Hour 2: What is Trending | Giannis Wants Out of Milwaukee? | Will the Utah Jazz Get Lucky?

It’s time to get your morning started with the news you need to know. News of late. This is what’s trending with DJ and PK. #NBA. Left ankle left ankle injury. Um, he’ll get a MRI tomorrow. No idea. I mean, you know, obviously he couldn’t go in the second half. So, um, see what the MRI says. ducks right goes and floats a 12oot jumper that goes not clean but back rim and through Gilas Alexander in transition with early offense has 21 Thunder 81 the Nuggets 78 timeout Denver whooping left to right into the paint spins and fades over the right shoulder the 16 foot jumper nothing but net Gildis Alexander a big shot he scored the last two Thunderbuckets has 23 in game four and OKC’s up five 8378 highlights from the NBA playoffs, which with the news breaking this morning are old news. Sorry, playoffs, move over. The future of the league, short-term and long-term, is at stake right now. Playoffs. Playoffs. You want me to talk about playoffs? Nobody cares. We’ll get to the playoffs in a minute. Shams tweeted out during the last segment. Two-time NBA MVP Jiannis Tempo. By the way, if you don’t know who Shams is, are you’re listening to this show? Well, thank you. Sham Shirania, ESPN NBA insider. Yes. And he used to be in a duel. There were two guys who tried to break news in the NBA at a level that no one else was keeping up with. And one of those guys is now working in college basketball as a general manager. So the other one is the guy, two-time NBA MVP, Jiannis Antompo, has not made any firm decisions, comma, but for the first time in his career, he’s open-minded about whether his best fit is remaining in Milwaukee or playing elsewhere, league sources told ESPN, “Let that marinate, people. Giannis is on the move. Is that a surprise? No. Have there been rumors about this before? Yes. He has strongly resisted them. He has made clear he likes Milwaukee. He doesn’t seem to care that much about the cold or the wind or the market size or the lack of success. They got to the mountaintop and won a championship. Theoretically, maybe they could have won another one and they didn’t, but that’s a debate for another day. They got one and then injuries wrecked his tag team partner and they had to move on from Chris Middleton and they tried and they worked and they and they went out and they got Damen Lillard and they tried and it didn’t work and now Lillard not only did he get injured this year but it looks like he won’t play next year and if he does it looks like he’ll play very briefly. He’ll come back later than Jordan came back and it’s just there’s no way forward. They’re old. They don’t have assets. Their second best player is injured and the clock’s ticking on Giannis’s prime. Two, three, four years left as a prime player. You know, we can all debate that. Where’s he going to be traded? He is never going to say, “I want out of Milwaukee.” He won’t do that to Bucks fans. He’s got too much PR sense. He might have just seriously just have too much genuine love for the city. he might appreciate going from, you know, Greece and real poverty, real poverty in Greece to this is a guy that wants multi-millionaire Milwaukee. It’s I think he’s got too much appreciation. He doesn’t have this is enough to make a trade happen without massive blowback on him or massive blowback on the Bucks. They have played their hand out. any Bucks fan, you take off the uh the green green goggles, you can see there isn’t a way forward for this team to compete at championship level, and there is for him. Move him now. Get assets. Don’t do a long rebuild. Well, this was a guy when he was a rookie was caught. Well, it wasn’t caught, but he was running down the street cuz he he didn’t have his car with him. He’s taking something to a location. So, just decided he was going to run between his apartment and some lady pulled over and said, “Hey, are you on?” I was like, “Yeah.” He’s like, “You want to ride? He lived in Milwaukee. Milwaukee loves him. Exactly. He ran places when he was a kid in Greece. He thought it like So he figured I’ll just run here in Milwaukee. You know, you’re an NBA mega star now. You don’t have to do that anymore. So draft lottery tonight. Who will they trade with? You know, where are the Jazz on the I mean, you probably draw up 10 teams where you could try to come up with a plausible trade. I don’t think we’ll get into this later in the show. I don’t think the Jazz are in the top group. I don’t think they’re in the lower group. I think there’s teams that they’re more likely to cut a deal with than the Jazz. But that didn’t really matter cuz only going to cut one deal. And I don’t think the Jazz are in the top tier because not to the Kumbbo due to the length of his contract, his willingness to resign and the price he’s going to garner. I think he’s going to say, “I’ll reup with people who are closer to a championship. I don’t think he wants to go to a complete new rebuild.” Now, I do think that whatever Giannis thinks right now will change in 10 hours and 10 minutes because in 10 hours and 10 minutes, we’ll know where Cooper Flag is going. And depending on the team you’re looking at, whoever gets the number one pick, their path to greatness and rebuilding changes quickly. So, we’ll get into this in the next segment, but there’s the breaking news. freshes the last segment. So, we got it to you in this segment. Jiannis Ansto Kimbo open-minded about whether his best fit is remaining in Milwaukee, which I think if you speak NBA means, okay, go ahead and trade me. I won’t I I’m I’m ready to go. But I’m not going to say anymore