How Phoenix Suns are impacted by Dallas Mavericks getting No. 1 pick/Houston Rockets staying at 10

But yes, all of the NBA is talking about and laughing at the fact that of all of the teams to win the NBA draft lottery, the Dallas Mavericks and their 1.8% chance of doing so in the same year in which they traded Luca to the LA Lakers. Yeah. Almost as if they got rewarded for their own incompetence by, hey, you know what? That fan base deserves better than that. That that that idiot traded Luca. But we’ll go ahead and give you Cooper flag. Every not everybody. A lot of people are screaming just pure conspiracy right now about this. You said it was the what? The 40th anniversary of the of the frozen envelope. Anniversary of the frozen envelope with Patrick Ewing and the Knicks. People are screaming conspiracy about this one too. Gimbo. Well, yeah. Unless Nico made one of those, you know, golden fiddle deals with the devil. You know, I bet I’ll bet your soul fiddle and cold. You know, just give me a Cooper flag. Yeah. I You can have my soul. Do whatever. But I’m gone. Yeah. The the uh It’s like doing everything wrong and then like like they did everything wrong and then you get rewarded for it. Rewarded for it. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Everything wrong. And that’s where that’s where the the conspiracy is kind of like rooted in like like hey that’s that’s too important of a team for the NBA to allow them to not be without Luca. That’s too important of a fan base in our league for them to be without a superstar or or I mean whatever they or or maybe even a thank you to the Dallas Mavericks for trading Luca to the Lakers and what that’s going to mean for eyeballs and revenue and rating and all that. Either way, I’m not sure I buy it. I’m just telling you what people are saying online about it that they’re looking at it as pure straight conspiracy. When the team that has Luca and trades Luca and has a 1.8% chance of winning the lottery wins the lottery when there’s a generational talent like Cooper flag available. Everyone’s screaming about it right now. Yeah. And this kid is a generational talent. I mean led Duke into the final four this year. Shot 48% from field, 38.5% from three-point range, 84% from the free throw line. He was with the US Olympic team. He in training camp he held his own against all those guys. People were bragging about how good he was. And now you look at that team and you know if things go according to plan like you’ll have you right now they’ve got Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson of Cooper Flag, Anthony Davis, Daniel Gaffford, you’ve got Lively there like that’s if Kyrie’s capable to come back at some point next year. Right now they need guard play. They’re really struggling at the guard play. I think Spencer Denw is all they really had. But if if Kyrie’s able to come back even later in the year, that would be a boost for them. They’re going to be good. And now you’ve got Kooper Flag to deal with in the West and then, you know, the number two pick went to the Spurs who have two lottery picks. By the way, the Spurs have two lottery picks. So that, you know, they can get better or use those picks in a trade to help themselves. So the West just got a lot tougher. A lot tougher. Yeah, you got a text from Jason Kid moments after I was talking with Jason during the I was talking with Jason like you know cuz he was in California and uh and he texted me like wow he’s just wow crazy uh first the first one was just like wow when they got in the top four and then when they got number one he’s like wow this is crazy so he’s like obviously very excited now by now we’ll talk about the Suns in a second here but in a way I feel like we are talking about the Suns because these are teams that they’re going to be competing with in the Western Conference obviously nothing happened with the Suns. The Rockets are picking 10th, so we don’t have to worry about it. A word about San Antonio for a second. And and with them sitting at number two, can you imagine if they would have finished with number one and it’s Cooper Flag and Wimbeyama and De’aran Fox and Stefon Castle and all of that stuff. But even sitting at number two, it has been pointed out by Evan Cittery on Twitter and others. And I’m just going to read this word for word. The Spurs now have a golden asset with the number two pick to potentially offer the Bucks in a package for Giannis and Tentacmpo. Right. San Antonio earns a owns a surplus of picks and a compelling core of young talent. Um he’s wondering and other