NBA LIVE! Golden State Warriors vs Minnesota Timberwolves | May 14, 2025 | Game 5 NBA Playoffs Live
[Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] This matchup features two teams that want to slow things down and run their offense in the half court. Yeah, both sides are methodical. They they want to get into their sets and create quality looks and also have floor balance. I I be surprised if we see a ton of fast break opportunities tonight. And now the Golden State Warriors starters in the back court. We’ll see Curry and Pensky. Moses Moody is out there with Jimmy Butler. And it’s Green in at the center filling out the middle. What a nice touch on the floater. Butler has perfected that shot. Has it down to a science. Right side. Edward shoots over PMski. Edward shot is good. Just reliable guys. He’s just always trying to make the right play. Outside Curry. There’s the screen. Front pass the arc and rebounded by [Applause] McDaniels. Randle against Button. Another shot. Handle. No good. You know, sometimes making it difficult for him to finish at the rim is all you can ask for from the defense. There’s always a surprise, isn’t there, Clark in the offseason. Let’s go back to 2022. That off season, but Timberwolves going all in on Rudy Gobear. Basically, Kevin, they traded five first plus a bunch of good players for Goar. It was derided at the time and I can understand why. But Rudy’s defense has taken them to another level and he’s actually been a little better offensively than people thought he would be. Continuing to work on refining his craft. Butler puts in a great amount of time, maybe more than most. [Applause] And so Butler nails both of them. Little over a minute gone here in the first quarter. Now let’s find out what head coach Chris Finch had to say to David Aldridge. David, we talked about the daunting task of facing Steph Curry. Coach said Curry makes your entire five guard him. Steph might be the best condition player in the league. He is constantly moving that makes him so difficult to track. So, of course, it’s not just Curry shooting that presents problems, guys. Thank you, David. And a deep free from Curry. Warriors the rebound. And it’s Jaden McDaniels with the foul. That’s his first foul. Back to Moody. Five on the clock. Green in the high post. Three-pointer. Butler trains the three-pointer. Butler’s got seven points in the game. Butler very aware of the situation there. No time to spare at all. saves him from the shot clock violation. Pass to McDaniels down low. Here’s Edwards and the call on the shot that sends him to the line. Anthony Edwards is a classic two guard. Clark, a spectacular player. What has impressed you most about his development? Well, he’s got a great body. He had it when he got into the league after just one year of college. Tremendous basketball body, strength and length and bounce. Now he’s worked on refining his skill. I think the biggest thing that’s impressed me is not only his work ethic, but his but his poise. He’s not a guy that plays frantically. He plays with intentionality and purpose. And that’s a tough thing to do when you’ve got his athletic ability and you’re as young as he is. and Edwards drops him both. Free throw shooting is about mechanics, confidence, and your mental approach. He’s locked in from there most every night. Pass to Moody. Go pulls it in. Timberwolves have gone two for four from the field so far today. And Daniels kicks to Goar. Go with a screen for McDaniel. Back to Goar. Plays it up and picks it in. What a move by Goar closing that open space in the pick and roll. And so Steve Kerr calls for the timeout and coach has decided they need a moment to talk things [Applause] over. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat up Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Miss [Applause] Curry deciding where to go with it. Green with a screen on C. Curry way outside and again no good by Golden State. And the great shooters know when they’ve got enough opening to go for the three. I didn’t think it was a bad choice on that possession. Oh, here is Edwards. It’s Edwards with the stop. Boy, how about the strength of Edwards, confident in taking on defenders and finishing. Pass to Penski. Curry. A screen on Edwards. Butler on the way. And we’re just over three and a half minutes into the first quarter. That’s a rare miss for him inside. He may have just rushed it a bit, maybe lost concentration, too. That’s good from Edwards on the assist from Randall. Edwards got eight points. Edwards flexing on him now. Bully ball inside. Randall against Butler over Randall. Will it go? And there’s the nice layup by Butler. He’s got nine. He’s one of the best in the league at that. Even with just a tiny sliver, he always seems to find a way to get it up and in. Back to Edwards. Outside Connley pass to McDaniels. Six on the shot [Applause] clock. Outside Edward offline from the top of the key. That’s one he knows he should have drained to the inside. He gets stolen by Randall. And now Minnesota on the fast break. Missile blows. Basket is good. So a chance here for a three-point play. Well, McDaniels wasn’t going to be denied there. Getting the bucket and has a chance for one more. And a chance to catch up on some numbers here. The scoring breakdown for the Timberwolves. Well, I’ve like their assertiveness inside. They’ve been getting that way and playing that way the whole time. setting the tone right away that the inside area is their territory. And something else that’s working for them is ball movement. A lot of their points so far have come as a result of smart plays. Guys like McDaniels who can guard just about any position on the floor. Extremely valuable these days. Curry with the bounce pants. Here’s Green. A rebound by the Timberwolves. Now McDaniels pass to Connley. Wants to give it to Randall and [Applause] does. Kept alive and a good offensive board and he gets the five. Randle’s got an unorthodox game, but he’s got a good strong upper body which makes him a very consistent scorer inside. And so Steve Kerr calls for the timeout. He wants a minute here to get things straightened out with this team. [Applause] Heat up [Applause] here. Heat up here. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Warriors trail by eight. Get back. Green with a screen on Conley. Curry on the wing. Covered by Connley and the Warriors miss again. Boy, he’s got to be disappointed in the result there. I mean, the defender really didn’t make any impact at all. Outside Edwards has to Randall over Kurt. Randle no good. Well, he’s much better than that. Really no excuse for missing that lane. Outside. Butler fires for three. Trains it from beyond the arc. Butler’s got a couple of threes now in the first of the Warriors. You know, Butler is simply a winner. He knows exactly how to get himself going offensively. Go Bear with a screen for Connley. The three rebound by Butler. Warriors trail by five. [Music] Right side. Curry outside. Butler. Green with a screen on Randall to the paint. And Green slams it in. And Butler’s so proficient at running the pick and roll. Excellent at taking what the defense gives him and gets those passes around defenders quite sweetly. Now here is Connley. Hasn’t made one yet. Outside Edwards score the basket. His fourth. He’s only missed one of his five shots tonight. I mean the number of points they’ve scored in the paint already here is eyeoping. outside curry. Pass the button and he makes the bucket. Gets the whistle and now a three-point play chance here for him. Man, what strength from Butler refuses to be tied down or held down. Excellent concentration on the and one. Alexander Walker, he’s checked in for the Timberwolves. And the Warriors also making a change. Heels checked in for Stephen Curry. [Applause] Here’s Connley. Randle outside. Has to go bear Conley with it. That one’s in. His first bucket of the game. He’s one for two. How about that move? Connley adjusting around the contact to get the finish. Clark, if you had one word to describe Mike Connley, what would it be? Reliable, steadfast, dependable. And I know that’s three, but I wanted to give you three different words I can use to describe him. Only two seasons in his whole career has he not played at least 50 games. That speaks to durability and professionalism. Here’s PMski following the basket by Julius Randall. Here’s Butler right on the bucket. Butler’s got 17. Boy, he’s playing out of his head. Nailing everything. The defense is scrambling to try to stop him right now. And so far, no goal. Now here is Connley. Here’s McDaniels. The rebound by Heel. Pass to Moody inside. Rain finds Pajki. It’s deflected right here. Butler against Randall. Randall with some nice deep. Timberwolves leading by four. It’s time now to hear from our Hall of Fame reporter, David Aldridge. What’s the latest, David? Kevin. Rudy Goar has tied for the most defensive player of the year awards all time, but he’s challenging himself to do more offensively. He said, “It’s all about just being okay with missing or making mistakes, freeing my mind, and doing the things that I work on to get out of this shell that I was being put in.” Kevin, back to you. All right, David Aldridge, we thank you for that report. Randall passes to Connley. Pass to McDaniels. There’s the triple. That’s in there. Connley with the assist. McDaniels got his second best. If you want the title of three and D player, you’ve got to make three. McDaniels has really worked on that shot. Mother with the ball. [Applause] Five to shoot. Can’t connect from 13 ft out. Timberwolves leading by [Applause] nine with it. Now Green defending pass to McDaniels. Shoots the three. No good that time. Golden State’s gone two of five from three-point land here in the first quarter. Shots good from Butler. Easy to see why Butler gets so much respect for his competitiveness. I mean, he thrives at finishing through contact. Randle outside. Contact on the shot. And now a three-point play chance as he’ll head to the line. Yeah, terrific play right there. Great strength to finish through the contact. That’s exactly how it should be done. Get the bump, concentrate on the shot, and you’ll get the bucket, too. Looking at who’s out there now for the Timberwolves. Reed, he’s checked in for Gobear. Edwards comes in for McDaniels. And it’s Dante Debenzo in for Mike Connley. That free throw good from [Applause] Randall. And here’s Heel. He’ll bring it up for the Warriors. Trailing by 10. Pass to Curry and stolen by Dean Jenzo. Here is Edwards. And Edwards slams it in. Boy, tonight just gives you a picture of the potential of Edwards. I mean, this guy is an electrifying scoring guard. Here’s Curry. Lee Daz was put in just the right spot. And really, it’s been a major aspect of their offense in the early stages here. their success working the ball inside and getting points from close range. Now here’s Randall. Seven points in the game. Reed misses. Boy, they dodged one there, guys. I mean, he got the wide open look that he wanted, just didn’t knock it down. Kaminga dishes to Curry. Kaminga screen on Devenzo. Heel the pass to Kaminga. Outside Curry pocket six and Kaminga throws it down. Well, you want to stop Steph in the two-man game, but he’s so smart. He he’ll get others involved. It’s 9 seconds separating the shot clock and game plan. Pastor [Applause] Randall out of bounds. Timber’s ball as Minnesota keeps possession. 12 seconds left here in the opening quarter. Right side Edwards. 