out of respect for Milwaukee fans. I’m not saying you have to trade me or I’m not coming to camp. He’s not going to do that. No, this is enough. And the Bucks know they need to move on and now it’s going to happen. Correct. I believe behind the scenes there’s a whole different story going on in terms of the conversations, but there were playoff games. Yeah. Huh. But he’s not going to ever go out and outright say, “This is enough. This is enough. It’s time to go now.” Uh, you heard Kenny Atinson on Donovan Mitchell’s injury. Donovan Mitchell fourth trip to the second round. And they had their guys back. They’d won big in game three. He’d had back-to-back 40point games. It looked like everything lined up. And then they get their stuff. I I mean I Wow. They got drilled. They got hammered. They got blown out. They got annihilated. It doesn’t feel like any of those words is enough. They were down 41 points at halftime. Donovan didn’t come out for the third quarter. They say he’s got an ankle injury. MRI today. They’re down three games to one. I know crazy things have happened, but they got two of they got two or three at home, but home doesn’t seem to matter nearly as much as it used to. We’re getting a lot of evidence for that. So, man, Donovan out in the second round again will really make it to the conference final. He’s getting to the point in his career where Stockton Malone were getting asked the same question. Get into this later in the show, too. And Denver could, would a, should have. Two teams shot very poorly. Two teams I Nobody wants to miss shots and nobody wants to play a 17 to8 first quarter. So I guess those teams were just spent after Friday night’s overtime game. I don’t know what else to say. They played like 30 hours apart from each other. Friday was a classic. It was sure. But we’ve seen NBA games played back to back at a high level. You saw the excuses or threw me and thrown out there. I did. And and but there’s a fine line between excuses and reasons. And for everybody to suck at shooting the basketball when everyone is highly motivated to get a win. Denver desperately wants to go up 3-1. Oklahoma City desperately needs to get to 2-2. This isn’t game one, bounce back. We’re getting near the end of the series now. Jokic, he admitted he’s like, I’m I’m in a slump right now. And that’s Oh, he is. He’s had three He’s had three games in a row where his and I think it’s how they defend him and the athletes they have and the size they have and the focus on him and how good his supporting cast is or isn’t. Celtics Knicks tonight. David Lock and I were talking about who has the best chance of coming back. Cleveland’s chance of coming back is taking a hit. Doesn’t mean either one of us is right. I’ll have a better chance of being right if the Celtics can pull it together in game four tonight at 5:30. I don’t know if you watch the end of that game, but you may well watch the start because that game’s going to start about 10 or 15 minutes after the draft lottery and they reveal who’s number one. It’s a 5:00 show for the draft lottery. My guess is they reveal it sometime between 5:15 and 5:20. And by 5:35 that Celtics Knicks game should have tipped off. Timberwolves Warriors game four at 8:00. But man, Steph’s out. The Warriors are in trouble. DJ and PK #col basketball. The NCA men’s basketball rules committee in an effort to enhance the floor games has recommended that video reviews over out of bounds calls can only be initiated by a coach’s challenge. The goal is to avoid lengthy disruptions, particularly late in games. That’s hilarious. Hey, coach’s challenges are coming to college hoop. Let’s go. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. lengthy delays late in college basketball games. Was there a college basketball game that didn’t have a lengthy delay late in the game that wasn’t decided by 30 or 40 points between Jim Valvano fouling out? It won Thorough Bailey and Jim Valvano and NC State and a national championship. They wouldn’t have won multiple games in the tournament if they hadn’t fouled late. So, I get it. But everybody does it all the time. It’s a constant and it’s basically a hack shack for 300 plus teams because none of them really can be counted on to make pressure free throws. So you just foul all the time and that doesn’t count the guys who hoard the timeouts for the end of the game. College basketball is nothing but a slog in the final two minutes. Anyway, in addition to recommending the use of coaches challenges, points of emphasis to improve flow will include directiveness to address delay of game tactics, limit time spent at the monitor, improve game administration efficiency, and reduce physicality. And put the double bonus in earlier. Put in the old NBA rule, three to make two. There was a time, kids, where if you got fouled in the NBA and the team was in a bonus, they didn’t just get two free throws. They got three of them until they made two. If you miss either one, you got the third one. Stop that fouling. You’re going to be giving up points. And if the if the NC wants to speed up basketball, that’s what they’ll do. DJ and PK #NFL. Like my job here isn’t to prove people wrong. Like I prove myself right. That’s that’s that’s and I and I fully have self-belief what those people say. That’s that’s just their opinion. So I don’t truly care. They they they don’t really live in my mental space about that type of stuff. Really doesn’t do anything for me. There’s Shadur Sanders on his mindset with the Browns. He really does seem to try and stay above the fray when it comes to some of this stuff and he is fully aware that there are people who