Fixing the Atlanta Hawks! | Coley & Trill Rebuild a Broken Team

Tyler, is this the last we’ve seen on one Trey Young playing for the Atlanta Hawks or Niet? Will he persevere? Is this his franchise or is it someone else’s? Has Jaylen Johnson taken the reigns as the top bird, the biggest bird? That’s my question for you here today. I’m the biggest burr. I don’t about this Jaylen Johnson business. I don’t know what you don’t know what you’ve heard. But I’m Don’t know what you heard. Don’t know what you heard. I’m the biggest. I’m the biggest. No. TB. I I know how I feel. I I’ll ask uh a non-hawks appreciator. What do you is Trey Young? What is the next move? It’s relevant. It’s been a question every day before and after every single game. It’s it’s relevant now. Drafted. Yeah. Uh this year, after this upcoming year, I should say, Trey Young can opt out and become a free agent. That’s why I think that’s a question that matters now. So, I I’ll flip the script on you, Mick. What would you do as we as we embark on on rebuilding every [ __ ] NBA franchise? We’re not starting with the Hawks because they’re the most [ __ ] In fact, quite the opposite. They’re for years now, they’ve been the most mid that mid can be, which is why I think they’re a good place to start because they have options. I personally don’t think trading Trey Young is an option I would consider. He’s too good. like I I would just keep surrounding him with better players. This isn’t a team that’s belabored by the salary of Trey Young. They It’s not like they’re capable of making moves. They don’t have assets frozen. They got most of if not all the assets they gave up for DeJonte Murray right back. Uh so this is a team that has plenty of wiggle room and I I would not like Trey Young. He’s not old. You know what I mean? None of the negatives that would come. Not as young as he was yesterday. That’s a I mean, it’s a true truer and truer by the second. Some are arguing, but nothing about him and his situation tells me, “Oh, this is the guy we need to get rid of to fix things.” I think they hit on Reese Archer in a way that exceeded my expectation. I think everyone who’s spoken about Zachary Ree ever, he’s exceeded their expectations just as a rookie. Uh, even if that doesn’t quadruple in terms of production, I think he has proven to be a quality NBA starter. I wouldn’t even say player, I’d say starter. Jaylen Johnson before he got hurt, I think it was going to be an all-star last year. And I don’t think that’s like a a me take. I think that’s just what was going to happen. Uh, and I think Okongu, especially the last two months of the season, kind of showed what people thought he was going to look like when he got drafted. Was he third? Fourth pick in his dress, but in that range. Yeah. Third plus, fourth pick. Listen, these days it’s all the same thing. I don’t know if you saw the Shadur number math as to why he picked 12, but it was a lot of Kendrick Lamar fan uh speak, which which I’m familiar with. So, I was I was I was I was peeping the math. As a dot connector, I know what that means. [Music] Uh oh. Is that K fans? dot connectors. I I thought you did that on purpose. Yeah, I think that’s perfect. I Triple Antre. Don’t even ask me how. So, yeah. I’m I don’t know. I think this is why they’re a good team to start with because I think they’re the most difficult to start with because I don’t really know what they they have a lot if like if if everyone just heard what I said like most teams that we talk about are not going to have four players that I like and that I didn’t even talk about the Great Barrier Thief and people like that. like they have a lot of of players that I think a lot of other teams would jump at if they became available. So, I wouldn’t make any of them avail. None of them are available. Flip the script on the script. Flipping of the original flip script. Choose your own adventure. It’s just me punching through the book right you in the face. Just eating the book with a fork and knife, man. Because again, this is an eight seed 40 and 42. uh somehow didn’t do their their math or they had exactly 500 once you factor in the playins this that and the third but over the last what three years and the NBA cup I’m sure it’s like uh 500 on the dot preseason summer league it’s all 500 on the dot they are perfectly balanced at the end of the day even if I can’t see it here I just know somewhere some way um but I don’t know even if you look just ahead of them in the east the Orlando Magic are kind of you as well. Like they need to I think they they need to find a Trey Young whereas you already have the Trey Young. I might have a Trey Young like you uh Trey Young. I think it comes down to like this is the time to who there’s no GM yet. Uh me and the McMahon are ava are literally available. Um I think you do have to have that. This is our resume for real on for the next 14 teams. Sun’s coming next. Yeah, this is a team that will h should have a lottery pick but cannot get the number one pick. So, we’re starting with them. The draft lottery will not affect them. I do think it’s time to have that conversation with Trey. He’s at 46 million this year. Has a player