, man. I’m good. Next on Sackown Sports, this is the story of the one. I buddy healed not only knocking down threes but being praised for his defense also a two-way player. What? That’s the one. Yeah. Yeah. So, that series resumes game two tonight. 5:30 our time. Uh the Warriors and the Timberwolves. Of course, uh Warriors took the first game. It’s almost like uh they’re playing with house money tonight, huh? I mean, obviously. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It It’s game three that they got to win, you know, tonight. If they lose that series, even up at one, they go come back home uh this weekend. That’s the one you got to win. Yeah. So, I wonder tonight, among other things, how much they’re going to rely on Buddy Healed shooting. And I was thinking, you know, Steph Curry’s out. Yep. Um there was a time when the Kings got Buddy Healed apparently because they thought he could be the next Steph Curry. And I looked it up. This was from February 20th, 2017. This is from Baxter Holmes on on then Twitter and this was right after the trade. Demarcus to New Orleans. Buddy Heield comes here. Backter Holmes says, “Source familiar with the King’s thinking. Quote, VC thinks Buddy has Steph Curry potential. I’m told that fixation was a key driver in the deal.” I know that’s all water under the bridge, but it’s just funny to me now because if it was ever going to happen where Buddy Heel was anything like Steph Curry, the Warriors need it to happen tonight. Yeah, they they need a big game from him. uh he’s been the difference game seven and in game one uh of this series and now especially without Steph who’s going to score for you like you know I understand Jimmy Butler maybe resorts back to Miami Jimmy Butler but you need some outside shooting you need they need 20 plus I think from Buddy Hill where else are they going to get it from wedding Quinton Post Moses Moody Moses Moody Quinton Post Kaminga you know I I don’t know and so I I I think shout out to Jimmy Butler. They’ve empowered Buddy. Like they’ve unlocked something in Buddy. And that’s that warrior system, man. It’s like guys are better than what they are in that system. You know what I mean? Take a guy like Draymond Green, future Hall of Famer. Don’t want to knock him, but I don’t know if he becomes this if he goes to, you know, Charlotte or Orlando or some other team. You know, it’s like that they maximize. He might not even play. He might be out of the league. Can’t shoot threes. might be out of the league, but they maximize who they like Pajki, you know, Pajimski is a solid, very good NBA player. Quinton Post helped them win games this year. And so, uh, they’ve done a fantastic job. And so, you’re right. I’m watching those guys warm up right now in Minnesota. Um, but he’s got to be big for them. If I’m not mistaken, last summer when the Warriors supposedly were talking with Utah about um, uh, about Larry Markin. Yeah. One of the things the warriors were saying was, “Oh, Pajamski is untouchable. We don’t know if that’s true, but you remember those reports?” Oh. Oh, yeah. I do remember that. Yeah. Pajki? No, we’re not. I don’t know about all that. Yeah, I don’t know about all that. I’d be tempted to say that Buddy Heel will not get as many open looks without Steph on the floor. But he got a lot of open looks and he buried him in the last game where Steph was injured. That That was a poor Minnesota defense, right? like like they got open looks. Yeah, I understand when Steph Curry’s out there, the gravity that he pulls, the attention, but if Steph’s out there, just man up. You ain’t got to help on nobody. You ain’t got to sag off. You’re right. Just man up. Play straight up. But you remember Oklahoma Buddy He? Yes. That’s when I became a fan of Buddy He at Oklahoma. I was a big fan of Buddy Heel in Oklahoma. And so, you know, I’m not surprised to see him rise to the moment because I’ve seen him in college. What was it? Against Kansas, I think where he dropped 45 or 50 or something like that. Like this dude, he has it, but he’s become a punchline around here for some reason. Some of the, you know, but they embrace that side of him. Like, how do you enter a game with the wrong shorts on, right? But yet still perform at the high level that he That’s a great point. Let’s say, and he never did that. Let’s say he’d done that here. People say, “Oh my god, Kings.” Yep. But he does it there. It’s like, “Oh, buddy.” Buddy Hill. Right. Right. You’re 100% right, man. It’s um you know, and I know he said what he said about Sacramento. I I thought and he was here a long time before I got here and so I understand the fans frustration, but I used to always say this about he had a lot of big moments in Sacramento, too. He had some gamewinners. I understand he had some turnovers, some late game miscues, all that. but he also had some big uh uh time shots for Sacramento. And so um I I I thought he sort of got a the reputation sort of uh was was off when it came down. Jay and I talked about him a lot on Monday and we didn’t really obviously would get your perspective on it, but I think the conclusion if we came to one was that when Buddy was here, he was just never as good as he thought he was and he was never really worth the money that they paid him and he thought he should have gotten more and in some ways he became his own worst enemy and he was dissatisfied here and he was also far too uh forthcoming when it came to the media and this is what they’re offering me and that’s an insult, you know, and people around the league said you don’t negotiate in public, you don’t gain anything, neither does the team. So, he kind of um you know, like I said, was his own worst enemy here, but then, you know, he had to he got traded to Indiana, Philadelphia, now the Warriors, and it’s like a reset of his expectations and what he’s getting paid, and it just seems like he’s in a much better place. Well, and I’m going to give that uh to your boy, a lot of credit to your boy Steve Kirk for that. You know, we talk all the time about coaching and how it’s not just X’s and O’s. It’s about managing people. And I think Steve Kerr does an excellent job for the most part at man letting people be who they are. And you know, even the way he handled that, you know, Buddy Healed, Steph Curry thing during the regular season when Buddy looked off Steph a couple of times, you know, that could have been Buddy sit down, get over, you know, instead the way he communicated talking about Steve Curt Buddy healed. And so, um, they found something, man. They found something in him. And uh you know when they started off the season you know on fire it was Buddy Healed that was you know really and then you know they tailed back a little bit but he’s a great shooter. We know that Whitey and he fits in perfectly with that system. I know Paul Pierce said before game two of the Boston Knicks series he said I’ll walk to work if the Celtics lose. And I saw today that it looked like he might have but you know he might have just walked little ways on on his phone and then got driven to the next part. But I would almost be willing to say I’ll walk to work tomorrow if the uh Timberwolves lose that game. But I have no reason. You said almost. Tell them, Jay. I have no reason to do that. I have nothing to gain. Why bring it up then? Why break it up? Because that’s just a way of me saying I would be shocked if the Warriors win this game tonight. How about Oh, I’m off tomorrow. I was about to say, how about bringing lunch or something like that for drinks? But see, that doesn’t make sense. I don’t gain anything. Why would I do that? You can’t win. You might have to bring me lunch. Why would Paul Pierce do that, right? It’s like Pierce, if the Celtics win, what do you gain? You know, it’s like I told you that’s about it, you know? So, uh, did you see some people say it was real? He really walked. Oh, talking about Paul Pierce. Yeah, it was I think it ended up being 20 miles cuz he said at first 15 miles something and then I think they looked it up. Somebody looked up said it’s actually 20 miles. Oh, I don’t know. Mike Bby texted he’s ready. Just so you know. Okay. How do we want to approach this, Jay? All right. I I’ll tell him. Give me three. Give him five minutes. Yeah. Call you in five. Tell him if David Price waited, you could. Right. Right. Yeah. Coach. Oh, that’s hilarious. Put coach in the capital. Yeah. So, you think the Warriors got a even a puncher chance tonight? Because I don’t see it. They shouldn’t, but I I’m not sold on Minnesota. Like, I understand Ant’s great. Randall, like something looked off in game one. You mentioned Ant not maybe looking 100%. Uh looking a little, you know, walking around gingerly out there or whatever. I don’t know, man. I I I I think the Warriors system is giving Minnesota problems because you know what wanty the Lakers are a lot of iso ball. That played right into Minnesota’s hands. As we know, Golden State’s not. So, I feel like their system gives Minnesota some uh I I’ll put it 6040 tonight in favor of Minnesota. Okay. Like I think it’s gonna be close. I go like 8515. Oo, we’ll find out. Okay. Uh and I think Minnesota’s it’s incumbent upon them to make a statement similar to what OKC last night. It was impressive. That was impressive. That was and and you know to Sam Amico’s uh point I do feel like OKC’s control this series outside of the last four minutes in game one like they should really be up two zero and you know and so they find themselves at one like they responded the way the Celtics should have responded Cleveland should have you know they handled their business. Yeah. The one thing I don’t like about these playoffs, they’ve been great, but it seems like every game you could almost go to any game that’s been played and afterwards there’s somebody on both teams talking about they foul all the time. Oh yeah. Complaining about the physicality and all that. It’s and and here’s the crazy thing in that um the series that you know Warriors Timberwolves both sides are complaining right yeah you know it’s like come on guys come on yeah uh when we come back Mike Bby head coach SAK state men’s team going to ask Mike among other things about his time with new Kings assistant coach Mike Woodson so that more with Mike Bby coming up next with the drive guys on Sacktown sports Hey everyone, it’s Kyle Draper here. Your afternoon home for King’s Talk and so much more. The drive guys on Sack Town Sports. Yeah. So, you know the drill. Got Doug Christie coaching the Kings. And looks like Bobby Jackson is going to return to coach the Kings. Allegedly. Looks like it. I said looks like it. No, but I put the allegedly in there for our next guest, uh, head coach men’s basketball at SAK State in addition to be, of course, Kings legend Mike Bby. How are you, coach? I’m doing good. How are you? We’re good. Thank you so much for your time. Go. I I know you’re busy, man. I know your schedule. Just tell me about your schedule since you’ve taken over at Stack State. Is it Is it as busy as you expected or even more so? I think it’s it’s busy more busy than I expect. It hasn’t stopped. Um we’ve been just going through recruiting. We have like the last three three weeks we’ve been doing a lot of recruiting, having vis official visit. So, I mean, we’re we’re doing a good job. I think we’ve hit the ground running. You know, we’re we’re making a lot of moves and you know, we’re almost we’re almost to the full point of having our 15 kids. Mike or coach, pardon me. How exciting is it to see everything coming together with your basketball program. How exciting is Shaq’s involvement? It’s a lot. It’s really It’s really uh good. I I just called him. I called him one day, you know what? I’m gonna ask I see all these general manager stuff going around. Let’s see, you know, let me ask him see if he’ll do it. and and I just asked him and he was like, “Yeah, I like the idea. Let me let me know what it entails and then we’ll go from there.” So, I mean, it was that it was that quick of a conversation and it was a done deal. You know, I mean, he wants to help this program and, you know, his son’s on the team and, you know, kind of put our, you know, we put our we put our problems to the side. They weren’t really problems, but uh, you know, I mean, we’re we’re a team now. Yeah. So you’re laughing, Drapes. But for people Kings fans who saw that series, there’s still a little bit of a wait a minute. Shaq and Bivby. Yeah. Yeah. And the way he talked about Sacramento and everything. Oh, come on, Mike. But I get it. Let bygones be bygones. When you say, you know, you bringing Shaq on as GM, what does that entail? How can he help the program? I mean, he I’m going let him do whatever he wants to do, Kyle. That’s Tequille O’Neal. if he feels like he wants to throw some water, put some water in cups for us and that’s what he wants to do, he he’s welcome to do it. So, I mean, we’re going to put him in situations where he, you know, where he could try to make this program successful. We’re working on a few things um inside the program that he’s helping with a lot that’s going to, you know, that’s going to turn a lot of things around for us. Well, Mike, we we know you’re really busy. uh Drapes had the idea to see if we could get you on here with uh Mike Woodson becoming Doug’s lead assistant since you played for him I think I think about three years in Atlanta one season in New York. What can you tell us what kind of assistant is Doug Christie getting in Mike Woodson? He uh outside of I mean he’s probably the favorite co my best my favorite coach I’ve had. Not as far as um like there was I mean Adam and Woodson are up there as my two favorite coaches, but um Woodson just all around, you know, like I said, I play a different role when I went when I went to his um to his team. And you know, like he kind of leaned on me for the guys and stuff like that. So, he’s going to get a players coach and you know, the guys look up to him. You know, he’s he’s a great man outside of basketball and he I mean, he just he’ll make you laugh, that’s for sure. He’s he’s an amusing guy. He done a lot of stuff with us to shaved his eyebrows off when we were there. Um, a lot a lot of stuff was going on that he that he’s going to keep the the locker room light. He might get I know you told the story on your podcast uh podcast straight game podcast. Uh, tell me about the eyebrow situation again. Like what happened there? I still don’t even know what the real story is. Um, we just came to a game. We were in Houston and he um he had you know the things that you take the little dry marker eraser. Yeah. Dry marker up on the board. He had those I don’t know if they were taped to his eyebrows like he we came in with this tape. So everybody’s like what the hell’s going on? And I like I said I don’t know the real story but he I mean if you can go back and look Mike Woodson with no eyebrows you’ll find it on you’ll find it on Google. It’s on there. One of the things that we’ve heard about, Coach Woodson, is that um I think this Ian Begley telling us this. He’s Well, you found it. I found a picture. You got to post that. Yeah, we got to No, no, I can’t do that to my guy Mike Witson. No. Oh, this is hilarious. There’s a big story. This was 2010. All right. Sorry about that. I see the pictures here. Oh my god. Uh yeah. I mean, like I said, I still don’t know the real story, but I mean, say you’re getting a great guy. You know, just like I said, even outside of basketball, you’re going to get a good coach and you’re going to get a good guy that cares. He really cares about the kids that are playing. Uh Ian Begley told us, Coach Woodson’s very straightforward with the players and doesn’t shy away from telling the truth to players even when it’s not pleasant. Would you would you agree with that? Yeah, he he holds the guys accountable, that’s for sure. It doesn’t matter who he’s going with. And I think you need that in a coach. You