4 seconds left and he sinks the layup. Edwards got 14 points. Displaying intensity right off the opening tip, especially on the offensive end. Tell you what, forget about easing into the game. They came out with punts blazing. The first quarter concludes in a double-digit lead on the scoreboard, but Timberwolves on top up by 10. And we’ll be back with you right after this. And welcome back to the second quarter of action. Plenty of basketball left to play, but this one has been one-sided so far. And what do you guys think about Minnesota here in this one? Well, in that first quarter, they they were intent on just pounding the ball down low. Yeah, and it’s worked. They’ve got a clear edge and points in the paint. Now, we’ll see if they go with a more balanced attack or just keep on pounding it inside. I’m told now by our producer, do we have them guys? Okay, we do. We have a call coming in from Shams Cherani. Shams, thanks for joining us. What do you have? Thanks. Many consider this summer to be the most challenging field in the history of international basketball. Nevertheless, Team USA got it done in Paris. It’s not getting any easier, but the star power of the US men’s team shine bright in the city of lights. Guys, a classic ending for a stacked US roster. You’re right. What a performance. Dejan’s Gania with the report. Thanks, Shams. They’ve got Dante Devenenzo. He’s out there with Anthony Edwards. Nas Reed out there with Nquille Alexander Walker and it’s May not in at the fourman position. So that’s the lineup for Minnesota. And they call an illegal screen here. And guys, point of emphasis for the league is to really crack down on illegal screens. Yeah. You know, he might have gotten away with that a few years ago, but not anymore. No way. Now you’ve got to be stationary on those screens. No extra hips or elbows or they’ll call it. The Timberwolves making a switch here. Cars has checked in. Chenzo passes to Reed. Alexander Walker with the ball. Reed in the post. Payton’s there. Reed misses. Warriors trail by 10. Pass to Heel. Go. Here’s Jackson Davis. He has yet to score. Set it up. Here’s Curry. Curry through traffic. Count it. Oh, stronger than he looks. Curry able to take the hit there and finish. Reed with a screen for Edwards. Sinks the three-pointer. Edwards got 17. It works well there. Not much resistance from the deep. Yeah, that’s not the defense you need. You got to be tougher defensively. Here’s Payton and he banks in the layup. And he can time his passes so perfectly. Wow, what an assist. Curry against Denzo. Reed with a screen on Curry. The three forenzo. Warriors with the [Applause] rebound. Payton looking around. Kaminga finds Payton. Here’s Jackson Davis. Oh, good with the triple. Not quite enough defense that time around. Just lucky to outside [Applause] Edwards. Pass to Reed. Shot clock at six. Yep, that one goes. Unselfish as somebody who already draws a lot of defensive attention. Edwards has to be willing to make that next pass to the wing right side. Jackson Davis with the bounce pass. Curry can’t get it to go. Not sure why he keeps trying his love from deep here. It’s just not his night. And here’s Edwards. He’s got 17. Edwards shooting fearlessly from the arc. You know, Edwards is still tweaking his three-point shot, but sure looked good there. And you see, don’t you, Clark, the steady progression year over year for Anthony Edwards. Well, he’s already an all-star since his third season with Edwards. The chance is there if he continues to show the same improvement he’s shown thus far, that he’s going to be MVP caliber, and I dare say perhaps the face of the league for several years to come. And no doubt they’d love to see him get a lot more of those opportunities. And that deficit will go away quickly if he does. Greg, well, I like the way he capped off that drive. The one handle punch go. Floats it up for Kaminga. Takes the alley pass and dunks it down. Good decision making by Heel. Giving it up when somebody else was freer and in better position. and finished off by Edwards. Show us what you got, young fella. Anthony Edwards, love to see you operate like that. Outside Curry. Curry on the drive. Reed with the rebound. Timberwolves leading by 12. Up top, Edwards. covered by Heel and finished off by Edwards. Well, you love to see Edwards shine on offense like this. I know it’s got to be making his coach happy, too. And we’ve got a timeout called by Steve Kerr. Wants to talk some things over. Might be seeing some things to [Music] adjust. Yeah. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Go’s checked in for Minnesota. Mike Connley comes in for Alexander Walker. Green, he’s checked in for Golden State. Pompeki is coming in for Heield. [Applause] [Applause] Kaminga down low guarded by Reed. And now the Timberwolves on the break. Now here’s Steven. Tight defense on him. Pass to Reed. It’s rebounded by Golden State. Kaminga down low. Covered by Connley. Back to Kaminga. Outside Green. Shot clock at five. Golden State needs to get off a shot. Stolen by Reed. Here’s Peninszo throws down the breakaway jam. Venzo doing a nice job hustling on the fast break there. Getting back in a hurry to finish the play to the middle. Here’s Kinga. It’s good. Outstanding entry pass there. He knew exactly where to go with the ball. The Warriors shooting their fourth attempt at the free throw line right here. And on the season, you know, they’re hidden about 76% which is a decent rate. You know, their percentages dropped off just a little bit compared to last year, guys, but it’s not a huge drop off, so no major concerns. Looking at who’s out there now for the Timberwolves. Julius Randle comes in for Reed, and it’s McDaniels in for Dante Devincenzo. That one misses for Kaminga. Minnesota leading by [Applause] 14 outside. [Applause] Edwards shoots over Pompeki and the Timberwolves taking on two more. Boy, great take by Edwards making the correct decision in the pick and roll there. Curry against Con. Curry pass it to Butler. This one for three. Good. And Curry gets the assist. Curry’s got three assists now in this one. Defensively, there was a lack of aggressiveness and it really made it easy for him to knock that