Dallas Mavericks win NBA draft lottery in stunning turn of events | Dan Patrick Show | NBC Sports
The Dallas Mavericks win the NBA draft lottery, followed by the Spurs 76ers and the Hornets. It’s one of those moments where you’re watching and you’re watching it. It almost slowed down. I I am I’m watching. I’m going, “Oh my goodness.” So Utah’s out and Washington’s out and New Orleans is out. I’m going, “Uh, okay. And let’s go to break.” And then they come back, I go, “Don’t be damned. Dallas is going to win the NBA draft lottery.” And we gave you a heads up yesterday. Here is Fritzy on the show. All right, Todd, you are going to manipulate the draft lottery. What is in the best interest of the NBA? My initial thought was from Durham to Charlotte that Cooper stays in North Carolina and the Hornets get the pick. But I’m actually going to go with the Mavericks after the fans got blindsided by that Lucer deal. I’d like to see flag go to the Dallas Mavericks. All right. Okay. You kind of picked two there, but you did, you know, I guess finally focus on the Dallas Mavericks. So, I’m going to give you credit. I in fact, I text that to the Danets. I said, “Pritzie got it right.” And uh Dallas gets their man. But, you know, there’s going to be people who say conspiracy theory or why would you uh you know, uh do something, go out of your way to help the Dallas Mavericks. As our good buddy Vincent Goodwill says, “I’ve watched the lottery, picked up the ping-pong balls myself to see how they they’re weighed, etc. Not only is draft rigging in that way really hard to do, it’s also a federal crime. We don’t want to, you know, have something like that get in the way of our conspiracy theories.” But when you do think about it, there are times when you go things that make you go, hm. So Patrick Ewing going to the Knicks, Derek Rose going to the Bulls should get a little more emphasis here because they had like a 1.8% chance to get him and he goes to his hometown. LeBron goes to his hometown. The Dallas Mavericks don’t deserve this. But then they get Cooper Flag and I’m thinking Cooper Flag is there for the lottery and he’s got to be thinking, “Please not Washington. Please not Washington.” No offense to Washington DC, of course, but you know, he goes to Dallas and you do have some veterans there. I think that will help. I don’t think the focus will necessarily be on just him. You get AD, you get Kyrie, you know, they got some younger big men, too, and I think he might be able to ease in a little bit better with a place like Dallas as opposed to Utah where he’d be singled out and uh certainly with Washington DC. But the Mavericks win the lottery and let the conspiracy theories resume. Yes, Paul. They were immediate yesterday. Whether online or just walking into people outside my house, people are like, “Oh, this is classic NBA. They convince the Mavericks to quietly trade Luca to the Lakers and do him a solid on the back end.” And I mean, these were grown men walking up to me. I know. Yes, Eden. The conspiracy theories were so prevalent that we actually did it on our show yesterday with that clip you just said. If we were to manipulate the draft, where would we put them? That’s how far ahead everybody was on. So, let’s see how they rigged this. Yeah. Yeah. And I didn’t even think, but there I saw some of the threads that said, uh, oh, I see what the NBA did. You know, the Mavericks did the Lakers a solid. Gave them their future with Luca. Well, we got to do something nice for them. We’re gonna give them Cooper flag. Also, the speculation on where Giannis is going to go. He’s just said he would be open to a trade. He’d be open to it. Now, that’s a polite way of saying you can trade me or we’re going to trade me. I’ll decide where I want to go, but uh you know, hopefully it’ll benefit you guys because the window is closed. You know, Dame time is is over. uh that clock stopped now with Giannis at 30 and there were a lot of analysts who you know they had trade scenarios for the Bucks and the San Antonio Spurs and I was like why San Antonio for Giannis if I’m San Antonio and I have De’arren Fox Stefon Castle was the rookie of the year I got Victor Wimbeyama I just build it just add a little bit more you’re going to need another veteran you’re going to need somebody who’s probably in their late 20s early 30s And then, you know, that’ll be a steadying force that you’re going to have. I said from the time that they drafted Wanyama, just get a point guard. Well, they have a couple of them. That will, you know, help his growth, but they have the second pick in the draft. And Ace Bailey might be the guy. Uh Ron Harper’s son might be the guy. And I did watch a little bit. I watched more Ruters basketball than I should have. And these guys, while they’re great, they didn’t even make the tournament. They they have potential. Potential means that you haven’t done anything. And I think that’s the scary part of, okay, you can add them. Is that really going to change your fortunes? And San Antonio has two draft picks. I think the second and the 14th, you know, maybe you can uh pair that together. Maybe you can put together a package. Maybe you could get some some pieces there. But I think San Antonio, you know, quietly did well last night. And uh, you know, we go back to the teams that lost, the teams that had 14% chance. Uh, you know, is the lottery fair? Well, is tanking fair? You know, that’s the problem I have that you had teams that tried not to win. Maybe they weren’t trying to lose as much as they were trying not to win. I know it’s semantics here, but you know, we’ve gone through a lot of iterations of the NBA draft lottery, and I don’t know what is considered fair, but is this five consecutive years that team with the worst record didn’t get the number one pick in the the lottery in the draft? But I don’t know what the probability of that is of the worst team is not getting the number one uh pick in the draft.

