Pat Riley’s Miami Heat Offseason Plan REVEALED?

Pat Riley’s Miami Heat Offseason Plan REVEALED?

[Music] Has Pat Riley’s off seasonason plan for the Miami Heat been revealed this past week? Well, when he spoke at his end of the season press conference on Friday afternoon, alarm bells started to ring with me about what he could do this off season to improve the roster, but not completely overhaul it. and tear it all down because I don’t think he wants to do that and he remained pretty committal to Tyler Herro and Bameio is building blocks of this roster. Well, I wanted to share this quote before we got into more on today’s show. Pat Riley when speaking about the Heat’s upcoming offseason ahead, he said that we have a lot of flexibility in referring to its draft capital as well as its financial side of things and that’s where the blueprint is this summer. We do have to make changes and there has to be some change. Change is the highest form of sanity. So, it’s clear that there will be change to the roster. Just depends to see how much. And I have an idea on what that is going to look like or at least what the goal and plan is. But make sure you are following me over on X for daily Miami Heat content outside of our YouTube shows, news, analysis, trade rumors, talk about the Heat every single day, and you would have seen more of my takeaways from that Pat Riley press conference, as well as quotes, news, and my thoughts over there. So, follow me at nick_rolloff. Can we get to 1,800 on this account today? Come on, go give me a follow. I think the plan is this. It’s Mr. K. Dizzle, man. I think Kevin Durant is the main plan for the Heat. Again, Durant has been a player Pat Riley has tried to acquire four plus times over the last decade. In 2016, free agency in the trademark in 2019, trademark in 2022. He sort of tried to do it at the deadline last minute Jimmy for KD in this past trade deadline. And I think he’s going to try a fifth time this off season. Well, it’s not just what he said at the press conference, but it’s everybody around the league linking Kevin Durant to the Miami Heat. Mark Stein had this little report on Friday saying that the Heat are frequently forecasted as a team along with the Minnesota Timberwolves expect to show trade interest in the off season for Kevin Durant. What sort of clues Riley drops about his team building approach in the wake of 3745 campaign and painful first round playoff sweep inflicted by Cleveland will be of prime interest. But as I mentioned, Mark Stein is not the only person reporting that the Miami Heat will likely spin the tires on a potential Kevin Durant trade. Our own Barry Jackson had a similar report on Friday morning. That sense here is that while the Heat might again pursue Phoenix’s Kevin Durant, Miami isn’t going to offer all of its first round inventory for a 36-year-old going to be 37 when the season starts in October with one year left on his contract. So Barry believes they’re going to go after him, but not going to send the house, which we’ll talk more about that later in this episode. So you have Mark Stein, you have Barry Jackson, and then Ethan Skolnick of Five Reason Sports Network asked Barry or excuse me, asked Pat Riley at the presser on Friday about taking on potentially an aging star similar to Jimmy Butler like Kevin Durant is. Pat Riley responded saying that if it’s the right player and the right contract, yes, I’d be willing to do that. He says, you know what that means? Yeah, I do and I think everyone should as well at this point. Yeah, he’s referring to Kevin Durant. So that is now three kind of indications. Riley himself, Barry Jackson, Mark Stein, and you’ve even seen other publications like Bleach Report, which is the show we did on Saturday, talk about Kevin Durant to Miami. I think this is going to be something we are going to refer back to and discuss quite a bit this entire off season until Durant is ultimately traded elsewhere or the Heat come out and say, “We’re not trading for Kevin Durant.” But you make the call for me. Do you think KD is the 1A plan for the Heat and Pat Riley this off seasonason? Today’s pin comment so you can get hit with a YouTube adric. Hold on, scroll and let it play and go answer the question. Type Y for yes or type N for no. If you haven’t been able to tell already, I’d be typing my wise with all y’all down in the comments section if that’s what you type because I truly do believe that KD is the master plan for Pat Riley. I do because I mentioned it in the open of today’s show, but what did Pat Riley also talk about and respond to questions at the end of the season press conference on Friday. He was asked about Tyler Hero and that potential extension coming up in October. Was asked about Bamabio if they’re going to do a complete rebuild of the roster or just try to retool. Pat Riley remained very committed I should say. I don’t know if committ is a word. Tyler Hero in Bameabio