shot down. [Applause] Outside Connley. Rebound by Butler. Butler’s got four rebounds now tonight. Mike Conley grabs the miss. Minnesota’s gone two or three when they’ve stepped beyond the arc in the second quarter. Warriors with the rebound now. Poinski still scoreless and Draymond Green picks up the foul. That is his first foul of the [Applause] game. Moses Moody, he’s jacked in for Jonathan Kaminga. Minnesota leading by 13. Now here’s Connley. McDaniels kicks to Connley. Back to McDaniels. Just five on the clock. Takes the three. Warriors with the rebound. Butler’s got his fifth rebound in this one. Down low and Green with the basket on the assist by Butler. Green’s got his second bucket. And one thing about Draymond, he almost invites [Applause] contact. Curry against Edwards launches it from deep. Wow. Drew the contact and that three almost went in. So he’ll go to the line for three free throws. at the line on the night. He’s gone two for two at the strike. Three shots. No good on the free throw. And talented in so many ways. Edwards is focusing on two things. The refining of his shot mechanics and the sustained level of engagement. And the Warriors making a change here. Heels checked in. Good on the second free throw. How about the work ethic of Anthony Edwards? Not to mention that linebacker build and the sweet shooting stroke. But what he wants most is to see his team succeed. That’s what you love about AE. And he nails the third. Warriors trail by 13. Pass to Moody. And here is Green. It’s stolen by Goar out to the wing. Connley kicks to McDaniels. Go Bear with a screen for McDaniels from the [Applause] line and finished off by Goar. Goar so good around the rim. Had that shot back before the defense could do anything with it. Pass to Butler. Green with a screen on Randall. Here’s Butler. Oh, tough play by Butler. I love the spirit he’s shown tonight, particularly on the offensive end. Well, I tell you what, the hole would be a lot deeper if he wasn’t being as efficient as he’s been so far. Now, here’s Goar. Outside Edwards pocket four. Go with a screen for Edwards. Count that bucket. Edwards got 30 points. I tell you what, Edwards has a really nice smooth release and that shot looked in the moment it left his hand. Pass to Moody. Back to Butler. The three. Anthony Edwards with the rebound. [Applause] makes it off the glass. Edwards got 32 points. When you allow good scorers to get uncontested shots at the rim, no wonder you’re losing. You know, he should be getting extra attention from the defense. Not less. He sets the pick for Butler. And that’ll be two free throws coming up. Officials on the call with the foul. Julius Randle picks one up. Well, you got to stay grounded on that pump fake. Butler really effective at getting the defender to jump into his space. Shooting two. That free throw good from Butler. And the Warriors making a change here. Peyton’s checked in. That one misses. So he goes one for two. Minnesota leading by 16. McDaniels with the ball now. Green defending. The length that McDaniels brings gives him an advantage against a smaller defender. Sometimes drawing a foul like he did there. He made the only free throw attempt he had earlier in the game. Yeah, it’s good to see him with his free throw percentage up over 80. We’ve seen some obvious improvement in his free throw shooting since last year. That free throw no good. [Applause] And the second free throw. Good. Pajki with it. Still without a basket. Outside Green. No one near Payton as he lets it go. And again, no good by Golden State. And so it’s Connley bringing up the ball for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Pass to Edwards. And finished off by Edwards. Talk about execution on the offensive end. They’re leaving nothing on the table right now. Yep. They’re starting to stretch this lead out. Too much offense to keep pace with. Green dishes to [Applause] Butler. Goes back up. No good. Shot missing. Randall with some nice deep pass to Goar looking for Connley. He gets it there. The Timberwolves working the ball around. Goar with a screen on Button. Randall against Button. Randall surveying the D. Two points. That one goes. Randle’s got nine. well-rounded effort and and they show no signs of letting up. Almost no holes in their performance tonight. They’ve been tremendous. Pass the buck. Seven foot shot. Judy Goar with the rebound. Goar has got seven rebounds in the game. Outside [Music] Edwards and two free throws coming up. Unable to get that one to go with all the contact. Yeah. And you know, when Edwards is aggressive, I think it forces defenders to try to get physical back. And when he’s close to the rim, he usually is able to draw the foul as a result. [Applause] He’s off on the first and the Warriors with some changes. Looney comes in for Green and Healed subbed in for Payton. and he sinks the second. There’s 38 seconds left now here in the second. Here’s PMski. Covered by Connley pass to Butler. That one goes in. Butler’s got eight points in the quarter. Butler challenges the opposing team everywhere on the court. Never afraid of any situation. He’ll battle you down low. and finished off by Edwards. And this offense is in a perfect rhythm and you can see how they’re finishing their play. Boy, this is borderline ridiculous. I mean, every single attempt finding the bottom of the bucket. The Warriors shooting their seventh and eighth attempts at the foul line tonight. Taking two shots. Shoot two. And the first one drops. [Applause] 9 seconds left in the second quarter. Go Bear with a screen for Edwards. Off target. That was a little heat shield. So, as we conclude the first half so far, fairly one-sided. Minnesota on top as they end the second quarter with a massive 16-7 run. And now, let’s catch up with David Aldridge who’s standing by from the sideline. All right, Dave. Thanks very much, Steph. What do you think of your