Donovan Mitchell Talks SERIES LOSS vs Pacers, Full Postgame Interview

victories. Um, Cavs lose four to one. They’ve been there. We had some mental lapses. Um, they capitalized and those can change a series. You lose game one, you’re chasing a series. Game two happens chasing and you give a lot of energy game three and then game four like, you know, find the uphill battle against a team that has the fastest pace in league history. Um, yeah. I saw that you went back out on the court a little bit after the final buzzer. What was going through your mind at that point? What were you trying to process? Just couldn’t believe it. Um, didn’t want to believe it. Don’t want to believe it. Still don’t want to believe it. It’s tough. It’s tough to win this league. Give them credit. We didn’t do the things necessary. I love playing in that arena, man. Like that energy, that crowd. We’re owning three at home, you know? Let the city down, man. That’s This place is special. This place is really special. And we didn’t get it done, Chris. I guess especially at home that’s what hurts, you know. Um yeah, so I mean just feel like for us we had a lot of positives, a lot of but you know I told you during the year we’re going to be judged off this going to be a lot of talk. It’s what comes with it. And we’ve we didn’t capitalize. Um, so now we got to use this as motivation. Everybody’s going to write us off. Everybody in here, I mean, it’s not personal. So, what are we going to do about it next year? And um, yeah. probably black and white, but considering that you guys had a 64 win season and then have your season and the same game as last year, do you view this year as a success? Um, we took a step in the right direction, but we didn’t win a championship and we didn’t complete the end goal. So, no, there’s no moral victories here. Um, we just didn’t get the job done. There’s really nothing else to be said. J, sorry. Go ahead. Go ahead. What do you think needs to happen between right now and this time next year to take that? I think everyone um I just feel like this is a lesson. Um like I said, winning is winning is tough. You got to be willing to damn near die out there on the floor. Um not to say we weren’t. Um but for a full 48 minutes on a consistent basis, you got to be that desperate. um can’t have little mistakes. I can’t get a steal and get momentum, go behind my back knowing everybody’s behind me and lose the ball and get the ball right back to him. You know what I’m saying? I can’t not Tyrese has hit four threes. I can’t not switch up. He hits three from the logo. Like changes the game. I can’t miss three free throws. Like I don’t give a damn how tired I don’t give. Here we are. Like you know what I mean? Um, yeah. Toughness isn’t just physical. There’s a bunch of different components of it. Mental, emotional, physical part of it. But when you look at this group, do you think this group is tough enough as a collective? Yeah. I think I think the biggest thing is I mean, I’ve been doing this eight years and I’ve been in the same round eight years. Um, these things aren’t easy. Just when you think you’ve gotten somewhere, there’s another level. You know what I’m saying? And I think to Danny’s point, like to Danny’s question, like we took a step, wasn’t we didn’t take two, we took one. Um, and getting beat down like this and y’all are going to write some about us, man. And that’s going to be fuel. Like, you know, fuel for everybody. Y’all going to say a lot of y’all are. And that’s what it takes. I’ve been here. So, I understand. We understand. And now we just got to use it as fuel for next year. Diamond. Do you think there’s any do you think this team lost a little rhythm between the Miami series, the week layoff, and slow start in the series? I think game one set the tone. I don’t think it was damn near the same week we had before we played Miami. Um, game one set the tone and obviously guys are out game two and like I said, you’re fighting uphill battle. Um, it’s a different pace. It’s a different, you know, it’s different. Um, so I don’t think it was a rhythm. I think we just No, I don’t think we got out of rhythm. Last one. Ken, last year talked about the core four and and keeping this unit together. There was a lot of questions and you guys stayed confident in it. Is that something you would go to bat for keeping this team as a whole? I go to bat for every guy in that locker room. Like willing to die out there for those guys. We all are for each other. Um I mean we get so like winning is not easy. Some things have to go right. So you got to play well. you know, you got to capitalize on opportunities. Like, you know, I’m obviously, you know, you you you look at around the league like it’s just, you know, you got to capitalize and um we have a window with this group. I believe in everybody in here. Um we believe in each other. That’s what’s just we’re a good team. And for five, four games, three games, we didn’t show, you know, what we’re capable of. And ultimately, that’s what we’re judged on. So, get in the gym, weight room, nutrition, whatever the hell it is, and get back at it, cuz y’all going to write us off, man. But we’ll be back. We let S city down, letting each other down. He’ll be back. wrap up. Thank you.

