Jayson Tatum: A Lot Comes With Being ‘THAT GUY’ | Celtics Knicks Game 3 Postgame
Um, don’t don’t think too much of it. Um, you know, I mean, it’s it’s the playoffs. It’s the biggest time of the year. There’s going to be a different narrative essentially at the every game. Um, and you know, I’ve been on record, I talk about it a lot, just not riding a emotional roller coaster of a win or or a loss. Um, you know, just understanding that this core group, we’ve we’ve been through a lot of series together, a lot of games, a lot of moments. Um, so just continue to rely on each other throughout, you know, whatever we’re going through. How difficult is it to block out all of that discourse? Do you Yeah, I do. What adjustments you guys did today? Um, I think one thing we were just we tried to be more intentional about our spacing. Um, you know, getting guys in the right spots. Um, you know, um, we always talk about respecting each other’s space. Um, you know, and, you know, being intentional about what action we want to be in and, uh, you know, who we’re trying to attack, whatever the case may be. I think our spacing was a big part of that. Jason, after seeing so many quality looks not go down in the first two games, how much of a relief and a confidence booster was it to see the process and the results align more closely today? Uh, it’s just a matter of time. U, we’re all professionals. We we work really hard on our craft. We put a lot of time in. Um, you understand there’s, you know, times where, you know, your shot might not be falling. Um, but, you know, it always balances out. Jason, I was going to ask that that maybe it’s just totally oversimplified analysis, but when that first three-pointer was like literally nothing but net, it didn’t even touch the rim. Does it register? Do you feel like, “All right, I’m in for a good night, or is that maybe way too oversimplified?” Uh, I mean, it’s a great feeling when you know, you shot falling and you feel good and confident. uh you know just as a basketball player it you feel great when your shot is going in uh but it can’t you know that’s not the end all be all it’s a lot more factors that go into the game obviously but uh you know that’s a very important one for sure you sense it took anything out of them I mean when you guys start whatever it was six out of seven do you see any shoulder sagging or anything like that like damn they’re off today uh no I wasn’t paying too much attention patention to their body language, anything. Jason Joe has stressed over and over to us about cutting down ball turnovers. Obviously, you never want to turn the ball over. What over the course of the game? What’s the key to kind of having awareness to it, having a rhythm that you’re not doing that? What kind of get behind that? Make sure you don’t do that. I mean, yeah, they’re they’re really talented team, so you start giving them opportunities in transition. Um, you know, to to run and guys start getting open threes and layups, um, the half court shots, you know, start to become a little easier. So, you know, taking care of the ball is essential to any game plan, regardless of whoever you playing. Um, you know, you got to take care of the ball. Jason, over the course of the regular season, you guys had some of those inexplicable losses at home, then you go on the road and dominate on the road, kind of answer a lot of questions. Why is that happening again? Um, is it just like a weird thing that’s happened? And what is it about after those really tough losses at home that getting on the road kind of snap some things into focus? Um, you know, home court is is important. Um, being great in front of our fans is important and you know how much we value their support. Uh, but at the same time, right, every if you want to be special, if you want to be great, um, you got to win some games on the road. Um, but more importantly, it’s just about responding, right? We want to be perfect. We want to, you know, win every game. Um essentially that’s just it’s not going to happen. Um but how do you respond to those moments? Um you know is is equally important as well. Jason all the know players they all wanted to in MSG especially people talking about you know this is the most important game in this century and do you feel like after this game you already you already put your statement and showing people what type of player you are and you’re such a uh No, I wasn’t I wasn’t trying to prove anything today to to anybody. Uh just uh it was an important game. It was important for us to respond as a team and just wanted to come out here and win. Uh and that’s all that was really on my mind. when you have one of these stretches, you have a few days between games and you get in the gym with Drew and you’re able to work on things. What feels different when you get to the game? Are you just like reccalibrated and everything’s right or is it like a mental confidence thing? Like what do you feel differently? Um, I mean it’s just part of it’s a long season. Uh, and you know, you you go through stretches where uh maybe you don’t need to change anything, but you just need to to get in the gym and and see some shots go in and and just kind of get your rhythm going. Uh, you know, that’s where the confidence stems from. Um, all the work that you put in, the muscle memory and things like that. Um, and you know, been doing that my whole life. Jason, you’ve been heavily criticized throughout the year, throughout your career. Uh, you know, people have been tough. Um, when you hear that, are you