Mavs win draft lottery, Should Dallas trade the pick for Giannis? | NBA | FIRST THINGS FIRST
Mavs won the lottery even though they had less than a 2% chance at the number one pick odds wise. Uh there were they were 11th and then the 11 to1 leap was the largest jump in the history of the lottery. Uh here’s some reaction from the Mavs brass. And here’s some reaction around the sports world. LeBron just a bunch of laughing emojis. He shared some of his let’s say unconventional theories. I mean conspiratorial. Well, I didn’t want to say your words not mine. Patrick Mahomes huge man. Mahomes is pumped. Super pumped. I the you’re reacting. Well, so if I may just quickly and then I’ll let Brew do the best. Yeah. So Mahomes is pumped. I talked to Patrick briefly about this yesterday. He’s all the way back. Not that he ever left the Mavs. He’s all the way back. He He super excited. And for Dallas, they got Paige now. They now they got Cooper. That’s awesome. With respect to LeBron and other people, some media, a lot of fans, a lot of players, the modern draft lottery being rigged is one of the dumbest conspiracies going in America because it is so easily disprovable. Forget the fact that you would need literally hundreds of parties involved. Yeah. to the benefit seemingly of really no one individually and to the detriment of everybody potentially. You would need independent journalists to be in on it because they watch it. You would need Ernston Young to be in on it. You would need the league. You would need the owner of the Wizards to be like, “When’s it going to be rigged for us, guys? I’ve been participating in this jam for 30 years.” They have to be okay with it being rigged for someone else. I guess but then there for this specific this is a very specific theory. This theory is the league said to the Maps, “Send the Lakers Luca and we’ll give you Cooper flag.” Forget everything else I just said about how many people would have to be involved in it and remember what you saw with your own eyes about what the Dallas Mavericks did after trading away Luca. Did they act like a team that was trying to have lottery balls? Because if they make the playoffs, they don’t get it. You can’t get them. So, what did they do? They rushed Anthony Davis back to try to make the playoffs. When he got hurt, they played Kyrie Irving more minutes than he’s ever played in a stretch in his life. Then he got hurt. Then they rushed Anthony Davis or brought him back again, made the play in, won a game, and were playing the Grizzlies tight with Anthony Davis again playing heavy minutes in a game that if they win, they don’t get the lottery balls. They they they can’t win it. So, it falls apart on its face and I feel dumber for having to say this on a real platform, but it has broken contain the way a lot of modern sports, forget everything else, sports conspiracy theories have to where I think it’s almost conventional wisdom for the fan. like, oh yeah, they rigged the lottery. Even though it is a viewed, monitored process that no one has ever explained to whom it benefits, why it benefited Zion to go to New Orleans or Cooper flag. And last point, there’s five teams that could have won it yesterday and people would have reverse engineered a conspiracy. If the Spurs win it with their small chance, it would have been they want a supercharged win. If the Sixers win it, they want East Coast basketball to be back and give Embiid a chance. There’s It’s idiocy. And I hate that people who have real platforms give it life. I totally agree. And remember this people, the teams with the worst records still only have a 14% chance of winning it. That means you got a 86% chance of losing it. All right? And they would have, believe me, the league would have sent somebody to the Knicks at some point during this 40 years since Patrick Euing if it was rigged. All right, I want to get to my reaction when I saw that they won. My first thought, do you keep Cooper Cup or Cooper flag? Do you draft him or do you trade him? And cuz I, you guys know I may be his biggest fan on this set. I really liked him in the tournament. I thought they win the championship. I’m not convinced he’s going to be a superstar. I definitely don’t think he’s going to be as good as No. What did you just try to do there? What? You just You just tried to plant your flag. Take him. No, take it. You You want him take everybody from I got I had every from New England. I got you. Okay. I’m just saying during the time you tried to