‘Mavs fans, you have a LOT to look forward to in Cooper Flagg!’ – Jonathan Givony | NBA Today

When we step on the floor, we feel we have the best player on the court. Cooper flaged freshman. He’s the driving force. All the way to the [Applause] open Cooper flag. Roll it down, big fella. Day two of the NBA combine going on right now in Chicago. I don’t know about you, but I still feel like I’m I’m catching up with Monday’s draft lottery. That was so insane. Here’s what Cooper Flag said just a few hours ago. I was surprised. I think like a lot of people, I mean, it was a kind of a crazy draft lottery, but um you know, I was just so in just like all the other guys that were there. Um just trying to enjoy the moment. I didn’t really think about um where I was going to land beforehand at all. I just um I knew it was out of my control and um I just kind of went into the whole process with an open mind and um you know not knowing that I couldn’t control it. So just just went into it with a a happy face and just um excited for any opportunity. Our draft expert Jonathan Gavone is live from the combine in Chicago. That draft lottery was insane as Cooper alluded to. We expect though to hear his name called first in the NBA draft. What has he shown at the combine that Dallas is getting here? Malikica Cooper Flag has had a fantastic NBA combine so far. He measured extremely well. He grew over an inch in the past year. He gained 12 lbs. He came out here. He tested really, really well. Bouncy and fast. He shot it extremely well in the drills as well. And just his personality really shine through in every test, every drill. carrying th this combine with his voice, encouraging teammates, being that glue guy and winner that everybody has fallen in love with over the past few years. Cooper Flag, Dallas Mavericks fan, do you have a lot to be excited about with this kid? Well, we saw inside their war room when they found out that they got the number one pick and clearly that response is warranted. But beyond Flag, the other top prospects are also working out here in Chicago. Did anyone stand out to you as the clear number two from what you’ve seen so far, Jonathan? Dylan Harper is going to be the number two pick in the draft. I am 99.9% sure about it. He looked also really, really good. Tested very well. Shot it well. His body is in a great place. He’s lost 15 lbs in the last years. He’s also grown. He has measurements comparable to those of Dwayne Wade coming out of college. The San Antonio Spurs are signaling to teams that they are very excited about the opportunity to draft Dylan Harper. They are not pursuing dra uh trades from what we’re hearing. They think that they can play Dylan Harper together with Steph Castle and De’Aran Fox in the same back court. Obviously, teams have some question marks about the amount of shooting on that roster. That’s something that they are probably going to address at a later stage. Dylan Harper is the second best prospect in this draft. He will go second, I believe. I will take your 99.9% any day, Jonathan. But that’s very interesting that they’re not pursuing trading that pick. All right, I got one more question before we let you go. Your mock draft, it’s up right now on ESPN.com. Is there anybody that you see who has the best chance of maybe making a jump into the top five at the top 10? Yeah, Malikica, NBA teams were buzzing about Kaman Malawatch yesterday. the rate of improvement that he’s shown in the last year with his body, his mobility, his footwork, his skill level. Just to find a guy who’s 7 foot2, similar measurements to Rudy Goar coming out of the draft, except he’s stronger at the same stage. Kaman Malawatch has made so much improvement since I first saw him as a 14-year-old playing in Mexico, coming out of South Sudan. This is a great story for the NBA. The way that they discovered this kid in a refugee camp in Uganda, took him to their academy in Sagal, came over to Duke. He’s improved so much. Come on. Malawatch is going to be a top 10 pick. He might go in the top five. Every team, you know, at three and four and five is looking at him. It’s going to be really interesting to see where he ends up. Malikica, y’all, if Jonathan Gavone says it, it is going to happen. There is no one who knows the NBA draft quite like Jonathan. We appreciate you stopping by, my friend. Go get some deep dish. Oh, I actually I won’t say that. New Yorker. I should know better. [Music]

Jonathan Givony joins me from the 2025 NBA Draft Combine to report on Duke phenom and projected No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg’s stats so far.

  1. I thought before the season Khaman was the only guy who could have dethroned Flagg from being number 1, because his blend of size mobility and maybe shooting in the future can be super valuable, and obviously he's a great kid too. But Khaman has not done enough in Duke and is super super raw, so he's definitely more of a project than Cooper in the fast paced NBA

  2. Everyone locked in on his initial and seemingly shocked face when the mavs got the pick and said he looks unhappy with the result but they skipped right by the face him and his teammates are making right after where they are clearly smiling from ear to ear for him and he looks happy as well.

  3. I wouldn’t put too much stock in these 18 year-old One-and-Done rookies just yet. These guys, including Cooper won’t be rock solid until 3-4 years down the road.

  4. Breaking News: GM Nico Harrison trades Kyrie and number 1 pick to the Lakers for JJ Redick, the player plus one measly 2nd round pick.

  5. I heard Nico Harrison want to trade cooper flag to the clippers for Ben simmons because Ben simmons is a great defensive player. And Ben simmons is a veteran player.

  6. So tired of dei espn. All I can think of is removing Rachel Nichols from the finals coverage solely due to we are putting someone black in instead. It makes me sick because work places have been doing this too

  7. Get that woman off of their, she adds nothing doesn't have a real convo or makes points..just reads script with 0 explanation
"Its such a surprise the spurs aren't looking to trade that 2nd pick"
Really? Why? Care to elaborate or you just gonna say some random bs then move on to your next bullet point? What she said made no sense and she didn't attempt to make it make sense. Why? Bevause it wasn't her thought to begin with so of course she can't explain it

  8. Although Cooper Flagg will just be 18 at the start of the season, I can see him finding success in the league rather quickly. He already shows a maturity that surpasses his years, both mentally and physically, along with enough athleticism and skills needed. Plus, he seems to take the game seriously, should be a quick study, and will be on a competitive team with experienced players.

  9. Everyone’s special saying he doesn’t look excited to play in Dallas. Coop never looks excited he didn’t even look happy in the NB commercial

  10. Yal act like Flagg is better than Lebron and Luka lol 😂😂😂 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ if AD was Ok with Lebron and Luka still didn't win a ring in Dallas what makes people think that Flagg is the difference maker WITHOUT KYRIE KYRIE also will not be the same when he comes back and will be dang near 36 when he comes back..