know, he’s not he’s not shy to even go out the best player. You know, there’s times when um we’re in film in New York and he you know, he said stuff to Carmel that a lot I know a lot of coaches wouldn’t have said. I mean, it was nothing vulgar or nothing like that. It was just like holding him accountable and like, you know, what is this right here, Melo? A lot of people, a lot of coaches wouldn’t do that. Mike, uh uh coach, excuse me. you know today’s NBA players, you understand them. How much do you think with Doug Christie now being the head coach here in Sacramento? How much do you think is X’s and O’s in today’s game versus having a relationship of your players, you look up Mike Woodson, right? I know eyebrows. I’m sorry. Back you you you’re the one that told us to do it. But how how much do you think is just, you know, the relationship with the players and getting the players to play hard for you? I mean, you already know how I feel about Doug getting that job call. I thought they should have gave it to him way before before they even gave it to him. You know, congratulations to Doug and, you know, bringing Bobby back. That’s what happens and getting a good coach and coach Woodson. But, uh, I think I think that it’s more than the X’s X’s and O’s now as far as, you know, being able to to be able to talk to these kids and, uh, because it’s a different, it’s a different era now. I mean, before you had veterans on the team that could do that and now, now it’s more I mean, you got some veterans on team still, but Morris now, you know, can not baby these kids, but kind of talk to them where they feel comfortable and then go out and play for you. They’re going to play hard for Doug anyway. Doug plays the game and Doug is very passionate about the team and the players. So, they’re going to go play hard for him regardless. Um, coach, you probably have heard this. Sounds like you’ve heard a lot of stories on it, but Michael Cunningham, Hawks beat reporter for the journal Constitution. He on Twitter said that Mike Woodson’s barber accidentally took a big chunk out of one of the eyebrows. So, he went ahead and shaved them both. But it sounds like maybe you’ve heard a number of different stories or you’re not sure what the real story is. I haven’t heard like I haven’t heard any stories. I just was wondering what happened. I mean you hear I mean you just hear the guys talking and stuff but I mean I would have to leave one eyebrow and just let people know it was a mistake instead of just cutting both off. It’s going to grow back, right? I mean just give it like a week and you’ll be fine, coach. Right. Yeah. Yeah. But you when you cut two off, it’s kind of like you did it on purpose. And I don’t know. I don’t I don’t know. I don’t know. Um, what kind of identity do you think uh Coach Christie and and Scott Perry will will try to establish and be able to to establish with the Kings this year? I I know with Doug Doug, like I said, these kids are going to play hard for Doug. And you know, I think Doug did a great job halfway through the season getting the job and then getting the face of your franchise traded and then having another superstar come in to have to adapt to that with another superstar in Demar D Rose. And so I think Greg uh Doug did a great job on being able to handle that situation. I said I’m I’m glad he got that that spot and bringing a bringing a former King guy in to do that. The fans are gonna love that. You know, Mike, we we had uh I forget who said it. Uh we had on as a guest yesterday. I think it was yesterday, guys. Uh refresh my memory. But he said, “Oh, no, it might have been Tim Roy actually about how, you know, Golden State uh you know, was a place where once you know, new ownership came in, once things changed, it was a a place ready to explode.” How do you feel Sacramento is as a basketball market in and Kings market? Do you feel like this place, especially with SAK State now, this city’s ready to explode? I think so. I mean, they’ve always, like I said, that the fans are one of the reasons why I came wanted to come here, too. And I think that they’re just waiting for a reason, you I mean, I think, you know, the Kings break out, Sacramento State basketball breaks out, you know, tax state football breaks out and I think it’s just going to be a wild town and everybody’s waiting for that. I think we could bring that to them. Mike, as uh I was saying when we brought you on, of course, you got uh Coach Christy now. You’re at SAK State. Looks like Bobby Jackson is going to be back. Did you ever imagine something like that happening when you guys were all teammates? Think of what? That that you guys would all be Yeah. No, I I I didn’t, you know, I I I didn’t expect to I wanted to coach, but you never know where you’ll end up. You know, you just look for situations to where guys can bring in, you could learn. You know, I’m still learning now. Just being in situations to where you could keep excelling, keep pushing yourself. And so, like I said, I wouldn’t have wanted to start my career off coaching anywhere else. You know, it’s like a dream come true just to be back here and have all these people and fans behind us waiting for us to do the job. Hey, coach, uh, tell me about recruiting. I I know you got a a stud in Mikey Williams. You got several other guys who have committed. What’s that been like for you? It’s it’s tough. You know, my staff is doing a great job and I get about, you know, I was getting about 30 to 40 videos on kids every day for, you know, like a month. And you know, I didn’t I couldn’t get a chance to look at them. You know, I I I passed it to my to my staff and like, “Hey, look at these guys. Tell them what you think.” And then, you know, obviously I make the final decision, but for them to look through everybody and you know, over 200 kids in a in a month. I mean, you got to you got to give the thumbs up to those guys that are on my staff and, you know, I thank them and, you know, you could look at them as far as putting help putting this team together. Are you so busy now, coach, that you won’t have time to give Kyle Draper any lessons on the golf course? All right. Matter of fact, I’m in golfing today, Kyle. I missed you out there. And you Hey, hit me up. A I didn’t feel like hearing no excuses. I’mma make sure I’mma make sure that when I get back here and I got my clubs and I invite you out that you’re ready to go. Let Let me Let me say this. Let me go on record right now in front of my co-host, in front of producer Jay, because last time we played, I had to dip out early for this radio show. Mike, I will come in late to the radio show to finish 18 holes with you so we can have a true test, a true matchup. I’m not leaving early, so I’m going to come in late for work just to golf with you. So, let me let me tell me let me tell them the first part of that story, Kyle, since everybody since we’re telling stories, let me tell you the first part. So, I didn’t start out too hot there. You know, he’s up on me by, you know, four, four or five strokes. Yeah. Coming down the end, I’m cutting off one or two strokes to hole. All a sudden, Kyle looks at his watch and says, “Oh, I got to go to work. I I can’t finish.” And just leave. I mean, there was no warning. Dude, that was through 14 holes. I might not But but there was no, hey, I might not be able to finish today. You know, when I started to come back, then it was more like, “Hey guys, I gotta go. I gota work. I gotta go do the job.” So that would have been like warning, no nothing. So I want to make sure that you can play a full 18 when you come on next time, Kyle. Please. So coach, that would have been like the Celtics last night midway through the fourth quarter just going, “Hey, I’m sorry. We got to go. Sorry. I think Kyle’s is a little worse.” Hey, all I say is Mike, you wouldn’t have come back. You were down by like eight or nine strokes with four left. There’s no way you were coming back. Come on. this guy ready. It It was about 4 cuz you cuz I could see you say you started scrumming. I didn’t get any warning. It It was just like, “Hey, I got to go. I got to go. I got to go get myself.” Hey, we we may we may have to have a match like you know they do on uh you know with Payton Manning and Tom Brady on the Mike Bby versus Drapes on the golf course. I’m down to do that. I’m down for that. Yeah, I could do that. No problem. There’ll be probably a a camera crew following us around this year, so we might be able to get on the camera and have it on the show somewhere. Nice. Nice. Coach, thank you so much. We always appreciate it. Know you’re busy. No problem. Thank you for having me on. All right, Mike. We’ll talk to you, man. Put it over there, Coach Mike. Baby, good stuff, man. Here’s the thing, too, Whitey. And it’s just him. Everybody we talk about regarding Mike Woodson says it’s a slam dunk higher. That eyebrow thing. That’s a whole new when we talk to Do we got to bring that up? We got like coach, what the hell happened with your eyebrows? You know, that’s one you got to kind of see how it’s going, right? See how you know if he comes in and he’s official I’m the coach now and then hey guys then you know, right? You’ve done interviews. You got you got to warm them up though for sure. feel them out like you said. You see why I laughed when I saw that? Yes, that’s a very funny picture. Oh, that’s funny. We’ll have to post that. Yeah, got to post. Uh-huh. Yeah. When we come back, uh, we’ll look at what Mike Bby had to say. Interesting story about Shaq and what has happened to homecourt advantage. I think we have the answer. We’ll share that with you when we come back. Drive, guys. Sackown sports. Visit sackdownsports.com and join the Sackdown Sports 11:40 newsletter. Sacramento weather is brought to you by Fidium Fiber. Thanks to Mike Bby for joining us. Coach Mike Bby. Yes, Coach Mike Bby. I just um posted on my ex account that the Yahoo story. So, you can look it up yourself or Yeah. And it’s interesting cuz Mike said he wasn’t sure what happened, but I guess he’d never heard the real story. The barber said, “You think uh Woody went with the, you know, clean look and I guess the barber just got a little too overzealous there. Whoops. Got a little your eyebrow there, coach. Poor Mike Witson. He just said, “Ah, just take it.” Yeah, there’s tons of Woody stories out there, man. I can’t wait to hear some more of uh him. Uh got to get him on the show. And uh Yes. Tomorrow we’ll have I believe tomorrow we’ll have Jerry on. Yeah. Jerry Reynolds. Yeah. Jerry used to coach Mike Witson here. Yes. First year in Sacramento. What? Yeah, I remember talking to him. Was he on the list or he was? If not, he was on that, you know, coveted honorable mention. Honorable mention just because of short short time. Very short time. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, yeah, we should probably get Eddie Johnson on too. Eddie probably talk about him. Eddie Johnson’s the man. I love Eddie Johnson. He’ll tell it like it is. He keeps it real. In the text line here, you know, our listeners keeping it uh real. Yeah. Um, I love Monk from the 707 seed of all knowledge and wisdom. Love Monk, but he was a downfall. He’s undersized. Not very good defensively. Paired next to Fox was a bad move. I think the move is Monk and Rosen. We also have from the 209. Kings need to go out grab a young point guard. Their target should be Jay Ivy. They already have Cade, which could make him available. What do you guys think from the 209? I’m high on Jaden Ivy, but not as our point guard. I don’t think he’s a point guard. Yeah. I just And yeah, I don’t think Detroit’s going to be in any hurry as you point out 209 to Oh, we have K. Let’s get rid of J. Yeah. No, he he he’s a young because when you look at Detroit, they got some veteran guys on the wings. The Tobias, Tim Hardway Jr., you know, uh, Beasley, guys that have been around. Ivy’s a young guy. Like, I think Ivy is the future for that team. the present we saw was Hardway and Beasley and some of those guys. I think they’re still hoping Ivy uh can can be part of their future going forward. He was injured this past season towards the end of the season. I do know that some people and you might be Winnham Drapes have pointed out that maybe Detroit would be a good fit for Demar Rozan and I don’t remember if you said that or not but you might have. I’m trying to think. Did I say that? I don’t know. They need veteran scoring if they need to add that element to their team. H I don’t think so. I I don’t quite see it myself, but they also got Tobias Harris, too. Yeah. And they got uh Sar Thompson, like, you know, I think they’re pretty set at the wing spot, you know what I mean? And so I I I think, like I said, Orlando definitely should be in the mix. Miami definitely should be in the mix. Those are the two teams. And from the 916, Dom can go for the right trade. He gets schooled in the playoffs anyway. Damn. It’s like that a little bit, I think, more than it used to be. But I still think overall I think most people would say, “No, we love Dom. Keep him here.” Yeah. Yeah. I think I think with Domas, he’s a guy that you sort of build around also. He’s not the one A, he’s not the alpha, but if he’s your starting power four, that’s pretty damn good. That’s pretty good, Tomomas. Yeah. So, you’re saying they need a center? If you could find one, if a Miles Turner or somebody like that or maybe a Bobby Portoris and you pair them at the four and five, like I think he needs some size alongside of him. I know we talked about this. Scott Perry once when he was with the Knicks, he signed Bobby Poris as a free agent. So, I’d like to think there’s a connection there. Maybe. Got to get Scott Perry on. Gotta get him on. He went on with the morning show. Oh, did he? But they didn’t talk about anything really. They Hey, you know, they’re lobbing softballs left and right. What do you think about Sacramento? Any new any favorite restaurants yet and all that, man? We trying to get down to the meat and potatoes of it. Yeah, I thought they did a good job. But yeah, I wouldn’t mind. I wouldn’t mind. Yeah. Having Scott Perry on, get Mike Woodson on. Get uh BJ Armstrong on. Right. We could do that. Yeah. In the meantime, what you going to call? No. I’m like, “Let me see. Do I have BJ’s number uh in here?” Like, we got Here’s the thing, fellas. We got a whole new staff here. We got to take advantage of that. I’m just I’m I’m talking out loud on the show here, giving a show meeting on on air right now. We got to get in. These are all our guys. Yeah. You know, so we got to make it happen. Yeah. Hopefully uh exciting times. Been exciting times in the playoffs. I know we’ve talked about this, but I found more uh evidence here of what’s going on with the homecourt advantage. Um, okay. What you got? Yeah, it’s from the the athletic. Uh, home teams won at least 60% of their games in 56 of the first 78 postseasons. So, that’s about the number 60% of the times of the playoffs, the home team wins. That’s just kind of an NBA fact. But home teams haven’t crossed 60% since the 2018 playoffs. Mhm. So, it’s all again, uh, homecourt advantage numbers have gone down as three-point attempts and makes have gone up. So, there’s no definite link there necessarily, but it sure looks like um, as we said yesterday, if I make more threes than you, it doesn’t matter where we’re playing the game, right? It’s And I think maybe that’s one of the reasons why the Kings homecourt advantage has not been what it used to be. No, you’re right. You’re you’re right. I mean, teams come into Sacramento and shoot lights out, you know, it’s um you’ve heard players though say they like playing on the road. Yeah. Part part of it too could be and you know these players are more locked in now on the road like it’s you know that they come in with a chip on their shoulder. I don’t know. Like, you know, the I think the three-point thing is very interesting, Whitey, because I understand that, but teams should not be able to shoot well on the road. You would think the crowd, you know, the home team should have the advantage shooting wise, their home floor, their lighting, their crowd, like their comfort zone. Why do the opponent Why do does the opponent come in and shoot well from three? I don’t know. But listen to this. From 2011 to 2014, okay, you got three chunks. That’s the first chunk. 