sneak it in. Brew had the very Brew is right. He was one of the people that went on a limb and picked Duke to win the championship, which is really how he asserted himself as the Cooper. I don’t remember anybody else waxing eloquently about Cooper Flag skills. That’s all I’m saying on this show. Okay, that’s fine. That’s what he’s ahead. But I’m not convinced he’s going to be a superstar. I definitely don’t think he’ll ever be as good as Giannis. And Giannis is 30. So, I’m going to throw out a few things. I would I would certainly listen and if nobody’s calling me, shop the pick because I want to see what people are willing to offer me for Cooper Flag. Giannis, I would definitely do it if I’m the Mavericks if Kyrie wasn’t hurt. That’s what bo like if Kyrie were healthy, AD is presumably healthy and you got Giannis. You want to see what the trade might look like? You did it. Well, let me let me I’ll let you get to that cuz I wouldn’t. Now I’m I’m concerned because Kyrie’s hurt. I need a guard if I get Giannis. All right. So that bothers me a little. But how about this? I’m just throwing it out there. You trade Cooper flag for Giannis. And I’m just thinking out loud. Sure. And then you trade Anthony Davis for Kevin Durant. That’s not Phoenix. Phoenix doesn’t do that. No, Phoenix does do that. That would be a worse. That would be almost as bad as the first Nico Giannis. Kevin trade Anthony Davis for Kevin Durant. Why not? Cuz cuz Durant’s old. Cuz Anthony Davis is better and younger and hurt all the time. Kevin Durant and and like I think Yeah, but he’s more so than than I get it. He is 36. Yeah, he’s older. Jiannis Durant and Kyrie pretty good, right? I need a scoreer with I need a bonafide bucket with Giannis who can shoot. That’s why Chris Middle Durant is still a much better version than Chris Middleton. Oh yes, but I but I got shot blockers. Why are you not worried about Kyrie? Why are you worried about Kyrie’s injury to trade for Giannis? But not worried about Kyrie’s injury to trade for Giannis and Durant. Because if I get cuz without Kyrie with just AD and Durant and AD and Giannis, I don’t have like a great jump shooter. I don’t have a ball handler and a playmaker. With Durant, I’ve got a great shooter and a playmaker somewhat. He could bring the ball up. Could really just lean into this. Our window is this. The world could have it be now. It could be going from a 26-y old to a 36y old. What if four years from now we’re like, man, I mean, there’s a lot of guys Zion, Ben Simmons. There’s a lot of guys we thought were sure bets. No, that haven’t panned out. This is to me I the I I I personally think Anthony Davis has imi, you know, I think you might be able to trade Anthony Davis for a guy like Luca. So, I wouldn’t trade him for Kevin Durant. This is what the Spur, just so everybody knows, this is what the Mavs trade would look like to make it work cuz you can’t just trade Cooper flag cuz the salaries and I don’t think you I also think he’s going to have such a robust market. If we think the Mavs should try to parlay this into Giannis, you’d have to give up Clay, Gaffford, PJ, and Cooper flag. I included the Lakers 29 first because I think the Bucks would be able to ask for a lot but maybe take that out other brew you have to include those players. No, I get to the salary. So if you I don’t know that I need to throw an extra pick. Okay, that’s fine. So then remove that’s the that you know that’s a negotiation but the the top two lines there as far as the Bucks is that would be the offer and and if you’re the only one I hate losing is Gafford and you have Lively and you have you know in this scenario you have Lively Giannis and Anthony Davis so you don’t really need a ton of size. That’s what that trade would look like. I think that potentially works. I also think team we’re probably going to talk about in a minute also has a potential trade that could work. Just just because we talked so much about Cooper Flag not being on the Mavs if they Tim McMahon says they are going to draft Cooper Flag. Do you think this works when Kyrie is healthy? Yes. Um like can they how how I mean I like how good remember first of all he’s not going he’s Kyrie’s going to miss first half of the season at least. Cooper Flag, he’ll have the ball in his hands. When Kyrie’s not there, that’s their problem. They don’t have another playmaker. So, Cooper Flag can play that role. By the time Kyrie gets back, if Flag, I know he’ll be a rookie, but if he’s if he’s really, you