Kevin Durant Was DESTINED To Fail With Phoenix Suns | The Zodiac GM

Super excited to welcome on a special guest here for PHNX Suns. You might have seen them on Twitter, on social media, finding a new wave of analyzing sports. It’s the Zodiac GM. How are you doing? Hey, how’s it going? I’m doing great. How are you doing? I’m good, man. I I am very intrigued to hear a lot of what you had to say. I I was uh very happy you quote tweeted my tweet the other day about Brian Gregory and I had been following you for for a while now and and I had I had noticed I’m like man this this guy is just just right about everything and when you said hey the Suns might not be too far away from contention that got me thinking. and I’d love to hear from you. But before we get to the Phoenix Suns aspect of it, I just want to give you the floor to kind of explain to people who are not familiar with what you do what it is you do and why you do it. All right. So, um I’m the Zodiac GM. It’s a title that I’ve pretty much uh created on on Twitter space. Right. So, this started roughly around 2017 or so. It was sort of a passion of mine that I’ve always been into astrology and zodiac signs and understanding the energies around me. Right? So that sort of stemmed over into sports, right? So it clicked one season around 2017 18 where I said to myself, hey, what if there’s some sort of correlation between teams that are successful and if they’re compatible or not? So I, you know, I sort of created my own database to kind of to kind of uh confirm that theory, so to speak, and and kind of analyze different scenarios of why a team is successful. And through that database, I found some common trends. Uh I found certain certain little details that I kind of pulled out and said, “Okay, there’s something here. Let me dig deeper.” That sort of stuff. Right? So, so over the years, um each and every season I compiled this database, collecting data, collecting results, and doing some self analysis as well. And visually, you know, I watch games at different teams and so forth. And it started clicking to a point where I started making some predictions so to speak based on zodiac signs right and sure enough uh you know over time I started there was a realization hey there’s something there you know because the predictions I would make tend to come true even if it’s subtle subtle meaning like if there’s a player that just got recently drafted I can say hey this player is going to connect with this player on this current team and then later down the road they’re either hanging out or they’re having, you know, like like whenever they’re playing the game, even the announcer say, “Hey, there’s chemistry there.” Like little details like that. So, it grew from there to even a little bigger understanding of of theories and mythologies and and everything else. And I think roughly around 2020, I was like, “Well, let me go ahead and try to present this to a couple teams.” I found their emails, sent them an email, you know, I pretty much gave them my, you know, the the the information that that I I’ve gathered. And of course, I didn’t get get any, you know, response as expected, right? So, at that point, it wasn’t until like 2022 2023, I went to my old Twitter account, which I’ve never really used, reopened it, re rebranded, so to speak, from my personal to this the Zodiac GM, and from there, I just started posting tweets here and there, and it slowly but surely, it just grew. And the reason why it grew because a lot of the predictions that I tweeted, you know, ended up becoming true some way somehow. So I think that’s kind of where where I’m at right now. And a lot of it, you know, I do everything, you know, for example, as you know, I don’t I don’t show my face. I’m anonymous. You know, I do work I do work as as an application engineer. I am in the oil ind oil oil and gas industry. Part of that is sort of my u that’s my background. So I have a lot of experience in trying to research and analysis that sort of stuff. and I kind of uh implemented into into this whole u zodiac synergy analysis. So do you have maybe the first thing when you rebranded your Twitter like uh your first prediction that people started to pick up on when it came true just to kind of paint a picture for those who are unfamiliar what you have thought would happen and eventually it did come true. Yeah. Uh it was the f the first tweets several of them was um just just playerto player or teammate to teammate compatibility and there were just the simple ones right I would say hey lamelo ball Brandon Miller will click and that’s when the night you know this was before Brandon Miller got drafted and the Hornets ended up selecting Brandon Miller and then there was something along the lines where where um LaMelo Ball you know introduced himself where they were basically hanging out and then that little subtle, you know, uh, clip or video that showed up in Twitter. They’re