Mavericks Next Move REVEALED…
The Dallas Maverick’s next move has been revealed. And now that we know for sure the Mavericks are going to use their pick to draft Cooper Flag, the structure of this roster is in question. Cooper Flag being both the best offensive and defensive player of this draft, it is a no-brainer that he is going to be a starter for this team and get starter quality minutes. But when you have Anthony Davis playing the power four position, PJ has been forced to play the small forward position, which is going to open up even more questions as as his extension is right around the corner. Are we going to have PJ back up Cooper flag, or are we going to use PJ in a trade to try to get a point guard to hold things down until Kyrie Irving returns? So, in this video, we’re going to take a look at PJ Washington, see how he fits with this team currently constructed, and what would need to happen if we were to trade PJ. But how’s it going everybody? My name is Marcel Martin. This is Mavericks Digest, bringing you the latest news on everything Mavericks related. And before we get started with today’s video, we’re currently sitting at 20,523 subscribers. It may be the off seasonason, but it’s not my off seasonason. I’m bringing you content on a daily basis. And if you don’t want to miss out on a single thing we do, make sure you subscribe. But the Dallas Mavericks have had a very tumultuous season. The basketball gods laughed at us in February as we fumbled the bag. We fell out of playoff contention. Then we got into the playin and then we lost in the playin and things didn’t look good for Mavericks. But we still had the NBA lottery. And as we all know by now, we had that 1.8% chance to win it all. And we won it all. While the Dallas Mavericks have drawn the number one pick in the NBA draft lottery and in the last video we went over how it was explained by Patrick Dumont that the number one overall pick will be used to get Cooper flag. We don’t have to worry about Nico trading it away for Kevin Durant or for Giannis Antompo or Bronny James. The Dallas Mavericks are in a very good spot now that we have Cooper Flag. Not just for now in this small window of we need a win now, but in the future, we have a young player who is arguably the youngest in this draft and is the best player in this draft. That that bleak future that we thought we had is no more. But we do need to talk about the present and the players that we currently have, who stays, who goes, and who fits where. Cooper flag being a 6’9 small forward, shooting guard, maybe a power forward, he’s a very versatile forward. And for the Dallas Mavericks, he fits perfectly in that small four position next to Anthony Davis, next to Daniel Gaffer, next to Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving. It’s a starting five. That would just be absolutely amazing. But what about PJ Washington? And not too long ago, about two weeks ago actually, I put out a video talking about PJ Washington has to step up. And although PJ Washington missed a quite a few games, about 30 games last season due to injuries and being sick, he still had a good season. But there were still things that he had to improve upon. Arguably his ball handling skills. Whoever great idea it was to have him bring the ball down. He needs to work on that. But if we take a look at his stats for this last season, PJ Washington did average 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 blocks, 1.1 steals, and 2.1 turnovers, as well as 2.3 fouls per game, shooting 45% from the floor and 38% from three. And although he did miss time because of injuries, we knew the impact of PJ. Without PJ Washington, we were getting outrebounded. We were just not able to keep up with bigger teams or the the defense wasn’t there. It was abysmal when he was gone. But when he was available in playing, everything looked good. PJ Washington was arguably one of our most valuable players postrade and pre-trade. But that doesn’t mean that things are always going to look that way. PJ Washington did have a pretty bad end to the season. A few games were pretty rocky, especially the game against the the against the Memphis Grizzlies in the second round of the playin where he didn’t score a single point and a lot of fans were already fed up with him. But the Dallas Mavericks have a glaring need and it is for a point guard. If we take a look right here, the report that came out saying there’s a very decent chance they’re going to explore the trade market for PJ Washington. That is the reality. And that was Mark Stein on the DLLS show. And yes, we know that players are going to get moved. Getting Cooper Flag really does change everything. If we were at the 11th pick, we just pick a point guard and we move on with our season. But you get Cooper Flag who is going to play the small for position. Now you got to worry about PJ. Now you got to think about the point guard that you still need. And although we have Brandon Williams at the moment of this recording, we still have Jaden Hardy. We have Dante XM as well as Spencer Denwy. But you know that you can improve at that position. And with PJ wanting an extension, and we don’t know how much money he actually wants, but there is an extension for PJ just around the corner, we have to make a decision. Is he going to be okay with coming off the bench to a rookie? Do we ask Clay to come to off the starting five to the bench? Are we going to move AD to the five, PJ to the four, Cooper to the three? It’s a very weird situation, but all signs point to that PJ Washington could be shopped for a point guard as that is one of our other needs that we have before we go into this upcoming season. And one player that a lot of people are just clamoring for is obviously Kobe White from the Chicago Bulls. We made a video about him a few weeks ago and he may not be the playmaking guard that we need right now, but he does provide a lot of just amazing