option for next year. He’s eligible for four for 229. If he makes AllNBA, that jumps up to five for 345. If it was me, I can’t do five for 340. Like even if you make I I just don’t think I can do that. I don’t know if I could do four for 229. Like I might have to negotiate all like if I offer Trey Young four for 200. Is he insulted by Is that Is he so insulted? It’s like we get me out of here right now. You offered me $200 million. I think it gets a little overblown the negotiating uh of it all. Like I think there was definitely a stretch in the not so distant past where guys would just like flip the table and leave if it wasn’t Max or nothing. Yeah, I think we’re past that. I don’t want to give Jaylen Brown all the credit, but he he was like the first of these guys to like take the four take the four again and then he became the highest paid player in NBA history for like a year and that’s since been Trump’s. But, uh, you’ve seen this this wave of guys taking three just so they can get more bites of the apple. That I’ll give LeBron credit for. He once he once he took that Miami haircut, he was like, I’ll never do that [ __ ] again. It’s just since figured out the way to really cook him and Chris Paul, honestly. But I wouldn’t I would start there. I’d be like, Trey, we’re the three-year max. If if it’s a two plus one, we can just you’ll make more money and we won’t be as as hamstrung. And he’s I know he’s an Adidas guy, too. So, I know he I know Trey Young’s not hurting for it. I think this is Jordan now. Oh, that’s right. He did switch. My ap Well, he has that Adidas money. I know that I know he has he still spins. Yeah, they still uh his like his first shoe did go not crazy, not like ant crazy, but it was big. Like it wasn’t a small debut by any means. It was a I’m I’m offering him the three. I would go to that 4220. I think five 345 is going to be reserve. I think that will be reserved for like the Tatums because he just signed what 314 last year like the Ants. Like I don’t know that outside of like the top seven or eight guys and some of them like Luca can’t even sign that because he was traded. So like they’re that’s going to be reserved for certain guys. I don’t know that Trey’s there and I don’t Trey doesn’t strike me as a guy who doesn’t know that. I would agree with that. It’s just in general like I think like these guys want to be paid fair. The last contract, the one that I was looking at similar, Jamal Murray just signed four for 208. So I’d be offered like four for 200 or in that in that range, right? It’s like, okay, yeah, we can negotiate if he wants to like the full two for 29. Like probably I I looked at like some salary cap projections. He was at 31% of the cap this past year. If he takes that deal, by the end of it, it’s like 25% of the cap. Like the NBA cap is on like similar time as the NFL. It’s just going to keep you’re just going to keep getting a bigger and bigger piece of the pie. So, the more you can lock in, the sooner you can lock in, the better. Now, if he does say it’s max or bust, do you max or do you you do some busting like uh 345? Cuz I would go with that. Yeah, he’s got to make the AllNBA for the 345. Um, which what did I have him third and you had right? It’s I think I have like honorable mention. He’ll be always in that mix. So, him making it is not out of the question. No, at all. No. Uh, I’m comfortable with the two. Like I just said, I’m not super comfortable giving most guys that five. Um, and I think here’s the other part, too. It’s like, all right, yeah, we can trade you. You know, you’re not going to get that from someone else. Like, you legally can’t. So I think that’s where you get a lot of leverage in the negotiating as well. I would hope like it maybe he’s saying the right things. Of course he wants to keep it an option that he can get five for 345 of course but it seems like he does want to stay again I would like to keep him but for all the reasons you said ear if he says it’s max or bust I’m still feeling not heartbroken because of all the other things you mentioned at any other time during Trey’s career he just hasn’t had anybody with like rookie of the year potent like recent he didn’t win it but he was up there Dyson didn’t win deepo but he was up there he won most improve Jaylen Johnson didn’t make an all-star But if he stays healthy, he’s on that trajectory. He’s never had, I don’t think, one piece with that type of potential going forward. The other four starters on this team are 24 or younger and all paid or on rookie contracts and and cost controlled. So, I I feel pretty good either way, but yes, I would like to get that deal done. If he wants to be here, let’s get it done because then you have to ask yourself, it’s it’s time to pay Dyson Daniels, too. What do you pay him? What do you pay him? Pretty reasonable if I had to guess. What’s reasonable though? Because I thought so, too. And then I looked at some like recent contract extensions for guys at similar points in their career. So, what’s what’s reasonable now with the growing cap? That Well, that’s what I It’s hard to throw out like I’m almost going to throw out a a cap percentage because we won’t know reasonable