defense in the first half? We’re a little We’re a step late, I think, and you know, they made tough shots. We can’t take away from that, but uh for the most part, we have to find a way to to guard that line if they’re knocking down shots uh to keep them out the game. We’ll see where the adjustments take you. Thanks, Steph. Back to you, Kevin. Thanks for the great interview, David. And we’ll be back for the third quarter of basketball following halftime. [Music] down the [Music] side. Let’s hear what Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. and excited first half. We’ll see if things play out a little more evenly here in the second. You know, Anthony Edwards has been exceptional here, guys. He’s done a fantastic job of finding open space to operate with within the first few quarters. And you know what? It helped that they had a few guys with very hot hands on the perimeter, too. Here’s Curry setting the floor for the Warriors in the back court. We’ll see Curry and Pachki. Jimmy Butler is out there with Moses Moody and it’s Green in at the five in the paint and he’s good on the three ball. Could have been much better defense. I mean, you can’t give this guy any room to operate. Outside, [Applause] Edwards. Back to Connley. Crops in the layup for two. Six points for Mike Conley. Right there. Conley working his magic inside. He is crafty near the rack outside. Green back to Curry. And too much time in the lane. They get called for the 3second violation. So costly error there. We’ll see how they rebound from that miscue. Well, you know what? Their wounds are self-inflicted. I mean, you’ve got to play much smarter than that. Here is Edwards inside. Goes straight to the defender for the dunk. Draws the foul. He’ll go to the line and it goes on Draymond Green. The Timberwolves have attempted 11 free throws today and converted eight of them. And really the form at the line all season has been terrific. 79% as a team and that’s a little better than they did last year from the free throw line. Trace Jackson Davis has jacked in for Green. The free throw drops for Gobear. Known as the stifle tower, Gobear’s defense and rebounding are valuable to this team. Pass to Pajki. And with a little over a minute gone, the second half is underway. Count to the basket. No surprise there. I mean, realizing he has the size advantage, he exploits it perfectly. Connley, the pass to Go up top. Edwards. It’s good from the top of the key. Edwards got 39. Well, Edwards looking almost automatic there. Didn’t wait too long to put that shot up. Jackson Davis can’t get it to go. Timberwolves leading by 22. Outside for Randall. Pass to Edwards. and finished off by Edwards. And we all know how explosive Edwards can be. Reminding us there with that thunderous slam Curry against Consky. Some nice passing by Golden State and it’s Butler missing. Timberwolves have gone four for four from the field since the halftime break. Terrific start to the third quart. Nice job by Gold Bear finishing the play through the bump. And these are his second and third free throws tonight. That’s for two. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. A free throw drops for Goar. and that’s good as he hits both of his [Applause] shots. Golden State’s gone one and two from beyond the arc since coming out of the break. Connley against Curry looking to get it going. Go Bear with the block. This is what Goar is known for. His ability to swat shots away with ease. Randle no good. Warriors have gone two of five shooting here in the third quarter. Top of the key. Butler. Here’s the three. Go Bear with the block. Here’s McDaniels. And they call the foul. So a chance at the line for one more coming up. Basically just ignored that contact inside. Really tough finish by McDaniels. Three trips to the line so far for him in this one. One shot. And now we’re 3 minutes into the third quarter of play. Now a timeout call by Golden State. Well, it’s been an express lane to the rim. Coach can’t be happy about that. And you know, I think he’s going to tell him simply, we have to show more fight on the interior. That’s the top priority right now. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat up here. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Clock keeps going. 3 minutes into the second half now. Here’s Jackson Davis and no good. The tri spell continuing for him. Randle with a screen for Connley to the paint and Randall throws it down. And Rolling with such quickness. There’s just no way to keep Randall from scoring that. And so Curry will bring it up for the Warriors. Pass to Jackson Davis. Here’s PMski and here is Moody. Nothing on the board. Six to shoot on the top of the key. Shot by Pajki. No good. Boy, you can just see the frustration growing on their faces. Nothing going their way. You know, guys, no denying it’s been a rough patch here. I think they’ve got to run whatever is best in their playbook to get a good shot. Connley’s shot is off and he didn’t punish them for the weak coverage there, but they can’t count on him to continue missing. Shots good from Butler. You can’t say enough about his individual performance. I don’t think you can overstate it. I mean, even if the all-around team efforts been lacking, this guy’s been on top of things. Outside Edwards, back to Connley. Gets stolen by Curry. And now Curry running the floor all by himself. lays it in off the breakaway. Curry’s got six. And all the way Curry outplaying everyone on the floor. And let’s head over to the sideline and catch up with David Aldridge. Kevin, thanks. The NBA 65 games requirement for postseason awards has drawn some criticism, but Adam Silver says ultimately this is about the fans and putting the best product forward. Load management was not working for us. This is having the desired effect. Guys are out on the floor, Kevin. Yeah, they want to be on the floor, right? Keep them tuning