know, we’ve seen rookies come into the league and be good right away. He won’t be a star right away, but if he can give him I think they would have I think next year they would have a round two ceiling. That’s fair. That’d be pretty good. that. Yeah, I think that would and then you would hope that by the way I also think Kyrie Irving somehow got even more leverage probably like now in that because they’re trying to you know now you can really sell we’re trying to compete right now. All right, we’ll quickly move to the number two pick. The Spurs had the rookie of the year in WY then had the rookie of the year in Stefon Castle and now they have the number two pick draft boards like Dylan Harper or Ace Bailey both from Ruters. But is there a chance this pick could actually be for Giannis? Yeah. So listen, I think it would be Dylan Harper is gonna I I think one and two of this draft one is definitely going to be Cooper Flag. No matter who’s making the pick, I think two overwhelming likely is going to be Dylan Harper. And do they need Harper? I don’t think so. Well, so this is what that Giannis trade would look like where and you guys have seen me make this a bunch and this is going to be a hard trade to Trump. The number two pick plus Castle plus those picks. Atlanta’s first, Chicago’s first, Boston’s first in a couple years. And the question, Brew, is this. Do you want to try to win a championship if you’re the Spurs next year or do you want to build do what Oklahoma City did, which is have these young guys all on a similar timeline and build try to cuz Castle’s won rookie of the year, Giannis won rookie of the year, you have the number two overall pick and have all these I’m sorry, Wimi and have grow these guys together. Uh I I I’m the Spurs so I want to do what we did before. We teamed Wimby with I mean Tim Duncan with David Robinson and we won a championship two and then we won several after that. So, and this is even better cuz Robinson was on the decline when they won the championship. And so now Giannis is still great. You can This is the great thing about this. You can do both. Like Giannis and Wimi could win championships now and then eventually Wimi will be ready to carry the team and Giannis will still be good. So, so you think that Spurs become the Giannis? I think they should, the Spurs should definitely try to do it. I still think Houston’s offer is is is intriguing, too, if I’m Milwaukee because I know Shingun, all those players. Barnes obviously is just salary. You pretty, you know, Castle. I know he’s good. I know Shingun is a bonafide star. Yeah, Castle might be, but I know Shingun. I like Giannis just going to Texas. Like, sorry, these are your options. You made a good point earlier. The West, man, it’s that’s what I’m saying. If Giannis goes to the West and Tatum’s out, the West have 13 of the 15 best players. The Dallas Mavericks have officially won the draft lottery, and have the rights to draft Cooper Flagg with the 1st-overall pick. However, Nick Wright, Chris Broussard, and Kevin Wildes ask if the Mavs or San Antonio Spurs should trade their respective picks for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Mavs hit the NBA with the wink wink $50 handshake
LOL clicked off as soon as they tried to say the draft isnt rigged. pls..
Down playing conspiracies is fr in Nick's dna hes good at it😂
Nick it’s very simple the two biggest markets are Golden State and the Lakers, LeBron and Steph will both be retired in 2-3 years which leaves no superstar in California which we all know the league can’t allow so the Mavericks had to sacrifice Luka and the league said we’ll give you the #1 pick so you can have Flagg or use the pick to trade for pieces around AD and Kyrie to go for a championship
These guys have no expertise they just watch the games like me and you so at least be entertaining. Its not at all entertaining to hear someone carry water for the NBA when we can clearly see something is fishy. Much rather listen to Cam and Ma$e at least they are entertaining and self aware that they aren't "experts" they just watch the games.
Brou really thought he did something with the AD-KD trade 😂😂😂😂 the pause from Nick and Wildes lol
Nick shut up….its rigged at times bro
MJ on NBC
MJ will probably be more PC and give only fair assessments. He will be fairly objective. He won’t sound like Barkley or Stephen A. That isn’t too bad as he won’t sound like a rage baiter looking for clicks. Why would he need them if he’s a billionaire?
