The Spurs WILL DRAFT Dylan Harper!?
Earlier today, Spurs fans, I did a video about who the Spurs should possibly take with a second overall pick. Should it be Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey, BJ Hedgecom? Heck, should the Spurs possibly trade down? Well, an article from Sports Illustrated just changed everything. What is up, San Antonio Spurs fans? Welcome to TSR Sports. Wasn’t planning on doing another video today, but I saw this news. I was like, I got to do it. I got to do it as a Spurs fans. I got to share this with you cuz it I found it exciting. Here we go from Sports Illustrated. As the NBA draft combine continues, our San Antonio Spurs seem to be increasingly enamored at the opportunity to draft Dylan Harper. A recent report by ESPN Jonathan Javanni further supported that. ESPN draft expert says he’s 99.9% sure that Dylan Harper will be selected second overall by our Spurs. Quote, “They are not pursuing trades from what we’re hearing. They think that they can play Harper together with Steph Castle and Darren Fox in the same back court. Let’s actually play just a little bit of this. Dylan Harper is going to be the number two pick in the draft. I am 99.9%. Well, yes, he’s going to be the second pick overall. He’s the second best player after Cooper flag. We already know that. I think we skip ahead. They talk about Spurs here. The San Antonio Spurs are signaling to teams that they are very excited about the opportunity to draft Dylan Harper. They are not pursuing DRA uh trades from what we’re hearing. They think that they can Okay, so he’s going to quote what he’s going to say exactly what I just quoted. So are Spurs and could this could be could this be a smoke screen? I don’t know. We we’ve talked about the channel a lot already this week that if you have the second overall pick, you don’t necessarily take the the the player that fits the the position you need. take the best overall player. And from what I’m hearing from you guys, it’s Cooper Flag, Dylan Harper, and then the rest. Okay, let’s get more into the article and I’ll give my two cents on the situation. Since landing the second overall pick, the discourse around what the Spurs plan to do with it has continued to run in circles. Whether San Antonio would take Harper, the consensus number two prospect behind Cooper Flag, ace Bailey for a stronger immediate fit. There’s that fit, or deal the pick for a bigname star like Giannis Aebo. Our Spurs options remain open. I said it earlier in the video today. Options are good. Any questions about the fit? According to Harper, it’s a moot point. This is Dylan Harper talking about this and apparently played did or did very well to draft. Quote, “The NBA is really positionless basketball.” Let’s stop the quote there. What Harper said in the draft comment, “Yeah, more and more it is becoming positionless. It’s not the days when I was growing up in the 90s where it was you had point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, center. that I don’t even think wing was a word I knew at that point. I don’t think they were calling the number two and number three wings. The game has definitely changed a lot. Back to his quote, you could play with a bunch of ball handlers and a bunch of people that could get opportunities for themselves, but let other people get opportunities for them. Okay, the 20 Okay, this is actually an article. The 2025 NBA draft is set for June 26. All right, time for me to chime on my two cents. Please do so in the comments down below. Take this for what you will. Is it a guarantee the Spurs will draft Dylan Harper based on the reporting from Giovani? No, it’s not. But I get take the best player available. And when I think about our San Antonio Spurs and I think about basketball, which is basketball, you have two guard spots. You got your one and your two, your point guard and your shooting guard. Between the two of them, you got what? How many minutes? 48 and 48 and 4. You got 96 for each position. There’s plenty of minutes to go. Wait, you got the math again. 48 and 48. You have 96 between the two of them. Come on, TS. Sorry, it’s been a long day. 96 divided by 3 is 32. So, there are plenty of minutes to go around between Fox, Castle, and Harper. If we That was to going to be the three-headed monster, the three amigos. Sorry, I don’t know where that came from. I do know where it came from. It came from the three amigos. However, the big question mark here, Spurs fans, is if they draft Dylan Harper, a lot of ifs. What happened with Decel? I I think Deon Vel’s too small to play the three. That’s a big question mark. If they draft Dylan Harper and I honestly if I, you know, I sit here and think about it, I’m like, what would I do if I was Brian Wright? Cooper flags the obvious choice. He’s not going to unless barring a miracle and strangers things have happened on draft night, he’s going to go number one to the Mavericks. Congratulations, Dallas fans, if you’re watching. But I I I agree with you guys after I’ve been able to kind of pontificate on the video from earlier. Yeah, you