3 Things with Royce Young 🤳 | OKC Thunder vs Denver Nuggets | NBA Playoffs | May 8, 2025

Thunder beat the Nuggets 149 to 106 in game two. And to end the first quarter, let’s take a look at this beautiful play OKC ran to get Isaiah Joe a three. So, here are three things. Isaiah Joe with a hit. Number one, coming out of game one, you like many people were probably wondering how this young team would respond to what happened. But we were all really thinking of that the wrong way. It wasn’t about a response. It was about a return to zero, a return to baseline. And that meant 45 points in the first quarter, tied for the most in any playoff quarter, and 87 points in the first half, the most in any half in playoff history. Because here’s the thing about getting back to zero and zero. It works both ways. We often think about it as refocusing after wins, but the score starts at zero win or lose. And OKC played with that mindset from the jump with SGA setting a tone hitting his first four shots and pushing pace and also a big nod to Jill who was the first sub off the bench checking in to add some distinct physicality to the game and then hit a trademark spot up three for some good energy in the building. hits on a three. Well, that’s what he does. Those little things can change game vibes and Jay Will is outstanding at shifting those. Number two, let’s just take a quick tour around the starting five. SGA 34 points on 11 of 13 shooting plus four rebounds and eight assists. Dub 174 and seven. Cadet 15 and 11 rebounds plus two blocks. Lou 12 points while helping hold Jamal Murray to just 14. Hart 148 and five. Balanced efficient scoring all the way from the starters punctuated by SGA who was just masterful in his floor game. And then add in some excellent second unit minutes from Aaron Wiggins and Kase Wallace particularly in the first half. And the Thunder showcased a lot of what has made them such a dynamic team all season. And number three, so like we just discussed, regardless of this outcome, which was fun, back to zero, every playoff game is its own story. And just because of one outcome, the next one can have its own theme and plot twists. The playoffs are a lot about how you handle that in between and persevere through the course of a series. It’s never going to be easy and in some ways the hardships can only serve to sharpen the blade. So now it’s on to Denver for two starting with the score zero to zero in game three on Friday.

  1. I felt like even the dunks had a little more sauce on them than usual. Was a great response. But we need to play close to or at that level night in, night out, to win it all