2011 to 2014, that’s the four playoffs before the Warriors and Steph Curry took over. Road teams won 46.2% of the time. When they made it made at least one more three than the home team, okay? So 2011, 2014, you make one more three than the home team, you win 46.2% of the time. 2016 to 2019, road teams won 55% of their games when they made at least one more three than the home team. Since 2022, when you make one more three than the home team, road teams have won 61% of the time. Damn, that’s a lot. Yes, that’s huge. 60.9. I round it up. Round it up. But it’s been trending that way as a three point. Only make one more. Yeah, that’s it. Mhm. And usually I think it’s more than the one at least one. Yeah. Yeah. Dang. Maybe it is just about the three ball. I think a lot of it must be. I don’t know. But that’s let me say that’s the problem with basketball right now, White. We looking for We got too many damn numbers. We got too many because people see that and be like, “Oh, we just got to hit the threes while passing up two-point shots.” You know? It’s uh Yeah. I don’t I see the numbers. I see the correlation. I’m not sure if I’m 100% biased. Yeah. It it would suggest that it may be part of the reason. Part of the reason. Yeah. Other than that, how about that? Make miss league. You make your threes, you win. You miss, you lose. You make more threes, you win. The Celtics are a jump shooting team, aren’t they? They are. Remember those the Warriors when they won in 2015? A lot of people Charles Barkley led the charge said they can’t win. They’re a jump shooting team. And now the Celtics, they just won last year. They’re a jump shooting team. Yeah. And when the shot’s not going in, people going, “Oh, they don’t have any dog in them.” That’s that’s the problem with their their offense, though. And Jay, we got to find that Tim Leggler rant. Tim Leggler went on a rant the other day after game one about the Celtics offense and how it’s abomination. You know, it’s disrespectful to the game of basketball. It’s to me it’s leaving up to because I and I’ve seen it several times covering Boston game seven home floor three of 23 from three-point range. It’s like they’re leaving it up to chance that, you know, maybe I’ll have a good day today, maybe I won’t. And it’s like, no, if if all right, if the shots aren’t falling, do something else. These games are too important. A game seven, I’ve seen it two or three times. too important to just, you know, well, we were off today, so that’s why we lost. No, I gotta be better than that. You play a lot of golf, and I know this is a very rough comparison. Let’s say you’re really, and I don’t know if this is really the way you play or not. Let’s say one day, you know, hitting the driver, you’re all over the place. Everything else is pretty good, but with a driver, you’re just, you’re in jail like every other hole. Don’t you think, hm, maybe I should hit 3-wood off the tea? Maybe, right? But adjust. Yes. But NBA teams, going back to Houston against the Warriors a few years ago, if they’re like one for 24, the thinking is not, “Wow, I better shoot fewer.” It’s like, “No, I got to keep letting them fly, right? It it’s, you know, and that’s what coaches will tell you. It’s not about the result, whether you make or miss.” It’s about the quality of the shots, right? You know, and so how many times over the last 48 hours we’ve heard Celtics media and national media and Joe Missoula say, “Well, we were four of 25 on wide open threes, you know, so we’re getting the shots we want.” I get it. I get it. I understand that. But on this game, on this one game, it didn’t work and you lost. So why not try something else, right? It’s not a math problem. It’s a basketball game. It’s a basketball game. To your point about the driver in golf, it happened to me the other day. Driver was a little wonky through the first seven, eight holes. I said, “You know what? Yeah. Yeah, I’m pulling it. I usually pull, you know, and then uh so I club down, you know, a smaller club and you find the the shortcut.” Exactly. Exactly. So, no, but Joe Missoula, he’s stubborn, man. He’s a stubborn dude. So, give me the big dog, right? Yep. Give me number one. Look out. Yep. Uh when we come back, speaking of big swings, you know the Yankees are coming to town. Quick baseball note when we get back, tell you why the Yankees are probably salivating at the thought of playing in Sacramento. Mother’s Day weekend coming up. How about Kyle Draper going to see his mom? No, he’s not. Yeah. [Music] No. No, he’s not. My mistake. Made a mistake there. All right. Yeah, I’m back. What are we talking about? We’re talking about the fact that the Yankees are coming to town. Yeah. Yeah. I’m upset about that. I’m going to miss it. You know, got some business I got to take care of. Mhm. I wonder uh Yankees playing today at all or are they already in town? They played uh they played the Padres’s last three games. I think they have today off. So, Judge and the boys are at the Sawyer right now. They may be. Listen to the show. Out there. Yeah, they might be friends of the show, right? Fans and and they’re probably getting very excited about playing here at Sutter Health Park. the ball’s been flying out of Sutter Health Park. That’s one of the disadvantages of playing in a minor league park. Um, it’s actually affecting the play on the field. There’s a number called uh ballpark factor. What it is is it it judges how many runs a ballpark gives up. Not because of the pitching or the players or the hitters, but just because of the ballpark weather conditions, the dimensions. 100. If your park factor is 100, that means you’re equal. you’re just even. If it’s under 100, that means pitcher park. If it’s over 100, hitters park. Yeah. They also have that for um home run factor. 100 is like, yeah, average number of home runs. Under 100, it’s like, oh, it’s tough to hit home runs. Over 100, yeah, it’s easier to hit hit home runs there. For example, last three years, Great American and Cincinnati Bandbox, 126 is a home run arc factor. Lot of balls hit over the fence. Oracle at 79. So it’s harder to hit home runs in. So what do you think so far we have at Sutter Health Park? The the home run park factor. 100 is like even Stephen. Under 100 boy tough to hit home runs out of there. Under 100 is tough to hit. Uh 110 according to the athletic. Can you see that number right there at the top of that page right there? 172. 172. What? What? Yes. 172. And part of it is because of the wind. Uh you don’t have the big stadium to kind of neutralize the wind. So when the wind gets going and it’s more at night than day kind of a little bit of a launching pad. Interesting. Yeah. Why is that a big deal? Because it there’s launching pads all throughout the uh throughout the league. because this would be the highest by far of any park in baseball. Yeah, I’m not believing that though. Well, I mean, it is. So, it’s a it’s a real Give me Give me the the equation one more time, please. Cuz I Well, it’s just it’s I can’t give you the equation because I don’t even understand it. And there’s people listening that understand a lot better than I do. But it it’s 100 is a neutral park. Home run park factor. If it’s a 100, that means it’s neither a home run happy park or pitcher happy park. So if you’re hundreds like neutral Oracle Park the last three years has been at 79 so it’s hard to hit a home run there and as I said great American in Cincinnati 126 a lot of home runs there so it’s small sample size also to your point Jay they haven’t played that many games here but so far it’s been a home run haven so lot of balls flying out especially at night so uh I’m sure the Yankees are looking forward to getting some swings with their torpedo bats really all right they playing one of the smallest ballparks and people cried about their right field porch for a long time which is 310 down the way. Mhm. They they get cried. It’s talked about quite a bit. What does it show with the Yankees ballpark is? I could look it up. I think it’s above I looked it up today. It’s over 100, but it’s not I think it’s a between 100 and 110. Yeah. So, the main point is Yeah, it’s a small sample size, but it has been Yeah. I I’m on this website. I I I don’t know if this is Did the athletic say where where they got the information from? I’m on baseballs.mlb.com. And the park factor for this year. Orioles 117. Yeah. A’s 110. That’s just the park factor. Yeah. That’s not the home run. Okay. Is that just this year? Just this year. Uh-huh. Yeah. Sutter Health Park. Is there along the right? Is there a home run factor as well? Yeah, there there is something that says home runs. They got Orioles, Camden Yards. Mhm. Angel Stadium. They don’t have the A’s until ninth here on home runs. And what is it? 119. 119. I got Yeah, it’s still high. It’s still high. Yeah, it’s still high. To Jay’s point, Yankee Stadium is third, right? I’m like there’s there’s way bigger I mean way smaller ballparks than Sutter. Yeah. But the point is that what’s Kors? Corors is neutralized now by the fact that they use the balls that don’t travel as far. Oh yeah. They’re 14th. Uh still above 100 though. 105 according to this. Where’s Finway? It’s low. You know that that that’s not a uh home run park, right? They’re 25th like the left field. All the left field. You can’t you know right? And so, and they’re at 74. Yeah. Kame Park is the fewest and Kaufman Stadium, Kansas City, 58. According to these metrics I got right here. One of the things about Sacramento is at night, it’s uh really easy. It’s the easiest park to homer in at night. During the day, it’s the sixth hardest place to hit a homer. So, the 172 is probably at night. And your number is probably all things considered, and it has to do with the wind. So yeah, it’s also a factor in Tampa where they have a smaller park, right? Yeah. And I don’t mean just small like the fence isn’t far away. I mean the stadium is the dimension is small. Yeah. I think they have the smallest. There’s no second deck or anything to kind of neutralize the wind. Yeah. What’s Tampa’s uh park uh called? Is it Steinber? So I I got I’m going I’m going by this site. I got the full list right here. At night, number one, home run factor, Rogers Center, Toronto. Yep. 171. Wow. Orioles 171, Angels 155, A’s 143. That’s still very high. That’s still high. So, fourth at night, that’s, you know, and you can sort it by condition like you you’re just saying. Let’s look at uh during the day. Sutter Health Park A’s. What did you have, Whitey? Uh you recall uh for the A’s? The athletic said HR Park Factor 172. 172 uh for the daytime. And they’ve only played a handful of games. Yeah. 26 66, right? Six hardest in baseball. Yeah. Interesting. Yeah. Wow. Why do you think that is? because some called the wind shadow reducing some of the effect the wind can have on the ball. Okay. Because you’re in a small park. Yeah. And again, not just a short park where the fence is close, but you don’t have a second deck. Yeah. That’s true. Yeah. So, there’s all more wind out there. You’re right. Okay. Yeah. So, the Yankees So, you’re saying the Yankees about to hit 100 home runs this week. You could you could come to that conclusion. Sure. And all all three games uh night games or Sunday a day game? Um, Sunday I believe is a day game and then Saturday might be as well. They’ve been playing Saturday day games. All right. Got it right here. Big, you know, but it’s a huge deal. Yeah. Both day games. Yeah. I know a lot of people are not behind the whole A’s in Sacramento and the A’s leaving uh Oakland and I’m sympathetic to that too, but if you put that aside, and I’m not saying you should, just to have the Yankees coming to Sacramento, I mean, I can remember in past years like the Giants would come for an exhibition game. They’ve done that in very recent years. It was a big deal cuz like we got baseball here, uh, Major League Baseball, even though it was an exhibition game. And now it’s the Yankees are coming to Sacramento. It’s uh, it’s an incredible moment for Sacramento baseball history. Right. Any of these G any national games, Sunday night baseball or anything like that? No, I don’t think they’d want to showcase the most intimate park in baseball. I could be wrong. Is ours worse than Stein Brenerfield in Tampa? I haven’t seen that much of it. From what I’ve seen, it it it looks pretty nice. Okay. Yeah. But, you know, Casey Pratt was on with Jose today and Casey Pratt, who covered the A’s relocation saga for many years, and now he’s with the Oakland Ballers. He used to cover um when the Rivercats played up here and they were the A’s AAA team, he says he loves it’s a stadium. It’s just not a major league. That’s not major league. Yeah. Yeah. No, he’s right. He’s right. Is this the only time the Yankees are coming to town? I think so. Damn. Yeah. I got business to take care of. I’m going to miss it. Yeah. Yeah. But then next year, well, maybe the Dodgers will be here next year. Who knows? Yeah. Yeah. But then the A’s, they got the Yankees and then they got to go visit the Dodgers. They got to go the Giants. So, we’ll see where they stand. That’s a sweep the third series. Over the Giants. Yeah. Yeah. You said third series. That’s a sweep. Okay. All right. You look at Dwight. Yeah, I got to say we’re like that. Okay. Okay. I’m fine with that, too. Sweet. Coming in that third. You can sweep the Dodgers, too, for all I care. What’s crazy is Oh, that game’s at San Francisco. I was going to say if it was up here, it’d be more Giants fans than a fans. Yeah, I think they’re going to be here. I think the Giants are here Fourth of July weekend, are they? Okay. Okay. It’s going to be more Giants fans there, right? I would guess so. Probably so. Yeah. Damn, that hurts. Mhm. Okay. Yeah. Fourth of July weekend. You’re right. Yeah. Yankees have hit 62 home runs this season. Aaron Judge has 60 of them, right? Yeah. So, there’ll be a lot of Yankee fans. As obnox are they as obnoxious as Dodger fans? Yes. The one the thing they do that to me is most obnoxious. I think I’ve talked about this. They’ll wear a Yankee jersey with like Zabagio 5 or Mickey Manel 7 and they’ll have the name on the back mantle. It’s like the Yankees never wore Yeah. names on the back and you shouldn’t need that. Everyone knows who number seven on the Yankees is. What’s wrong with you? Different generations. Why? They hadn’t been good in a long time. So, people have forgotten who they are, I guess. All right. All right. But no name. Shouldn’t know names. No names. So, big weekend for Sacramento baseball. Uh the other thing, unfortunately, when Casey Pratt was on with Jose today, he said he thinks Jay that they are still going to move to Vegas. He’s Oakland baller now. He’s a baller. He still thinks that, huh? Yeah. And he says he doesn’t like saying that, but he still thinks that’s going to happen. Did he put the reason behind it? Uh, he just Yeah. To summarize, he said there’s so many people there with so much money. They’re going to end up dragging Fiser one way or the other across the finish line there. He says that’s what he thinks is going to happen. There’s just too much too much money in Vegas. Too many people that want it to happen with too much money. I could see the league. I think the league wants to save face. I think they’re going to help out. I think that’s for me that’d be the issue. Yeah. The most iconic team in baseball coming to Sacramento. I’m going to be there for it. Also says my friend flew from the east coast here to watch the game for his birthday. He’s expecting a lot of home runs hit. Okay. Yeah. You know, that’s a sore subject for A’s fans because when they announced they had the press conference at um Sutter Health Park announcing that they were going to play there, John Fischer said people can come out and see Aaron Judge hit home runs. Yeah. No mention of Yeah. I don’t know that he knew who was on his right on the team. I don’t know. So, we’ll see what happens this weekend. The A have been playing well. They currently, I believe, are clinging to the third wild card spot. Come on, Whitey. You can’t talk about wild card right now, can you? Sure. Why not? I got it right here. One, two. What up? Third wild card spot. Half a game ahead of the Red Sox. Yeah, that’s something for a team that won. What did they win last year? They didn’t win many games. I think their magic number is like 80. Okay. Yeah. Put it up there. We’ll put it up on the wall. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. So, all right. Uh, also of course the NBA playoffs continuing tonight and the Boston Celtics in big trouble. They’re having a hard time in Boston in Beantown. You’re all stomping grounds with the way the Celtics looked the last two games. Yeah, they’re struggling right now. And if they don’t get it done, it will be disappointing. We’ve already heard reports that the team is looking to break up a few players just because it’s so expensive. I mean, think about it. You got two guys, you know, on 300 plus million dollar contracts. I think they got five guys uh 30 and above, 30 million and above or something like that. And so uh they’re going to have to sell off some pieces this off season. Yeah. Even if they win, they may have to do that, huh? Right. Yep. So if they lose, they almost would be obligated to make some changes, right? Have to. Yeah. I don’t know. Joe Missoula, I know you probably know him. I mean, he’s he’s definitely on the hot seat right now. Down 02 with people questioning his in-game decisions last night and legitimately questioning some of the decisions. Yeah. I mean, I I you know, people are rip on Tatum, you know, and he was not great in the first game or the second game really, but your coach is supposed to, you know, put you in the best possible position to succeed. And I don’t think Joe Missoula did that last night. Two, well, three blunders. One, not calling the timeout at the three minute mark because it’s one of those if you if you don’t use it, lose it. Right. Exactly. And so, he didn’t call the timeout. Knicks are going on the run. Secondly, he fouls Mitchell Robinson playing the hacker Mitch and it backfired because your team wasn’t in a penalty yet and so you commit two fouls on Mitchell Robinson to get into the penalty and Tib subs him out and brings in OG Anobi. So now you can’t play you foul and any next foul is going to be free throws for the Knicks and then not calling timeout with 12 seconds left on that final possession. Yeah. So, the incredible number here, uh, the Celtics became the first team in the play-by-play era to blow two 20-point leads in the same postseason, and they did it in back-to back games, and now 02 and they are not happy in Boston. Your guy Scal’s not happy. Eddie House on the post game. Uh, sports talk hosts in Boston are not happy. Not happy at all. Not happy. And you know, when I look at their roster, it’s super topheavy. I’m talking they’re top six, seven. Super top half. Are you including Payton Pritchard? I I did say top seven. Yep. I include Payton Pritchard. Your boy, your guy, but super. After that, it falls off immensely. Sam Hower, Luke Cornet. Come on. What are you talking about here? But they’re topheavy. But all the reports suggest they’re going to have to trade or make a move with one of their top seven. At least one of their top seven. So we don’t think it’ll be Jason Tatum. I really don’t even think it’ll be Jaylen Brown. But anybody after that could be fair game off the Boston Celtics. And when I’m looking at their roster, there’s one guy I might be targeting. I’m with you. Let’s Let’s see. Let’s Chris Taps Porzingis. No. Why not? Well, he’s dealing with this mysterial mysterious illness set to make $30 million, close to $30 million. He is a stretch five, you know, could pair with Domas, can block some shots. It makes sense. Uh I just don’t like his health issues. Yeah, I’m with you. Injuries. He’d be a guy that he he wouldn’t play much of the regular season. And with the Kings, you don’t even know if you’re going to have a long postseason. So, not a good fit. He’s only 29 right now, too. He’s been He’s been around Faber, it seemed like. Um, then your guy must be Al Horford. Ah, Al 30. Al Horford is closer to my age than he’s closer to Keegan Murray’s age. Like, that’s your leadership. I like Al. Al is a locker room guy, veteran guy. Um, but nah, I’mma pass on Al. Who else? Oh, Jay’s got Derek White. Now, I would like Derek White. I actually would like Derek White. Jay, I would like Derek White. $20 million. Point guard can defend. Not a bad pickup, right? He’s not the guy, though. How old is Derek White? I know he’s not old. 30. 30. Yeah, Dererick White’s 30. Uh, been around a little bit. NBA says plus or minus2 to $3 million, right? You have to be close to a contract. So, I’ll just throw it out there. You don’t have to answer. Yeah, I don’t have to answer. Yeah. Malik Monk or Derek White. Ooh, that’s up to Whitey. Uh, Derek White, better defender. There you go, Jay. How you feeling about a better point guard? He fits what I’m trying to do more. He may be, if I’m really all in on I We need a point guard. Need a point guard. He might solve that for me. I’d rather have a younger guy, but I said someone who could shoot or defend, right? He can do both. He can do both. But he’s not your guy, is he? I mean, he’s a guy. Give me Malik. Really? Give me. Tell me why. I know you don’t like Derek. You’re not a fan of Derek White. Yeah. Not personal. I don’t personal can of paint. Yeah. Uh I like Malik. I just think he fits what Sacramento does and they need if he’s the sixman. I think we figured out he’s a sixman. He’s a deadly six-man and I think he does it better than just about anybody in the league. I I need that on my bench. And he’s a combo guy. A combo guy. And on top of that, he’s a shooter, which is something why he always wants. Mhm. So, you taking a sixman over a starter. Yeah. I think Derek White just starts fantastically for the Celtics. I think if you put him over here, we’re going to ask him to be a two or a three. Good luck. Meaning second or third best option. Third option. He would sure guarant help make my defense better. He would. Yeah, he would. I don’t know why Boston would do that necessarily cuz if they’re looking to reduce salary, they’re not going to just like take on another big salary, right? I mean, they’re looking to move. So, who is your guy? Uh, is it Jason Tatum? That is my guy, but he’s not going to be traded. He’s not gonna He’s there. He’s a lifer in Boston. Mark it down. Yeah. So, it’s got to be Jaylen Brown. JB for three and I’m with you. He is a phenomenal two-way player. We don’t agree on everything, but we agree on Jaylen Brown. Now, let me ask you though, because you know, we both love the player, but it’s going to cost you. JB this season made $49 million, Whitey. Mhm. Don’t you got to come up with some money somehow to get him? H um you have to give up a lot, right? Like in terms of couple big names, you’re talking Demar and Malik. I don’t know that they would. H what would they what would Boston want if Boston expiring contracts? Really? Is that it? Yeah. That’s how you get out of the money situation, right? Trade for guys who are shorter contracts. So, I think uh um Jaylen Brown, his contract, the mega one starts this year, I think. Yeah. So, uh it goes up to 53 this upcoming season. 576164. Mhm. I don’t know what Boston’s plan would be. And I know that even before they fell in the hole against the Knicks, there’s been for last few weeks a lot of talk that wow, their their salary structure is not sustainable. And no matter what happens, they might be trying to shed some pieces here. But to what end? They wouldn’t be tearing it down, would they? So, it’s hard for me to figure out what I want to send them because I don’t know what they want. Expiring contracts. I don’t think uh I have a lot of that. Yeah. You got um Deamar De Rozan one season and partially guaranteed in the second season. That’s a great question. That’s great. But Jaylen Brown might be your centerpiece. Yeah, he would be your guy you build around. He You have to get him sooner or later. You have to get that guy. If you could get him went to Cal, I jump on that. Otherwise, I’m thinking, you know, if I can’t get that guy, I’m thinking Scott Perry might be very methodical and very patient, and I think it might be a while before the Kings make a big move like that. Think so, huh? That’d be my guess. JB will be 29 in October. That don’t scare you or anything like that? His knee scares me more than his age. Okay. Okay. I’m on basketball reference. You know how they have uh nicknames? Yeah. Did you see Jaylen Brown’s nickname? No. JB the gravedigger old man. I don’t know if I want to trade for a guy. No, I’m a little bit younger than that old guy. And uh I really like the way he faced the music so to speak to the media last night and all those questions and some of those questions were a little pointed. I hate to say it but you guys have really squandered leads and he sat there looking at people and he answered all the questions. Yeah. And JB Justin on the text line Boston would want Keon Ellis and Keegan. They might. All right. They probably would. Yeah. Uh, somebody 916. So, Lavine and the trade exemption for Brown can’t uh use the trade exemption for uh can’t aggregate it, include it with anything else. You can’t use a player and a trade exception. Whatever you get has to fit solely into the trade exception. And even if you could, if Boston’s trying to shed salary, why would they want Zack Lavine? Yeah. Yeah. So, what you’re saying is no way in hell. I don’t know. I’m trying to find a way, but I think I’m with you. There’s lots of interesting pieces there. I’d like that guy. I’d like that guy. I’m not sure about the fit, but if I could get Jaylen Brown, I’d really try really hard to do that. Yeah. I I would offer pretty much everything. Mhm. You know, call Brad Stevens. Brad, what do you want? Take your pick. It’s open season. Mhm. Cuz that’s a guy you build around. A culture setter, too. Two teams made statements in the NBA playoffs last night. Who makes a statement tonight? Next with the drive guys on Sackown Sports. There are so many benefits of working with the overhead door company of Sacramento. I still think the Celtics are winning this series. I I if I had to put money, that’s where I’d bet it. I’d take the odds and bet the Celtics for sure. And the Knicks still blow. Don’t let someone now Don’t let the Celtics off the hook by saying, “Whoa, the Knicks are No, they’re not. They’re trash. You You felt they were trash uh 5 days ago. You thought they were trash five weeks ago. You thought they were trash five months ago, 5 years ago, because you know why? They’re trash. They’re garbage. Your flagship station for the beam team, Sack Town Sports. Huh? Who is that? That’s my guy Michael Felgger. 985 the sports hub, host of Felgar and Maz show. Just saying the Knicks are trash. Garbage. I don’t quite get that. No, because what is the point of that? They’re not trash. No, you know, I know Celtics fans think they are. Yeah. Yeah. He He’s This is his way and I know Speler’s thinking this is his way of saying don’t take away from the fact that you just blew a two 20 point leads to a trash team. Don’t be like, “Oh, Knicks, man, they’re better than I thought. Oh, Knicks, they got brunts in future Hall of Fame.” No, you thought they were trash yesterday. They’re still trash and you lost two games to them. That’s his way of thinking. That’s how he’s spinning it out there in Boston. 100% sure on and that’s how most of the fans feel that they’re trash that the Knicks are. Yeah. Yeah. 100%. Yeah. Yeah. It’s it’s it’s you know some of the media members. He’s trying to say don’t make excuses for these Celtics. They should be up two zero in this series. Knicks have been thoroughly outplayed for six of the eight quarters. It’s the fourth quarter that’s killing both. Why do you think this Celtics team is kind of prone to this 2022? They probably should have won the NBA championship. And I know Steph Curry happened and so it’s like ah great shooter but had a one of his greatest series but Boston should have won that series. They didn’t. And then 2023 that’s when they went down 03 to Miami, right? Yeah. And came all the way back and then lost and then lost in game seven, which is just weird. And now here they are again with another two games that make you go, “Huh, what’s wrong with this team?” I don’t know, man. Because one minute they could be so great. Yeah. And the next, you know, is it a not being locked in? Is it the style of play? I don’t I don’t know what it is to be honest with you because I’m sorry Tatum’s a man. We all know Tatum. Sorry. I don’t know what that was. N you can’t. I mean, if you hate on Jason Tatum, you ain’t been watching that dude. Big Perk. Look at Big Perk just saying things to get clicks. You know, Big Perk, I thought you taught him better than that. Nah, Big Perk is is a media shill right now. He’s my guy, but he’s out there trying. He He’s trying to get clicks right now. I I know I I’m I’m hip to his game. All those people on ESPN, I’m hip to their those. Does Tatum need to be better? Yes. But he’s shown flashes of being great. He’s a future Hall of Famer. He’s an NBA champion, several time all-star, Olympic gold medalist. It’s like, this dude has accomplished a lot. Is he Kobe? Is he Jordan? No. But I feel like he’s being held to a standard maybe nobody else in the league is being held to other than maybe LeBron. If anybody else comes up short, they don’t get maybe James Harden, but Harden hasn’t won anything. So, I get it. Tatum’s actually won something. Tatum’s come up big in big games. Mhm. And so this whole narrative, he’s not built for the moment and all this. I just earlier listed three or four games when they were backs against the wall and Tatum stepped up big. But he’s also, let’s be honest, he has had games, big games where he did not come through. That series against the Warriors, he struggled. I got that series right here. Let’s talk about that, Whitey, because I’m, you know, All right. 12 points first game. There’s That’s Yeah, 28. Did they win that first game? was the second game they won. No, they won that one. Yeah. 12 28 the second game. So they won the first game when he scored 12 and had 13 assist. Mhm. But they lost when he scored 28 for third game 26 23 27 13 in the last game. That’s the one that was, you know, come back to haunt him. And so I my thing is struggling isn’t the right like coming up small or turtling isn’t necessarily the right I could go any great player Kobe has come up small in NBA F I said game seven 2010 NBA finals check out Kobe Bryant’s shooting he was six of 23 from the field I believe in that sear in that game seven he came up small but they still won so nobody talks about I got numerous instances where Tatum has come up big. How about this? Game seven, 2023 against the Sixers, 51 points in a game. Well, sure, we can we can find games where he’s had big games, but the narrative back there is, wow, too often when they need him to have a big game, he doesn’t. That’s I mean I that’s just what they say. People that see him play all the time say. But but that that’s the problem in sports. Narrative isn’t really truth. Narrative is a a player will get a reputation but it doesn’t match up with who they really are. You know the narrative on LeBron was he wasn’t clutch but yet he had more clutch shots than anybody in the league. Like people put stuff out and then it gets aggregated, gets on all the talk shows and then it becomes who they are, which isn’t 100% true. Is he not playing well? Is he is his shot not falling right now? Yes. Could that change tomorrow? Yes. I mean, if we’re going to do this every game, you know, make sure you have that same energy when he drops. 