really, really, really want him to succeed and people who really, really, really do not want him to succeed. But stay above the Frey because the Frey will continue. Uh Jacksonville rookie Travis Hunter is learning the team’s offensive and defensive playbooks, but he only took reps at wide receiver at their rookie camp this pack past weekend. He’s taking defensive reps next week as the team gets into their offseason conditioning program and is more OTAA workouts. I just believe it’s going to come down to place one side of the ball 100% of the time and the other side 20 or 25% of the time. And they also said that the offensive playbook is more comprehensive and has more in it than the defensive playbook. So get them started on that. The Saints quarterback Derek Carr announced his retirement. They got nobody, nobody, and nobody, the law firm of Nobody, nobody, and nobody at quarterback. Maybe one of these guys, maybe one of these guys, Tyler Shock. Maybe one of these guys will take off, but it looks like the Saints are gonna have a bad season in a bad division. And next year supposed to have a lot of good quarterback prospects by and if they can find a way and tank can get the number one pick and get Arch Manning because who played high school grandpa, you know whose grandpa played for the Saints, who played high school football where, you know who played his high school football there, and you know who is hyped up beyond belief, DJ and PK. # college # Major League Baseball. The one Diaz crushes it deep to left field and you can kiss it goodbye. A threerun shot off the community leader side. Astros up three to nothing on Yer’s fourth of the year. Here’s a two- two swung on. Well, hit to right. It’s deep going back to the track to the wall. Gone. It’s in the pool. Splash down as Freddy Freeman hits a mother of a home run on Mother’s Day. Oh, brisky to the plate. There goes Carter. The pitch is belted deep left center field. That one is way back and that ball is history. It’s a Mother’s Day present for Mary. A two-run homer for Josh Young. And it’s 5 nothing Texas. The 2-1 swung on, hit deep center field. Martinez back at the wall. Out of room. It’s gone. And Schwarber has gone deep again. Highlights from around Major League Baseball. Kyle Schwarber tied for the Major League best 14 home runs. He hit two dingers as Phillies win. The Phillies beat the Guardians three zip. You also heard Freddy Freeman in there. He went deep. Four for four. Three ribbies, two runs scored. He hits the home run. Dodgers smash out 18 hits and beat the Diamondbacks 8 to1. This is the Dodger team everyone’s afraid of. But the Diamondbacks, they’re a good team. They may not be a great team, but they’re a good team. The Dodgers just handling them. And I mean, any every team gets handled at some point. It’s Major League Baseball, but the Dodgers just do this so often. I mean, they they’ve had injuries. They’ve got pitchers out. They’ve got they’re 27 and 14. They’re winning twothirds of their games. We’re a quarter of the way through the season. And the Dodgers are exactly who they’re supposed to be. Now, of course, they also have to beat this team in October in a playoff series when, you know, you a bad week and you’re done. A bad few days and you’re done. A day after the Rockies suffered a franchise record 21 to nothing shutout loss to the San Diego Padres’s, the Rockies fired manager Bud Black and bench coach Mike Redmond. Third base coach Warren Schaefer will serve as interim manager for the rest of the season for the Major League B uh baseball worst Rockies, who are seven and 33 overall. Somebody should hire Bud Black. He’s a good manager. He was in San Diego. They didn’t win anything. I thought he had no talent there. I thought he got the most he could out of the C++ talent that he worked with in the best seasons and he had some Dminus teams while he was there. And I think the same thing in Colorado. I’ I’d look at hire him. I think I think he’s a good manager. The Rockies, I mean, if they want to blame him, they’re seven and 33 and they lost 21 to nothing. I mean, okay, but this is on you. Well, did you see Dave Roberts comments on this? Dave Roberts the manager union quickly encircled their fallen comrade. Dave Roberts who was who obviously is a mentee of Bud Blacks said that that’s not a reflection on him. It’s reflection of that franchise. It clearly is. And it’s like for anybody who and I think everybody who follows the Jazz even a little bit understands what the Jazz are doing and why they extended their coach as they should have. I just think with our coaches here, I don’t doesn’t matter whether it’s Jazz or the Mammoth or RSL, the coaches are fine. The issues are getting good enough players. The coaches, they all seem to know their stuff, right? And maybe a little bit with the Jazz, you can say, “Okay, well, let’s wait till they get good.” And okay, I I get that. But it’s just it’s always fire the manager. It’s the easiest thing. It’s a huge waste of time. It’s honestly I think it’s a sign of a weakness in in in a in a team, a franchise, a club when they when they do something like that. It’s so rarely needs to be done and it’s so often done because of personalities, not because of Yeah. Especially at the point where these staffs are now like, and PK’s right about this, we’ll overstate how good our coaches are, right? Our co he’s really smart. Yeah. Because there aren’t that many of the jobs and that’s what you have to be to get there. and you got a staff of 10 or 20 smart people providing other smart ideas. That’s not the issue. The issue is how do you get better players and the coaches are smart and if they’re