🚨REPORT: Philadelphia 76ers TRADING #3 Overall Pick In 2025 NBA Draft? Sixers Rumors & News

Could the 76ers trade the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft? According to a new report from the Athletic, Daryl my Sixers are expected to listen to trade offers for that third overall pick. Welcome in to 76ers. Now I am Jake Chipper. Thank you for tuning in to today’s show. And before we get into the report from the Athletic on the Sixers listening to offers here, I want to know, would you rather that the 76ers keep that third overall pick and draft a player there in the top three, or would you rather them trade the pick for a superstar for later picks in the draft? Let me know how you’re feeling down in the comments section. So, here’s a report from Sam Vini of The Athletic on the Sixers trading that third overall pick. Philadelphia is also expected to be aggressive in how it looks to utilize its luck in winning the number three pick. The East has never looked more wide open for the taking with the Bucks at a crossroads, the Cavs continuing playoff struggles, and Tatum’s Achilles tear likely to hold him out for the season. If Joel Embiid can use the summer to get his knee right, big if. The Sixers could easily find themselves right back in the hunt in the East if things break right. It’s expected that the Sixers will listen to offers for number three, but it’s unclear whom the team would take if it does stay. We’ve talked a little bit about the possibility of trading versus keeping the pick. And interestingly enough, this is different from what we have heard from Daryl my himself on what the team does plan to do with that number three pick. My was asked like is the plan just to take the best player available there at number three. You plan to keep that pick and my said yeah that is the plan. Get a high upside player that we also think can contribute right away. That is a big deal and we feel like pick three is a great spot to be for that. Now, to me, hearing this report that they’re going to listen to offers and hearing what Daryl Moore had to say about keeping the pick. Look, I think my wants to keep that pick value high, right? He’s not going to come out and say, “Yeah, you know, we don’t really like any of the prospects at number three, so we’re going to look to maybe trade that pick.” If he does that, the trade value for the pick goes down. If he says, “There’s a lot of guys we like at number three.” Ideally, that keeps other teams wanting that pick as well instead of knowing the Sixers want to move out. Now, personally, I would still rather keep the pick and take a player like Ace Bailey just with where this organization’s at. I’m not too confident that Paula George, Joel, and Beard are going to bounce back for next season and that this team will be right back at the very top of the East. I think there’s still a lot of question marks around those two. So, I would rather draft a player again like Ace Bailey who could be good right away, but you’re banking on his long-term potential and focus more on the future of this team and the foundational core of this team moving forward rather than going out and trying to trade for a star who you think can help you win right away. But I could see a scenario and I could see why Daryl Moore and the Sixers would be looking to trade that third pick. Especially when you look at the guys that are available there at number three, assuming Cooper Flag does go one and Dylan Harper does go two. For someone like Ace Bailey, who I like a lot, I could see why Daryl Moy might not like him because my is a big analytical guy, a big numbers guy. We know this. And Ace Bailey’s analytics are not good. Now, that wouldn’t uh keep me away from drafting him, but that could be something that Mory looks at and says, “I don’t love the value there.” With VJ Edgecom, the other guy I would consider at number three, does he really fit in on this team with all the other guards they already have? Maxi McCain, Quinton Grimes coming back. I think his skill set could play well with this team. But do they want another shorter guard who could maybe play the three but certainly not play the four than other guys at that spot like Trey Johnson, a great scoreer, but he certainly has defensive concerns. Uh Khan Canupal, excuse me. Does he have the upside that you really want out of a number three overall pick? I don’t think so. And would Daryl Mury want to draft to center like Kaman Malawatch or Derek Queen at number three? I know some Sixers fans might want to, but I just don’t see Daryl my being the GM to go ahead and try to take Embiid’s replacement already because he said he does expect Embiid to be back full strength next season. So, when we think about what teams might want to come up for number three if you are going to trade the pick, of course you could go the route of trading for a superstar, right? Like a Kevin Durant or a Giannis. But Sam Vini in particular in his article with the Athletic mentioned some teams that could trade up. Sixers could move down, still keep some picks and some good players rather than going allin for someone like Katie or Giannis. And you know, teams like the Jazz and the Wizards who had number one odds for that first overall pick and dropped. They could be interested to move up. The Pelicans, the Nets, I think are also two teams that you could see maybe wanting to move up to get a better high-end high potential prospect to kind of spearhead their rebuild. And in Vini’s article, he mentioned the Nets in particular as a team that should and could be interested in moving up. They have four first round picks in this year’s draft, including number eight and a couple more down the board in the first round. and he threw out this trade idea that honestly, even though I’m against the idea of the Sixers moving off of the third overall pick. I think I kind of like this trade. Sixers in this deal would land Cam Johnson from the Nets, who I think would be a great fit with this team. You also add Drew Timmy for some salary matching purposes. Young player though was great in college. And you also trade back from number three. You land number 19 and number 27 in the first round. You’re giving up that third overall pick. Of course, also Kelly Ubé, Andre Drummond, Eric Gordon, all guys that have player options. They would all pick up their options. You send them all out to Brooklyn. And of course, for them, for the Nets, you get number three, and you get the player of your choosing. Look, I like this deal mainly because I like Cam Johnson’s fit a lot on the 76ers. A guy that can play the three, play the four, and can stretch the floor. Basically a 40% three-point shooter. his entire career, his time in Phoenix, his time in Brooklyn. Obviously, hasn’t played a lot of winning basketball in Brooklyn, but he showed to be a winning player when he was in Phoenix. So, I don’t have any concerns there of him fitting onto a team where he’s probably not going to score 19 points per game again if he was