until day one of free agency. Uh, it gets it gets redefined seemingly every off season. Like what when Avery Bradley signed four for 32, people were like, “How the [ __ ] are you going to build a team around that albatross $8 million deal?” It was 95% of the cap, but like immediately it was like a.5% of the cap. Like the next offseason I was like, “Oh, okay. That’s actually fine.” Yeah, it was always fine. Like what are you talking about? So that’s where it’s just like was it last offseason teams weren’t signing anyone unless they were like max guys like it was it there was an offseason recently where the middle class which I view Dyson Daniels as an and that may be slightly generous even with how good the defense is. Um, so I know like is that $12 million player? Is that a $18 million player? I think 18 depending on how like how much of that the cap is like 10% of the cap is probably the max I can give Dyson Daniels. If you said Trey was what, 25 off the max. Trey, if he takes the New Deal by the end of it, it would be around 25% of it. Yeah, I think he’s So maybe 12 and a half% like what? He’s half of Trey’s max is like that’s how much I can give you. I can’t give you more than that. I asked because the recent like defender defense first guys that have gotten paid. Herb Jones got four for 54. If he take if Dyson’s ready to take that, I I’d pay him out of the owner’s pocket today. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Agreed. Lou Dor got five for 88. Alex Caruso just got four for 81. Then it gets into uh McDaniels got five for 136. Jaylen Suggs last year had a good had a year. He shot better, but nothing else was better than Dyson Daniels past year and he got five for 150, right? So that’s why I’m like that’s why I’m like what’s reasonable now? Yeah, cuz if it’s like an alldefense wing/perimeter again, Jay McDaniels got 20 like 26 27 Caruso getting 20 to come off the bench. Like I think that number is going to start with a 20 million 25 again maybe 30 if Suggs is if Suggs contract is they’re saying yeah now we we value guard defense so much now that was also his rookie top five max with the team that drafted him. So it’s like Daniels can’t for the by bylaws cannot attain I think if you’re traded while still on your rookie contract I believe you can think that I think that’s the rule. So that’s true. So he can’t if he just says yet like Jaylen sug me or nothing. I like I I get why the Magic did that with Suggs? You get why they did it with McDaniels? Why Minnesota? At the time I didn’t hate it, but that was pre everything getting like that was part of the reason they had to get rid of Cat this last off season. So, it was like if they knew the laws were changing, I don’t know if they would have done that. That was different. Maybe they did that knowing we going to get are we are going to or can get rid of the $60 million. Timberwolves don’t know stuff like that. Like, come on. Hey, that’s Tim. That’s Tim Connley. He said, “I’ll do this.” That’s how Rodriguez’s work. They cut to him so frequently. So, and they talk about him like he’s the savior. It’s like he wasn’t the savior for the [ __ ] Yankees. Why would he be the savior? He’s finally in his industry, man. Possible. Certainly possible, but all very funny. Um, I had a nice four for 80 in my mind all year. And then he just kept breaking every steel record and every deflection and finished second in Deepo and would probably make first team. And it’s again, I don’t know if he’s looking to break the bank, but he and his agents aren’t stupid. They’re going, they want fair value. So, Could you do four for a 100red? Like is that even an allowable? Is that like too high for the fouryear max, but not, you know what I mean? Too low for the three? I was I think you could. That feels like a nice like right in the middle and probably player option on the end in case you keep going crazy. Opt out, get paid again because you’re young enough to do it. But again, he might also just say, “No, I want 5150 and the player like I need it all. I I was this close to defensive player of the year.” closer than Suggs ever was. And it’s not a they did it, we have to do it, but the market yesterday sets the market today, which sets the market tomorrow. So, yeah. I mean, I I I can’t do 150 and keep Trey. And they just paid Jaylen Johnson, right? They gave him Did they give him 150? Five for 150. Yeah. So, that’s I feel way more comfortable doing that. And then if if Dice like I would just probably just have Dyson Daniels play it out. Yeah, cuz it’s 7.7 that’s not getting you anything either. Well, it’s just it’s like he plays it out and wins. He actually wins deep. It’s like I don’t It’ll trigger it up to something higher, but how much higher? And if he does it back toback years, I I think I’m like, “Okay, like you’re the goods.” Yeah, it’s a difficultation for sure. Wimy’s back next year and he still wins deep point. Okay, take $150 million or even if he comes in top three again, like I’m I’m okay with that. But the last guard to even win Deep Boy has not been top three since uh obviously different players, different different points of their career, but yeah, I I don’t want to