37 against the Orlando Magic, 35 in a closeout game, 31 in game five against Dallas to win the championship to go along with 11 assist and eight rebounds. Sure, but they’re 0 and2. They’ve lost two home games to the Knicks. He’s their best player and arguably one of the faces of the league. Some of that has to be on him. Nobody’s saying not saying that, but Perk is saying he’s not. Do we have that perk? Can you get it? He said he’s not built for that moment. What are we talking about? He didn’t play well. As somebody in the 209 said, Steph Curry came up small in the finals many times. Should I look up Steph Curry’s? I can look at games where Steph had 17 16. But he caused some flack for that though. Yeah, he did. And then he actually put a lot of that to bed. Couple years ago, but against the Celtics. Nah, nah, nah, not no. He He never put No, no. Once he started winning titles, he was never viewed as somebody that came up small. The the narrative regarding Steph was he hadn’t won this finals MVP. But once he started winning championships, nobody was like, “Oh, he comes up small in the big games. He’s not built for the moment.” Oh, a lot of people said he’s not all that. And he, like you said, they said he’s never won the finals. It’s all It’s been all about the finals MVP. It has not been about he’s not built to win a championship or he’s not built for the moment. Steph Curry has the same thing. No, it’s not. No, it’s not. Finals MVP is one thing. Being built for the moment is another thing. Being built for the moment is when the lights are the brightest, you turtle. That’s what Perk is talking about. When the lights are the brightest, Tatum, you’re not playing your best. That was never said about Steph Curry. Um, yeah. once he started winning championships. Mhm. When he won three out in four years, I don’t think that was ever the narrative. Maybe down there in San Francisco, but you know, nationally, I I don’t know. I don’t know. I disagree. Yeah. Um they still have every opportunity to turn it around because, you know, you look at the numbers here that show homec court doesn’t mean what it used to mean in the NBA. At least it hasn’t in this postseason. Therefore, the teams that are down that have lost at home, maybe they’re not in as much trouble as it looks because maybe it’s easier than we think for Cleveland to go into Indiana and win the next game. And as Seam Miko told us, if Boston, and I’m not I’m not a Boston fan, but just trying to look at it objectively uh with this torrent of Celtic uh bile coming from Boston fans. If they win the next game, boom, it’s not even, but they’re right back in the thing. Yeah. And I think, you know, I think I read something. There’s more teams, home teams that have gone down 02. Have we’ve never seen a 60 plus win team go down 02 until this year with Cleveland. Now we had two. And now we’ve had two. And I I fully expect both those guys to bounce back. I mean, you know, Cleveland’s banged up. But Boston has proven they can win on the road. you know, they they were getting handled by like I don’t think that series is over by any stretch of the imagination. And those guys on TNT, inside the NBA, made a good point after the game. They said arguably game three are must wins for the Knicks and for Indiana because if you allow the Celtics to win game three, now it’s 2-1. Who’s the pressure on going into game four? squandered a lot of what you gain just like that. 339 1140 1 800920140 Trees on Sack Down Sports. Hey Trey, what do you say? Drive guys, my guys. What’s going on, man? What’s up Trey? What’s up? What’s up? Hey. Hey. Uh, real quick, um, Draps, um, I do want to get at you a little bit. Um Steph Curry uh did catch a lot of um a flak for not for his turnovers. So he always had a little knock in there, you know, in those big games when he had a lot of turnovers. Actually, when when uh LeBron came down from the three came back on the 3-1, it was Curry’s terrible game that term them game six and seven where he really it a little bit. It wasn’t until he like won, you know, the MVP where they started talking about now he had good games in the playoffs. I’m not saying or in the finals, but um a lot of times uh in those crucial games, you know, he had a lot of turnovers, so he did catch a lot of um flag for that. Um but I also wanted to say uh because I heard nobody talking about this. I’m looking at teams that would need like instant offense and and I only can come up with a couple teams that would really want somebody like Demar D Rozan or maybe even like you know Malik Monk and um it was between the Rockets and and and the Magic and I’m just I want I just want your opinion on that. I I really like Cole Anthony. Um, I think he plays really hard and he like exemplifies what Doug would want in a point guard. And the good thing about the way he play, the way I love way he play is he defensive minded. He likes to get the offense going and um, he won’t take away shots um, you know, from the other players because I think Keegan this, you know, we all know this is Keegan like a make or break year for him. Um, I know Jay was on him the other day. Um, I agree with what Summer Jay said. Um, but I feel like if Demar if he didn’t have a a um somebody that hoged up a lot of shots or a lot of space like Demar, Keegan could kind of flourish into that role. So, I just want to know what you guys think about um the uh Cole Anthony. Um the salaries are a little off. They would probably have to get another um Sacramento could get another player in the deal, maybe a big or something like that. But I just want to know what you guys think about that. All right, man. I’m King. Love y’all, man. I talk to y’all later. Thank you, Trey. I like Cole Anthony. He’s a little small and he only started 22 games for Orlando last year. I don’t know if he answers that. If there’s a point guard issue for the Kings, he’s a nice player. I don’t know. To me, he’s not necessarily the answer. Trey, I’m siding with you on this one, man. I I actually like that move. I I think Cole Anthony is one of those guys with a a bigger opportunity. Remember, they got Jaylen Suggs there in Orlando. So, Cole Anthony comes off the bench. Uh Suggs obviously was hurt, you know, the second half of the season, but you know, he plays with toughness, grit, like Whitey said, a little smaller, but you know, uh for what you’d have to give up, and his contract, I think, is uh pretty decent pulling it up right here. 13 million next season, then a team option for 13.1 after that. I’m interested. Sign me up for Cole Anthony. I like that. And and that’s a guy that Orlando might be willing to move off because like I said, they got Jaylen Suggs. Yeah. And he is a good shooter. Shoots the three ball well. Mhm. Yeah. A little concerned about size, but uh yeah, I’m open to it. Don’t like it as much as you guys, but wouldn’t shut the door. What did he say? Malik for him. Is that what he said? Uh tomorrow, I think he said. Oh, yeah. Oh, I definitely you ready to give away demar for a tomorrow’s like a problem a Costco coupon or something like that? What’s up with that? Kirkland golf balls or something? Dear is just in the way of what I need to do. It’s not his fault. Man, you looking to sell low like you know take I thought I’m selling high. You told me I’m selling high. But you’re on the fence with that. But you you you if it’s tomorrow I said yes. I’ll do that. Dude, if I throw out any name, you’d probably be like, “Yeah, I’ll do that. Yeah, I’ll do that. I’ll do that.” No, we could try that if you if you want. Um, yeah, Cole Anthony is a good player. Good shooter. Um, he hasn’t been quite as good as they hoped he’d be, but I think Jaylen Suggs had a lot to do with that. Yeah. Uh, when we come back, you want to hear what Big Perk had to say about your Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Big Perk takes a big poke at Boston’s top dog next on Sackdown Sports. If you’re 55 and up, T-Mobile has plans built just for you. It’s like some of the guys the Pacers got like Aaron Nmith. They traded Brogden for him, right? Yep. And he’s improved by leaps and bounds. He was what, like the 15th pick, something like that. Boston just kind of kind of a keeganing, you know, like he’s not get much opportunity and then the Pacers get him and and then he’s he’s a play blossoms. Yeah. Not everybody, by the way, is as excited about or is as high on Jaylen Brown as as you and I are from the 916. JB had good numbers, but he failed in the last three minutes of the fourth quarter. Um JB is an absolute joke. Wasn’t too impressed with Jaylen Brown in game two. I think he was the reason the Celtics lost. As from Justin, sports debate is terrible right now. No, it’s not. I’m kidding. We’re We’re talking about a Finals MVP, Whitey. He had one or two bad games. He’s an absolute joke. We’re talking about a Finals MVP. We’re talking about a guy Eastern Conference Finals MVP multiple times, I might add. It’s uh Yeah, it’s uh Here’s from the 530 Cole Anthony. Check. Somebody favor Cole Anthony from the 916. Man, the prestige of being one of Kyle’s guys has fallen now that Big Perk is considered his guy. All right. What you got? What you What problem do you got with Big Perk? 916. Oh, love noodles. Come on, bro. Come on. Come on. Everybody’s Kyle’s guy only like there’s it’s different levels. Whitey, if I know you, you’re my guy. I know Big P, Mike, Bby, you know, those are my guys. If you play well, have a game winner, go all for 40, my guy. Tatum, I know that’s my guy. But if you struggle, I’m not owning you. I’m not claiming you. You’re not my guy. Mhm. On that day, Hackabar says, “Keegan has been worthless for the last two seasons. How is this upcoming a make or break?” Wow. The Keegan Murray slander. It’s uh it’s difficult to fathom. Hacklear continues. Mental problems if you want to keep but ditch Demar De Rozan. Wow. Talking about you on that one. Huh. Axelar is kind of new, right? I haven’t seen him in the YouTube channel much. Darren Stewart. Axibar. Have we been watching the same team? Yeah. He answers. Have you? All right. All right. Uh, you want to hear what Big Perk had to say? Yeah. I got I got a Cuz I know this is Big Perk. He’s your guy. And he’s saying less than flattering things about Jason Tatum, who’s also your guy. So, I know this is difficult for Yeah, it is. It is. But I’m team Tatum no matter what perks. This is on I believe it was on Get Up on ESPN. Here’s Big Perk. Well, I mean, he’s not he’s not stepping up. And look, you know, playing with Paul Pierce, you know, in my Celtic days. The one thing I will acknowledge about Paul Pierce was that he took pride in protecting his career, right? He took pride in individual matchups and not losing games on his home floor. I’m not seeing that from Jason Tatum right now. And it’s all about the dog, right? Being the dog, being able to get to the free throw line. And I get it. He shot only five three-point shots last night. And you got to give a lot of credit to OG Ana Nova. You got to give a lot of credit to Mikuel Bridges. Hell, Jaylen Bronson at time we see him slide those puppies and we saw at the end of the play we saw Mitchell Robinson get down in the defensive stance. But at some type at some point Jason Tatum got to say I’m the best player on the floor. I cannot be guarded. He’s one of the most elite scorers in the game today. And I just don’t see that tenacity. I don’t see that dog in him. And this is I thought was going to be his moment after being disrespected all summer long that he was going to be ready to protect not only his championship but definitely protect his home court and his crib. What do you think Trapes? I don’t see the dog in him. Big Perk, man. He’s It’s revisionist history first of all when it comes to Paul Pierce. We need dogs. I love Paul Pierce. That’s my guy too. But I just had to walk to work today. I I just went through Paul Pierce’s game logs and he’s come up small, too. Great players sometimes don’t always deliver. Paul Pierce, I’m looking at it right here, Whitey. I got it right in front of me. 2010 against Cleveland. LeBron James three game six, four of 13 shots, 13 points. They got the win though. But it wasn’t because Paul Pierce put him on the back. And my thing with Jason Tatum is yes. Does he need to be better? Does he need to step up? Yes. But don’t act like we haven’t seen him be a dog drop 51 in a game seven against Milwaukee before. a must-win situation or I mean uh Philadelphia, excuse me, go into Milwaukee game six and drop 40 plus. Like people are just reacting because of what happened the last two games and trying to make a statement about a man’s career and it’s just not accurate. Yeah, that’s the point I’m trying to make. Is he struggling? Yeah, but it’s not his whole career, right? Sorry. Go ahead. No, no, excuse me. The ESPN mentality is when team A is supposed to win and they lose to team B, then someone in team A must have screwed up. That’s what it is. It’s not like, wow, team B beat him. Team A, who’s who’s to blame on team A. Right. Right. And so, right now, you know, Jason Tatum with his history. Yeah, there are a number of things you could point to and go, huh? Um, you know, they didn’t come through there. They had this this moment where everything wasn’t as it should be. But here’s the thing. If he shied away from the ball at the end of the game, then I think you could say, “Oh, he doesn’t want it.” That’d be something. And there were a few shots that he passed up last night. But their last two possessions, one, he drives to the basket for the lead. Got the lead. Yeah. And he wanted for that moment, right? Yeah. Cuz Derek White’s point guard Derek White is like, “Okay, the ball’s going to Tatum.” And he drove and got the nice green from Horford. Next time down the floor, he didn’t shy away. He wanted the ball. Now, the play kind of blew up. was defended differently and he ended up getting at trapped at the baseline and he made a bad play, but it wasn’t like he was like standing in the corner. Yeah, I don’t want it. So, I think there’s a big difference there. Yeah, I I agree 100% with you. I mean, and and one thing you know about great players. They’re going to hit some game winners and they’re going to miss. And most of the time they’re going to miss more than they make. they’re actually gonna fail more than they succeed in the clutch situations. And so I think people, you know, we’re such a prisoner of the moment here when it comes to sports talk because everybody, you know, you got a daily show, you got to react immediately, right? Instead of, you know, last night he didn’t get it done. He has to be better. That’s all fair game. But this whole, you know, not ready for the moment and, you know, it it’s just comparing him to Paul Pierce, like Paul Pierce was excellent every single game of his career. Great players struggle at times. Yeah. You know, there’s a lot of people in sports media now, that’s how they try to shape the narrative after uh one team loses uh in disappointing fashion. It’s like, well, it’s got to be about the personalities. And it isn’t. It just isn’t always. There’s obviously that’s part of it, but it’s shaped that way and it’s something of an illusion. Meanwhile, back on the chateau, Farmer Bley and Hackabar going back and forth among others on Keegan. Farmer Bley says he’s your guy, right? He’s an Eagle fan. Yeah. Says Keegan was useless. He should be all defense this year. Haxabar says Dear is a B+ NBA player. Keegan is a C++. Are you guys crazy? M no but that’s just it’s not that