take the best player available. It’s that, you know, it’s not like Fox is going to be here 10 years. you get Darren, you know, signed Darren Fox maybe to a three-year max and then, you know, you have the three-headed monster and then in three years maybe Harper and and uh Castle are starting, which by the way, stepping back from this for a moment as I was just, you know, thinking talking to you guys, you know, demo cells, question mark, what we do with him, but I’ve seen a lot of sites talking about this and maybe I’ll talk about it tomorrow in a video, but it’s weird that we get Darren Fox, not weird, but we get Darren timing the timing is weird. We get Darren Fox in what was a good trade right at the time. Yeah, I love the trade for Darren Fox. We gave up much less than I thought we would. And then we jump up to number two in the draft, which we could not have expected when we when the Spurs made the trade for Darren Fox. I’m sure they thought, “Hey, we’re going to make a playoff push with Wy, right?” And WMY gets shut down. What? They played five games together, Fox and WMY. We get shut down. And now you’re you’re sitting here at number two in this year’s draft. And the best player available is a guard, which we certainly don’t need, which is why I think Demmael if Dylan Harper’s drafted. And look, I like Demond. He becomes more expendable than ever. Unloading that what 27 million 24 27 I think think it goes up and down at some point in its length would really help alleviate salary, you know, any kind of type of salary cap issues we could have in the next few years. That’s one thing we got to be aware of, guys. I see a lot of guys just saying just get Yiannis, just get Yiannis. You got to remember the salary cap is real and the Spurs aren’t going to be one of those teams that’s going to be like, “All right, we’re going to go way past the salary cap. Hit the luxury tax. Hit the first floor. Hit the second floor.” No, that’s not going to happen. I think they’re going to try to keep it. At least under the luxury. So, this is going to be a very interesting time, but I I’m excited if they draft him. I watch his highlights. Yeah, he can ball. No, no doubt. He’s an exciting player. Yeah, the fit’s a question mark, but you know, look look at the Oklahoma City Thunder. I don’t know if you guys are talking about this or Reddit somewhere, but you know, they started drafting guys and Josh Giddy was a young player they took and eventually he didn’t fit, so they moved on from him. There’s not it’s not to say we couldn’t move on from any of our young guys. Wendy’s obviously a lock. I think Castle’s a lock. Fox is going to be here for who knows how long, but maybe the other young players on the team. your GM cells, your Jeremy Sohands, your Kellman Johnson’s, the guys that were drafted pre-Wemy, they’re the ones that I can see being the ones, those the ones that probably won’t be here for the long haul if the if the Spurs are going to move on from any of those guys. It’s going to be the guys pre-Wemy, not the guys postwing guys to build around Wemby where the pre-WY guys were. We were just I don’t know what the heck we were doing at that time. We’re trying to build a contender, but anyway, you get my drift. So, with this news, do you take it with a grain of salt? Do you think this is just a smoke screen? The Spurs, uh, you know, Spurs did the reverse last year. Weren’t they kind of saying that weren’t we getting the vibes reports that they weren’t interested in Stefon Castle and then we end up drafting him? So, could this be the reverse? The Spurs pointing it out there that, yeah, we want Dylan Harper. We need Dylan Harper. Are they trying to make Dallas Mavericks like, “Oh, maybe Dylan Harper’s the way to go.” And then I don’t know. We just run this guys. Its already a playoffs team last year with wemby. Why do we need to a drastic change now? With the addition of harper, we should have no weak spot on the guards with 3 of them having 30-33 min a game.
We all know the real problem is rebounds. we should have traded for sabonis instead of fox. We can still get him but will destroy our 2nd team of vassell keldon champagnie and sochan
Harper is by far the best player available after Flagg. He gives Cade Cunningham vibes. Definitely should take him at 2
Dylan Harper has great basketball pedigree, excellent IQ and good attitude to sport being the son of a Coach and a basketball legend, which SAS franchise covets dearly. Definitely draft him no doubt
The spurs financial will be get really bad if we get giannis, beacuse three years later we will have 3 max contract and it will be hard to keep that
If we pick Harper, we have the option of trading Fox + Vassell and some future picks for a very good big man.
Another option is to trade up our pick 14. Throw in Vassell or KJ plus some of our future draft picks to move up to the top 8 and draft a solid big man. With our plethora of future draft picks we have so many options here. It's going to be interesting to see what our management come up with. They've already proven to be great at this