in. Good stuff, Da. Thank you. Kingas come in for the Warriors. The Warriors have gone awhat so far. Four of 10 on their shots in the second half so far. And he drops in the layup off the glass. He’s got eight. And that’s almost automatic anytime he can get the ball in that position outside. [Applause] Edwards and Gobear throws it down. The sevenfooter plus Rudy Goar goes up and makes it hurt coming down. Here’s Curry. Two free throws coming up and they call the shooting foul. first personal foul. And let’s get your take, guys, on the scoring breakdown for Minnesota. They’ve been in the zone from mid-range all game long and and they’ve made the most of any chance they’ve found in that space. You’ve also got to commend them for how they’ve attacked the basket. They’ve been aggressive. They’ve not settled and have consistently gone at the rim. And the first one at the line is good. What you appreciate most about Curry is his confidence, especially when it comes to how far he can connect from. Alexander Walker, he’s checked in for McDaniels. Payton, he’s checked in for the Warriors. And both free throws good for Curry. Timberwolves have gone seven of 10 on their field goal attempts here in the third. Pass to Alexander Walker. Randall from outside. Shot clock reset for the Timberwolves. Ober filling up all the stat categories in this one. What a well-rounded player. Here’s Pachki. Edwards defending now. Butler. Curry is inside. Good. And Butler gets the assist. Butler’s got three assists now in this one. Huge hole in the defense that possession. He didn’t waste any time cutting through it. Has to go [Music] bear. Randall against Kaminga. Just five to shoot. [Applause] handle down low. That shot misses. Nice defense from Kaminga and foul on the shot. He’ll shoot two at the free throw line. Michael Connley picks one up. Clever move by Curry taking the foul but still getting the shot. This is his second trip to the free throw line. Got to admire what he’s been able to do at the free throw line this season. How about over 90%. And fellas, I I think you have to like his improvements over his free throw numbers from a year ago. It’s not a significant number or or a huge amount, but it’s improvement nonetheless. That’s good from Stephen Curry. Some changes for Minnesota. Nas Reed, he’s checked in for Julius Randall. Clark comes in for Edwards. And it’s Dante Danchenzo in for Mike Connley. And both free throws good for Curry. Here’s [Music] Devenenzo. Clark outside launches a three. It’s good from long range. A versatile guard. Leenzo is excellent at hitting his teammates in their spots. Outside Kaminga. Back to [Music] Curry. Rebounded by the Timberwolves. And Clark, here’s a great guy to have in the rotation. Nquille Alexander Walker. Loved him in college. Loved his versatility. and I thought it would translate nicely to the NBA. Took him a minute to find his rhythm, but he’s got great length, which makes him versatile defensively, and he can play with just about anybody because he’s got good allaround offensive skills. Reed the pass to Deven Shenzo. Block at six. Minnesota needs to get off a shot here, but the 19-footer is on the money. Reed’s got his second bucket of the game to go. Unwilling to let up even for a moment. That’s his killer instinct. Just fanning the flames. Yeah, I love the fact he doesn’t play the score. He just keeps coming. Attack mode. He doesn’t know how to step off the gas. And some changes here for the Timberwolves. Randle’s checked in for Reed. Edwards comes in for Clark and Mike Connley subbed in for Dante Deincenzo. And the Warriors with possession here. Count the bucket. And he’s got a free throw coming up as well. And Curry’s not the biggest guy, but he can sense the contact coming and makes the adjustment. The Warriors have been getting it done at the line. 10 for 12. That’s good from Stephen Kirk. And so it’s Rendle bringing it up now for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Pass to Edwards. Pajki grabs the board. Golden State’s gone one of four in three-point shots here in the third. Here’s Butler and out of bounds as the Timberwolves gain possession. Dante D. Vincenzo. He’s checked in for Minnesota. The Warriors also with a sub. Heels checked in for Curry. And the Timberwolves with possession here. Randle outside. Go Bear with a screen on Kaminga. Randall and he makes good on the layup. Randle’s got 13 points. Yeah, an underrated ball handler. Randall can beat you off the dribble. He keeps pressure on the defense. Pass to Pajki. Kaminga kicks the button. Payton dishes to heel. Back to Payton. Down to five on the shot clock. off target with his three. The Timberwolves shooting 59% up to this point. They’re working for great shots and they’re hitting them. Here’s Alexander Walker. He’s defended by Pachki. Go trying to get open. The shots good from Alexander Walker. Yeah, taking it right into the teeth of the defense. And it’s a defense that’s starting to look frustrating. Well, they should be. I mean, it has not been a good performance for him at that end of the floor. Golden State moving the ball around. [Applause] Go Bear with the defensive effort and Minnesota has possession. Here’s Randall. And that one clearly a foul. Gets the whistle and two shots coming up. Jonathan Kaminga picks one up. Powerful move that time by Randall and he’ll go to the free throw line. He’s gone one of one in the game so far from the line. Two shots. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. And he makes the first. And the Timberwolves making a change here. Clark’s checked in. Looney’s checked in for the Warriors. That’s also good. So he hits both free throws. The Warriors have gone seven for 16 the second half from the field shooting a bit under 50%. He outside good and Butler gets the assist. Heels got himself going there. his first points of the game on the deep [Music] ball. Kaminga against Clark. [Music] Pass to Devincenzo to the inside. Here’s Alexander Walker. Missile blows. Bucket is good. He’ll have a chance at the line to make it a three-point play. and he’ll be shooting his first free throw of the game here. And at 78% he’s been a consistent shooter at the line for them all season long. Guys, he’s slightly fallen off his pace from a year ago at the line. And those points from the strike have been a little harder to come by. Reed, he’s checked in for Minnesota. And that one misses. [Applause] Golden State’s gone a less than productive two of six from three-point land in the second [Music] half. He against Devincenzo. Fires from deep. Another three for Golden State. A very efficient range shooter. You expect Heel to take these shots. Creed with a screen on Payton. A shot by Alexander Walker. No good. Kaminga against Iven Shenzo on the wing. Heel. Six points for him. That shot off the mark. Yeah. And you could tell he thought that triple was going to fall. Clark inside. Payton’s there. No good from Clark. Butler passes to Looney. Back to Butler. 18 ft away and he knocks it down. Butler’s got 33 points. And this is Jimmy’s sweet spot. He loves finding room to shoot that mid-range jumper. Even Jenzo kicks to Goar to the left wing. Butler against Reed. [Applause] When Niles Reed is out there, Clark, spacing the floor is a real asset for him for sure. And you know, he really puts a lot of pressure on the defense because he can score from anywhere on the floor and he’s got great size and strength and he does the little things, too. I mean, you look at his points and rebounds, but this guy gets deflections. He goes after loose balls. He gets you extra possessions on the glass. He steps in and takes char. I mean, he does all the little and big things. First free throw is good. Dillingham’s checked in for Nquille Alexander Walker. And the Warriors also making a change. Spencer’s checked in. And so he makes both from the [Applause] line. We’ve got 28 seconds left to play in the third. While their pass it to Spencer and here’s Looney healed outside. No good on the three. [Music] Pass to Devincenzo to the paint and go kicks to Devanchenzo. Here’s Freed. And that shot was up in time, but doesn’t go in. And so it’s Minnesota rolling along with a 27point lead as we wrap up the quarter. And they’re winning the turnover battle very easily in this one. We’ve got more in store for you right after this. in a moment now as we take a look at our State Farm assist of the game. And how about the big fella here showing us he’s got some point guard skill here with the tremendous setup. Hey, that was a highle pass no matter what position it came from. But it does make it stand out a little more when it’s made by the big fella. And with the fourth quarter upon us, time is running out for this game to become competitive. Illingham is out there with Dante D. Venenzo and it’s Joe Engles. Then there’s Reed and it’s Clark in at the three, the small forward. So that’s the lineup for [Applause] Minnesota. Warriors shooting here about 46% for the game. Payton passes to Kirby. Launches from deep. Engles with the rebound. The Timberwolves shooting it very well tonight around 57%. Engles with a screen on heel. Evanzo the bounce pass. Mark against Curry. Five to shoot. Now here’s Devenenzo. Guarded close. Nailed from three-point land. And the three-point shot of Devenenzo is dangerous. Defense cannot allow him to get airspace from there. To the right side. Pony finds Heel. tried to answer back, but that three is off the mark. Minnesota’s gone one and two from three-point range here in the fourth. Venenzo passes to Clark. Pass to [Music] Reed. First personal foul. First team at the line for your trials. Three. Shoot it off. The first free throw is good. Miller’s checked in for the Timberwolves. [Applause] No free throws good from Reed. Fourth quarter now. We’re about a minute and a half in. And a T3 from Curry. An absolute bomb from three-point range. This is exactly the kind of unique range that Curry has. I mean, as soon as he crosses half court, you got to get up on him. Reed with a screen on Kirk for three and the rebound goes to the Warriors. Kaminga got rebound number five here tonight. And there’s Stephen Curry on the assist by Payton. Curry’s got 20. As a defender, it’s got to be a feudal feeling when Curry’s in the zone like this. Even passes to Miller. Even with a screen for Miller. Pass to Dillingham. Reed with a screen on Cur. Six on the shot clock. The Timberwolves again can’t hit. Warriors have gone two of four from the field since we started the final quarter of play. Takes a three and that one is off. The Timberwolves have gone 104 since the end of the third quarter. Clark outside. There’s a good screen. Shoots. It’s rebounded by Kaminga. Kaminga’s got six rebounds here tonight. Healed with it. And it’s Miller picking him up. He kicks to Kaminga. Pass to Curry. Uses the glass to finish the layup. Curry’s got seven points here in this quarter. And how about when Curry gets fancy with it? His confidence is what allows him to pull off these moves. [Music] And we’re about 3 and 1/2 minutes into the fourth quarter. Here’s Clark. Somehow ignores the tight D and gets the layup. Oh, such a field shot there. The motive. The Warriors have gone three of six in the field so far in the fourth quarter. Inside, it’s tipped. Looney pass it to Heel. Looney kicks to Kaminga. Some nice passing by Golden Stadium. Right side Curry. A rebound by the Timberwolves. Now Dillingham down low. [Applause] to the middle. Now here’s Clark. Pass to Devincenzo. Miller with a screen on Curry. Five on the clock. Up top. Steven Enenzo guarded by Curry and not allowing the shooter even an inch of breathing room on that one. And guys, that’s exactly the kind of high impact defense they want to see out of [Music] him. Pass to [Music] Kaminga. Now heel from deep. Stevenenzo