If the lottery was rigged, no way San Antonio would have won in ‘87, ‘97, and ‘23. It’s a small market/legacy ABA franchise.
NBA draft will never be as big as the NFL draft coz the NFL draft gives hope to the miserable fans while the NBA draft takes away the hope of those miserable fans.
RIGGED RIGGED RIGGED RIGGED RIGGED
Obviously it's not on the level but all the corporate gate keepers will say we'll never know.
I can't be the only one who's ok with the teams that actively tanked getting shutout last night can I?
Stunning turning of events….LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The NBA is so corrupt. I'm done with it. Never forget that the Mavs ROBBED Luka of over $100 million. Thieves! No surprise that the gambling casino owners got this lottery pick. Gambling and pro sports….never should have been allowed. The NBA needs to be investigated. It IS a federal crime. Prosecute.
Sports is fixed, how “stunning”
Can we fire Nico now ? He is of no use to us now.
Keeping the NBA narrative active 😑 obviously rigged and it all began with Ewing 🤷♂️
Spurs consistently tank every single time there’s a generational big up for grabs in the draft, nobody says a word. Mavs get decimated by injuries, actually scratch and claw their way to the play-in, and suddenly “the fix is in!”. Same thing happened when the Mavs drafted Lively. Media went in on the Mavs when they were literally in the playoff picture until the last week of the season and they were accused of tanking. Not a peep when the usual culprits are in the lottery tho…
Rigged. “Trade Luka to LA, we need ratings help. You’ll get Cooper.” It’s obvious.
Why the NBA remains a joke.
The only thing stopping this 4 headed monster is the “injury report!” 🤦🏽♂️
Fire Nico now before he screws up this up too.
10000% rigged league! Its all agreed upon months ago before mavs traded luca, they did that with the guarantee that they get 1st pick. No one understood why they traded luca but now it all makes sense. Of nba fans still believe all this is organic then you are the most gullible fans out there
All these people just now realizing the NBA is rigged is very funny to me. Bird to Celtics and Magic to Lakers didn’t raise any eyebrows? It has been rigged for decades.
Wait, does Dan really think it wasn’t rigged? There’s no way he could be that blind.
Old danny focusing on basketball. NHL Playoffs in full swing. Hardly a mention. Yes, nba playoffs are too.
That was there reward for giving the lakers a star iykyk 📝
I do not understand why anyone wants to trade for a superstar because the amount of prospects and matching salaries makes it hurt to much you wont be able to add anything to the team to make it even better. I would not trade Copper for Giannias straight up because of the salary savings. Flagg first contract will be 4 year 62mil Giannas current contract is 175 for the next 3 years. But the final year (62.7mil) being a player option where he'll be 33 years old and will be looking for another 4-5 year deal. You could have Copper and might be able to resign both Gafford and PJ Wash if you wanted for the cost of Giannas alone.
One of the henchmen on here, idk what his name is, but he is basically an Americanized James Corden
2:53 “… these are grown men walking up to me.”
What’s more surprising to me is a grown man believing that a sports league is in business to simply promote a sport based in fair and level competition.
