Knicks Postgame Reaction To Game 3 Loss To Celtics | New York Knicks
from the start. Something missing today. Uh well, they they got the lead early. Uh I thought we missed some shots early that impacted us and um they got confidence early in the game. From our looked like there might have been a little defensive miscommunication throughout the game. Was there anything you saw on that end that concerned you from your guys? Uh you know, and again, I I got to look at the film. Uh, you know, we got in a hole early and I I thought that took some energy away from us. So, uh, you know, got to make our corrections, get ready for the next one. Coach Boston Crystal Rich, uh, coach, Boston really found their touch from downtown today. What was your overall takeaway from the perimeter defense? Yeah, we, you know, obviously we got to, we got to be better. Uh, uh, they got some clean looks early and, you know, they see it go in. uh that that gives them confidence, then it’s hard hard to shut them off. So, you know, we we have to have uh greater awareness. Uh we can’t allow miss shots to take away from defensive tenacity. Uh so, we got to bounce back. Tom, any any common threats you can see in the first quarters that are allowing them to get off to a stronger start than you guys have there? Uh, and again, it’s, you know, the urgency that you have to bring to a to a game, to a playoff game, and we knew they would come out with aggression, and we got to make sure we’re bringing aggression and force as well. And, uh, you know, and again, you there’s going to be runs where you’re not making shots, then you you you get going with your defense, get a couple easy baskets, then then all of a sudden you get rhythm. So, um, you know, we got to be better, and we will be. on the the heck of Mitch stuff. Um I mean is there something you can do differently when they’re doing it that much or Yeah. just you know like and again you got to make a decision between five and two you know and then you go from there and you know if he’s making he stays and if he’s not we got to get him out and then you know is the impact you impacting the game is that more beneficial to leave him in. So there’s a lot of factors that that go into that. Tom, from your perspective, why didn’t the group come out with the proper, you know, intensity? Yeah. And and again, I I think the the intent was there, but it was, you know, sometimes if you impact, you know, if you miss shots, you know, you you tend to not have the same type of energy. Uh, and there’s a lot of different ways you could help to win a game. And so, you’re not going to, no one’s going to shoot great every night. There’s going to be nights you don’t shoot it that well, but do other things to help the team win. And that’s basically what we’ve done all year. So, uh, you know, we fell short today. Uh, and we have to take a good hard look at the film and then get ourselves ready for the next game because that’s the only thing that is important is the next challenge that you face and and that’s our challenge. Tom, what what did you think of your guys pick and roll defense, especially in the first half? Yeah, same. You know, like there again, there’s uh going to be a lot of pick and rolls in a game. So, you know, what we’re what we always do is we evaluate, you know, how many were defended well, how many weren’t defended well, how many did they make a tough shot against, you know, was uh was the scheme executed properly? Was it done with the proper amount of intensity? Was everyone tied together? So, we we’ll look at all those things. And you know that’s you and again they they have a very good offensive team and they they play five out and spread you out. So your your your toughness and your discipline have to be tied together. Were guys running the the proper coverage in that first half. Yeah. Like some of it was you know they they made good plays you know and you know our communication you know like you got to be aggressive you got to communicate well and there has to be a second and third effort. And if and then even when the ball is shot, uh then you got to find bodies and you can’t give them a second and third crack at it. Uh and so, you know, again, I would rather like evaluate the film and then, you know, then I’ll know. You talked earlier about earning a playoff victory. Do you feel this was Boston earning the victory today more so than what you did, Tom? Well, that’s what each game is. You know, you have to earn it. and uh you’re faced with a different challenge every game. Uh understand what that is. Uh and it you’re concentrating on what wins the game. And you know, it’s your defense, it’s your rebounding, keeping your turnovers down. Uh we know that in the playoffs, it’s all about your defense, it’s your toughness, and your teamwork. Uh and that’s, you know, there’s going to be highs and