with the Sixers. But, you know, back when he was with with Phoenix around 12, 13 a game, be in the right spots at all times. He’s a smart player. We saw him light up the Sixers this past year. I think he had a 40point game against Philadelphia this year. He is a real sniper from behind the arc and would fit perfectly with the way the Sixers roster is constructed. And he’s not all that expensive either. Just about $20 million for this upcoming season, 2526 and then the season after in 2627. So you have him under team control for the next two seasons. It’s not just a rental for one year. This is a player who still decently young. I think he’s around 2930ish. So, not super old, but can still contribute to this team. And again, I think a perfect fit for the Sixers roster as it’s currently constructed. Assuming you’re keeping Paula George, keeping Joel Embiid, you slide him right in there at the four kind of in place of Yabaselli or Kelly Ubé and all of a sudden you kind of have a nice wellbalanced starting five guys with different skill sets. And I think with his shooting just more impactful than the athletic play of Kelly Ubé or someone like Gersian Yabiselli who was a good three-point shooter but not nearly the volume that Cam Johnson is. The other reason I like this trade so much is because I like a lot of the prospects down the board in the first round. Those mid to late first round guys, I think this draft is loaded with talented players from about the 16, 17, even all the way to the early second round range. Guys like Will Riley out of Illinois, young player with a lot of upside. Liam McNeely, someone who’s fell down draft boards but still does project to be a very good shooter. Nick Clifford out of Colorado State can kind of do it all. Another very talented little bit of an older player. Rashier Fleming, he’s someone who has gotten some lottery buzz, but it’s a chance that he could drop a little bit if you do pick up the 19th pick and he is a prototypical big 3 and D wing who shot nearly 40% from three. He can defend. He’d be a great fit on any team. And then at 27, you can get from the Nets, another backup center in Ryan Caulk Brener, who I’ve talked about maybe early second round pick for the Sixers, but he can even man down low, be another center option next to, of course, Embiid Ambona. You’re trading Drummond in his trade. So, there’s a lot of other guys in this draft. A lot of first round talent that I really, really like in that late round range. even some guys at the NBA combine like a Tahad Pedifford or a Miles Bird who are younger guys who have been really showing out and improving their stock. So I think it’s worth it to move down in that area and get two guys instead of just one that realistically maybe not contributing right away although in that range you tend to get guys who are falling because they’re older because teams are passing up on prospects that are good now for guys that might be good later. So you could get some guys, maybe a mix, someone who can contribute right away and then somebody else who might have more long-term potential to fit on this team and then all of a sudden you’d be looking at a potential roster of course led by Tyrese Maxi bringing back Quinton Grimes. Still have Paul George, Joel Embiid, as I said, Slide Cam Johnson in there right at the four. Still have Jared McCain Gerselli of course a question mark. Although moving off some guys here, you would have the money to potentially make it work staying under that tax to bring him back. still have Adam Bona, still have Justin Edwards. Of course, you bring in Drew Timmy in the trade. You could bring back some of the guys, Lonnie Walker, Jared Butler, and you had those two late first round picks to round out the roster. So, even though I am generally against the idea of trading away number three, because I do like Ace Bailey a lot, I think a trade like this could make sense for a 76ers team that is looking to get younger across the board and also bring in a good talent like Tam Cam Johnson. kind of killed two birds with one stone here. So, would you make this trade? Give me an A for accept or a D for decline. Now, it’s not just the Brooklyn Nets that you could potentially make a trade with. There’s plenty of other options, plenty of other teams, of course, that could be interested in moving up. And in this particular scenario, we’re talking about the Sixers trading down. I would want multiple first round picks in this year’s draft. So, plenty of other teams that have two plus first round picks in this year’s draft, like the Jazz and the Wizards, who I mentioned earlier, teams that slid down from one both at five and six, and then later in the first round, a 21 for the Jazz, 18 for the Wizards. Would they be willing to part ways with those later first round picks to move up to number three? The Atlanta Hawks are sitting with 13 and 22. The Thunder, of course, missed out on getting the Sixers first round pick, but they’re sitting at 15 and 24. if they lose this series to the Nuggets, you know, do they want to make some more drastic moves? I’d imagine they’ll probably want to go after a more win now ready type of player than a third overall pick, but who knows? And then the Magic as well are sitting at 16 and 25. So, you have plenty of different routes you can go if you are looking to trade number three, move down, and still have picks in this year’s draft. Just throw more darts at the board, per se. Now, if they do trade the pick, again, this is the route I think I’d rather go. Unless you can get Giannis, but look, you’re not trading for Giannis. It’s not going to happen. I’d rather go this route of trading for a really good player who fits your roster very nicely like Cam Johnson and multiple first round picks. Instead of trying to trade number three, package Paul George, and go after like a Kevin Durant, right, who would be on a one-year deal, a one-year rental, I like the idea of still maintaining flexibility moving forward into the future and getting a good player like Cam Johnson. So, again, I don’t want to move the pick. I want to keep it, but we know how Daryl my operates. He likes to make these kind of moves. He likes to take swings. And it is kind of a top two draft, right, with Cooper Flag, Dylan Harper. After that, it kind of does drop off a little bit. So, I could see a world in which Daryl my doesn’t really fall in love with any of those prospects in there at number three and says, you know what, we’ll take the value. We’ll take a good player and we’ll see what we can do with a couple more first round picks later on in the draft where we can maybe get some good value where they also have been good at drafting in that range. think of a Tyrese Maxi and a Jared McCain. That’ll do it for today’s show, but if you made it to the end of the video, I want to know where my real ones are at. So, if you stuck around the entire time, give me a real one down in the comments section, and we’ll see you next time here on 76ers Now. [Music]