you’ve kept your you took you took the bullet a couple days ago when you talked to us. Are you you feel any different over the last few days? Do you is it does it change you or are you more numb to it? Like what is it that you’re do? Like what is it that you’re doing to keep so cool? before the game, you’re laughing, you’re joking, like one of the bigger games of your career, not the biggest, but one of them. I mean, what is it that you keep cool? What are you doing? Um, you know, you just you understand what comes with being that guy, right? Um, I live a great life. I ain’t going to lie. It’s a lot of take I make a lot of money. I take care of my family. I’ve been able to experience a lot of things. Um, but you also have to accept what comes with that, right? You I get a lot of praise. I get a lot of credit. I get a lot of accolades. Um, but you know, I’m not perfect and there’s times where, you know, I’ve needed to play better. I needed to do more. And, you know, that’s what comes with being, you know, that guy. Um, so just understanding that. And it’s not, you know, that people don’t just criticize me as there’s a lot of people that came before me that they criticize and it’s going to be people that, you know, come after me that they criticize. Uh, and, you know, for me, it’s just it’s a sense of joy that I play with, right? You know, coming into a game, you know, with an angry face and mad at the world, that’s that’s not who I am. That’s not when I play my best. Um, so I always say, you got to be the same person when things are going great. Um, and when things aren’t going great, um, you know, you can’t switch up. That’s the, you know, it’s the character of a of a good man. Last question. Is there a temptation to want to do more, like you just said, like you need to play better? Is there a temptation to want to do too much, to want to exploit every mismatch, to want to take the kill shot every single time? Like, how do you balance wanting to do more with, oh, we had a pretty good team around us, we can do what we do, do it and we’ll be fine. Uh just reading the game. Um I know who I am. I know what I’m capable of. I know what I can do. Um and I know what is needed on each possession um in order for us to to win. Um you know, I’m not trying to prove anything or anything like that. Um today was just about making sure that we win. um however that looks, whatever is needed. Um and it, you know, our team is so talented and and well put together. It can look different from night to night. You all know that. We we’ve said that a million times and we’ve proven that, you know, we can be successful doing that. Uh so each night it just look different and uh you know, as long as we win this time of year, it’s all that matters. Thanks.

Yeah stop forcing stuff you are not kobe.. slim shady is the hero of this game
He played great and I admire him.
Tatum had a couple of iso against Robinson and Brunson but not once tonight was he able to drive into middy or to the cup for a quality shot. Still settling on the 3 point too much. Personally, I don’t he successfully adjusted yet, still playing the same passive way. Hope he gets more aggressive and locked in next game. 🙏
lmao he still wasnt that guy, Payton Pritchard led the way. Tatum's a fake first option that bitches more than a child who doesnt get their candy. he spits in Kobe's good name (RIP) by continuing to pretend hes anything like the Mamba. i have a lot of respect for the other Celtics players above Tatum. when are we gonna hear more "sources close to him" bitch about his being disrespected again? whiny as hell with a whole roster filled with all stars lol
Boston rolled into MSG and treated it like a hostile takeover.
No drama. No comeback. Just efficient, surgical violence in front of 20,000 fans lookin’ like they just watched a puppy get shot.
KARL-ANTHONY TOWNS?
Dropped 21 and 15, sure — but he also shot 5-for-18 like the rim filed a restraining order.
Every time someone touched his hand, he grabbed it like he just lost a limb.
"I broke it…" Bro, shut up. You tweaked a nail.
Al Horford — 38 years old, built like a history teacher, five kids deep — made KAT look like an emotional 7-foot toddler who forgot his juice box.
OG ANUNOBY?
Nah. Don’t even try to hype that man.
1-for-6 from the field. Two points.
Looked like he was trying to win a game of hide and seek — with the basketball.
Wasn’t “that ain’t happenin’ again” — it didn’t even fin’ happen the first time.*
MITCHELL ROBINSON?
Boston ran Hack-a-Mitch like it was their favorite f***in’ minigame.
4-for-12 from the line. Every foul was a strategic vacation for the Celtics.
“Oh no, we fouled Mitchell? Oh well, let’s sub in, hydrate, go over plays, maybe file taxes…”
He’s a free timeout in sneakers.
JOSH HART?
Put in 43 minutes and had all the impact of a houseplant.
He’s not a shooting guard — he’s a running back who forgot the ball.
JALEN BRUNSON?
Still the heart of the team — but the man looks like he’s been carrying the boroughs and the Bronx Zoo on his f***in’ back.
Short, stocky, and sweating bacon grease.
Respect to the hustle, but the gas tank’s blinking and the engine’s knockin’.
PAYTON PRITCHARD?
Came off the bench with 23 points, 5 threes, and a grin like he just finessed the Knicks out of their rent money.
He was splashin' from deep while Thibs had a panic attack on the sideline.
Bench player. Lookin’ like Steph Curry with a student loan.
TATUM & BROWN?
Cruised for 41 combined. Barely broke a sweat. Treated the Knicks defense like a f***in’ walkthrough on rookie difficulty.