lows. There’s a lot of emotion involved in the playoffs, and you got to bounce back quickly. And you know, it’s it’s competition. It it’s imposing your will. It’s all of those things. Tom, it looked like uh Towns was trying to shake out that hand a little bit after he got whacked in the second quarter. Uh just is that any concern? Five for 18. I know he played 35 minutes, but any Yeah, you know, and again, it’s the playoffs. People are going to get hit and you got to play through things and that’s why you do it all, you know, the entire season. Uh, no one’s playing uh 100%. But you have to understand that you can play well when you’re feeling less than your than your best. Uh, that’s all part of it. I think the mental toughness part of this in in the playoffs is huge. Coach, what you see from OG tonight offensively, it didn’t seem like he got into any kind of rhythm. Yeah, the you know, in the game is going to tell tell you what to do. So, you know, we didn’t get stops. We didn’t get into the open floor like we would have liked. Uh, and when we do that, that tends to get everyone easy buckets and and we can play off that better. Tom, one and three at home in the postseason. Are you surprised by the struggles at home and the way basically home court hasn’t had much of an impact seemingly for you guys? Yeah, I you know and again it’s you know I think you look at each game uh by itself and you say okay uh you know we didn’t lose the game because we were at home. Uh we lost the game because we didn’t do do enough things to win the game. And so look at those things. That’s what do you need to do to win that particular game whether it’s home or road. It you know it really that that shouldn’t matter. like understand like what you have to put into winning a early deficit. Uh and we got to find a way to start games better. Uh have better energy, better pace, better physicality, and u you know, stop getting into these early deficits and then trying to fight so much to get out of it. So, um we’re going to watch the tape. Um we’re going to make adjustments and get ready for Monday. Josh, what was the biggest challenge defensively tonight? Um, I don’t think we can just point to to one thing. Um, you know, we didn’t play with enough uh urgency, enough physicality. Um, you know, give them credit. Uh, you know, they’re the defending champs. Um, you know, you knew they weren’t they’ll come and lay down. So, um, like I said, we just got to reset, regroup, watch the film, um, see where we can get better and then, um, you know, translate that to Monday. the difference in three-point shooting and the number of points in this game, 60- 15 in your mind, is is that the difference here? Uh, yeah, a little bit. You know, we didn’t, you know, we didn’t make shots, but uh the biggest thing we can’t let uh, you know, makes and misses affect how we’re how we’re playing on the defensive end. Um, you know, when we’re not making shots, we got to uh make it tough for them. We got to fly around more. We got to rebound the ball. We got to not give up second chance points. we got to do uh more things. So, um like I said, we know uh you know, this was far from our best game and um like I said, we got to regroup and then you know, get back to it Monday. Why do you think homec court has not been an advantage in this series or throughout the playoffs for you guys? I don’t know. Um you know, I can’t, you know, pinpoint one thing. um you know the the fans are coming out and and supporting and and showing love and we got to make sure um you know uh that’s not wasted. So like I said, we just got to watch the film. We got to get better and um we know that they’ll come out Monday. Josh, what did you see in in the first quarter in terms of how much energy they had to start the game? Yeah, I mean they’re they’re you know they’re down 2. um and and you knew they were going to come out um with a sense of urgency, a s a sense of desperation. Um and that’s something that we should have uh did a better job with. You know, we knew it was going to happen and um we didn’t play with enough energy, enough physicality from the jump um and make them uncomfortable. So, uh we knew that was going to happen and we didn’t respond um appropriately. came out more urgency. Um, that’s pretty much it. I think they came out, set the tone, and uh put us on our heels. How about their multitude of three-point shots? How hard was that to to get back because they scored 60 points through the through the three-point route? Um, yeah, we just got to guard them better as a team and um, you know, I think they had a lot of good looks and we got limited good looks. So, they going they you know, they’re going to get threes regardless. Just got to you know, limit just the wide openen ones. M, what does this team have to do to come out to much hotter starts? Is it just as simple as