Tom Thibodeau previews Knicks Game 3 matchup with Celtics

You talked a lot about keeping
them off the offensive glass and they have had some success
there. Just out of curiosity, is it due to something specific
with the group or is there may be a little bit shocked at how
much they’ve missed out what I think they’re they’ve always been real good at, you know, reacting
to the ball too, quick to the ball show, you have to anticipate. And yet because of the five out
you have to make sure you’re getting two bodies if they get a run. In start
their Smalls or great rebounders the way they’re built, a can go
on runs you know, the now obviously we
prefer not to do that but we also understand that you
know, it’s a 48 minute game and you got to fight to win
every possession and I think that’s important to
understand. Yeah. It’s play after play and
sometimes your Fall short. The next one, you
got to come back and do about
it. And so just have the mentality
of you’re going to keep going forward. You always talk about
understanding the fourth quarter is different, call the intensity. All that. Why have you guys been a little
bit better in these four quarters and than they’ve been? Yeah, well sometimes it’s the
shop making, you know and I think and you never know what can turn
a game, you know, often times it’s a
hustle play so loose ball that turns into an
easy bucket. Couture three-point shot and then you
get two or three stops in a row and then next thing you know
you’re on Iran TT, they’re not easy but because
you have got to get the stops but sometimes getting
stops and getting into the Open Floor can feel your offense and
then you go on a run and that’s what you have to do. I think every game is different,
you know, it’s like sometimes it ends up, you
anticipate that it will be high scoring ends up low scoring. And I think the big thing is to
have the understanding, you have to win games different
ways. You know, whether it’s a high-scoring low-scoring
medium scoring, just find a way
to win the game. Yeah, you know, it’s really irrelevant. I think the
big thing is to understand what it’s going to take to win
game, 3 to not get lost in, you know, like, you know,
whether you if you’re up or what, that doesn’t guarantee
anything. What we have to understand is what we have to do to win game.
3, the crowd, Many times like we have great
fans and we certainly appreciate the fans in the arena and all that, but what
we have to understand is what goes into winning game
three and you have to earn it. And it’s not given to you is not
going to be, there’s no guaranteed because
you’re up in the series or and no guarantee. Because you’re at
home, you have to earn it and you have to earn it play after
play. Well, away from home, I mean, in
the playoffs until I sort of mentality because you
get away from everything and it’s you guys against the world
that helps her. Well, you know you go on the road and it’s you
have a close-knit group and yet you understand that it’s, you
know, you against the crowd you against the atmosphere. You know, you cause you’re
probably not going to go your way so you got to make things go
your way. And so we have to have that understanding. And
then the same thing is, you know, it’s the playoffs. So there’s urgency to it. You know, whether your home
Road, you know, you know, that’s to be urgency
and every game. But we have to understand what’s
at stake in and you got to earn your winch. Yeah, you plan for everything,
you know, all the possibilities that could occur. So, you know, we we know the
strengths and weaknesses other team and they’re defending
Championship the champion. So we understand we have to bring
It for 48 minutes, to ask to be urgency to, has to be forced to
ask, the intensity has to be concentration, right? And that’s the way we’re
approaching it. Put the cap. Yes, you are. But go ahead. It’s hard to, you know, read
what’s in an officials mind. And I think for us the important
thing is to remain, you know, disciplined in to play
with toughness because Sometimes you get to
call, sometimes you don’t, it’s hard to Define marginal, you know. And you know, I think finishing is
important. Particularly in the playoffs. We have finished
through contact, finish your Cuts, finish your defense, you
have to finish. Yeah. And I think he’s grown, I
think you know that he’s you know, and we always all
of us, we all can do better. But I think he’s a lot
better than he was, you know, when I had him in
Minnesota. So it’s, you know, and again, I think you
realize it’s part of the game, and each game may be
called differently. So, don’t let that get you
distracted. Stay disciplined. Stay focused, stay focused on the task at
hand, which is to win game three. You know, he’s got a process that he does
every day, you know in he’ll be fine. Now they could be forgiven for
their sins. Well, I think you have to bring
it to every game. I think, you know, that you sense it more
when like, on a road, you feel like, you know, okay, the crowd that
atmosphere everything and so we can’t get lost in, you know, thinking that because, you know, it’s the home crowd that we have to give them
something to cheer about and we have to earn what we want. You
know, you have to deserve what you want. No, I think that that’s why it’s
important to establish a routine, a how you prepare to
play in understanding how important your preparation is
for each game. I think that’s where your confidence comes from and so, to understand what’s
going to go into it. I think that’s important for everyone. I think, you know, when you You put that with, you know, Mikhail and Josh, the that Wing versatility is
huge and then to add in what Mitch is brought to that
and also Carl’s defense is, I think
vastly improved. But it’s bad experience, that
doesn’t help. So as long as it’s good experience, I think
there’s maybe one player from that team on the roster and just trying to
help you with your job. Yeah, no. And I think whatever, I think whatever it is that you have you
try to take advantage of. So if you don’t have experience,
you try to, you would approach it more with
energy youthfulness. You know, like
that and approach it, that way being athletic and trying to
take it. And if you have experience you, you think that that’s a big
benefit. And I think probably having a combination of the two
is probably the best approach. So we always I’d say the you
know young guys helped bring the energy and the older guys
helped teach everyone. The tricks of the trade and everyone worked together to
bring the best out of each other and that’s what we try to do. All of that is, you know, you
talked about everything here. I think everything is
important so you know I want us to attack the
rim I think that’s important. And
then you know find open threes, hit the open man and you know like if you fall down
that does not absolve you from getting back. So Get your butt up and I won’t say how I would say to
him but get back.