call it a flash in the pan. I think he’s a good serviceable player, but does he do so much that I don’t think Rhys can make up for as and Brie like they both listed 68 here. I know they’re not both 6’8 like as you always say reach is 72 but correct just being a if if if me if I’m building around Trey and Jaylen Johnson and I need to pick my third between Rhys Archer and Daniels and one of them’s still going to be on their rookie deal, the other one’s going to be $150 million. I’m probably just going to go with Reese Archer. I think now honestly is the move where you could you do it now because by the time Dyson may opt out by the time it’s time to pay Res. So if I’m thinking like big picture so it’s like let’s do it all now and figure that part out later. I we’ll move on to other needs but I’m just I’m trying to look like if I’m Dyson Daniels team I’m saying like you’re keeping Trey if you’re keeping Trey Young you haven’t had a better back court mate. There’s not a better back. Sure. Like if that’s hey that’ll cost you like that that’s a premium for that. He’s 22 and wants to be here. Nobody signs in Atlanta. That’s a premium for that. So, if it’s like, hey, we we’re gonna get our number or else. But I would I do think he has to stay. Even if it’s like, yeah, maybe we will wait it out and just match whatever. I do. As long as you’re going to keep Trey, I feel like he has to be a You search for years to find this piece and you have it and now it’s going to be ah I don’t know. We paid DeAndre 121 million, but can we pay the deep? I I just I don’t know. I don’t know. So, it’s like I’ll I’m more comfortable paying Dyson Daniels if I can get Terrence Madden off. Like, it’s it’s it’s only 15 some playing some work on them. I know a guy. It’s like it’s only 15.5, but that’s considering the space I have. Like I have $40.9 million in space right now before I hit any before I can any penalties whatsoever. That’s as of this off season. That 15 can get me uh I don’t know what like a $25 million player. Like that’s a pretty what it’s they this is from um Bobby Marx. He says beside the possibility of two first round picks, they have the Kings and the Lakers pick. They have the flexibility of a $14 million non-tax mid-level exception. Can still be active in the trade market because the two picks. They have a five million by annual exception. Your veterans minimum and four trade exceptions. That’s where I think they could get freaky. They got a 25, a 13, a 3.7, and a 3.5. So my move I’m calling any team already over the second apron. Like who are you just trying to get rid of? Get rid of. Yeah. Yeah. like give us your ninth man for free because it cost us 10 million. It cost you $157 million because the the luxury tax. You said 25 that was the biggest their biggest trade exception is 25.3. So it’s a number like it’s some guys that I was looking like just one year left one or two years left like a Duncan Robinson is in that range. Yaka Purle, Nick Claxton, Herb Jones, I don’t know. I just know he was injured in a new GM. I would just call the Pelicans. Like, are y’all done with Herb Jones or Trey Murphy yet? I I’ll call back. But I’m looking for somebody like Second Apron, somebody just just give us some like Cleveland, you physically cannot afford to pay Isaac Aoro what cost you $48 million next year. You can’t do it. Grayson Allen’s 16.8. 8. I know it’s not like the the most fun name anyone’s ever heard, but you talk about a team in desperate need, a team we’re going to talk about, but a team in in desperate need to shed some salary. Um, that’s not terrible. like a a lot of trade exceptions do end up being nothing, but I do wonder now with one that large in this era if they do start becoming more of like a it’s it’s more value than a second round pick just having that space. Absolutely. And again for the like the trading team, damn, we hate to lose our eighth man for nothing, but boy, we did not want to pay $79 million for our eighth man. So that’s where I would look to be like again two picks projected like 13 and 22. I’d be open to trading one. I don’t think I would trade both. I just look around and see the top team. I think depth, youth, cost control, I think it’s too important to trade both picks. And I’ve heard some talk of trading both. You could talk me into trading one. I wouldn’t hate keeping both, but I I’ I’d be hard hardressed to trade both unless if you’re getting like a Trey Anthony coming back. Yeah, I would trade both for Trey Murphy. Yeah, like a younger player. Yeah, cause control fits the timeline. Like we’re ready. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, I’ve been worried or I’ve been thinking about Trey Murphy a lot because I I we’ll get to the Pelicans. I don’t want to get sidetracked because that’ll happen. Um trying to think who else is in cap hell. It’s not a lot dude like every I’m I would any of like the top second Boston, Phoenix, Cleveland, Denver, New York. Like again, if you just called New York, could you just get McBride for a top 56 protected pick in the 2030 draft because they don’t want to pay 4x the Knicks uh heading into the summer, like as of now with with everyone accounted for on their roster are $365,000 over the first apron. So that’s not a team I view as like in desperate need. That’s not Yeah, that’s not true. Like that’s that’s who am I looking at? Ariel Huckporty, who I I know they [ __ ] love him, but if they really Tyler had, you know, like I wouldn’t because he was like your lottery ticket. Uh but yeah, if him because team option, no, that’s out and now we’re under and we’re fine. We can make any move, which is kind of crazy. Credit to the Knicks for doing that. Uh, and us it’s like you’re talking Sam Hower who is even at 10 for us because we don’t have anyone making below 25 until him. Uh, Hower’s a 10. Like I mean he means that 10. We’re paying 20 for that. That’s fine though. Like he is worth 20 to us. Pritchard’s a 72. Like we’re not dumping Pritchard. It also does nothing for us. We’re 31 million over the first apron. Right. So that’s that’s where it’s like, yeah, it it it definitely makes sense. But the Bucks, I mean, if you really want to go swinging, if you want to put everything on the table, Trey Verianis works. Like, you don’t have to do anything else. No picks. Oh, yeah. Call that in. No, no, you said it. No, no. Even moneywise, it worked. So, yeah, like two picks. Like, I I don’t think it’s going to be five. Uh, I think it would just because the the teams that can and will be able to get into it and just be like, we don’t care if you stay. They have picks these other teams. Are they offering anything better than Trey Young? One depends on how you feel about Trey Young. And two, some four teams have all the picks. So, if one of those teams gets in, I fear one of those four may maybe, especially if home teams keep losing in this round like May. OKC. He was like, “You know what? We’re getting we’re getting him and we’re getting uh Jokic, too. Why not? We’re getting them all.” Listen, this is why you have the picks. Um, sure. But no, to the again they they could that Kings pick could jump up. They would not keep or it would just be pushed back. The Lakers pick is I think that’s locked in. They will have whatever. Yeah. And I’m just draft and free agency. I think they need a another center, a big body like good with Okongu, but you just need a bigger B. Like Steven Adams would be the perfect addition to me. The perfect addition. I think he’s going to have a lot of suitors. You might have to overpay on a short-term contract. I don’t hate it because again, I don’t what’s overpay. We’ll find out what over and underpay even is. Well, like the the Knicks. So if they wanted to open up that like 14 full mid level that you were talking Mitchell Robinson’s at 12.9 okay for one more year is that a guy you would be interested in because I think that makes a lot of sense it and even then like they could take that with the like not even their biggest exception. So I would take some right a year Mitch Rob and let’s just see let’s just see because I do think they need a bigger body. I do think they need a some type of backup point guard. Like they tried Kobe Buffkin, it’s just been injuries year one and two to the point where it’s like I when he’s healthy, he hasn’t proven anything because he’s been injured so you can’t even say well he’s healthy. But I don’t back up. I kind of don’t worry like I think you can get a like a Tus Jones or Monty Morris or a like Brogden trying to rehab his value. A DaVon Mitchell would be a restrictor free agency. Center’s the one I I’d like to go big fish. Like I’d love Miles Turner. Nas Reed, you probably couldn’t do that, but that’s where I’d look. But if not, Nas Reed, I just I think he’s going to want big like I think he can get a raise, but not a break the bank raise, but I don’t know where he wants it and who can offer it. So, it’s like he’s I think he just got four for 55. If he’s like, “Yeah, I want to double that,” then yeah, Hawks can’t do it. if he’s like, “Yeah, I’d like I’d take 16 17 or whatever.” So, yeah, they could probably make that shake. So, I don’t It depends on what he wants, but I would like a big a big with a shooting aspect is something Trey’s never had. If you’re keeping him, I think you owe it to him to try to give him five out. I don’t think that’s crazy. Would you do one year? It wouldn’t work with trade exceptions. I want to see how it would work tradewise. But if you want to play a five out center, there’s this tall white who’s on the RFK diet on the Celtics. He’s just constantly [ __ ] Cornet, how many years cornet got? It’s a Trey man does not work. What would have to happen for Porzingis? Not interested. You just had a five out center. He’s dying. I’m good. The RP or whatever, but uh so it’ have to be so for for KP, this is why it’s hired now. You would have to what would it be for somebody not KP that Well, I’m just talking about his money. I’m just talking about the money. Like Terrence man alone is at 155. KP is at 30.7. You would need to get to like 23 in order for that level contract to come back using. So, it’ have to be man plus I’m so used to using this on my phone. Where’s the adjust? There it is. It would have to be man plus like two picks this draft. Yeah, you got a couple salaries. Yeah, Nyang would work like almost exactly