referring to Hero’s contract extension looming. He’s eligible for $349.7 million deal in October. Now, O’Reilly did not confirm that they would be offering that max contract extension to Tyler this off season. They may wait to see if Hero can prove it and do it again and then offer him a 4-year $200 million deal next off season. But he said that both Hero and Bam are building blocks and that they are going to try to build around those two with players that complement their skill set and could help those two and help this organization win. And I think maybe he believes that’s Kevin Durant. Now, it’s fascinating to think about acquiring Kevin Durant because we talked about his contract a little bit earlier in the show. I have him as age 37. I know he’s only 36 right now, but when the season starts in October, because his birthday’s in September, he’s going to be 37. So to me, he’s 37 years old when we’re talking Heat basketball. He’s got one year left on his deal, $54.7 million. And then as an unrestricted free agent in 2026 27. So, if you acquire Kevin Durant, you either have to get him for absolutely nothing because he’s a one-year player, or you make the trade knowing you are going to give him a contract extension. And that’s the fascinating thing here. Is Pat Riley willing to offer him a contract extension while trading assets for him to make him the third pairing in the BAM Hero KD trio. We’re going to look at what that extension would look like and what a tradeoffer could also look like as well. But we are sponsored by Prize Picks, the daily fantasy sports app and platform. We talked about what a Kevin Durant trade contract extension would look like on a video a couple days ago, but if you need a little refresher, this is the conversation that we’re having. Kevin Durant is eligible for this off season a two-year extension worth approximately $120 million. that would obviously keep him in wherever he is three seasons 25 26 26 27 and then 2728 and the reason why I think Pat Riley may actually be willing to offer that to KD now it might affect Tyler Hero’s extension if the he’d actually do that and pull off a deal for KD because you can’t really pay three max guys at this point and you’d be doing that with KD Bam and Hero but the reason why I believe this could be something. Pat Riley is 80 years old and although at the press conference he said 80 is the new 60, he doesn’t see himself stepping down anytime soon. It would be a bit ridiculous for Pat Riley to continue being the president and basketball lead decision maker of this team at age 84. Could this be a final three-year swing for Riley? He trades for KD, gives him the extension, and says, “All right, I’ll try to get KD a ring.” bam a ring this fan base a ring in the next three seasons and then if it doesn’t work out well he retires and if it does work out well then he has his final swan song because Katie is still playing at a high level like I I don’t think that should be twisted here he is still really good man and he had one of his best seasons I think in my opinion offensively over the last decade I mean that Sun’s team was a bit of a disaster all year long he showed up to play 60 plus games this year give you 266 and four while shooting a ridiculous 52% from the field and 43% from three when you round up. Like just ridiculous numbers for a 36-y old man. And as I have consistently mentioned, his ability to score does not hinge on athleticism. So although he would be in Miami for age 37, 38, and 39 if you gave him an extension, I believe he would still be able to be a massively impactful offensive player due to his ability to just get to his spot, rise up due to his length and his shot form to give you buckets. I still believe KD can do that and be that guy. And he would also take the burden on the Heats offense a little bit off of Tyler Herro. Think about this. I know he was bad in the playoffs and he’s been bad in his career, but are the Cleveland Cavaliers faceguarding and doubling Tyler Herro if they also have to worry about guarding Kevin Durant? The answer is no. It also allows Bama to bio to transition to more of his natural role on a title team in my opinion which is that defensive anchor in third option offensively to where he can still give you big offensive games and he’s capable of doing that but he is not being relied on and pressured to give you 20 a night because that’s not what he wants to do. So, if you have KD and Hero giving you 25 and 23 a night and then Bam could just go back to that defensive um facilitator and third option role where he’s giving you 16 17 a night and playing top three defense in the world. Well, that’s a better role for him and overall probably for the Miami Heat. Make sure you are subscribed. We’re going to talk about a trade idea here in a second, but we’re going to talk about the Miami Heat every single day this off seasonason. And if a move happens, whether it’s in paradency trade or on the NBA draft night, we will have you covered. So, hit that sub button and join us today. I want to go back to what Barry Jackson said that we shared earlier in the show. He talked about how the Heat are going to be interested in KD and likely are going to pursue a trade but are not going to offer the entire chest of draft assets. And I think that is important to note what the Heat can offer this off seasonason in a trade when it comes to picks. They have their first round pick this year from Golden State, 20th overall. And then on draft night, two more picks become tradable. 