saying, “Hey, Zodiac GM said they were going to click and they’re hanging out.” Hm. K kind of like that. That’s that was a small part, right? But the bigger one that ended up blowing up was the Damon Liller, uh, Dame Lillard trade to the Milwaukee Bucks. The first thing I said, I was like, “Hey, I don’t think this is a good fit for him to go in a team like the Milwaukee Bucks.” It was probably the worst fit for him. And whenever I tweeted that as soon as he got traded you know initially as expected a lot of people you know they were saying uh they were doubters basically you know and you know they were saying hey astrology is a joke don’t put astrology in basketball and I just said okay well let’s see because you know for me I don’t like to confirm everything at oh is going to happen because anything can happen I’m not perfect you know no one’s perfect right but this is just an analysis that I’ve gathered over the years where I feel fairly confident well Hey, based on this analysis, there could be something going on there. And it wasn’t until they fired Adrien Griffin, cuz that was also another uh tweet I posted about Adrien Griffin. He’s not going to connect well with Giannis and so forth. So, those two ended up blowing up. And um and at that time, the Milwaukee Bucks were were struggling even though they were a good team. But one of my main things I pointed out in that tweet was the Milwaukee Bucks will still win games because of talent, but not chemistry. So that sort of kind of went on from there. Um, and yeah, so here I am now and you know, I’ve got several, I guess, team so to speak and, uh, I guess players and stuff like that reached out, which I thought was pretty cool, you know, just to kind of get an understanding of their energies and they they they were curious as well, you know, and kind of go from there. So the Phoenix Suns, uh, not a great spot for them to be in right now. Obviously, this past couple of seasons have been massive disappointments. Despite acquiring just high levels of talent, Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, on paper, the Phoenix Suns should have worked out. From an astrology perspective, why didn’t they? I’ll tell you why. Um, Kevin Durant, I mean, as as bad as it sound, Kevin Durant’s a superstar, right? I mean, you want the big names and yes, that’s true for a franchise, you have to do that. I mean, for marketing, right? I mean, it’s it’s a brand, too. Kevin Durant, that’s it’s a it’s a high high name brand. So, um it’s because it’s Kevin Durant and not not not the reason why I say that is because the way the Phoenix Suns were previously constructed before he arrived, they were good. As you know, Chris Paul, when Chris Paul was there, Phoenix Suns were pretty good, right? They made the the finals and then that team just to kind of take a step back Chris Paul is a Taurus. All right. And they had Devin Booker is a Scorpio. So just to let you know, a lot of the water and earth elements, they tend to understand each other. Just think of it as like speaking the same language in an energy sense. It doesn’t mean they’re going to hate each other or like each. It’s just that they understand each other. Um, so I like to kind of mold that into, you know, kind of like a like a group. Okay. As long as they understand each other, they’re they’re there, right? But if you start mixing some of the elements of opposites, then that’s especially when that opposite element, for example, like Kevin Durant, who’s a Libra air sign, who has high influence, meaning that once he goes to the, you know, Suns, he’s not going to be on the bench. He’s going to play. He’s going to be a high usage player. You know, they’re going to game plan. So his usage, his influence is so heavy that it could affect the team that was currently there previously when they had, you know, um, uh, Cam Johnson, you know, even Crowder and even Bridges, you know, and that team had a what I like to call a 5-0 where their five starters were all compatible, including uh, Aiden. So that’s part of the reason why their synergy was so fluid. It was sort of like in unison. And that little edge where you can connect your teammates much easier is a big advantage because everyone in the NBA has talent. I mean that’s a given. You’re in the NBA there. There’s a baseline talent, expected skill. All that is already given you for all these 30 teams. But what’s the edge that you can get out of it? People talk about, you know, hey, I want to scout a talent. I want to scout this. But how do you scout chemistry or how do you predict chemistry? Well, this is a way to do that, you know, and that’s a big deal on its own. So beyond Kevin Durant, because if if that element with with Devin Booker doesn’t mix, where does Bradley Beal fall in all this? Because looking back at that team before, maybe they would have some less talent than this current team. But you’re right, they were dancing. They