NBA TODAY | Brian Windhorst BREAKING: Rockets are not going to pursue a Kevin Durant trade

The season, it didn’t end as they hoped, but the Rockets made a jump this year, going from a 500 team that missed the playoffs to the second seed in the West. They’re just two years removed, remember, from winning 22 games and finishing at the bottom of the conference. So, here’s Raphael Stone earlier this afternoon on what could be next for Houston. If we trade for a player, assuming that that player will be the same player in our environment that they were in the last one, that’s that’s not always the case. Um, and so, you know, you just you have to make the best choices as you can. But I would say plan A has always been to develop our current group. You’ve seen teams make a lot of moves and and they feel like they need to get over the hump and Donch is added or Butler is added and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But uh we always felt comfortable about what we had here and that we take this step this year. I’m not mad at it. An em we trust for years I used to beg to get the Houston Rockets on the show. And just look at us now. After seasons of solid drafts, significant signings both coach and player, Houston finished number two in the West and is in the playoffs. Likely a piece away from true contention. Now, while most of the squad may be up for grabs in that pursuit, one player has moved himself into untouchable territory. And Thompson, period. There are so many plays that simply make you stop and stare. Did you see that fillet? That lay wild. We need another angle of this behind the back here. Tough gatherems. On the floor doesn’t matter. Uh, Draymond contesting DPO Y type and then the nice tough English to finish in January. Do you guys remember he averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds. He’s a walking highlight on both ends. The Houston Rockets were no longer in the middle of the pack. They’re making moves to be on top. Once again, look at the pivot. Look at the defense here from man. He’s locked in on Jimmy Butler. One of the most competitive pieces that we have seen in a long time. Getting to be in two places at once. going from lockdown defender to helps defender to snagging the rebounds. Again, I say all the time in the NBA, the worst place to be is in the middle. Uh-uh. The Rockets, they What is the song? Moving on up all the way to the top, Malik. Well, now they have some decisions to make and for that we welcome in our front office insider, Bobby Mark. They have a checklist really, Bobby, that they need to work through this offseason. Starting with the deadline that is actually on Friday. So, can you just walk us through the rocket summer and what their priorities are? Yeah, Malik, there’s four things to keep an eye on certainly that checklist and the first thing is Fred Van Vleet. He has a 45 million team option as you mentioned that the Rockets have to exercise by this Friday. I would say even if this option is declined, the likelihood is that Vanite will still be back on this this Rocket’s team. lower number gives them more flexibility for the summer here. The second is evaluating that young core. There’s going to be a temptation this summer to go big game hunting. And the Rockets have the three things. Draft, equity, controllable contracts. Certainly those young players and sizable contracts when you look at players like Jayen Green. Remember they have the ninth pick in a draft that potentially could go all the way up to number one. The third thing rookie extensions two players are eligible. Smith J and Ton and then the fourth thing Stephen Adams the free agency of Stephen Adams. Certainly a priority to bring back to this summer. Ok, so I’m looking at number one, roster continuity or bringing in a star. So let’s bring Brian Winorse back into this discussion. Is there a star Brian that you’re hearing that the Rockets think they make they think it makes sense to add to this team? Well, fell Stone talked today, he said that nobody is untouchable, but the bar for them to change this roster is very high. I would say he was non-committal, which I think it’s he actually I would say sounded more open than he was earlier this season when he talked about really not wanting to change the makeup of this team. I think after finishing second, he might see that they could be closer. I know everybody’s going to link Kevin Durant. In fact, they’ve already linked Kevin Durant because of his relationship with EM Udoka and the fact that the Rockets have a bunch of sons assets that they could trade. But it would really be a pretty big departure for the Rockets to go after a guy in his mid to late 30s when their whole team is in their 20s. Not impossible but that would be a high bar. But nothing is going to happen until after they see what happens on the lottery next Monday. Well, there may be someone who’s a little closer to their early 30s that could potentially be somebody to watch this summer. Bobby Marks, thank you so very much coming up here on NBA group. You know, everybody’s ready. We know the next challenge is going to be very daunting as well. Another possession here comes Mitchell and he just tear drop just beautiful for us. This is one game. You know what I mean? The biggest thing is just how do you respond? They don’t lose a time, you know, so they’re going to respond. All right, three keyers questionable on the injury report for tonight’s crucial game two. Evan Mobley has a sprained ankle. Darius Garland a sprained toe. Remember he missed the last three games because of it. And then DeAndre Hunter he sprained his thumb although at one point they said he dislocated it. So we’re certainly tracking all of that. There’s a lot of uncertainty here. Brian how worried should the topseated cavaliers be? They’re already down 01 in this series. Significantly. Uh, none of the three were at shoot around this morning. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not playing, but it’s not a good sign. Um, the Cavs are a deep team, a deep team that has shown they can win a number of different ways. It’s certainly not an insurmountable hill for them to climb to think that they could miss these three guys and win tonight. However, you’re looking at missing two of their three allstars, which would require the guys who do play to play very smart. And I know that there was a lot of focus on things that happened with the ball, specifically uh struggling shooting for Donovan Mitchell and Ty Jerome in game one. But the Cavs really lost game one at the defensive end. Get up 121 points and 193 pointers. So when you watch tonight, look for the Cals to show way more activity at that end of the court. Especially when Ty Hallton passes the ball. He killed them as a distributor the other night. Yeah, he shot the ball well, but it was his kickouts uh when they pay a lot of attention to him and tried to block the rim that were an issue. So, if Alber Burton beats them with shoot and the pass, it’s going to be a lot harder to manage the Pacers and their style of play. You brought up that great stat, Malica, about when he scores 20 points, they are virtually unbeatable. He had 22. So, it’s not just his passing, it’s also, you know, his scoring. But honestly, you guys, the Celtics, they’re not the only culprates. The Cavs are culprates, too. From falling getting a little tipsy, getting a little drunk on three a little bit. They were nine for what 38 shooting. They settled a bit, they got lost in the S. Whereas now you your defense didn’t step up. The Pacers offense is comfortable and when they’re comfortable, they’re lethal. The word is comfort for me and it goes back to Ty Hallton in the Cav’s defense. He was way too comfortable. They have to find a way to disrupt him. Well, we’ll see if they can do it, particularly if they’re going to be short-handed. That is going down tonight. But on Sunday night, we’ll have the final two episodes of Full Court Press season 2, 9 and 10 Eastern on E2 and ESPN Plus. It’s a four-part docky series. It takes a behind the scenes look at the live notor Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo, LSU guard Fl Johnson, and USC forward Kiki area fan. So, let’s stick with women’s hoops here. As the WMBA regular season is already 10 days away. So let’s get 24 seconds on the clock please. 24 seconds. We were struggling with this on WB count. We got it here today. I faith in you. Starting with this Caitlyn Clark the favorite to win MVP. Should she be? Yeah, I think so. When you talk about Caitlyn Clark, she averaged 19 points, eight assists. I love that you’re counting for me. I need you to count out loud. 19 points, eight assists last season, but had an even better finish to the season. After the Allstar break, after the Olympic break, she lit it up. What she average 12 assists during that time. She now has more pieces around her, more teammates she can get the ball to. And she had a full off season. It’s time to spare you left too much food on the play. No, no, no. Well, certainly the fever retooled. They added some depth, some veteran pieces and now Caitlyn Clark the favorite to win MVP. Uh, but speaking of those offseason moves, Ch 24 seconds from the clock, what was the most important offseason move to you? Ready? Start it. Literally, the stars. The stars on the move. Duana Bonner to Indy to try to make them a championship contender. You have Kelsey Plum to Los Angeles to bring them to the playoffs. You have Duel Lloyd to Las Vegas to, you know, bolster that back court. And of course, you have Alissa Thomas even going to Phoenix and have a new look Mercury squad. So, the stars on the move, the Stars have realigned and it was, guess what y’all? It was perfect. It was right on time. So Andre and I are just our notes. What was the most most important move? Just one player movement. No, no move. The most important it’s like my queen the queen of the wish wishy was between cheating and finessing and I finessed it. All right finess this the liberty. They are the favorites to repeat the season followed by the fever and the aces. Who do you think should be the singular favorite? I’m going with the New York Liberty. Why? They’ve been there before. They just won a championship. They kept a ton of their key pieces and they added to the team when they got Natasha Cloud. You talk about stars on the move. Natasha Cloud is a true point guard. She finds her teammates. She plays with incredible plays and she is a ball hawk defensively. So she adds to this team that already has depth and championship experience and MVPs on the squad. Yes, I’m so proud of you. I found out where the clock was an eye on it. All right, we’re here. NBA TODAY | Brian Windhorst BREAKING: Rockets are not going to pursue a Kevin Durant trade because of his age