MJ would sound more like a Tim Legler. Perhaps similar to Tom Brady, Captain Obvious. But man, I would love if he tears one up on LeBron’s shills like Shannon Sharpe and Nick Wrong. It’s been 9 years of LeFraud propaganda that deserves to get exposed by the real GOAT. Probably has some fun stories to tell. Might even go deeper with his bromance with Kobe. MJ is so far removed from talking to the media, we shall see if he can adapt back to it. He’s become elusive under the public eye like Howard Hughes in his final years.
I don’t think MJ would make a great commentator/analyst. We saw what happened to him as a GM/exec/owner. But MJ was a great interviewee when he played. I can imagine many of his sit-down interviews will be controlled by his PR crew. He will know the answers in advance. But he’s probably great at adapting if someone did throw him a curveball question. He dealt with that over 30 years ago with his father’s death and his gambling allegations.
I do wish MJ made amends with Scottie or at least Chuck. I thought Scottie overreacted to what was shown from The Last Dance. I don’t see him any less. And I was always on Barkley’s side. He’s paid to criticize. Anyhoo, it’s always great news to see MJ back. He’s become this mythical creature these last 20+ years. He’s like Santa or the Easter Bunny. Is he even real? All these stupid podcasts trying to ruin his good name. MJ needs a platform to fight back these liars. I would love it if he spoke his mind but I see him defending these kids as he’s never been the type to criticize players unless you were teammates with him.
The 90s are back next season! NBC is even using an AI-generated voice of Jim Fagan who has been dead since 2017. Weird! Maybe it’s time for NBC to bring back Ahmad Rashad and Willow Bay. Bring back Hannah Storm who is with ESPN. Bring back Bob Costas, Marv Albert, and Mike Fratello. Unfortunately, no more Snapper Jones and Bill Walton. I remember Snapper sounding like a Laker hater. 👏 RIP. The 90s was the last real and great decade. NBA viewership was never higher than in the 90s.
Cooper Flagg
What Windy said earlier in the morning makes sense. Imagine if Dallas trades Luka and Coop in the same year? Dallas riots. And you really can’t have three max players in this second apron era. By keeping the pick, it does make AD and Kyrie more expendable. But I guess Giannis is going to San Antonio! Giannis + Wemby is long and scary!
NOLA trades CP3 in 2011. Then gets the No. 1 pick in 2012 for AD. NOLA trades AD in 2019. Then gets the No. 1 pick to get Zion. Dallas trades Luka to get AD. They win the lottery this year. The most common denominator in all trades/drafts has been AD. That’s thrice. No wonder he wears No. 3.
Nick wright making sense over most of these buffoons is crazy
Sorry brou, but you can’t be the smartest in the room today with that trade proposal.
Spin doctors at work.
Nick, why are you defending Adam Silver' rigged system?
Its just too obvious and the coincidences are too good to be true 😂
Well, Nick, it's not out of the realm of possibility, that if the Mavericks didn't make the playoffs, they would be allowed to get the #1 pick.
Nick is pathetic it's clearly rigged
The NBA is so redundant. How can the Mavs be a play in team, which means a potential playoff team, and then wind up with the first pick? It makes the play in tournmanent seem like a huge joke. The NBA really wants a team that is in the lottery to also potentially make the playoffs in the same season? Tf is that?
The lottery should be the 5 worst teams, not 14 ffs.
These guys have a deep insecurity or inferiority complex. For some reason they believe anyone with authority has their best interest and that they would never rig or manipulate outcomes, whether it be politics or sports. The NBA, worth hundreds of billions, would never manipulate outcomes for the bottom line, and its investors and partners. Because business is always for “the people”. It’s almost like these 2 try their hardest to fit into or align with that “authority “. Absolutely no backbone or individualism lmao
Nick Wright is supposed to be a poker player and a stats guy but the stats show that somehow teams with a less than 2% chance actually have an 8% chance of being the number one pick. Like wtf is that!
11:42 Just 2 years ago, all 3 Texas teams missed the play-ins, now we're talking about a Texas domination.