all seemed like they were friends. They were spending time with each other outside of the court. That was ne never the vibe from this iteration of the Suns. We mentioned the KD part of it. What about Bradley Beal synergy? because there’s a chance that him and Devin Booker remain on this roster if he can’t find a trade for him. Correct. And I think that’s probably the the the best possible route at this time considering that no trade. But the thing the thing because there’s so many dynamics to analyze in the team. The thing with Bradley Beal, he’s he’s a cancer energy. The thing with cancer energies, the water element, they’re all about emotions. You you kind of had to they kind of had to feel comfortable. Sort of like they they you had to make them feel at home, right? So the one big disconnect right off hand with his connection with the head coach was that their energies are opposite. So Buddhenhauser is a Leo Buddhener is he’s a Leo energy right a fire energy and you’re mixing in with the water energy that they can get along which is fine like I said they can get along. It’s just that if they’re together collaborating you know especially with game plan at times cancers tend to walk sideways which means they they don’t really like to be confrontational. So there may be something that you know Bradley Beal will see in the offense but he’s sort of like I guess in a way timid to say something or if he does say something there’s some going to be like some sort of a I guess absorb absorbing the sponge I like to call it uh from from from uh from boon holes because he’s a fixed energy Leo so they’re tend to be a little bit more stubborn more fixated so if he has a game plan in mind and he’s going to stick to that so I think there was a comment I saw on on uh Twitter that he wanted to turn Bradley Bill into a player like Drew Holiday, right? But that’s not going to work. I mean, with a Leo telling a Gemini, which is what Drew Holiday is, it works because they understand their energy, right? But if you’re if a Leo is telling that to a Cancer, a Cancer is going to get defensive about it. You see? So, little subtle details like that could affect the dynamics of chemistry. And that’s sort of the reason why um it’s sort of like a common thing where I analyze, hey, that could be an effect. But with Bradley Beal mean being a high influence player for the team and him not fully being there, I I can just get a sense he’s not comfortable in that locker room mainly because of the head coach and also Kevin Durant, you know. Well, those two guys might not be there coming next season and Bradley Beal might not either, but Brian Gregory will be. He was just hired by Matt Ishbia to be the new GM replacing James Jones on the basketball operation side of things. That’s how you and I’s interaction started was you saying I’m not, you know, too far away from thinking the Suns might actually be able to fix this. What is it about the Brian Gregory hire that it seems like I’m missing? So the thing with Brian Gregory, he’s a Sagittarius. So a Sagittarius is a mutable sign of of fire, right? And they tend they’re very they’re very highly intellect. They’re they’re smart individuals, right? Um they they’re very optimistic as well. So they’re the type of energy that that will listen to others around him say in the front office and he’ll consider what you know the advice is given and he’ll make the best decision possible. Whereas sometimes when there’s a fixed energy they tend to be fixated on their own views and they tend to stick to a certain player that they want to get or a certain plan that they want to do and that gets a little bit harder that way and so forth. But his energy fits just fine. It’s it’s it’s okay with for for this group because he he can expand um you know to to different to different levels of of trying to acquire a player. But I think they’re maybe a good two or three moves away just you know they don’t need to make a drastic change. If they plan to keep Booker um they’re good you know because the the team is they have some some players in there that all they need to do is just stick to those players and then make a couple moves. And yes, that is one would be, you know, with Kevin Durant. I would put him in either the trademark. I know he’s being rumored to be traded and so forth, but but yeah, that’s that would be the first step in my opinion. And also getting a coach that’s compatible to Booker. Do you have any names of of coaches that you know might be circulating that you feel like would be compatible with Booker? I I know that that’s kind of a more niche question than just players and whatnot, but curious if anything comes to mind. Several. Um, so the thing we got to understand, Booker is a Scorpio energy. It’s a fixed energy, but he has a Gemini moon. So he’s a little bit more more adaptable to different scenarios, right? Um, so with him, I I would probably I he probably connect