  1. Would you rather the 76ers KEEP or TRADE the #3 pick? Type ‘K’ for Keep or ‘T’ for Trade

  2. Trade the pick with Embiid or George for the overall #1 in a blockbuster 3 way deal. Get a few depth guys like Lonzo Ball, Isaiah Joe, Terrence Mann, Achiuwa, ?!??

  3. If you move the 3rd it would have to be for a top 10 and a later 1st rounder so utah and Washington would be the only options. The nets trade doesn't work because oubre can likely get more on the free agent market

  4. If Sizxers are going to win a title, the ball needs to run through Maxey. We need Embid 25 pts, Maxey 30 pts, George 15, Obrue 15, PF 15. Then you need 25 from the bench total.

  5. I don't get why people treat Cam Thomas like a star the dude is just a role player on a good team he might not even be as good as Tobias Harris and quite frankly f*ck the Nets I hope they enjoy picking at 8 in a weak ass draft if I'm the 76ers I'm not helping that trash franchise by giving them the 3rd overall pick for another Tobias Harris.

  6. Hell no stop trying to get these has been players I don't want those players let's start like Oklahoma and started with fresh young players

  7. With that new stadium coming soon,I'd keep the pick,EMBIID & P.G won't be here so why would you trade the pick,Morey will get fired 🔥for trading It #76ERS 🏀🏀🏀🏀

  8. Unless you're a 100% sure Joel will be back to his M.V.P self it makes 0 sense to trade our future for a win now player just to have 1st round playoff exit only team that would benefit is the team that's receiving the 3rd overall pick look at all the teams that dominate the Eastern Conference Knicks, Celtics, Cavs, Pacers, all have 6"8 6"9 high level athletic wings & here we are a weak ass organization continuously trying to cut corners & it never works draft Ace Bailey & live with the results‼️

  9. D – The Sixers need to draft either Rutgers kids and that’s it. Also, Cam Johnson is nice shooter, but I’m not trading the No.3 and Kelly O. for him.