2030 is already tradable first rounder. 2032 becomes available on NBA draft night June 25th and then their second round pick in that draft also becomes tradable. So they have three tradable first round picks this off season as well as a second round pick that they can deal away. Now I don’t think Miami is going to trade that for Kevin Durant. They wouldn’t trade all three slash4. I think they would maybe do two at max. So this is my KD trade idea. We’ve showcased it on the show before. And I could see how maybe this is a little bit too much at this point. I’m curious what you guys will say about this. He could KD Suns get Andrew Wiggins, Nicole Yoic, Duncan Robinson, the 20th pick from Golden State, and a 2030 pick, top 10 protected. Now, that would leave you 2032 and 2032 second. So you get the first and second round pick in that draft to still be able to make trades in the future, but you give up a young player in Yovic, a salary filler player in Duncan and Wiggins, and two firstrounders. I could also see and talk about maybe if you want to do this trade, eliminate the 2030 pick and just do Golden State’s pick, Yovic Wiggins, Duncan. also could see that being if you wanted to do Hakez instead of Yoic, keep Yoic, but still offer the two first round picks because you want to keep Yoic off the bench or as a better trade. Chad, let’s just say this trade though. Thoughts on the KD trade? Wiggins, Duncan, Yoic, two first for Durant. Is it N P a good perfect trade for both sides? Or is it M too much? get down in the comments section and give me my thoughts, your thoughts, I should say, on that trade idea. I think it could be just right. And let’s just say this, let’s play a hypothetical. We swap out Yoic in that trade and it’s Hawkins. So, it’s now Hakez, Andrew Wiggins, Duncan, two firstrounders. Well, in that perfect world, you could then package a Rosir Yovic combo to where you get off Rosier’s $26.6 million expiring. You attach a young player in Yovic who makes $4 million plus a first round pick. You could add another impact player. So, you could then add a Kevin Durant. You maybe that impact player is a good guard for 25 $30 million. So you now have that guard Tyler Hero Kevin Durant. That’s an interesting five. We signed Dave Mitchell in the offseason, sixman. Still have Haywood Highmith, still have Pel Larson. That’s very intriguing team here, folks. And I’m just throwing out ideas here. And I know this is going to be a little bit of a spazzy episode, if you will, but in that potential trade I just said, what if you send that to Boston? I know it would kill us to send Yovic to Boston. But what if you did that for Drew Holiday and now you have Drew Holiday as a defender alongside here on the back court? KD Bam and Wear. It’s a very versatile lineup offensively and defensively. Just throwing that out there. Just a quick idea that came to brain while filming this. But I will round out the show with saying this and it takes us back to the point of offseason plan revealed with Miami. To me, it actually seems like it’s going to be Kevin Durant or marginal change because Pat Riley said he’s open to adding a star, an aging star, if you will. But he also said he’s not going to blow up the roster, but could make some lateral moves that don’t improve the talent, but are better fits around Tyler and Bam in terms of locker room, in terms of skill sets. So, I think it’s either going to be the Heat strike a deal for Kevin Durant, they finally get their guy that they’ve been going after for the past 10 years plus, and then if they strike out on that and a team like Houston or Minnesota ultimately gets Durant instead of Miami, well, then the Heat just maybe move Andrew Wiggins for a different type of player on the same salary, moves Terry Rosir for a player that’s more impactful for that salary. I think that could be where this is heading in this off season if the Heat don’t get Kevin Durant. But as I consistently mention, we will be here every step of the way in the offseason. Every move the Heat make or don’t make, we’ll discuss. Every rumor, every piece of news, we’ll have you covered here at the channel. 1. Bleacher report just dropped a great tread idea. Heat gives: jokic, Wiggins, Robinson, two 1st rounders. They get back: markadin, sexton, clarkson. I think this trade works for both teams. Fits Miami’s timeline.