not smart, they got a line of 10 smart people behind them if they miss something. So it’s it’s rarely I believe about the coaching these days, but that’s not anything in Colorado. So there they go. Bees lose to Sugarland 10 to four. They’ve lost five in a row. Bees had that they season they seem to split every series and now two of the last three series have been a little lopsided and they’ve been on the wrong end of it. So they dropped five in a row. They’re off today. Next week they or the rest of this week they’ll be uh headed in Sacramento. They’ll be in Sacramento playing the Rivercats DJ and PK # RSL cleared awkwardly to Luna. Luna looking for space. Turns, shoots, and he scores. Diego Luna bends one just inside the post. He’s a magician. RSL takes the lead. 24th minute. Combination play on the right side. Anderson Julio back in the ball running around Katranis to the end line. Cutting it back inside the box. A shot and a goal. And Anderson Julio has dribbled through half of his former team and scored. And Dallas has tied it in the 53rd minute. And that’s where it ends. 1-1. RSL really good in the first half. Luna brilliant goal. My gosh, he’s got seven goals. And some of them, sometimes you’re in a crowd, you just toe poke the ball in the back of the net and guess what? They all count one and and who cares, right? And then other goals are works of art. That was a masterpiece. He had three defenders. Block shot fell to him. Three defenders. He They make him go to his left foot, which is, you know, he’s right footed guy. and he makes it around the keeper, kiss the post, ricochet across the front of goal, and hit the net on the other side. Unreal goal. Really, really good. Really, really special. But they weren’t ready. This is where your young team Dallas was going to bring it in the first 15 minutes of the second half. They had to. They were at home. They were in trouble. And they did. And Rel didn’t match their energy. And William Mata didn’t finish a run when he could have scored a second goal. Man, everyone dumps on Diego. And I get it. Diego Gonzalez doesn’t have enough goals and he doesn’t have enough assists. He’s getting paid a lot of money. But he should have had an assist all the way to the end line. Great cut back ball. Played it to the right place. Didn’t underh hit it. Didn’t overh hit it. Hit it with exactly the right pace and weight. Perfect. Teeded that thing up and it got to stopped his run. And he also took two yellow cards. So I know he’s a new guy and he’s not, you know, maybe all completely in tune with the team, but that needs to happen quickly. And you know, when things go wrong like that, you got two ways to go. One, you go in the dumper, or two, you use it to drown yourself and come up with a better performance. And I’ I’ve seen enough of him to know he’s capable of better than that. But he did not deliver better than that. I did think they were gutsy in the last 30 minutes. They could have given up a second goal and lost the game. At least they got a point on the road. They host Portland. Now, they won’t have a got it because of the red card. And Justin Glad got a yellow card. So, he’s yellow card accumulation. Once you get get five of them and now if he gets three more, he’s going to get another suspension. So, they’re going to be missing some guys. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens here cuz he’s got multiple guys still out with injury. Uh Utah Royals shut out by Angel City 2n. It’s say the same thing every Monday. They are punchless. They not only don’t score goals, they create very few opportunities. Until they get that figured out, they are going to continue to settle down in the bottom quarter of the league and possibly all the way at the bottom. DJ and PK. Mhm. #golf. That was tight down the stretch, but Seb Straa ends up winning by two shots over Shane Lowry and Justin Thomas. Tony Ei now ties for 15th at 8 under. Seraka multiple winner. He and Rory. Rory’s won three times. Se’s won two. Shows you how competitive things are out on the PGA Tour. And now they go to the PGA Championship this week. And Ryan Fox will go with him because he chipped in and won a three-way playoff at the Myrtle Beach Classic. I don’t know what he had planned for Thursday and Friday, but he’s got new plans for Thursday and Friday. Probably had to text somebody and say, “We’re not doing lunch. I’m going to the PGA Championship.” Clutch finish for him. Unusual to have two PGA tournaments in two different places at the same time on the same week. But there’s money to be made and places want to host PGA Tour events and guys want to make money. So when they do these limited field events and the big dudes are making a lot of money, the other guys can go play somewhere and make some money. Apparently it’s about the money. DJ and PK # NHL. Bennett walks in front, makes a move and he scores. Sam Bennett gives the Panthers a two nothing lead with 750 to play here in the third. Playoff Sam doubles the Panthers lead. Rantin. He shoots. He scores. Mo Rantin. The legend grows and so does the lead for Dallas. Let this be a lesson to us all when the Mammoth are in the playoffs. The NHL postseason, man. The Stanley Cup playoffs. They’re just different. Winnipeg was flying literally from the start of the regular season and they ended up with the best record, the highest point total. And now in the playoffs, they are getting pushed to the limit. Seven games in the first round and the seventh game went double overtime. And now they have trailed Dallas. They lost game one. They tied up in game two. They lose game three. They’re trailing again. And Mico Rantin, this is a lot