misses and makes? Um, no. I think just, you know, setting the tone defensively. Um, just pretty much I think we just got to be more aggressive in the beginning and um and start from there. Did you expect the defending champs to come out with that kind of vigor? Uh, for sure man. that’s, you know, that’s who they are. And um they knew it was going to be tough, especially and um you know, we just, you know, I think we might have let human nature get to us a little bit, but I think they just came out more urgent, you know, knowing that they’re down, but you know, we tried just got to be better. You know, we just got to come out and um have more urgency no matter, you know, what the series is. You know, we got to treat every game like it’s 00. How does this team have to come out Monday night? Um just some more urgency. Like I’ve been saying, just urgent and just aggressive. This is the third time that you guys been down by 20 in the game this series. Just are you seeing any any common threads in in all the leads that they’ve been able to build that maybe you can pinpoint to prevent them from being able to build a Yeah, just Yeah, just starting the game. I think just we got playm made faster offensively and defensively just you know limit you know their their wide open looks you know make it tough you know make them um you know make tougher shots. I think they was getting aggressive, getting layups, getting open threes. We just got to, you know, limit those tonight. U from the perimeter defense that might have been different from the first two games cuz it seemed like they were able to get going. You know, it’s it’s not just perimeter, it’s all of us, you know, it’s a team game and, you know, from, you know, perimeter to, you know, backline for me, my job. We just didn’t do enough today to, like I said, execution. I mean to execute a a level I told y’all we needed to execute the win tonight. Um they’re the defending champions for a reason. So uh they show their their medal tonight. Some of those were saying that you knew they were going to come out with intensity as defending champs. I think we all knew including So and some what Josh was saying didn’t match it. No, I mean we I mean it’s obvious we didn’t match it. I mean we just didn’t execute at a higher level. You know some I think sometimes you always say you know you’re not making shots. So that’s how they’re up. But we just we we made it u we gave them too many good looks and you know they capitalized on it and um you know we just didn’t do enough to uh put ourselves in a position to win tonight. Colin I know you guys have won your road games but uh disappointing to be one and three at home in the finals. I mean it’s disappointing to lose in general. I mean it doesn’t matter if it’s home or away. Obviously you want to win in front of your fans but you know regardless wherever we could get a win we’ll take you know we’ll take those W’s. um just just didn’t do enough tonight to come out the win. Carl, where can you guys find that urgency from the jump rather than you guys find yourself at a big hole? I mean, it’s the NBA playoffs, you know, you got to we all got to walk in with that kind of urgency. Um it shouldn’t be something that we have to tell people to do. So, um, you know, it falls on all of us to, um, you know, come in with that kind of urgency, that desperation, that, um, that will, uh, not when we’re down 20, you know, to find start finding, uh, a way to, um, find a way to win. We got to find a way to win when we’re, you know, tied up with them. Is there a common thread in going behind 20 like you mentioned? Um, just not executing, you know, enough. I know I know I’m going to say the word and you’re going to get tired of hearing me say it, but it’s true. Um the team that executes, you know, the most and for the longest duration of time, you know, um usually ends up winning in the playoffs and we just we just didn’t execute enough early on, too. And we gave them confidence. They started hitting some shots and um which is unfortunate. We couldn’t match up with them with their offensive firepower at the time. So, it put us in a in a hole. We just never found ourselves uh like usually getting out of the 20 point hole and and finding a way to tie the game and win the game. We just couldn’t do that tonight. I told you last time, we can’t afford to keep doing that type of game. We’re going to, you know, it’s going to it’s going to cost us. Just to start, what did you see was the the difference today? You guys were able to make comebacks the last few games. What What was the difference in this one? goes um well uh they were 20 to 40 um from three and so uh there’s there’s not a lot I could say is um a lot that we need to discuss tomorrow um and figure out but uh we need to play with more of a sense of urgency. Um Josh and uh Calakana said the same