weirdly. Yeah. So, that’s what I have to be. If I can get into the 30 million range with players and picks, then I’m like, “Okay, Miles Turner, what do you want contractwise in Indiana? What do you want signing tradewise? Right. If I’m getting the like 30 ball range, I’d go I’d look at Turner, Nyang. And Niang’s a perfect pacer. Perfect. He does have a pacery look to disposition. Terrence man got some pacer in him, too. Now that I think about it, I Yeah, I do fear. Uh, yeah. little signt cuz even because there’s also like Caris Levert is a I wouldn’t hate bringing Caris Levert back but I he could be used in signing TR like if if Indiana’s just like okay we’ll turn one big piece into two pieces and pick like we just kind of keep like Hallebertton and Saka Mar guys we’ll keep everything around them circulating I wouldn’t hate that Tophin kind of feels like a hawk now that I’m looking at him Jacob Toppen his brother is currently a Hawk So this could work. He just says no guarantees past this year. So this is one way to get them guaranteed. Let’s see. I just think again with the number like of trade exceptions like this is kind of going to be free agency because who knows who can just sign anybody through free agency anymore. So, it’s like I as creative as you’re willing to be, I think you can like if you’re willing to lean on some second apron teams, facilitate some stuff just because you have picks and a little cap space and like what use whatever you can to facilitate other stuff because teams can’t just go like A to B anymore. Player, I sign with you as much. So, if you’re willing to Yeah. get in there, facilitate, come out of a trade with a a guy with a $19 million salary, but one year left helping team C get what they needed. I think you have to do that. And yeah, backup point guard and center, I think, are the needs. Topping for Nang. I know it’s not center, uh, but it’s a guy who can run with Trey and can shoot, uh, enough. It works straight up like and it gets the Pacers under the C uh salary cap. No apron, but under the just regular salary cap, which I don’t know if they give you anything for that anymore. I don’t I don’t think they care. Take something from you. Uh but yeah, I think that’s interesting that it works so cleanly. Miles Turner, you’re going to love Atlanta, man. We’ll promise to always you you can move into John Collins house as the we’re going to trade you, not trade you, trade you, not trade you, trade you, not trade you. It’ll be a seamless transition. He would be Whan Smithers. He’s like, I really just want to go home and rebuild the brig of the Titanic. Like, please leave me alone or come help pass me. Miles, you know the uh Lego, they make every logo in Atlanta, Georgia. He said, “Every logo.” I said, “Every logo, every Lego, every uh logos, every everything they make it here.” Yeah. Connects all of it right here. Backup, point guard. Those seem pretty perpetually available. And I like again backup point guard and center. You I know you can definitely address those in the draft, but again 13 and 22 essentially every year. I think you just I mean best player available, but like I’m a tankathon right now has like Jace Richardson in that range. I would love Jace Richardson, Colin Murray Boils in that range. Any type if you’re a wing that can shoot. I don’t think you can draft anybody small like respectfully Kobe Buffkin. I think like if you’re keeping Trey Young, he has to be the smallest player by far. I don’t think you can get like another backup point guard for when he sits. It’s like you need a combo guard that can play with him or off of him and also without him, but he can also be 6’2. Interested in maxing out Tai Jerome maybe. Let me see how the rest of Let me see how his second run uh second round keeps going. Potentially not going well. No, I thought I could get him from minimum saying John Collins the free. Is this this year’s list hoops hype? You [ __ ] me right now? Collins has got I think Collins has a player option which maybe he accepts. Maybe not. So I don’t think he’s technically a free agent yet. Clint Capella. You can get some Clint Capella. I would again Capella I think 22 million if next year if that 22 million just went to Clint Capella and Larry Nance or Clint Capella and Brook Lopez or Steven Adams and like okay fine with it. Al Horford’s a free agent. The return the return of our Dominican Tio puppy Al. I would like that. Backup point guard Chris Paul. You know he’s going to play again. He finally ends up in Atlanta. Literally 20 years too late. Smaller than Trey. Can’t do it. Sorry. Sorry. Hall of Famer. Schroeder. Schroeder back home as well. Tim Hardway Jr. We just rebuilt the Hawks. We just Teague. Let’s get T. Let’s get uh he’s awesome. Put 520 on here. Yeah. No one’s more all set. That’s He was all set when he was making Allstars. That’s what makes him great. That’s a good one. But I there’s going to be a a like an athletic big will. Like I see Danny Wolf right now 22 on Tangon. Danny Wolf would be I would take Danny Wolf in a heartbeat. I to the point I don’t know if he’s going to be there at 22. I think he’s a big with some skill that could have a combine and go