THIBS?
Running his starters into the f***in’ Earth like it’s Game 7 every night.
My man treats “load management” like it’s a slur.
KNICKS FANS?
Talkin’ about 20-point comebacks like they’re recurring dreams.
“Don’t worry, we’ve done it before!”
Yeah, and you also haven’t won a ring since gas was 40 cents. Sit down.
Game 4?
Pack up the “Big Knick Energy.”
The Celtics comin’ to stomp that out like a fire in the projects.
Well you are not that guy
what is bro wearing
Now that's the Celtic team I know and love!! Great playing!!!
☘️👌
Whats with the suspender getup. Goofy
Celtics are fantastic players they will win it all they are great players O blessthem !always Amen 🙏
Knicks is in trouble
Celtics in 5 1/2
Soft
Derrick White and Jalen Brown guna carry this bum to another ring
yea
yea and son
A great player and a greater person…………………………….
Good thing he’s not the guy
Man plays great when nothing is on the line
Dude crumbles anytime there’s pressure
And the game to win or tie he’s nowhere to be found
He’s like o for life with games on the line
Fade away into three defenders and miss Fobe
Fake Kobe the past 5 years I’ve watched
This dude play great all year and then disappear in the playoffs
I’ve never seen someone constantly fall short
Yet still be called great
In the game up 20 3 minutes left trying to get 20
Points all that padded stats last year was window dressing
Thank god for JB who’s been better is a dawg hurt and still balling
Bottom line I’ve been the biggest HATUM
And this year I eased off him I said JT hungry
He’s mad about not being the guy even tho he’s supposed to be the guy
He’s mad about Olympics he wants to have that dawg he wants to be better than JB
He wants finals MVP nope I was fooled
I feel betrayed I thought he was different
Same old JT I would love to trade him for like half of okc squad
And some picks keep everyone else
As a human sure he’s a great dad he’s a nice guy
I want a shark I want him to act like KG or dray even
Is what it is I’ve done said it 3 years before last year the world saw JB
But I says if JB was a half a year younger half inch taller
And had little better handles no body would have ever questioned
He is better than JT
Ya there a duo it’s great but someone needs to step up
And one needs to fall back
Trade Tatum. Build around Brown. Fire Mazulla.
Not a worry in the world. They know the have the knicks hearts
It was nice to see his 3 ball going in but he was still settling too much it’s kinda annoying for a stretch he was locking in on that mid range and getting to the cup get more back to that
Jayson "you know" Tatum and Joe "margins" Mazzulla. Love this W. Cant wait for the next one, Knicks will fight back, but we'll be ready too.
Credit to JT's mom. She raised him to be this decent man.
Watching this man grow since his rookie season has been a pleasure. Both on and off the court, this man is a role model in this league.
JT slow down with the Um’s brother your to smart to start every sentence with
Umm 😂😂😂😂😂
Such a mature. Responsible man. He is "That guy" for the Boston Celtics. He follows in the tradition of Bill Russell. John Havlicek. Larry Bird. Paul Pierce.. We are truly lucky to have this next generation Leader on the Parquet….
I understand y’all are millionaires and fashion can be a hobby. But bro come on can we stop this. Throw on a hoodie bro you look like a guy who just showed up for his first day of farming.
He’s embracing the scrutiny. 40 ball incoming Monday
Let’s go Celtics
Let them hate Jayson just keep living your life my brother!!! Let’s go Celtics!!!
You can tell he's a goat because he does podiums like Tom Brady.
Remove Tatum from this team with any other top 30 player and this team is even better! that's right Boston Tatum is so overrated! 30ppg in the regular season with 1/3 of his shot attempt are 3 LOL. Such a superstar u R
Keep being great JT
I got his jersey in my wardrobe but wtf is with the one strap overall get up? Dress like a champ not Russell Westbrook 🤦♂️
The laugh means something
PSA to the reporters stop asking the dumbest questions and phrasing it looking for a dumb click bait answer when they clearly see right through it. Be better!
Fuck them Road games we would have rather been the ones up 2-0 going to the knicks court and stealing a road game to be up 3-1 but no yall would rather let them have 2 back to back wins at our home and then have to work our way back into the series by winning road games 🤦🏽♂️
FACE OF THE NBA
ONLY PROBLEM IS YOU ARE NOT THAT GUY TATUM 😂😂😂
what's with the coveralls JT? Your to wealthy to wear coveralls that's a working mans cloths. Wear the bling man, that's what we want to see.
tatum took control of this game in the 2nd half holding ball till shot clock almost expired
Celtics getting smoked tomorrow at the garden n he knows. They gave them calls , Vegas made the call . Knicks in 5 or 6 .. 🫡