very well with either a Virgo, someone like Taylor Jenkins or Mike Malone, who both are Virgos and are available, you know, um, or also even Pisces energy like Mike Brown or Becky Hammond. Uh, you know, so if if the Suns want to build culture, and this is kind of where it gets a little bit um iffy, someone like Sam Cassell could work because he is a Scorpio. But I would recommend someone like Sam Cassell being a Scorpio only if the Suns were a younger team, if that makes sense. Because the thing with Scorpios, they’re all about culture setters, right? They set the tone to a foundation. Whereas I feel like the Suns are already sort of like that that mature team. You know, Deon Booker’s been in the league for quite some time now and it’s time for him to to get to go to the next level and you need a coach like a Virgo or a Pisces in my opinion that can get him there if that makes sense. So I like to call these enabling energies, right? So those in my opinion as far as for the head coach would be enabling energies for Devin Booker. Another aspect I like to look at would be like the point guard and also the, you know, the u the role players around him, but that would be the start in my opinion. Gotcha. Okay. You mentioned there were a couple players. My last Phoenix Suns question for you. So, there were a couple players on the roster that shouldn’t go anywhere. Obviously, the Suns might be looking to make a lot of wholesale changes around Devin Booker. For those players that are under contract, a Grayson Allen, a Royce O’Neal, a Nick Richards, are there any players that you feel like should be a nogo, that’s a perfect fit next to Book? Uh, in my opinion, um, I know they’re probably free agents, you can probably get them cheap, and I like to call those value players. Um, especially they have some high, you know, high salary uh, players. U, in my opinion, I think I think Mitch would be a a good pickup. I’m not I know I’m not sure if he’s in on the team or I know he’s going to be a free agent, but Gilles uh I apologize if I mispronounced some of these names, but Gillespie being a cancer. Yeah, he’ll work really really well with Booker. Uh Plumbley, uh I’m just kind of looking through a list here. Uh Morris would be another one. Ty Jones if he stays and BB Bowl those would be compliment complimentary energy because they’re not high influence. They’re more like, hey, they’re good to be like role players and let Devin Booker do his thing. And I think if we get the right coach, then that’s when Bradley Bill can really buy in because in my opinion, I don’t think he’s bought in, especially his last season. The the the disconnect between him and and Benhoser, I mean, that’s it’s too strong. And you know, if you’re going to be playing in a team, it affects you. It it does affect you. Of course, we don’t talk about it, but players have feelings, you know, and I could just get a sense that he’s not comfortable because Boonhoer is is is a head coach. But if you get the right head coach, look at, for example, in Denver with Adelman fits perfect with that team. You already get a sense that whole team loves him. You want that type of energy, but in in more complimentary players all around. Like the more energies that complement each other, the better overall. So, yeah. Gotcha. Well, thank you so much for taking some time out of your day to help us look at the Suns through a different lens. If anybody’s interested in how you analyze sports, where they can, where can they find you? Twitter uh or X um at the Zodiac GM uh or follow as well. So, um so yeah, that’s that’s where you can find me. And and and a last tidbit, I just want to add some players to add that they can acquire. That’s okay. Call section. Colin, this is just recommendation. Colin Ston, Tobias Harris, Desmond Bane, uh, Goh Betaz, Clapella, or Dean Wade. Those are just players to throw out. If they can acquire someone like that, I think that’ll be a huge improvement. It doesn’t have to be high market high players like Kevin Durant, but players that fit and are right actually really, really good. I think that those will be good players next to uh Deon Booker as well. So, yeah, great insight from the Zodiac GM. You guys can follow him on Twitter at thezodiac GM and get up to date with everything NBA related, not just the Phoenix Suns. Thank you again. Awesome. Thanks so much. Thanks for having me.

Kevin Durant’s time with the Phoenix Suns is seemingly coming to a close, and fans are still curious as to why they underachieved. Erik Ruby taps in on the astrological side of things, discussing a different reason as to why the Suns failed, with special guest, The Zodiac GM. They discuss the basis of how The Zodiac GM analyzes the game, why it works, what went wrong with KD and Book, what players and coaches would work well with Book going forward, and why Brian Gregory might not be the wrong choice to lead the franchise into the future.