like lottery, late lottery. Um, pre-20s maybe I should say. Am I seeing some some Cam Thomases available? I bet he is restricted free agent Cam Thomas. Wow. Time to pay five for 345. I think that’s his uh that’s his minimum. That’s mid level. I saw someone today they’re reddrafting the top 10 of the Jaylen Green draft asking the question would he Rico in the top 10 and people saying he’s not as good he’s only good at one thing and he’s not as good as Cam Thomas at it and I said I I don’t know if I disagree with this Cam Thomas at that boy is spitting I was talking to Cam uh earlier and he was also telling me about his favorite product which is of course Mando. Of course he’s a smart guy. Of course it is. It’s it he wouldn’t shut up about it. It was it was crazy because he How could you? Once you’ve experienced it, how like literally how could you? No, for sure. And it’s it it he plays a winter sport and it’s a sweaty sport, too. So he he was saying like how easy in winter like we’re inside which I would argue is the more necessary time to smell good when when everyone’s outside it matters less. It could be anything. You could blame it on some sort of factory explosion. Like it’s not necessarily uh a you thing. But in the spring he’s going out. You know Cam Thomas, he hasn’t had work in months. You talk about his teacher schedule. This Cam Thomas schedule. Summer’s off, baby. Spring summer. half the spring off opening month of college and NFL season. Like he’s he’s got it made in the shade because he’s he’s going out. He’s staying out longer. He’s hitting all the festivals. Oh yeah. This guy, he got a panel at South by Southwest. Like he he really is is a Renaissance man of sorts. Um, but I’m pumped that he told us about Mando’s whole body deodorant because unlike some other dos, that’s that’s what we in the biz call deodorant that we’ve tried. It it lasts as as long as I do, that’s the new one, not the old stinky ones. Um, but yeah, it’s being outside, especially like shooting around more outside, just playing basketball outside. Like I I don’t always have time to wash up. Sometimes you just got to do a little little quick and that’s deodorant and wipe and and go. It’s it’s where it really shines for me personally. I don’t know. I don’t know about yourself. Oh man, the wipes. Sometimes I just like to smell like bourbon leather. Who doesn’t? Luckily, man, those got me covered. They got a soap that smells just like bourbon leather. Babe, for decades, I’ve been unable to smell like bourbon. Really any uh flavored leather. and and Mando. Boy oh boy did they they saved my hide. They and they tended it to smell like bourbon. Mando was created by a doctor. Not enough people talk about that because he saw firsthand how normal Bo was being misdiagnosed and mistreated. He had stinky patient after smelly patient just waing through. He said, “I got to do something about this today.” and he he created something that’s clinically proven to block odor all day and control that odor for up to 72 hours. It’s it’s that old drill where the coach would just like put the basketball in like the half court uh jump ball circle and he’d be like, “All right, just box out. Don’t let the other guy touch the ball.” And he’s like, “I’ll blow the whistle when I decide this. Either he’s going to get the ball or you’re going to box out for 20 minutes.” And that’s that’s Mando for 72 hours on Odor. Power of 73. It may sneak through the cracks. TBD. But but but 0 through 71 and 72. Come on, man. Slapping the floor. Just dog walking. Full effort. Knees the chest effort. Hit me in order to because like they’ve been at this level. What made me think of this last night after the Cavs went down 02 because Tyresese Hallebertton did some insane things. Uh after that I saw a lot of people posting the Cavs starting five this year with the infamous Hawks starting five that won player of the month as a unit with the power of friendship. Uh one I don’t view that as an insult. I know that’s an insult. It’s really hard to build teams that good. B, the Hawks biggest issue to me to get out of this zone. It has little to do with players. They’ve had they’ve had really good players, really good teams more than a lot of franchises over the last 20 years. Like a lot of franchises can’t say they’ve done as well as the Hawks. And I don’t think anyone thinks the Hawks have done well. Uh, they got to figure out the [ __ ] uniforms. Like that to me is the biggest thing working against them. They’ve been stuck in AAU territory for quite some time. Some of it’s the suppliers, some of it’s them. They’ve had classics in the past. I know those haven’t led to championships either. I get that. But that logo that’s folded over on your chest, the P the reverse pack needs to be extremely prevalent. Extremely prevalent. And I don’t think they understand that. It’s like I I agree the alternates are always great, but it’s a new alternate every four months. You could get a classic jersey and we’d have to do away with it in three months. Um, one step at a time. One step at a time. US is GM first, Mando second, Profit third. Like they’re trying to I just pulled up like their standard kits, the red