simple Haxabar it’s about what you have invested in these players and what you can get out of them Keegan can be more than that so that’s why and he’s being held back a little bit maybe in part by not intentionally but by Tamar so Keegan’s an asset you can’t just ah move off of him that in it’s shortsighted I I agree because we haven’t seen the best of Keegan Um, you know, it’s and I think Whitey’s point is we got too many cooks, too many chefs. You know, you you take out a Demar D Rozan now Keegan can step up his game and blossom a little bit. You know, you know what it’s like, Whitey. I don’t know if you’re a planting guy, a flower guy, but if you plant plant too many seeds, Yeah. the flowers try to grow, they they they crowd each other. They budge. You got to clean some of them out. And that’s what we need with Keegan Murray. And so this whole narrative, he’s been what that what did that guy say? Trash or garbage or hacks a bar uh has been worthless for the He said worthless. See, that’s this that’s this is why I’m talking that’s why I hate sports debate right now. Worthless. You can’t have too many fruit on the same branch stripes. Oh, that Oh, because then they’ll all be smaller and shriveled. I like that. You got a cold one here, cold one there, and then you got nice, juicy, healthy fruit. Yes. Yes. It’s not an easy process, but it must be done. Uh, more in the NBA playoffs when we come back. Big numbers news for the NBA, but why are any fans supposed to care? Next on Sackdown Sports. I’m Ken Korak with your green and gold report brought to you by Comcast Business powering possibilities. Are the Minnesota Timberwolves going to make a statement tonight similar to what OKC did last night? I’d be surprised if they don’t. We also have this though on the other side of that uh coin uh friend of the show deer Kurtbach who was just on last week with us Jay I think um San Jose Mercury News columnist Bay Area media personality on X he posted a couple minutes ago an absolute stunning amount of pressure on the Timberwolves tonight like winning shouldn’t be hard but if you don’t win a wideeyed emoji um sure but uh I don’t know that they feel that pressure unless they get off to a slow start or you know it’s a game in the fourth quarter they might start feeling some of that pressure but Ant doesn’t strike me as the type at least at this point who has really been bogged down by that kind of oo what if we don’t win pressure yeah ain’t no pressure yeah not yet because it’s kind of what you’re talking about when it comes with the Tatum it’s cliche it’s one of those things where it’s you lost the game oh it’s pressure for for you to win in the playoffs. We’ve seen 3 0 31. It’s another game. It’s always pressure. We’re in the position where every single game from here on out is going to be pressure. So, it’s nothing bigger, you know, than the next game. And you hear athletes talk about it all the time. Now, of course, game sevens are a little different. We heard Buddy talk about it, right? I never got to playing the game seven. There was a little different inkling or a different feeling there, but every game’s pressure, fellas. Yeah, we’re at that point now. I just think if you’re Minnesota and you look around at the fact and, you know, acknowledge the fact that Steph Curry’s not playing for about a week, you can’t help but feel like, all right, we got our business, but we should be in good shape here. And I know we didn’t take him seriously in the first game, but that’s not going to happen tonight. I don’t think I don’t think so. I think they’ll come out fired up. You know, like I said, what I worry about is the Warriors system uh getting the best of of the Timberwolves. Uh, can they solve, you know, Buddy Healed and that offense, uh, and Pajimky and some of the open looks that they got? Talent-wise, on paper, Minnesota should win. Um, what do they do with Rudy Gobear? Who does he guard? Is that an issue? Is that why there Golden State got so many open looks in game one is because Minnesota played Rudy Gobear so much? Yeah. Pull Rudy off. They’re really good at that since he was with Utah. Right. But Minnesota still should have enough flexibility where if they have to do that, they’re not that severely compromised in my opinion. Oh, we have to go small. That’s all right. I mean, I think they have the players to do that. They just got to make shots. There were What did they shoot? 17% or something like that. Yeah. What? No threes in the first half. Yeah, I think it was. And you know, to your point that that you’ve been talking about here recently, teams that make threes win basketball games. You you got to make shots. Mhm. What you got? You got something there. No, I don’t. I don’t. Come on. What? I just thought you were looking for something like like me something. Okay. All right. All right. Yeah. Um here’s one thing I was looking at earlier today. We talk about this from time to time and this probably isn’t worth, you know, getting agitated about, but I saw today that the ratings on TNT for the uh Warriors and the Rockets, game seven, Sunday night, highest rated first round game on TNT since 2009. Okay, so I think it was awful announcing. I saw that. So that’s Oh, the highest rated 2009 since 2009. Highest rated first round game. And you see that the ratings for the NBA, they’re up a little bit. Oh, they’re down. Regular season ended up being down 2%. But they’re up on this network for this round, you know. And the thing is I I don’t see why fans should care, you know. I know there’s this narrative that, oh, the NBA is oh, it’s losing viewers and the ratings are down. The NBA is doing fine. And besides, I think Jay’s made this point as far as the ratings, the TV deals are done, right? They they’re getting their money. And if we’re going to, you know, try to squeeze out some narrative that, oh, the NBA is in trouble, it’s just not. It’s not the NFL and never will be. And if you compare to the NFL, oo, they’re not doing as well. Well, that’s hardly a news flash. The NBA is doing great in these playoffs, have done well, and the ratings have been really healthy. So, I don’t know what why this is continuing to be a story because I I feel like people who bring it up aren’t necessarily NBA fans. They got some agenda. It’s sort of like it’s sort of like the A’s attendance numbers. Uhhuh. Like the numbers are going to be the numbers. When the numbers are high, people, oh, look at that. See, we can’t. And then when they’re low, see, Sacramento can’t. If it’s people with their minds already made up about the product, an agenda and they’re trying to find evidence. Find evidence. Exactly. I don’t know any true NBA fan that’s like, “Oh man, people ain’t watching our games.” Like, yeah, you going to watch the games or you’re not. It really has no impact on your dayto-day. And so, I’m with you. It’s I don’t know why it’s such a big story and it used to be that way with baseball, too. Right. Yeah. Is it with baseball as much anymore, you think, or they’ve sort of passed that point where it is what it is? It will be, I think, probably in the postseason. Okay. You know, right. Right. Right. Like hockey I don’t hear ratings are, you know, baseball I don’t during the regular season I don’t hear it that much. I don’t know what it is about the NBA. Like you said, it’s the second biggest sports league in our country. Some of they’re doing aok. Okay. Yeah. Some of it’s probably perspective. We’ve been around a while. I’ve been around longer than you, but I can remember when the NBA was really struggling. Yeah. Really struggling. And this is night and day compared to that. How would you rank them? Would you rank NFL one and NBA 2 or would you have baseball too in terms of the four major in our country? Most popular. Oh, baseball’s way down. Baseball’s like a regional sport and I love baseball. Football is like football’s almost like a whole different that’s category. Yeah. Yeah. You You know what they should do? Somebody should do. You ever seen those videos or things where like over the years things change? you know, like interest in the NFL and then all of a sudden it just Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Some sort of graph. But the NBA is in good shape. You could probably argue if you’re the NBA, you’re in the best shape you’ve ever been. TV deals, contracts, money. You’re making more money than ever before. So, to your point, why do people Yeah. There was a time way way back when where baseball was king. Um, and now we’re to a point it’s flip-flopped just and again football is a whole different thing, but we talked about it last week. You had the Chicago White Socks of baseball team wearing uniforms that honored a basketball team. Yes. That used to never happen. Baseball’s like, “We don’t even acknowledge there is basketball.” Now they’re saying, “Oh, those guys over there are cool. See, we’re cool. We’re like the No, you’re right about that. And it’s a whole different thing. Has baseball made a comeback? I don’t know. With, you know, the pitch clock and starting a guy on second and, you know, do you think it’s, you know, turning around, trending back in the right direction? So hard to say. It’s like looking at attendance numbers. Are they real? You know, and baseball can trump up this and that. Game time’s down and these numbers are up, but I don’t know how much of it is real. It does seem like they they’ve worked. The rules have worked. To what extent, I don’t know. It really I think baseball now is all about trying to get the Dodgers and the Yankees in the World Series. Right. Right. Get the big market team. That’s what the whole thing is about. Yeah. And you know, I had texted my guy um Jose says NFL and then college football is second. Okay. Then uh maybe the NBA. Yeah. uh texted my guy Brian who’s the sports reporter out there in Las Vegas about the A’s and I said, you know, do you think uh if they come to Vegas with people who get behind them? He said, yeah, they’ll go for the novelty for the away teams, but if they suck, folks won’t go. And I think that’s the same for pretty much everywhere though, right? If the product is bad, people won’t go. We saw it in Oakland. they ripped it, you know, didn’t invest in the payroll, didn’t invest in the roster, people like, “We’re not supporting this guy.” If you have an absentee owner or, you know, a bad owner, that happens in every any market, I would imagine. One thing I think the A’s have done really well, they’ve been trying to sync up being competitive with the move to Vegas. I remember the Indians did that years ago. Teams have done it where they know they’re going to have a new stadium opening and they try to manage the roster in such a way so that they’ll have young talent coming into its own just when you move into the new stadium. Yes, you the Indians did that in old Jacob’s Field. I think San Diego tried to do that in Petco. If you can do that, it’s great. The A’s, I don’t know, is this David Forest or who you give credit uh to for it, but I it looks like they’ve done a pretty good job. Now, they don’t know when they’re going to go to Vegas, and I hope they never do, but that team is close. You know, we kid about a wild card this year, but they’ve got a lot of good young talent coming together. In a couple years, they might be a really good team. And that’s if if I’m a resident of Oakland or an A’s fan locally, that pisses me off. Absolutely. All of a sudden, Absolutely. You want to keep young talent, invest in young talent. It’s Oh, yeah. It’s disgusting, Whitey. It’s disgusting if you ask me because that’s what fans were clamoring for here. That’s what they wanted John Fischer to do here for many years and now he’s going to do it. Yeah. For years you, hey, this guy’s really good. Well, don’t get too attached. Don’t get too attached. We’re about to trade him away. And now the A’s are developing young talent and putting a team together. It’s still very tricky. And you know, they may be here what, four years instead of three. And who knows if they’ll ever move to Vegas. And with baseball, you never know. But I think I can see their plan. It’s like, oo, they might actually pull that off. Right. Right. And, you know, they had a respectable season last season, came on strong in the second half, picked it right back up this season, and they’ll be in the mix. They they won’t be the White Socks. You know, they they they’ll be closer to the wild card than the White Socks this upcoming season. It sure looks like it. Uh, speaking of good ideas and things well done, tell you one thing Scott Perry has already done that’s I think very smart. See what Drapes think. See what Jay thinks. See what you think. Before we get to that, you know, I want to circle back to what we were just discussing talking about sports most impactful, most popular. Um, and we did forget college football, which would probably be right there after the NFL. Where might college basketball rank? Would it be ahead of baseball? No. You don’t think so, Jay? No. No. College hoop is only it’s only big one time. One time of the year. Yeah, but you have to take that into account. I mean, it’s pretty big for the March Madness. Yeah, but I think baseball contracts and deals outweigh March Madness. I think March Madness is people pay a lot more attention to it and I think it draws better, although I could be wrong. Uh, more than the World Series having World Series numbers has been kind of And I think one individual game or like when you say March Matt like is it uh you know what I mean? like the I I the whole thing especially the the earlier rounds I mean people it’s on all different networks people take off work maybe that’s starting to decline a little bit too I don’t know right the first weekend is definitely the biggest weekend no doubt about it when you really look back at do do do we care about the finals and how many did you guys watch the NCAA championship I don’t remember you guys yeah I don’t think I did if I did I recall it. But you’re right, for all the the uh you know the hoopla around March Madness, by the time we get to the end, sometimes people are especially if their brackets are busted, it’s like, eh, I don’t really care. I’m out. Yeah, it’s so big when it is big. Um Yeah, but when’s the last time it’s been huge as far as you remember the common theme of throughout the whole tournament being huge? Normally, it’s it’s March Madness. Get your brackets ready, turn them in, and then after that, like you said, once you’re done, it’s hoham. Villanova 1985. Going back. Going back. I I did watch the final four cuz we were on the road and watched it and those were good games. Ramsay says college football is regional as well on the text line. I think it’s a that’s a West Coast and the Northeast is not big. Yeah, really. It’s not big in the Northeast either. How about the Southeast? stay paid. Yeah, a little just a just a little bit. Just a little bit. Just a little bit. So, it it’s college football is uh is interesting because I think it’s going through a a different, you know, a different pace of what it’s known to be. And now that the playoffs are here, it’s going to be interesting the next two or three or four years to see if that’s a big big ordeal or not. As well, I tell you Jay, as you know, great news. Now, Nick Sabin’s in charge of college sports. Golden problems solved. Yeah. Woo. That’s great. Uh, okay. All right. So, college basketball, uh, you say baseball’s way more popular, Jay. This Yeah, I baseball. Yeah, I think so. Baseball and Dre can speak to this for sure being out in Boston. The We have a West Coast bias. There’s definitely 100%. Absolutely. But we as West Coast people, the community, we also have to kind of take a little bit of that credit as well. We aren’t as passionate about certain things that you hear. I mean, we just played the rant in Boston. Mhm. It’s a It’s amazing how crazy sometimes sports can be in the north the east in the northeast