thing that the urgency wasn’t there. Why why do you think that was for such a big game? They didn’t have the urgency needed. Um, I don’t think we uh came with the mindset of uh being satisfied, but I think it was just subconsciously satisfied um being up 2, but um it’s not the way we need to approach the game. Jaylen, you’ve talked about how your mentality when dealing with social media and the external factors is to flush it away. flush it and and kind of ignore the noise. How do you flush this win away, so to speak, but also remember and learn from the mistakes that were committed? Are you asking me to flush social media or the game? The game. Okay. Um, it’s not really a flush situation. Um, we got to learn from it. I mean, obviously, it’s not a uh a game where we did a lot of things particularly well, but we got to learn from it. It’s not something that we can just flush. And Jaylen, you you were caught in a lot of switches in the post on Al and Jaylen. Um, schematically and from an execution standpoint, what did you see from the defense tonight? From our defense? Yes. Um, not covering three-point line well. um find myself in situations where um I’m on guys obviously in the post, but I’m going to put up a fight regardless and um just force tough uh contested twos um when I’m in a position like that. So uh but we need to go to the three-point line a little better. Jaylen, obviously we don’t know what specific like coverage you guys are supposed to be in on certain place defensively, but it felt like there was a lack of communication more so tonight than other nights. Would you chalk that up to some of the kind of miscues on that end from from you guys? Yeah. Uh, it’s definitely a part of it. Um, I think it falls under the same umbrella as like the urgency part. Um, we need to have that on Monday.

I'm one of if not thee biggest Deuce fan out there….I believed in him from day 1, in fact before day 1…..Especially when Knicks fans turned on him early, because he was struggling making a jump shot in limited, erratic spot minutes and thibs riding his back just for breathing…..but with all that said…..I'm starting to get sick and tired of him just floating and going through the motions when on the court…..Get aggressive…..ATTACK!!!!!!!!!!!.
The reason the Knicks lost game 3 is because Thibs has seen the Knicks play 2 atrocious offensive games, made zero adjustments to address that.
Coach u need to make some changes give the guy a try to shine
Why the same five player all year use the bench guy s Brunson can't do it alown make fresh changes
That was a game seven for boston. KnicKs couldnt match the intensity!
You bunch sorry sons of
Come on guys next game go Knicks!! 💪🙏
You can't even run a simple f** pick-and-roll
20000 f**** fans show up to Madison square garden you guys f**** lay down like a bunch of bums
Toughness teamwork lack of ability to pass the basketball lack of ability to take quality shots lack of ability to break down a defense lack of ability to post up lack of ability to actually run an actual play lack of ability to play smart at home I mean what lack of ability you know you got to get out there and play hard when you get this game going what the hell did they do the whole game nothing what a joke and absolute joke this game was a zero effort from from minute one take the damn ball to the basket stop settling for jump shots I can't stand at these fade away jump shots go to the f**** basket
Mikal said it right, we have to come out with a faster start. Run the offense faster. Stop the walking up the ball. When thr 2nd unit is in the game the pace is much faster. That's what we need from the start of the game. Josh has to shoot the ball. Can't wait until the 3rd quarter to start attempting 3's and we're down 25 points. Thst's desparation. Be intentional. OG has to shoot more. He disappeared when his shots werern't falling.
Team pissed me off FR. Fans paid $1000 for that
WE GOT FUCKEDDDDDS AHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Knicks in 5!!!!!!!!!
Don’t play Mitch next game put more shooting on the floor put Kay at the 5 it should help coach

Nah bro you didn’t execute 36 min with only 21 pts .. bro the team been carrying you throughout the playoffs when the fck you gonna step up and win a game for us !! Until then STFU and stop talking bout what the team didn’t do and talk about how you need to step your fckn game up and put the team on your back for once !!! You a clown 🤡
🤖 Lets Go Knicks 🏀
match the energy let's go Knicks
I don't want the Knicks going out like the Yankees did. We started this game with no sense of urgency.🤬
I don’t want to hear that stupid coach Knicks need a better coach than this stupid coach
Idiotic Thibs demonizers. Brunson started this game with Hero Ball, and this game was over. Need I mention his horrific defense?
Leon…..please trade Brunson….please….