  1. What the hell is the point of winning all those game in regular season to just clocked in the playoffs every year.

  2. They really had a chance; they were the better team. Also, Boston's injuries increased the Cavs' chances, but they unfortunately could not get past the Pacers.

  3. The problem with cavaliers is that they spent all their energy on finishing top and then they were running out of gas at the start of the series 😂

  4. Biggest mistake he made was not getting to New York 😂 he thought he was doing it in Cleveland. The Knicks laid out the red carpet.

  5. cleveland loves you don, none of this is your fault. dude was insanely gassed every single game

  6. The simple version: They were just better than us all around. After being number 1 and going out like this…😢

  7. They got out coached and he ain’t about to say that to the press…Even if you don’t make baskets, you have to stop the other team from making baskets 😮

  8. Not a fan of this team but i really thought they gonna win it all this year but they're all just a joke. Specially the coaching staff

  9. Personally think Dmitch is the best SG in the league AND the dude is taking accountability for the loss, hope the Cavs are great next year too

  10. Mitchell you played your heart out and I have nothing but the upmost respect for you my dude.. coming from a Pacers fan. You are the heartbeat of your team 💪🏾. Keep your head above the rim 💯.

  11. He wasnt hurt when refs was calling all those fouls for the cavs verse Miami lol cavs are trash…he said he is willing to die out there for his teammates then why didnt you die out there

  12. all them other dudes need to take note. They were acting real different. I hope this is a wakeup call smh. wasted season. If Spida leaves this team is done

  13. It's OK Cav's ❤. Learning lesson. We will get them next time. We still love you guys. Now you guys know. The play off is harder than regular season. Stay strong 💪 . Keep your head up. We are still proud of you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Every body needs to know the play off is definitely harder. We love our team. We are still proud of you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

  14. Goes to show you regular season means NOTHING in the playoffs you start at 0, everyone was on the Knicks for having a bad record against certain teams and look now . .

  15. We Love You Spida! Rocking wit you the long way they need to follow your lead and play tougher! Shout out to the guys giving all with injuries too but we gotta be stronger in the playoffs and play more physical so they get hurt not us

  16. No matter how this thing turned out for them…DONOVAN MITCHELL IS ONE OF DEM ONE'S. Brother is a SUPERSTAR who doesn't get the credit because he's played for small market teams ( Utah and now Cleveland). If he played for the Lakers, Knicks, Miami he would get more RESPECT. I will never forget that Jazz vs Nuggets series with him and Jamal Murray going other worldly against each other.

That said, Mitchell knows that until proven different this years Cleveland Cavaliers will be viewed like the 2015 ATLANTA HAWKS. That Hawks team won 65 games in the regular season and was looked at as a lock for the finals and got DESTROYED in the playoffs. It's why you have to take advantage of the moment because some teams never get back to where they were…the NBA is funny that way. You can see he's HEARTBROKEN with this and probably blames HIMSELF alot and this will eat him up ALL SUMMER. I feel bad for the brother but someone's WIN is someone else's PAIN. Carry On…

  17. I really am surprised that the cavaliers went out like that now if the Celtics lose and the thunder to the top 3 seeds are gone from the playoffs

  18. D Mitch did his thing tho cant blame him

Cavs need to play better as a team score easier dont force up shots and better defense 🤦🏽‍♂️

  19. Just wondering if Charles Barkley will call them trash like he called the Lakers trash. Cavs won 64 games and they praised them while saying they wish they would stop showing the Lakers. They lost just like the Lakers 4-1!! First or second round does not matter. They went home period regardless of numbers. Not letting them off the hook: No excuses for them, blaming injuries, saying the work it takes blah blah. Nope nobody gave the Lakers a pass and their stars were playing injured. Good Bye Cavaliers. Hook up with my Lakers on vacation.

  20. I feel like the Cavs were shell shocked beyond repair after game 2. They need one more piece of the puzzle to move forward and I am sure it's coming, and it is not LeBron James.