like baseball, man. You get on a heater in the postseason, everything goes your way. I mean, obviously he’s a really good player, but this is even for a really good player, this is unreal. Couple of hat-ticks, now a goal and two assists in this one. He is on fire. Panthers beat the Maple Leafs two zip. That series tied 2-2. Capitals and Hurricanes tonight. Hurricanes. That was hard to say, Yak. Why? But not the Hurricanes. Yeah, because I’ve lived here over 30 years now, and that’s just how I say it. Golden Knights and Oilers game four 7:30 both on TNT. I distinctly remember the first time I said I referred to Hurricane High on the air and I said hurricane. You said hurricane. I went to break and you got absolutely roasted. And no, it’s pre-ocial media so I couldn’t get roasted. Thank goodness. I would have gotten roasted. And in the break Michelle King apologized to me. I should have told you. I should have known that was coming. Those were in the days when you still read scores. Now they’re just on a ticker. Go for Should have told you it’s hurricane. telling you now. Remember this. It’s hurricane. Like, why? And she shrugs, cuz it is. I don’t know. We’re just rarely ever going to have this come up. But let’s say we have like a Tulsa BYU game from way back in the day. You going to call him the Golden Hurricane. Uh, not if I’m smart enough to stick to Tulsa. Okay. Just say Tulsa. I had to ask the question. But now that the 16 team whack is in the rearview mirror and Oklahoma’s not going to get three teams across the line into power league. Utah’s playing Miami in a couple of years. Is it the Miami Hurricanes? It shouldn’t be, but it might be. Okay, fair enough. I mean, I want to tell you I’m not going to do that, but you got like 47 drops in there that say, you know, I might do that. All right, sounds good. All right, coming up next, if you just joined us in the middle of this segment, the news breaking about uh 40 minutes ago, the door is open for the Bucks to trade Giannis. What does it mean for the offseason? I think it hangs a lot on the draft lottery tonight. That will certainly tip the odds one way or another. Well, it could. It may not. Uh, and we’ll talk about Giannis and what it might mean for the Jazz next. Stay with us. Ladies and gentlemen, may I present This is JJ and Alex. Utah had a 3.1% chance to win the lottery. And for people that don’t understand how it works, there are two drawings. When they had the second drawing, it just seemed like, oh, there’s no way that Utah’s going to win that. Now, the second drawing moves all the way up to number two. That’s for the second pick. And then everything else falls in place after that. But Utah won the second drawing. There’s a rule in the lottery that says you can only move up 10 spots. So that’s why they’re not second. They are fourth. But that is incredible. They moved up 10 spots. This is a game changer for them. A team with already that much talent. Being able to add a top four pick in this draft. Are you kidding me? Yeah. I mean, a lot I’m telling you, a lot of the GMs around the league are thinking this isn’t fair. That team, this brand new team has so much young talent and now they’re going to get another great one. It’s really not fair. Catch JJ and Alex afternoons from 3 to 6, presented by G2G bars on 975, the KSL Sports Zone. Will the Utah Jazz end up with the number one overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft? Join the zone from 3 to 6 today for the NBA draft lottery watch party at JCWs in Haramman, 5251 Anthem Park Boulevard. Well, the news broke about 45 minutes ago, maybe 50 minutes ago. Shams on ESPN.com with a story and as a tweet out the tweet, two-time NBA valuable player, Janniskumbo has not made any firm decisions, comma, but for the first time in his career, he is open-minded about whether his best fit is remaining in Milwaukee or playing elsewhere, league sources told ESPN. Now, if you speak NBA, what this means is I want out. The Bucks want me out. You 29 GMs are on notice. If you didn’t already know, which I think most of them did already know. Actually, I would bet that all of them already knew, but it finally goes public and it’s the morning of the draft lottery. There was no point in making this a story earlier because obviously the Bucks need to rebuild. It has run its course. First with a Chris Middleton injury, now with a Damen Lillard injury that’s going to sil next year. The Bucks have no path forward to building a championship contender. They are a first or second round team at best for the rest of Giannis’ prime there. There just doesn’t look like there’s any way forward. No one can see a path. They went all in on the Lillard move. They’re out of assets with an aging team. The Bucks want to rebuild. Giannis wants to win championships. It is time. It’s not personal. It’s strictly business. It’s straight out of the Godfather. He loves Milwaukee. He loves the people. Fans, don’t get your don’t get your feelings hurt. It’s okay to be disappointed. This does change things. It does. It’s disappointing. It’s the end of an era. It’s over. And so, you can feel a certain amount of sadness for that. But what’s that what’s that saying? Don’t don’t uh don’t cry because it’s over. Cry because it happened or something, right? Isn’t that like something you like you see on the wall at the therapist office? Cry because it happened. Yeah. No. No. Don’t cry because it’s over. Cry because it happened. That’s the thing. I’m pretty sure it’s a refrigerator magnet. You see it? Whatever. Good times, man. They won a championship. There’s no way forward. Now, who has a good enough team that Giannis wants