seabboard. Absolutely. Compared. And that goes along the side of college football like Ramsay is talking about is very regional. We have to take some of that on us, too. We got great fans in the West Coast, but we are ho h about certain stuff as well, right? We’re not supporting, you know, our local West Coast teams as much as we need to. We’re a national football market here in Sacramento. One of the best actually. But how many times have we considered I mean, how many times have we been talking about the momentum of SAK State? But where’s Stanford? Who talking about Stanford right now? Yeah, that’s the thing. What’s going on with Cal right now? Yeah, I worked at a station once. To your point, Jay, um there was a PD and he was a really good PD and he’s done very well. He was from Philadelphia. So, he comes out here and he’s doing some stuff that they did back there and to some of them my reaction was, “What are you doing?” You know, but it was because it was just that whole different mentality and mindset. Yeah. Why do you think that is? Because like some professional sports, Niners, people are raiding about Kings, Warriors. Why not the college sports? Well, I know why it’s that way around here. I mean, Stanford’s been good and some, you know, some things. Cal’s been good. You know, it’s not like they’ve been the dregs, you know, for the last 50 years. They’ve they’ve been on the big stage cuz we’re smarter out here. We just understand things better. It’s like it’s college football. That’s right. It’s nice, but those kids should be, you know, Jay’s shoot, Jay’s big time college fan over here. Well, sure. You know, nothing wrong with being I don’t know what why that is. Yeah. I’ I’ve tried to figure it out a lot of my life. I will say part of it to me becomes Cal. When you when you say west coast, what do you think about California, right? Like the West Coast, who the hell’s thinking about, man, you from Asheford, Oregon. Like Ashlin, nobody cares about Medford, Oregon. You don’t get that type of respect, right? And so when you really look at California, we probably have, and it’s no disrespect to the rest of these schools, we probably have a three to four race type university when it comes to major sports, but we got hundreds of colleges, the Fittons, the Long Beach, the UC Davises, you know, all these different I mean, San Marcos, there’s so many different schools, but it’s UC, USC, UCLA, Cal, Stanford. Is anybody really talking about anything else? San Diego State’s close, right? Close. Fresno State, they bump up every now and then in football. Glad you mentioned that cuz our boss is listening. No, no problem. You see where I was going, right? And normally I leave Fresno State out of it. Yeah, I was there if you didn’t go. But really, fellas, what else? How compare that to down south or, you know, to the the Midwest in certain instances where they don’t have professional sports and it gets a little more ravid. Sure. Yeah. So, I’m not sure why the West Coast hasn’t dove into we don’t go out and support Santa Cruz hoop. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, you know, the SEC football, it’s almost like a professional league. For sure. Right. Big 10. Yeah. ACC, they’ve kind of operated that way for years. Mhm. Big 12 was huge in football for many years. Nebraska’s and all, you know, you go to Nebraska, they shut go down there, Lincoln is shut down. Yeah. But even you go back to the glory days of UCLA and I was just a kid. It was huge. But people just don’t have the same around here the same mindset towards it. Some people do, but people aren’t as, for lack of a better term, rabbit about it here, right? you know, how much of it do you think is in the Southeast there aren’t as many professional sports teams, you know, uh, you know, NFL, NBA, whereas out here we you know, we’re are Would you consider us a more professional sports market here in Northern California? Giants, AS, you know, that’s the same thing as the Northeast. You know, it’s you got so many professional sports teams. And then I look in the Midwest, maybe not as many, you know, definitely plays a part in. Yeah. Yeah. I would suggest that perhaps people in Sacramento tend to be more rabid than Bay Area fans. And I, you know, I’m not trying to start something. You’re about to start it. We don’t have as many teams. We have one team and maybe that’s it. It’s a one team. But I remember years ago when they wanted to test market a product, they tended to do it in Sacramento because Sacramento was more of a cross-section more similar to like bigger parts of the like the Midwest where it wasn’t just California. So I think maybe um you know that’s why in Sacramento people say it’s more it’s like a college atmosphere at the Kings games. I think there’s a difference between Sacramento the market and the Bay Area markets and the way fans Yeah. And like I said, if I was pressed on it, I don’t know that I have a lot of evidence, but it just feels that way, right? Yeah. Yeah. There’s a feeling. Yeah. And there are great rabbid fans in the Barry, too. Oakland Ace fans were like, they’re tremendous fans. Mhm. Chris with the K says, “West Coast has better weather and we’d rather be outside.” I think that has a lot to do with it. Yeah. That’s why you got a team. You want me to cut the game? I got a lot of other stuff I can do out here. So, the it better be good. Part of it. It’s the I’ve told this story before and getting recruited, Midwest and East Coast teams would, you know, they wouldn’t even throw the name in the hat. And as I start to talk to Midwest and East Coast teams, I got I got this from many coaches. Why you want to come out here? Yeah. Yeah. From California, you’re the land of milk and honey when it comes to baseball. Tell you, you don’t want to come here. You don’t want to come here. We don’t we don’t even touch the field until May. We play on the road the first, you know, 25 games. Yes. Yes. That’s interesting. Mhm. All right. It’s also interesting what’s going on with Sacramento Kings. What do you guys think of this? I think one thing that Scott Perry has done very well so far, he’s tamped down expectations a little bit. He hasn’t talked a lot about we’re going to make the playoffs this year. We’re going to snap this latest streak. We’re going to be he said we’re going to be um sustained competitiveness is what our goal is. He hasn’t even mentioned, I don’t think, since he’s been here, we are going to build a championship team. You know, that’s what he wants to do. Everyone wants that. Don’t misunderstand me. He hasn’t once mentioned that. And I get the sense that maybe they’re trying to tamp down expectations a little bit, perhaps because there’s going to be a little bit of a reset. Um, but I think the expectations for the Kings had become a little burdensome because after they won the 48 games, everyone was thinking, “All right, we should be that close to a championship. What’s wrong?” So I think it’s a smart approach. You do? Yes. You disagree? Do you agree even with me that they seem to be tamping down expectations? I I don’t know if I agree 100% with that either, but let’s say they are. I say expectations publicly versus privately might be different, which sure. You know what I mean? like yeah it’s um you know uh you know but my my push back on that is we got we won 40 games. Mhm. What are what what would be tampering expectations from 40 games like 36 34 like or you know what I mean? Like don’t expect we’re not necessarily all in on winning 50 games with this team next year. Maybe they will be. I don’t think they know yet what they’re doing with the roster, but I’ve just noticed there’s not as much of the bold, you know, like when Vlad would say, “We’re not going to be in the lottery anymore. This is last year we’re going to be in the lottery.” And good for him. It won’t be a quick turnaround, a quick fix. Yeah. You hear all the time you hear GMs, we’re that we’re putting together champion. We’re about winning championships here and they haven’t gone there and I think it’s smart not to do that. Yeah. I don’t know. I I don’t know if it’s intentional. you know, it it it’s you know, I don’t know if they thought about the messaging like, hey, we don’t want to, you know, I don’t know. Um I I don’t know where I stand on this, Whitey, because I do kind of want somebody to galvanize the fan base, get the fan base fired up, you know what I mean? I do, you know, but but then follow through with it. Uh, you know, when it comes to Scott Perry, you know, I think he’s probably the type he’s going to let his work do the talking, the moves he makes. You know, that’ll be shown, you know, proof in the pudding there. He’s not going to talk a good game. He’s going to show you a good game. Um, I don’t know. I I I don’t I I don’t know on that one to be honest. There could be another big reason why they’ve been tamping down expectations. We’ll look at that when we come right back to Sacktown Sports. Alan Styles here with your Sacktown Sports injury update brought to you by Downtown LA Law Group. The only station in Sacramento giving you local sports coverage from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sack Town Sports. Good to hear Allan Styles there on those commercials. We weren’t able to hear him today. We had Jose program director who’s done a lot of radio work filling in. Uh and it was great. It was great because Jose always the one telling us everybody on air here at station, you know, you got a break here. You got to get to commercial here, here, here, here. He blew through his break. Blew through it. Yeah. So much so I came in and thought I had missed cross talk. Yeah. Yeah. And it hadn’t even started yet. And that’s great. habitual line stepper. That’s great because the next time we’re in a meeting and hey, you guys didn’t break at this time. Just, you know, we’ll get that air check of Jose ready and Oh yeah. You mean like this? Yeah. Practice what you practice what you preach, Jose. Practice what you preach. Yeah. But it was nice. I was cross. How was that for you? It’s good. It was nice to see somebody who’s just, you know, so happy to be on the air. I work with a guy that, you know, he’s always, oh, I want to take this a time off and that time off. Yeah, I understand. Drapes is going drapes, bro. Exactly. When you’re the LeBron James of the station, Big Bell, you know, it’s a lot on my shoulders, Whitey. I I deserve a day off here. I know that. You know what I mean? I I know that. When the lights are the brightest, I’ll be there for you, Big. Yeah. Um Yeah, we missed you on the crossover today. Yeah. I I thought I missed it and then I couldn’t go in cuz you know Allan Styles listens around the clock. He He listens. He probably would have been listening and if I would have came in, he would have been in his feelings and everything. So, I didn’t want to hurt his feelings. Well, that’s really nice. Always thinking about it. That’s really nice. We’ve been talking about the Kings and in my view, it sounds like maybe Scott Perry is just being careful with expectations so far, and you don’t necessarily agree with that, right? No, I don’t I don’t necessarily Yeah. Okay. We have this from Spencer Lamins. He says, “It’s like when I go to a movie with high expectations and I’m disappointed, but if I go in not knowing anything, sometimes you’re pleasantly surprised.” Yeah. there’s no ant disappointment. So maybe it’s not intentional. Maybe it means nothing. But it could also be this. It could be Scott Perry looking around at the landscape of the league and his roster and not necessarily knowing what he’s going to be able to do. So for him to say, “We’re going to do this. We’re going to do that. We’re going to win a championship.” Maybe he looks at it and goes, “I’d like to do that. We’ll have to see how things go.” And he doesn’t want to, you know, make promises that he won’t be able to keep. So that’s smart. Also, if that’s the case, if that’s the case, but he’s a veteran, he’s a smart guy, been around the block a lot. And I also think he looks at this roster and what we have going on and see is this going to be hard. Like, there’s no magic pill that, you know, next season we’re going to be all of a sudden championship contenders. And if he is tampering down the expectations, I think that’s to, and this is going to come out wrong, but buy him some time. meaning of course it’s gonna take three four two three years to really get a so yeah it’s it’s sort of you know don’t expect this overnight right kind of when it comes to the you don’t want to say that and again we don’t even know if that’s the case but you don’t want to say that to people like I’m new in town and by the way you know first couple years it’s going to be yeah and so to your point you you know that is smart uh you know just for himself you know it if he comes in uh championship or bust or anything like that, then it’s like, you know who uh did that? Matt Ishbia down there in Phoenix came in talking all big and bad and that backfired in the worst way for him. And so, you know, if he would have came in a little more humble, you know, yeah, we’re going to build something that’s going to take some time, but you know, we’ll have a product that, you know, this city is proud of and we’ll have sustained, you know, success here. I want diversity of thought with unity of purpose. Ah, I need a t-shirt with that. I need a t-shirt or a bumper sticker with that or something like that. But yeah, so he didn’t come in making all these no, you know, all this noise, promising big changes and everything like that. Sort of, you know, limping into the job, you know, tiptoeing it, if you will. And as you keep pointing out, and it’s so true, as impatient as a lot of us are, as impatient as I am, certainly to find out who’s going to be the team, what are we doing? He just got here. Just got here. Yeah. And actually some things have happened. You know, we got an assistant GM, assistant coach, head coach been named Doug Christie. So they’re doing some things. I would love to hear, you know, more about the coaching staff. Fill it out. Bobby Jackson, is he going to be here? Darius Sgala, is he going to be here as well? But some things have happened here in Sacramento regarding Can I ask you about the very end of the bench? I know that’s something we don’t spend a lot of time on. What you got? You got a handful of guys that I believe are free agents like Jay Crowder. Uhhuh. Yeah. Doug McDermott. Yeah. Um Markel Folultz I believe. Yeah. Team option I believe. And we know that Trey Lyles is potentially a free agent and I think there’s there might be somebody else I’m missing who doesn’t play much. But you’ve also got Okay. So are those guys worth bringing back? You know, we we’ve talked about maybe Markeel Folultz, some of the older players probably if they want to move on, it’s time to move on. But how about like somebody like Mason Jones? uh and Isaac Jones like giving them full contracts to me and I understand why some of those guys were brought in last year and I like those guys as players, but I’d rather have like Mason Jones who still could find his way. I know he’s been around the league a long time. Um I think he’s more valuable on the bench because there’s still kind of a we don’t know what his ceiling is rather than a veteran player is like, you know, at this point doesn’t have much left, but I sometimes I may need him. I disagree. Um, I think one of the issues this team needs has is a veteran that will push them. Um, you know, Mason Jones, great locker room guy, you know, uh, you know, our guy. Yeah. Um, and I know he’s in the G-League, people think, oh, he’s a kid. He’s been around a while. Been around. Been around. You know, I I think, you know, we need somebody that’s going to light a fire in the locker room. And most of the times that’s a bad guy. I don’t I don’t view definitely don’t view Isaac Jones that way. Uh Mason Jones, I I don’t view that way. Um I’d