scoring options as a guard. It would definitely round out this roster for this upcoming season if we had Kobe White at the point guard position. Brandon Williams backing him up. We have a lot of depth and honestly, it wouldn’t cost that much to get someone like Kobe White. He’s only making $12 million in this upcoming year. We will need to give him an extension as it’s the last year of his contract. But we at least know that the salary wouldn’t be that big of a deal. But if we take a look at the other reports that did follow, uh even with a Gaffford or PJ attached, the Skyline considers it unlikely that the Mavs will be able to trade for Kobe White this summer without including additional draft capital. He mentioned this during Bobby’s Trade Machine segment on DLLS Mavs. So, yes, Gaffford or PJ, and I don’t want to trade Gaffford. I think we’ve gone way too long without serviceable big men on this team. But if it is going to be PJ Washington, obviously you would have to attach some picks to it. Kobe White did have a great year last year playing alongside Josh Giddy. And unfortunately, they did lose the tiebreaker with the Mavs, which resulted in us getting Cooper flag. So, I’m pretty sure if we wanted to do a trade with them, they would definitely want some picks in return. And after this last season where picks were just going left and right, we don’t really have too many that we can mess around with. But if that is the price, a lot of people were saying that’s what you need to pay. But why would the Bulls trade Kobe White? Well, they have another point guard who is actually asking for a big payday. The report came out just the other day that Josh Giddy is hoping to command a 5-year, $150 million deal. Too high, too low, just right. Well, the way Josh Giddy played last year, it was really a redemption arc after what happened in Oklahoma. So, if the Bulls decide to go in this direction and give Josh Giddy that big contract, well, there you go. You got your starting point guard, your main point guard. You can trade Kobe White as you have other backup guards as well. You get PJ to pair alongside Josh Giddy and they make other moves. They can do whatever they want. But that may be the route that the Mavericks need to go. Maybe not Kobe White, maybe any other point guard that would be serviceable. That fits exactly what we’re doing. But if it’s going to be Kobe White, maybe Trey PJ attacks, attach some picks to it. Some people say that’s an overpay. Some people say that’s exactly what you want. But if we take a look at Kobe White last season last season, he averaged 20.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 02 blocks,.9 steals, 2.4 for turnover turnovers and 2.1 fouls per game while shooting 45% from the floor and 37% from three. Not the biggest playmaker at only four and a half assists per game, but that 20 points per game is pretty nice. I don’t think that would really translate on this Mavericks team when you’ve got when when you already have Anthony Davis as a scoring option, arguably your number one to start this to to start the season at least. Then you got Cooper Flag who could be the second scoring option. You got Klay Thompson, A Marshall, you have a bunch of other players that can score. So obviously Kobe White’s numbers may drop, but at least you know that’s someone that can get his own bucket. He can go out there and score. And then whenever Kyrie comes back, boom, you got Kyrie sliding in at the one to start. You got Kobe White to back him up. And things look good for the Mavericks. But it is something that we need to take into account because if you trade PJ, you’re not just losing a power forward, you’re losing one of your best defenders. And if defense wins championships, we need to make sure our defense does not waver. We know what it was like last year when we didn’t have PJ. We had to rely on Maxi. The defense was bad. The rebounding was low. It was not a good situation. So, if you do end up trading PJ Washington for a point guard, well, who’s going to back up Anthony Davis? Who’s going to back up Cooper Flag? We still need backups. This upcoming free agency is going to be pretty tough as there’s not that many unrestricted free agents that we can go after. Restricted free agents may be a little bit tricky. Some trade targets. There’s a few guards that should be made available. The Mavericks should definitely take advantage of. If we take a look right here, if we take a look at Kobe White’s contract, like I said, he’s about to go into the last year of his contract where he’s only owed 12 and a half, I’m sorry, 12.8 million, which is not that hard to match. He will then be unrestricted free agent. So, maybe we could trade for him knowing that he wants to stay. Maybe he wants an extension. Maybe he wants to be traded. Who knows? That’s not for us to worry about. That’s all up to Nico. He’s been He’s been here. I mean, I’m not gonna say he’s been doing a good job, bad job. That’s for you to decide. I’m not going to tell you how to feel about Nico, but if the Dallas Mavericks are trying to fix any other problem that we have, the next problem has to be addressed is the point guard position. We have both Daniel Gaffford and PJ Washington who are owed extensions. And if PJ’s not cool with coming off the bench, if PJ still wants to be a starter or if PJ wants too much money on his next contract, then a trade trading away PJ may be something that we see before we before the start of the season. But let me know what you think in the comments section down below. Do you think that we’re going to trade PJ? Do you think Cooper Flag’s gonna start? PJ starts? Let me know what you think in the comment section down below. We’d have a conversation about it. But that’s all I got for you guys today. Thanks for watching the video. Make sure to check out our Twitter and Discord links in the description below. And as always, y’all take care. Drink water. Peace.