to go there? And I think Giannis has some control here because at 30 years old, he is going to be in his prime for three more years, maybe four or five. All right. Often attributed to Dr. Seuss. Oh, is it Dr. Seuss? The directed quote, direct quote is, uh, don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened. Oh, all right. Fine. There it is. Okay. So, now moving forward, because we were not talking to Bucks fans here, that’s the message for Bucks fans. For the rest of the league, how long do you think his window is? I’m sure it’s two years. I think it’s probably three or four. It might be five. If he’s Steph Curry at 37 or LeBron at 40, how good is he then? You can’t worry about that. Now he has signed for three years. How many assets do you want to give up to get him? Because there’s two ways this goes. One, Giannis says, “I will sign with you.” Two, he won’t. Now, the Bucks, that’s the amount of leverage he’s got. The Bucks want the most back. Who’s got the most? Oklahoma City. There it is. Let’s just say it. They’ve got the most. But do they want them? They may be out to win a championship and think, “Why would we break it up and make ourselves older? We’re sitting on a dynasty. We don’t need anybody in their 30s. We’re winning with guys in their early 20s.” So maybe Oklahoma City sits this out. I don’t know what their mindset is. Maybe they come up short here. Maybe they lose to Denver here in the second round, right? So there is time for a lot of info to play out. I think Houston, I think San Antonio is going to be mentioned in all of this. And that those are the young teams that could be good pretty quickly. How many assets do they give up? Now the older teams are like their championship window is now. I don’t think they have as many assets. You know, who are the Lakers going to trade? And people are going to talk about the Warriors. Are the Bucks going to get enough back? Can Giannis scare everybody else away saying I’m not going to sign with you? And where do the Jazz fit in this? I think the Jazz are in worse shape than Houston and Oklahoma City and Denver. I think they’re in better shape than Phoenix, LA, and Golden State. The Warriors are intriguing because Giannis might really want to go there. I just don’t know that without getting a third team involved, the Bucks get enough back. But maybe they get a third team involved. So, Golden State’s a gray area. I can’t figure that one out to try to handicap this. And and of course, it’s 2025. So, if you want to handicap it, there are odds available. You just search Giannis trade odds and they pop up and there are places where the Warriors and the Rockets are are neck and neck as the favorites and and Oklahoma City doesn’t even appear which stuns me because of all the assets they have. And man, if they come up small down the stretch here and lose the series in six games, I could see them being motivated. I could I could also see them winning the title and thinking we’re not breaking this up. And the other thing in addition to how you perform for here, because most of the teams that I think are going to trade form are pretty much done performing. I mean, the Warriors are clearly in serious trouble. The problem with the Jazz is they’re too far away now. Can they create a trade package that for Giannis that doesn’t include marketing, that doesn’t include Kesler, that does not include Cooper Flag if they get him and then the championship window could be open and you could have an elite team. You’d have a tremendous amount of size and athletic ability, right? Would Milwaukee take that deal? Would Giannis want to sign an extension here? Because I think there are some teams that don’t care if Janna signs an extension and quite frankly might not want him to because they’re so at the end of their rope. But the Jazz, they want to they this is what they’ve said multiple times. So I think they’re serious about it. Listen to what people say multiple times. We want to open a championship window. We want to keep it open for a while. If the Jazz trade for Giannis, yeah, they might open a championship window, but I don’t know they’re going to have the assets left to keep it open for a while. So, I’m not going to put the Jazz in the top tier of trades here. I just don’t see it. Houston, Oklahoma City, San Antonio. Uh, some people have said the Nets, not sure what the Nets have to offer. But you got to some of these teams like the Warriors, you got to think, okay, can you make a three team deal happen? And somehow it makes sense. The Nets are one of those teams with the Michael Bridges traded, they actually have assets. They do. But to your point, does he want to go to Brooklyn? Does he want Does he think they’re close enough to winning? Sure. And that’s that’s what he’s looking for. There’s an argument. I keep listing Western teams. There’s an argument for him staying in the East that the path to the championship is closer there. You know that depending on how harsh you want to be, the West has either seven of the top nine teams in the NBA or seven of the top 10 or 11. Get it gets to be a judgment call there at the end. And that’s that’s dismissing Memphis as an elite team. And then the other seven are pretty clear in the West. So, I get if he wants to stay in the East and I’m sitting here listing teams in the West, if he’s going to the East, the Nets. I mean, the Heat want to rebuild, but do they have enough assets? Does he want to go there? Are they close enough? Now, never rule out some kind of Danny A type rebuilding on the fly like he did in Boston. Boston was sitting there and you’re thinking, uh, Boston, what do they have? You know, I