Hey TSR…. Coming from Corpus Christi. Been following for a while. I do like that we get Harper and let him run the 2nd offense his rookie year. I have seen Castle nearly met him. The young man is 6’7 easy and solid. I think he can slide to the 3. My next hope is we trade Vassell possibly for a 1 year rental like Porzingus. He’s got one year on his contract. Try it out

Spurs and Mavs both have the pick of franchise shaping players in Flagg and Harper. Spurs are in a win win situation because they just have to select one of the two players and they still have all of the future draft capital intact.
Could be a ploy to make a team sweeten the deal for that 2nd pick. If they assume we want to keep it teams might throw in more or take less to have it.
Draft Harper, trade vassell for a big or wing, problem solved. If its only that easy

Let’s say this is right. It just means that SA will have to address its needs some other way. They still need another shooter and they still need a big man. You might be able to get a big at 14. If so, then trade for a shooter. Or maybe you trade away the 14th pick and get a couple of vets. One thing is clear: if the pick is Harper, the chances that CP3 is gone just went up.
I can see the Spurs starting Castle at SF and starting Harper at SG.

Position-less basketball doesn''t mean you can play with a bunch of small guards who need the ball and aren't good shooters. If you want position-less, you need a bunch of versatile wings that can guard up and down positions.
It is a small ball league, BUT, you need 2 Centers. The spurs are a family organization, and just don’t see them trading Keldon , Sochan, Vasell, or Castle. Get a center at 14 or trade up for Malauch! FA go get a shooter!
I don’t trust reporters and I don’t trust what management says prior to the draft.That said Harper is going to be even better than his dad and he was great.
We are getting talent and hopefully wemby and castle level up next season. I like this, having assets that u can trade later at a high price is always a good thing.
Also we can send vassel and someone else and try to get Kessler or Claxton both really good athletic bigs.Our wings are still bad I hope jeremy next year take a huge leap if not we should trade him we need to look at some young athletic versatile wings .

I already explained why Ace Bailey is not our guy in the previous video. But I can continue :
1) a magnificient assist/turnover ratio at… 0.6 !!! This guy is a blackhole. He is taking the shot even if very contested but doesn't look to check if a teammate is open.
2) his handle is not very good and he should have even more TOs in NBA than in NCAA.
3) his best performances are against bad teams but against better teams like Minnesota, Michigan, Oregon,…, his production is far less (less than 10 points with horrible percentages).
4) from february the 1st to the end of the season, his performance at 3 is 6/36 : 16% (because in february and march, Rutgers were playing better teams).
5) he never finishes at the rim but always stops to take a jump shot or a floater; he is good at it, but this is exactly what you don't want to see (because not efficient enough compared to finishing at the rim).
6) and we can understand why he doesn't go to the rim… he often explodes at the impact…
7) I have seen absolutely no actions with his left hand (in the videos I watched from him).

I wouldn't even draft him if I would be the Sixers. But in general, the Sixers are quite competent to select players at the draft (last year again with McCain) and I am pretty sure that they will select VJ Edgecombe.
The Hornets should stay away from Ace Bailey but they are drafting so badly that I pretty sure that they will select him.
This is all before Giannis officially requests a trade, I think he is the only guy which the Spurs would be interested in trading #2 for, if I were San Antonio your window is now while Wemby is on a rookie contract and if you can have the core of Giannis Fox Wemby and Castle that seems like to good of a possibility to pass up, if Harper doesn’t work or isn’t an immediate star it could put the Spurs back a while especially knowing they could have a top #3 player in the league

If it was last years draft where there was no clear top player and their draft position was all over the board then I would draft for need. In this draft almost everyone has Harper at number 2 as the best player in that spot, for me it is a no brainer.
It’s a smokescreen, we would be too small for sure. Teams like Denver would beat us up in the paint.
I somewhat take his point about the 3 guards, but it's not just about having enough minutes for all of them. It's also about whether or not they're going to fit on the court together.