Rumors suggest the Mavericks may look to trade P.J. Washington this summer as they chase financial flexibility and guard depth. Though P.J.’s two-way skill set have been vital, his impending contract and the team’s salary cap constraints make him a prime candidate for a move. In this video, Marcel Martin breaks down potential trade scenarios, evaluate what assets Dallas could receive in return, and debate whether the Mavs should cash in on Washington’s value or keep him as a core piece.

See if the Suns would let you trade for Tyus Jones
If PJ says hes ok then that settles it
People so quick to get rid of depth. Make him rotate at the 3 or 4. We all know injuries happen. go all in and let season play out before making any trades
Trade pj. Extend gafford. Sign Kai Jones. Lively has not prepared ven to be durable.
What’s wrong with Max Christie starting at the PG? Here’s my suggestion.
PG: Kyrie, Max Christie Brandon Williams
SG: Klay, Caleb Martin, Jaden Hardy
SF: Cooper Flagg, Naji Marshall, Dante Exum
PF: AD, PJ, O-Max
C: Gafford, Lively, Dwight Powell.
The Mavs still have the luxury of Exum, Dinwiddie and Hardy…yes they have AD but he's not as agile as 5-10 seasons ago trade either Dinwiddie or Hardy for CP3 or Coby White…keep PJ and Gafford
Trade Caleb Martin for Lonzo Ball
The first move should be firing Nico
PJ's bad game got us cooper – dont hate lol
😢 the downside of all this is you still have your GM Harris don't get your hopes up too high😢
PJ 3rd best player ( No way , no trade )
trade Max Christie for a point gaurd NOT PJ
keep pj and have klay come off the bench, I think a good starting lineup could be
1- kyrie
2- flagg
3- pj
4-ad
5-gafford/lively
Man, PJ is the most Dawg in our team. And we need that kind of player, It sucks if we can't keep him. I rather trade Gaff than PJ, because we still Lively, AD who can also play Center if needed.Dont forget Kai Jones who is a two way contract that can sign in a standard contract.
Flagg lol,,he can't be luka and wll never catch luka level ❤
Man, I want them to keep both gafford and pj. They are what teams need., toughness integrity, and a little bit of dog and attitude in them especially with PJ, someone who won't back down. So I understand the need for a point guard, but I don't want to break apart the band that made this team successful. Again, Nico does not understand the value that certain players have to a city, and gafford and PJ are one of the fan favorites. So, extend PJ. Who cares if he comes off the bench, it's a great number one option off the bench. Extend gafford, pick up a point guard in free agency, use Williams and get a point guard like Dennis schroder somehow w/o getting rid of PJ or Gafford. Get a veteran pg, don't dismantle the team tho, please Nico. Ride or die with these boys!!
As long as we don’t trade to the lakers then I really be pissed off 😠!
They need to move klay I feel sorry for him but pj solidify you as probly the greatest defensive team in the league giving that we do need a offense that's a tricky one but pj can score and has elite defense and klay sometimes looks good offense and his defense is subpar not saying he's the worst it's a hard one another would be Gafford …because you got A.D and Lively I know A.D likes pF position it would still work if you can switch him to center at certain parts of the game because you have wings all over the place and wings are faster and more mobile I would do gafford before pj and klay just cause of the fact that you still have a lot of size and speed
We like both players, you want to keep AD happy, then you keep Gafford.
If lively gets hurt and you dont have Gafford whos center? AD?….
Having 2 bigs that are injury prone is a problem.
PJ is great but we have a lot of his position. Get something of equal value that is a point guard. We dont need a scorer! Somoene who can get a bucket but can dish the rock to our stars.
Dont trade PJ !!!
Fire Nico!
WHAT YA GONNA DO with Dimwitdie why lookin for a PG
because Mavs Traded LUKA that's why
I love P.J., but it's more important to keep Gafford/Lively duo. It makes us more versatile having both of them, gives us some insurance, and lets us keep them fresh. P.J. acting like a punk to fans pissed about the FO betraying Luka and the fanbase wasn't cool either. So, I'd be cool trading P.J. if we have to.
Delusional…Coby was the PG prior to Giddy arriving but he has transition to the starting SG and has been doing excellent. Stop creating narratives like Coby is an unhappy non starting PG. You sound like an idiot.
NO. PJ is part of the DAWG DNA we need. Him leaving would change the character too much. Why would you trade the TOUGHEST Maverick????????????