people are wondering too. You mentioned they’ve got two lottery picks. They’re at two and 14. Two and 14. They’ve got all that young talent. Are the Spurs the team to watch in a Giannis trade because of everything that they can offer? And I think the answer is maybe. We’ll have to see. They got salaries that can match up. Like you’d have to put like you have Bassels. Bassel’s at about 28 29 million. You’ve got Harrison Barnes uh salary you could use. You’ve got young players in in Soon and Castle if you wanted to move one of them. But you’ve got the second and 14th pick. If you’re Milwaukee and you’re going to get off of uh Yiannis, you know, those picks are intriguing. You know, give me both picks. Give me some players and let’s make a deal. Oh, I I mean, look, it you’re only trading. And by the way, if you if you missed the news, we even talked about this once today. Shams over at ESPN reported that Giannis is contemplating what he wants to do. He’s open. He’s he’s he’s open to the idea. Yeah. And so if he if he’s open to the idea, that might be code for, oh yeah, send us your best offer. If they make Giannis available, they’re going to get unbeliev but it’s got to be a place where Giannis wants to go. He can dictate this. He can control that. he might want to go to San Antonio to play with Victor Wimbeyama and and and certainly San Antonio’s got the assets to go make a whopper of a mother of a package to go get him with all these draft picks and players. I think yeah, again, they have the number two pick. They’ve got the number 14 pick. They’ve got terrific young talent. I mean, I loved Soon, I love Castle. I think there’s some really good young talent there. Um, I think they’ve got a lot of future draft assets, too. I think I think they’ve got like a surplus of picks coming up in there. I have to look that up to be sure, but I think they have a surplus of pickle was the rookie of the year. So, like, you know, you’ve got if you could hold on to some of those guys. And again, I think there’s some contracts you could trade. Milwaukee is not going to want Harrison Barnes, but you got to make contracts work somehow uh to make it work. But I think, yeah, getting the second pick in the four, they might say, “Listen, we don’t really want the second pick. We’ll we’ll trade that if it gets us Giannis.” I think that they would. But again, I think that roster is really talented. I think it’s a good the Spurs have a really good roster. And now if they want to make a trade for if long as Giannis wants to go there, and I don’t know why he wouldn’t because it’s a young talented team that he could lead to a championship, it makes sense to me that that would be a team that he’d want to go to if he wants out of Milwaukee. And he he probably does want out of Milwaukee. Dame’s out for the year. Yeah, they’re not they’re not a threat to win it anymore in the East, I don’t believe. And once again, the Houston Rockets finished at number 10. So, while that’s bad, if you’re the Suns, their pick conveys to Houston. While that’s bad, um it’s not. You brought up a really interesting point and one maybe that we’ll talk a little bit more tomorrow about. Could you make an argument that if Houston is going to do a deal with the Suns for Kevin Durant that they’d be better off giving the Suns 10 back now and banking that the Suns wouldn’t be very good in 27 and 29? Yeah. You know, we will we won’t give you those picks back, but we’ll give you 10. We’ll give you 10. So, now you’ve got two first round picks this year. Got two first round picks. Start your rebuild. Go get the 10th best player in the draft. Yep. I wonder I because you could make an argument 27 and 29 could be better picks from the Suns. I’m holding on to Or at least better odds from the Suns that they’re not going to be very good. Yeah, I’m holding on to those picks if I’m if I’m Houston. I don’t want to give those up. I now again the 10th pick in the draft you probably feel like okay if I can go if it goes gets me Durant but again it depends on what they have to give up to get Kevin Durant and there’s been a lot of talk about what they have to give up Jaylen Green Jabari Smith would they give up an E would they give up a Shepard or Whitmore what do they have to give we don’t know for sure right now there’s a lot of back and forth on how much Houston even wants Kevin Durant so we’re going to have to let that play out a little bit thanks for watching Burns and Gambo click to see more from the guys and hit the button in the middle to subscribe so you never miss a video from Arizona Sports.