  2. N – I would try for a better defensive PG like Smart if available. He can offset Tyler's lack of defense and feed Hero the ball.

  3. The minute he puts on a heat jersey he blows his achilles again and youll have an old player collecting 60 mil a year and gave up your assets.Get a young star or go the okc route.

  4. It will come down to where KD wants to play, and the suns being willing to help trade him there.

  5. Didn't pay a more durable more team fitting Butler to pay a same aged glass boned Kd ….wow Pat sure is really stupeed

  6. I do think the Heat go after KD. I don’t think they have enough to give to a team building around Booker. They are going to like Minnesota packages way more, as they can offer much better players on Booker’s timeline. We’ll see what happens.

The structure of what you’re doing is a good idea for the Heat, but I just think it’s the wrong time/wrong guys. If we trade for KD there’s no way Boston deals us Jrue, and we are wiping all our assets out.

But conceptually, if we just swapped out Terry and Duncan for players that are actually worth those salaries, we are a MUCH better team.

That’s why I ultimately feel like the offseason should be about smaller ideas, and then you find out what you need to improve on first half of the season given Jovic and Ware’s level of play, as well as other team needs. Rozier and Duncan are valuable contracts at the deadline. Less valuable in the offseason.

I don’t want KD. It’s not a championship move, but neither is giving Bam a max contract. I didn’t hear Riley say anything about winning a championship, and I think he’s more about earning back respect for “heat culture”. I think Pat is fine with a 5-6 seed team that loses in the second round, because he can bolster Heat Culture (aka Pat Culture) again.

  7. Miami Heat culture will be back next season and get New players and drafting New players 2025 and 2026 will be our year to win many games and winning awards and other will be a Nba All Star and we will be the top seed and will get Revenge on your rival team and it will be sweet revenge to beat Cleveland to clean sweep in the playoffs next season and Miami Heat culture will win the playoffs game and winning the Eastern conference finals in year 2026 and others members in the Miami Heat will the first time ever championship and winning the fourth championship it will be a miracle and joining popular superstars ever and a jersey retirement very soon and dreams come true and we deserve it and congratulations and thankful and grateful being taught well so much in history of all time as a legend and in the 305 all do is win Jesus and mother of Marry and created all of us and in Jesus name Amen 💞🙏 so thank you and we are lolaty and respect and never give up in greatness ❤

  8. M

Can we stop putting N. Jovic in every KD trade?! Why is Robinson, Wiggins, Jaquez, Rozier/Anderson and a pick not enough?!

We need to keep Bam, Herro, Mitchell, Ware, Pelle and Jovic.

    Everyone else is an asset…

  9. Why do you want to trade Wiggins when the Suns will most likely trade him at the end, I think two expiring contracts are much more desirable for the Suns

  10. We should give Wiggins back to Golden State for Kuminga on a sign and trade. They know what they’re doing with Wiggins, they love him, and if you’ve ever heard Spo talk about how he wants Wiggins to play, he wants him to play like Kuminga.

I know he’s asking for close to his max which is like $35 million, but I think he’s going to way outperform that contract. With KD we’re in a rushed 2-3 year window. With Kuminga the window is much larger.

This is what sucks about Bam and makes everyone nuts. Spo needs a downhill player, Bam at the wing is supposed to be that, but he can’t do it. So it’s just another weakness we have to address using different personnel, and it will have to be at the expense of 3 point shooting.