like Jay Crowder to come back. I I think and I would like Doug to even use him a little more. I’m not saying 15 minutes, 20 minutes. But damn, Jay Crowder went months it seemed like without playing. Yeah, Whitey like and so it’s hard to to be a voice in the locker room when you’re brand new and you don’t play. Well, he was always wearing he he had a bad back or something. Yeah, I got one of those things, too. I actually got one of those uh little back things. What it is is heat and massage on your back. I do it two or three times a day. It feels good. Um he would always have that on and he did deal with you know but I’m looking at it he went whitey from December 16th well he was on the Mike Brown plan which is get here start we’re never going to hear from you his first game he played 27 minutes then he played 20 and it dropped off 11 11 12 five he went from December 16th to January 14th didn’t play then from January 14th to March 29th, he went two and a half months, Whitey without playing the game. Mhm. You got to play him. You got even in mop-up duty, even for two minutes because you play him, he goes out there ideally, plays hard, lays it on the line, comes with a veteran mindset, stays ready, and now he can talk to the younger players. This dude was a glorified, you know, uh not even assistant coach, right? He he wasn’t even on the level of an assistant coach. He was uh didn’t get that much playing time. So, uh you know, you started off, you know, you’d rather see Mason Jones get that. I don’t know who’s Mason playing over. You know, at least a veteran like Jay Crowder provides something. I will say, was he hurt? Is that why he didn’t play? I mean, I was assuming he did. He had the back issue, but he still practiced and everything, right? And he wasn’t injured. Right. Right. He, you know, he was questionable a lot of times and everything like that, but there’s no way he was injured for two and a half months. Mhm. I mean, damn. Like, he he should have played more. I’m sorry. Like, and that goes to show you the difference between the coaches. And I understand Mike, you know, tailed off from him, too. But game one, you just hop off the plane and you play 27 minutes. That’s unheard of. Whitey, you get the start. They signed him when Keegan was out a little bit, right? Because they needed a a forward. Yeah. Yeah. He started his first two games and then you go to not playing at all. Make it make sense to me, people. It doesn’t make sense. Mhm. That’s why I think the Kings are still in to a degree talent acquisition mode. um not to the extent that like Charlotte is because Charlotte is still just trying to they’re still in their rebuild. So I’d rather have guys at the end of the bench that um you know maybe they might get to play and I still don’t know how good they are um and maybe there’s maybe there’s something there rather than the veterans we I know what their ceiling is and I know that also it’s getting lower and lower and that’s just Are you trying to win? Is this on a winning team or a team that’s still trying to rebuild and find like are we in the factbinding mission or are we in the winning mission right now? I think the Kings are somewhere in between. Okay, maybe I’m wrong, but I think that may be where they end up where like, yeah, we’re trying. You know, you could be a team that’s still looking for young players and looking for answers and still challenged for the playin, which last year you were all in and the playin is all you got, right? The west is tough, so maybe not. It’s not easy. Not easy. But, you know, look at what Chicago did last year. I know they were in the East. They moved off some big pieces and they got some younger pieces in. Not like they have the Oh, they have the greatest young roster. No, but they have young pieces and they still got into the playin. Right. Right. Uh, see, but again, that was in the East. That was in the East. And when you look at our roster, we got a veteran roster at the top. So, where are those young guys getting those minutes? Where are those young guys getting that opportunity to get out there, make mistakes, learn on the fly, and that kind of thing. Demar is playing 30 plus, Zach’s playing 30 plus, Dom’s playing 30 plus. Keegan’s playing 30 plus. There’s no minutes for these guys. Whereas on the Bulls team, young guys, you know, majority young players on that team outside of Vevich, I think, and so they can go out there and run and have fun and learn. Same thing with Orlando as Paulo and those guys were coming up. We got veterans that ideally are trying to win now. Like we’re almost on two different timets with some of our roster here. Right. Right. That’s why to me Demar is in the way of what you’re trying to do just because of where he is in his career. again, not because of anything about him. He was brought here to help take a team uh that was fringy uh contender, put him in solidly into contender status, and it didn’t work. And it wasn’t all his fault. But now you try that again. I you know, like we were talking today, who was it that Sam Sam Samos? Samos said maybe they run it back. I was shocked when he said that just because I was like I was assuming that that is off the board. And if that’s off the board, then you’re not going to have all those guys. But do you have to now guys view it as everything’s on the table? Like I I don’t think it will be for lack of tri. You know, Sam made the point. You don’t have to do anything right now. You have until February. So it could be more factf finding. I don’t know. I I believe, you know, uh uh Perry, Scott Perry, and those guys have seen all they need to see. They know these are veteran guys. He’s a and it’d be different if we had a bunch of young players. These are guys that have been in the league years. They know what Demar is. They know what Zack Doas is. And so, you know, I’ I’d be shocked, too, if they just ran it back. Me, too. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But like you say, Monday they win the lottery, that changes. Yes. Yes. So, what am I worried about? I’m ready, Wayne. I’m ready. Uh, when we come back, the best worst finals matchups for the NBA. What are they next on Sackdown Sports? Uh he expected to be fined for his dancing celebration in which he was kind of uh you know his own ball rack there um checking if everything was fully inflated. He received only a warning letter from the league office. According to a person with knowledge uh of the situation, Hallebertton said, “I’ve been waiting for that. I’ve been waiting for that. Um it was just right in the moment. It was right in the moment.” Yeah, man. I’ve been waiting for that. I’ll take that fine gladly. There will be just a warning and no fine. Man, Tyrese, you know, he’s the darling of the NBA. People love him and he getting away with one there. Yeah. Okay. Maybe the league says, you know, he’s kind of the fresh kid. Everyone loves him. We don’t want to draw attention to what he did, right? We we already, you know, punished his dad. His dad wasn’t even there, you know, to see it. Yeah. If we find him, some people go, “What’ they find him for? I didn’t see it.” Then they’ll see it and they’ll think draw attention to it. I thought he was a nice boy. That’s true. He doesn’t want that. Meanwhile, Steph Curry, not sure how long it’s going to take him to recover from his grade one left hamstring strain, and he calls it a gut punch. This is new from all that I’m learning about how quickly you can get back. There has to be a healing process. He said that before uh uh shoot around today or at shoot around today. You can’t accelerate it more than what it’s telling you. So it’ll be one of those after a week really re-evaluating every day to understand when it’s safe just to think about playing, let alone how much you can push it. Okay. He was I saw a report maybe you saw it. I think he was in tears when he found out that heard Yeah, I saw that report. Uh, I heard Anthony Slater talking about that as well. And so, uh, get well soon, Steph. First time he’s had a hamstring, he said. Yeah. Mhm. Yeah. How about this real quick, Whitey? I’m looking at this. Um, you know, we’re about to watch Warriors Wolves tip off here. And I came across something very interesting. Uh, Substack. I don’t even know this guy. Mark Stein is on. Yeah, it’s Mark Stein. This guy Owen Phillips wrote this story called Draymond Green’s Magic Trick. One of the things he says, quote, “This season, Green has gotten away with seven illegal plays that he should have been whistled for, but wasn’t.” That’s according to the two-minute reports uh out there. Since 202021, Draymond has been guilty of committing a foul violation in 31 similarly illegal plays that weren’t called in the moment, but should have been. That’s second most among all NBA players behind only Bam out of bio who had 32. And how many Draymond have? 31. That’s incredible. I never even thought about that. So Draymond, you’re not talking about like technicals or flak. Oh, these are just regular plays. Violations not called properly in the two-minute report. Draymond getting a fair, you know, a a good whistle the last two minutes of games. Who would have thought? Interesting, right? And he got the whole list here. Um, Nola Joic has gotten a fuzzy end of the lollipop more than any other player in recent years, but he’s also frequently been the benefactor of no call. So, Joic, good and bad. And then there’s Draymond. He says, um, he says we could chalk it up to the fact that Draymond plays center, a position that’s naturally going to put him in situations where fouls are likely to occur, and so it’s not fair to expect the refs to see all that, you know, and everything like that. That’s interesting. Two things, you know, they don’t tend to call as many fouls at the very end of games, right? Mhm. Uh, and he, well, three. and he is a really good defender. But then the other thing, you got the warrior factor, right? You don’t want to lose. Is that a real thing? Don’t you think? Of course I think that. You know, the league wants Steph and and those guys to uh, you know, advance, you know. No, I I don’t know about that. But I I I do think, you know, independent of this to an extent, Draymond plays a style that is physical, abrasive, and we’ve heard coaches I’ve heard coaches say they can’t call everything. And so he sort of pushes it to the limit, you know. Yeah. Um he definitely does that. It’s interesting. According to the Oh, shoot. Here you go. Damont Sabonis is on this list right here. Really? Yeah. Uh, how often players are called for a foul when they actually committed one? This is the last twominute report. Damont Sabonis since 2021 has subject been subject to 67 correct foul calls in the last two minutes. 29 incorrect or no calls in the last two minutes. Comparatively, Bam Adabio 32, Draymond 31, Giannis 27, Jokic 27. So basically what this means is since 2021, there have been 29 times where Domas has either either benefited from a no call or incorrectly was whistled for a foul, you know, and according to this list, that’s third most in the NBA. Okay. So, if he’s fouled and they don’t call it, that is not right. Incorrect. No calls. Okay. This is involvement. You know, are you involved in this play or not? So, a lot of centers it sounds like are on the list. Lot of big men. This list that I see right here, uh, they list three, six, nine. Oh, Zack Lavine’s also on this list as well. among the non big men on this list like Tatum, Finny Smith, um Zack Lavine, Shay Gilas, and then the rest are bigs. Shay more of a driver, right? Taking it to the hoop. I could see that. Finny Smith is on here because of his percentage. Um Zach is on here. Zach had 18 incorrect no calls since 2021. I don’t know what this all means or anything like that, but I thought it interesting that Bam and Draymond and then now our boy Sabonis are in the same category with them. The centers get away with a lot and they’re also the victims a lot of pain. Yeah. At the end of games referees now they’re like right play on. Yep. Yep. That’s blood splattered on me. I’m not calling anything. You know me, I’m looking for anything that I can hold against Draymond. You know that I’m looking deep into these numbers. Like, uhhuh, I knew it. Jay doesn’t believe it. But Draymond says before game seven in Houston, he’s he’s turned over a new leaf. He said he met with the the his teammates, you know, cuz game six he had set that early screen that was a flagrant. Yeah. And everyone on the team said that to really hurt the team. So, he says he’s learned his lesson. Jay is very skeptical, but I I don’t know. Oh, I think maybe we’re seeing a new Draymond. Not I think that’s going to be shortived. Disciplined. It’s going to be shortlived, Whitey. Disciplined. Wolves up 8-0. Draymond about to be frustrated. Probably do something dirty. And we need to let it go more than one game. It’s been one game, right? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. By the way, you didn’t say anything about Pat Spencer in the last game throwing in that hook shot. Spencer over Dreus Randall. My son Nick said he looks like a Lowe’s worker, a Home Depot worker, something like Pat Spencer. How’s this? He doesn’t help by wearing the t-shirt under the jersey, right? With like a a pack of cigarettes, right? Right. Rolled up the sleeve and everything. Like, come on, man. Pat Spencer out there getting buckets. Running hook. It’s good. Ah, you know, Draymond was asked about Pat Spencer, and Draymond talked about when he was coming from injury, you know, they play one-on-one and he thought, “Oh, I’m going get the best of Pat Spencer.” He said Pat Spencer kicked his butt really in the one-on-one competition. Yeah. When he was coming back from injury, Draymond was coming back from injury. Uh, by the way, best and worst finals matchups for the for the NBA. Okay. Not you personally, but what do you think the league, what do they most want to see, which I think would be Golden State Boston, maybe. Yeah. Yeah. Golden State, Boston. And the worst maybe or or New York in there somewhere else. Yeah, New York. Yeah, New York. Golden State. Yeah. Or Minnesota. Cleveland. Would that be the worst? Again, I know those No, Pacers probably would be the worst, right? Pacers, Denver, maybe. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Do you got some uh stats to back that up or no? No votes or anything? No stats. Yeah. But you know what’s interesting about that? All these teams have individuals that are attractive though, but they’re not like the Pacers are a fun team to watch, but they’re not sexy. They’re not, you know, they’re not New York. What’s the worst in terms of personal like I don’t want to see these two teams? For me personally, it would for me I I’ll answer this while you think about this. It would be Knicks Warriors. I don’t want to see that. Two insufferable fan bases. We’d have the NBA finals down the street. Yeah. You know, D would be rolling up for that. Please. I’d pick up knitting or something. I like Cleveland. I just them in the finals to me doesn’t do much. Uh in the West, it’s tough, right? OKC Denver, but I wouldn’t really. Yeah, Denver Cleveland wouldn’t do. That would that would be bad for you. Yeah. Wait, man. Did you say you was going to take up knitting knitting or something during NBA fight with Golden State’s in it? Actually, I might try and go to a game. I I I would wearing King’s gear. Best believe wearing Kings gear though. I would definitely do that. I Yeah. Jay, do you have a a least favorite finals matchup? Boston probably. Boston for sure. I’ll go uh Boston Denver. Okay. Boston Denver. All right. Yeah. All right. Yeah. Give me some fresh blood. Mhm. Give me I’ll take the Pacers. I would I like the Pacers. Big uh Nimhard fan. Smith fan. You’re blam. Yeah, he’s my guy. OKC Pacers. Okay. Tyrese. Yeah. Yeah, that’d be a good one. White is way back machine quiz. It’s always fun. And it’s next on Sack Town Sports.