and the white. It’s got the touch of yellow like they they’re trying to invoke that. But then I’m looking at the Steve Smith jersey with the giant hawk wings perfectly spread. I holding the ball ready to just jaw Smith it down your throat and that that’s the one I know we’re never going to get that. And that this is for everybody. I say yeah. It’s just art. We just don’t get good art. No, like the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies, I think, do the best job when they wear their throwbacks. Like those are just their throwbacks, their Vancouver throwbacks, which should just be their standard jerseys. They’re much better. Yeah. Like no one else will commit. And the Hawks like they did their weird like Cavs ones this year with like the blue swipe. Like I don’t I hate that. Hate hate hate hate. But then even like even like this one because I’m trying to figure out what year this was. Oh, 94. I can see it. Um Oh, it’s not going to work on here. But it’s like the big it’s like the Hawks that comes up like the big H. Yeah. On the black one. That’s just so much better than like their Jordan one now. I don’t know. I just I need the H I need the Hawks to be the one to get back to it because then I think everyone else will fall in line. Why? Everybody gonna start winning 40 games now because the Hawks did it. Now we got all this influence. Teams are dying to win 40 games. Depend on which side of the coin you’re on. For sure. Do you have any else on these Atlanta Hawks? Don’t trade both picks. That’s really all I Anything else I think I’m listening to. I just don’t think you’re in a I feel like trading both picks would put you in a fast four that you do not need to be in. Now again, if Giannis says the 22 pick or nothing, I need 13 and 22. We talk it over. We probably do it. But outside of that, I don’t I think for the first time in a while, you’re actually on a nice trajectory with no reason to fast forward. like the conference final pressed fast forward in a way that looking back and at the time it’s probably like yeah probably shouldn’t. Now I don’t think you have to. So don’t don’t fast forward. No fast forward would be my lesson. I mean there’s a chance they slow it down more if they trade Trey which again might not be the incorrect move. Like if you’re if you’re taking long picture while everybody is still young under cost control. Let’s just wait and see. But let’s like fast forwarding is what last time led to this. So I would not I be not microwave anything. I also do think like what we should on fast forwarding a lot and I’m a big proponent of just like letting what you have play out more than one season. I think 82 I think people view 82 games as a large sample size. I don’t disagree with that. I also think pretending every 82 are the same is is not correct. like the Jaylen Johnson injury. Do the Hawks win 48 games if he doesn’t get hurt? Maybe. I don’t think that’s crazy. So, was DeJonte Murray fast forwarding or did they or fast forwarding at the wrong time or did they get the wrong player if they had got Miles Turner instead? Are we It was the right fast forward. You know what I mean? like to if you’re going to make a swing because you do anticipate Jaylen Johnson adding another five wins on top of hopefully the other five wins you’re getting from this other player and you’re keeping Trey, then I think it’s it’s a conversation. But if it’s to get like Kevin Durant or someone like that, I don’t think that’s the right swing or to get Bradley Beal for some unknown reason. Bad swing. Not a good swing. I’d rather the ball hit me square in the crotch. Oh, I guess I’ll end with this. I don’t I’ll check to see if it’s even possible. If Memphis were to call you and said, “Jesus doesn’t work with what we want to do, but Trey does, would you do that swap out?” I wouldn’t do it. Okay. I wouldn’t do it. I You don’t want team uh competition. Uh correct. Um the thing with it used to be like okay now we’re betting on the upside and if now if I’m not sure I’m getting the upside I will take the higher I don’t know if it’s a higher floor but I it’s a I’m not going to be afraid of what Trey Young posts on Instagram and that could sound very bad. I’ll knock on some wood as I say it, but let me check his Let me Hold on. Okay, I think we’re good. Um, firing firing in a in a school zone. Uh, no. It’s a thing like I’m not saying that Trey is better than J, but if I don’t know if reach the ceiling of it, you think better than Yeah. How could you not? I can see I see both sides of it. I’ll say that. I can see both sides of it. I two years ago, no one would pick Trey Young. You know what I mean? Absolutely no one. I think right now you’re insane if you’re not picking Trey Young. I feel like it’s the people that would pick Trey Young now are the people that would have picked him two years ago and were told they were wrong and would be like I’m telling you like just for sure. Yeah. Yeah. It would have been a plurality of people who picked John Morant two years ago. Yeah. I Yeah. I would not for so I again I would we probably have to have the discussion but I I would not. It’s been decided. Phoenix Suns, you’re on the clock. [Music]