Nick talking like a paid mouthpiece again 😅 only injuries are accidental in prof. Sports. Huge money can make sports miracle, industry insiders knows this but the public cannot thats why you have paid media like Nick on tv to tell the public everything is fine, nothing is wrong 😅 the NBA is sliding in the ratings this season, Lakers is the global brand, LBJ is old, bam Mavs trade Luka 😂 Mavs fans mad but now they get Cooper, NBA wins with Luka at Lakers, Mavs win with Cooper, its like WWE production 😅
The argument that it was rigged from the trade is ludicrous but can’t the lottery itself just be rigged? Lol
Adam Silver “let’s make this white, I mean right”
Nick is crazy, Spurs aren’t giving All that!!
If it's not rigged, then the question I have is, so why not just draw the actual lottery balls LIVE in front of all of us , seems like a SIMPLE, RATIONAL thing to do !
For Dallas to get Giannis they have to trade AD. Neither one wants to play center. You’ll have to play them together at forward. I don’t know if that would work.
If Giannis goes to Houston or San Antonio then Jokic could go to the Knicks. KD goes to the team the Giannis doesn’t go to.
Smaller dominos: Orlando could get Beal. Zion could be in Miami. Derozan or Ingram could be in Detroit.
This brou take on flagg has freezing cold take written all over it
To many teams are in lottery. You risk a small team being to bad to get a top pick or a free agent. Its to extreme just to combat tanking.
No way spurs are giving up castle and the #2 pick. If the spurs offer that trade the bucks would say yes instantly. I think it’s more likely they let the bucks pick between castle and the #2 pick.
Nick is trying to become a mvp voter, he won’t become one if he starts saying the NBA is rigged
They’d have to be ok with being involved in a money scheme you mean lol…that would be crazyyy 💀🤣yea ok…the whole league eats regardless
I usually agree with Nick on a lot of points, but on this one in terms of it being rigged, come on man
The NBA LOTTERY IS RIGGED. You cannot convinve me otherwise. Also, thank you for injuring Tatum.
Wildes lookin at Nick like he crazy. Rigged, twigged, fibbed, Mavs in 5 -Coop Flagg F YEAH
Nick makes his argument very poorly, largely based on misunderstanding how much the audience knows. He should be explaining how exactly the lottery gets decided. I thought it likely it was rigged because I thought it was just “the NBA says they ran a random number generator”, which would be very easy to rig. He implies it is more complicated without actually describing the process. If it is true that it is run in front of many people, in a way that 1 guy could not have predicted-programmed it, I will accept it was not rigged.
Things that make you go Hmmmm…
SPURS PLEASE TRADE FOX.
DO NOT PAY HIM 55MILLION WHEN THAT IS CURRENTLY GIANNIS SALARY
Flagg is this Generations Keith Van Horn will he be a 🌟 is the big ? I like his game hopefully he lives up to the hype going # 1 is alot of Pressure.
Rigged rigged rigged
The reason why I think it’s rigged it’s because it’s very easy to prove is not if you stream live but they actively don’t do it!
GEE……Nick Wright, a guy who LOVES THE LAKERS and LOVES LUKA thinks this is a stupid topic and would rather not address it? What a shock!! GEE, Chris Broussard, a guy who was GIVEN A JOB by Nick Wright when Cris Carter was fired some years back AGREES WITH HIS EMPLOYER? What a shock, indeed!
Well, that's enough for me…….Enjoy Cooper Flagg, Dallas Mavericks. Nothing to see here. LOLOLOL!!!!
I’m a Dallas fan and the Luka giveaway and no this is SUPER shady. They really think we are dumb. Smh
Anthony Davis is not "better" than Kevin Durant.
Just do the draw live on TV and boom most conspiracy talk is gone. NHL did it and pretty sure the NBA even used to do it
People are not smart these days I see, you do understand it’s illegal for the nba to rig its own draft lottery right? Lmao 😂😂😂😂 man yall really need to educate yourself