  1. Old KD leaves desperate franchises broken and drained. See also Suns and Nets, who were rising franchises who gutted their resources and mortgaged their futures to chase a ring. OR, a team can build like OKC, or Minnesota, and nurture a young core and pick up strategic role players.

  2. Durant puts the Rockets over the top. He also would be a good offensive guide for Green & Thompson. The Rockets would be the best team in the league with Durant.

  3. If rockets land a high lottery pick and can some how get VJ edgecombe they will be just fine. Jalen should be a sixth man

  4. KD will be the weakest link for the rockets…they have a good core right now. thats y i say Russ over KD all day

  5. Listening to these women who not too long ago dragged this coach through the mud now praise the team he is leading makes me want to throw up. By the way the woman Iman has a consenting relationalship with still works for the Celtics. MAKE THAT MAKE SENSE.

  6. Yah but what happen on g7 with best team on the planet the dubs .ain't won't matter to whoever dubs will face it's gonna be the warriors prevail

  7. Get the women off from commenting on men's sports. The Tribe loves mixing the genders and creating distractions from what Christians need to be doing.

  8. Spurs will need to sell the farm to sign Giannis in order to mask the inept coaching of the new HC G-League Mitch Johnson.

  9. KEEP THE CORE, MASTER AND IMPROVE THE PLAYS, TRUST THE COACHES AND IMPROVE THEIR SHOOTING, TEAMWORK AND FAMILIARITY IS WAY BETTER THAN ADDING A SUPER STAR,