with the rebound. Miller [Music] outside. Back to [Music] Devenenzo. Creed with a screen for Devenenzo. Cruz it from outside. And the lack of effort to fight over the screen there makes that an easy shot. Well, I’m going to credit the screen. I mean, that’s a good strong pick. He lays there outside. Kinga healed outside. [Applause] [Music] to end the drought. Peyton kicks it to Looney. Peyton in the corner. Left side. Curry launches it. Hangs home the trifecta. Curry’s got 25 points in the game. It looks easy, effortless. Curry natural from long range. Clark outside. Pass to Dillingham. Reed with a screen on Kirk. Dillingham no good. How hard to figure out how he doesn’t knock that one down. No defender in sight. Curry with it. Now here’s Looney. Guided by Reed. Looney. Pass it to Heel. Out to Payton. He’s looking for Looney and finds him. Dillingham with the rebound. Minnesota’s gone a disappointing tour of Silks on three-point attempts here in the fourth. And great. Talk about a guy who can create for himself. Dillingham can already score on elite defenders. Yeah. And Kevin, a lot of that is his footwork. You can see the hours he’s put into it. And then add in the body control and quickness. Good luck slowing this young man down and he knocks down the first one. Some changes for Minnesota. Minods checked in and Nquille Alexander Walker in for Clark. Different look here for the Warriors. Draymond Green, he’s checked in for Cavan Looney. Butler comes in for Kaminga. Moody’s checked in for Payton. And it’s Brandon Pajki in for Heel. Both good from the line that time. So, it’s the Warriors now. Here’s Curry. Butler dishes to Curry. Fires from the wing. The shots good on the assist by Butler. Butler’s got his fifth assist in this one. Pass to Dillingham. Here’s May not. And it’s Alexander Walker in the corner. Shot clock at six. He can’t get it to go. Some solid defense from Butler. The Warriors have gone five of 12 from the field entering the fourth quarter. Now Greened by Reed. Back to Butler. Pass to Green and it’s Green with the jam. These kinds of buckets are what get Green hyped up. He takes a lot of pride and pleasure in cooking the defense. At the line for the Warriors, Draymond Green shooting one. One shot. One shot. [Applause] Free throw. Good. Green. What I appreciate most about Green is his leadership. Strong vocally on and off the floor. [Music] Now Alexander Walker. Another miss by Minnesota. Butler pass to Green. Butler kicks to Curry. Pass to Green. Lets the free fly. Offensive rebound. Butler has never lacked the willingness to be aggressive and to hunt. And you got to love that toughness aspect about Jimmy Butler’s game. [Applause] free throw. Good. Butler. And so Butler nails both of them. Timberwolves leading by 22. Pass to Devenenzo. Gillingham setting the screen for Dvenenzo. The three-pointer is right on target. Dvenzo’s got nine points now since the second [Applause] half. Here’s PMski defended by Dvenenzo on its way from Curry for two. And the Warriors miss again. The Timberwolves shooting has been terrific. 54% on the game. Chillingham. Warriors with the rebound. Moody’s got his fifth rebound in this one. Here’s Pajki. Defended by Alexander Walker. And it’s out of bounds. The Warriors able to retain possession here. And that kind of stifling effort on defense needs another look. Sharp instincts on D there. Just timing when to rise up and swap that one away. The Timberwolves making a switch. Ingles is checked in. [Applause] Here’s Butler. Green with a screen on Ingles down low. And it’s Green with the jam. And that IQ of Green just sizing up defenses and making the right feed in that pick and roll. Pass to Engles. Back to Alexander Walker. They set the pick on the wing. Engles. And it’s off from three-point range. And so it’s Butler with it. He’ll bring it up for Golden State. puts up a deep three from beyond the arc and then some. Moody’s got himself going with the triple. His first basket of the [Music] [Applause] game. Here’s Alexander Walker. Defended by Moody. That one go. Who’s counted? And they are really racking up the assists in this one. And their team chemistry is evident. These guys enjoy playing with one another. Here’s Pachki. Good. And Curry gets the assist. I love how he establishes his post position inside before he converts. Timberwolves leading by 20. Alexander Walker with the ball. Picked by Reed. Here’s Dillingham, a three-pointer off the mark. Warriors shooting about 47% here in the fourth. Yes. And and with this one winding down, it’s obvious to everyone who watched it. Just a total mismatch and a true show of strength for the Timberwolves. It was a standout performance across the board. I mean, it was like watching a cat play with a mouse. They were able to do more or less whatever they wanted. And you know, when you look at the huge impact he had, just a monster game for Anthony Edwards. And you know, there was no stopping him tonight. Whenever he got the ball, he was looking to score. And rightly so. Six to shoot. Here’s Alexander Walker headed by Green. Nice shot by Alexander Walker. No good. Oh, pass to Curry. Green with a screen for Curry. Off target from outside. 6 seconds separating the shot and game clocks. Alexander Walker finds Devenenzo. Back to Alexander Walker. Now here’s Steven. He’s defended by Pachki, Dante Denenzo, and that’s good. And you can sense that these fans, these players, they are ready to celebrate. And I think they can start that celebration right now. I mean, what a terrific team victory. And so, it’s the Timberwolves taking care of business here. This game may not have been the most exciting we’ve ever seen, but you have to appreciate just what a clinical performance they put on. I know their fans appreciated it and we saw at time just stretches of excellent defense potency from an offensive standpoint as well. They they were pretty much dominant.