mean, they got a they got one pretty good player. They got a draft pick they thought was going to be higher. And somehow they get the number five pick instead of number one, and it sounds like a disappointment. And they flip it on his ear. They bring in two really good players, and bingo, instant championship contender. All right, there’s the fresh news, Giannis. And we’ll know more tonight because then we’ll know who’s drafted number one and getting Cooper Flag. We’ll know who’s drafting number two and who could put Harper in a deal. And I I don’t feel like it’s the automatic lock that Flag is, but I am at like 99.9% it’s going to be Harper number two. And then at 3, four, and five, well, what else have you got in the What else can you put in the package at that point? But Giannis first big name on the move. And then we’ll see whatever Phoenix is going to do. I’ve already heard Dallas mentioned, too. Does Dallas have enough to get him? I mean, with Irving and his health situation and AD and his health, if I were Giannis, I might might not be interested in that. I’d steer clear, right? And Giannis has some say here as far as signing his willingness to sign extension. He can exert some leverage. There are some teams I think won’t care so much about that. All right, DJ PK, it’s 975 the zone. Uh, there have been other developments in the NBA. There’ll be another one tonight. Uh, classic movie lines. Clint Eastwood. Do you feel lucky? Well, do you, punk? We’ll get to that next. Stay with us. I’m Stephie. This is Hance Olsson and Scotty G. Bill Armstrong, one of the happiest men in all of Utah right now, joining us. It’s just a beautiful sunny day in Utah and everything seems right. You know, you can see the mountains, the food tastes a little bit better, everything’s going your way. It was shocking to be honest with you, you know, because I’ve been in that chair where you’re just waiting to hear and and you go numb because you never think you’re going to win it, right? And then I saw the number come up. I’m like, I think we just won. It was incredible. And your mindset changes. You’re like, “Hey, we’re picking the top four.” Because you have to realize there’s a lot of money makers in hockey picked in the top five. And it’s hard to get in there. You got to experience a whole lot of pain to pick there. And for us, we didn’t experience that at all. You know, we played meaningful games down the stretch and we improved by 12 points and now we’re in the top four to pick. So, it it’s just an incredible moment for our organization. Bum. 9 hours and 30 minutes from now, I believe we will know who has the number one pick and where Cooper Flag is going to start his NBA career. Nine and a half hours. We’ll be on remote at JCW starting at 3:00. And by we, I mean, yeah, me, too. Uh, everyone’s going down there and uh rotating through. All hands on deck joining JJ and Alex and I will be there from 3 till 4. We’ll be at the JCWs in Heramman. Will the Jazz get the number one pick? Do you feel lucky lucky? Do your best Eastwood because everyone does a fake Clinton Eastwood. Well, do you punk? I got to push back against the narrative the Jazz deserve the number one pick. It’ll fall wherever it falls. To me, this is just a roulette game. I would never I have never played roulette. I don’t understand it. I’ve seen it in the movies. I’ve seen it in TV shows. I’ve been in Vegas to cover stuff and I’ve walked past the tables and looked at it when I was in my teens and it was illegal to play in my 20s, in my 30s, in my Okay, well, you get the idea. And I’ve never wanted to play it. I don’t get why people play it. I don’t get why that’s fun. This is roulette and I really don’t find it that fun. I just want to know who who’s going to draft number one. Is it fun? And some people have a feeling. Once in a while I do get feelings about things, but not about things like this. This is roulette. I don’t get a feeling about that. Now maybe you do. And some of you are positive the Jazz are going to draft first. And some of you think there is no chance the Jazz are going to draft first. Andrew, Jazz are going to pick second or third at best. I can’t really argue with you. I mean, they got a 48% chance of drafting fifth. It’s basically a coin flip. It’s a little better than a coin flip. They’ll be in the top four after that. Who knows? I had no idea that the Utah hockey club was going to move up. to be honest, they came so close to making the playoffs and I had a general idea how the odds were structured. So, I just assumed they were just going to draft where they were cuz down there the odds of teams moving aren’t good regardless of NBA, NHL, whatever. And yet, look at them. They moved up 10 spots. 49er Coug, I want to believe. I just can’t. I get that. 49er Coug, I totally get that. You’re a fan. You don’t think good things are going to happen. and you cushion yourself against disappointment. That’s an old story. You’re very normal 49er Coug. There’s a lot of that going around. I just push back and say, why not believe? Somebody’s got to get there. And nobody’s got a better chance than the Jazz. I mean, they carved it up. The top three teams all have a 14% chance. And I know a lot of you going conspiracy theory. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. When you’re getting paid 76 billion, you’ve got to do what Dave Rose says. And Dave Rose came on our show years ago. I’m going to say it was about 2009 because I know the studio we were in. And he said at the end of the interview, you got a nice little thing going on here. Don’t mess it up. Like that was a rock solid advice. argue that. Do we have a nice day? Ask yourself question. Do I feel lucky? Well, do you, punk? Well, do you, punk? Yeah, I got the inflection wrong at the end. So, Rose says, “Don’t mess it up. We He’s right. We do have a good thing going here. No reason to mess it up. This is a good gig. For a hundred reasons, we could spend the rest of the morning listening listening. This is a good gig. Don’t mess it up. NBA, you got $76 billion in TV money guaranteed over the next 11 years and the next contract you get more billions. Don’t mess it up. The only way for them to mess it up is by doing something colossally stupid like fixing a draft. It makes no sense. Stop screaming conspiracy. And the same with the playoffs. makes no sense. If there’s some smoking gun that comes out and they did this, it’s moronic at the highest level of stupidity. They got a great thing going. Don’t mess it up. Refs will miss calls and people will scream. Individual refs might have a gambling problem. We’ve seen that. That’s an old story. But at no point should the league be out there orchestrating. The most they should ever do, which actually a former NBA assistant coach told me is what they do. It’s like you want a series to go longer, it’s two zip. You want to make sure it doesn’t get to three zip. You know exactly which referees have beefs with which star players or which head coaches. You just assign that referee. Nobody’s told anything. Nobody has to be told anything because referee X knows they hate player Y. And Tim Duncan might get a technical foul because he’s smirking on the bench, not saying a word. And that happened. Go look it up. Joey Crawford, right? Yuck. There’s How dare you smirk at me? Yeah. And he gave it to T. That’s all you got to do. The rest of it, people miss calls. Vetta, Joey Crawford, Tim Donnie, they get influenced by the crowd. Yeah. Tim Donnie did what he did. It’s like and there’s only going to be more of that going forward. I mean, we’re seeing occasional college players. Well, no. Every pro sport we had this past weekend. Yep. Lance McCollers Jr. from the Houston Astros and his family getting threatened with murdering his kids. brutal now. Brutal. Brutal. And we’ll have gambling stuff because it’s on everybody’s phone. It’s on everybody’s laptop. It’s on your desktop at work. It’s everywhere. So, I don’t know. To me, I’ll tune in. I’m intrigued. It’s uh it’s roulette here tonight. And we’ll see if the Jazz get lucky. I got to push back against, you know, they deserve it. They’ve never had the number one. Well, they’ve never had the number one because most of the time they’ve been really good and they haven’t been in the conversation. Pop quiz time. have a number come into your head. How many times have the Jazz in the lottery era, which is the last 40 years, which it takes you back to 1985. In the lottery era, how many times have the Jazz failed to win 30 games as a minimum win at least 30. Pick a number. Three. Bang. Yock. Winner. Give yourself a prize. No, you can’t do that. You get in trouble. You got a nice little thing going in there, Yach. Don’t mess me up by giving yourself a prize. That was terrible advice for me. It’s a 100% is a 180 degrees wrong from Dave Rose’s brilliant advice. They’ve only been in the conversation three times and they they’ve been rebuilding every time. One year it was injuries. I they were rebuilding and Boozer got hurt and they won 26 games with Jerry and they were rebuilding at the start of the Dennis Lindse era and they had a brutal season and now this one which they created they I I I’m just sure they would have won 30 games if they’d actually played everybody all year long but it didn’t happen. So they haven’t had a lot of chances to draft number one. They’ve actually done well in relation to how the what their records look like. This will be the fifth time they draft in the top five. Now, one of those was Daryl Griffith before there was a lottery. He was number two pick. And another one was a third pick with Dominique Wilkins and they moved him immediately. They they sold him. They needed the cash to keep the team afloat and they moved him to Atlanta. He never even played a game here. So, they’re just not in this conversation very often. So, you know, it should happen here. We deserve good things to happen. We’ve had good things happen. Two NBA finals. We’ve had two All-Star games. We’ve got three Hall of Famers with Stockton Malone and Jerry Sloan. We’ve had executive and coach of the year with Frank Leaden. Two trips to the NBA Finals, six to the conference finals. I can’t even count the Olympians. We’ve had at least four who played for the United States. And then we’ve had at least three who played for other countries. some or all of whom have meddled. The only one who might not have meddled out of that group. So, they weren’t like, you know, somebody being the 10th guy on some team to finish 10th place. I mean, Kira Linko was the best player in Russia and I I know they won a European championship. I don’t know if he got an Olympic medal or not. I don’t know if he scooped up a bronze along the way, but Joe Engles meddled with Australia and Rudy Gobear meddled with France. We’ve had a lot of good players here and we had a lot of good teams. what we haven’t had is a championship team or a number one draft pick. And those often go hand in hand. Maybe tonight. Countdown’s on. Nine hours and 20 minutes. We’ll know. When we come back from break, we’ll be nine hours and 15 minutes away. And Steve Cleveland will be here to talk about this weekend’s games. Cleveland all done. Donovan 0 for four in the second round. What’s he got to do to get through to a conference final? DJ PK stay with
