Tom Thibodeau on Knicks’ failure to finish off the Celtics in Game 5
Tom just off the bat, what most
disappointed you tonight that we didn’t play for 48
minutes and you know, to start a second
quarter. We didn’t play well, we had a lead and play tough with the lead.
Came out to start. The third didn’t play well there you can’t afford to do that time when they have Jrue Holiday on cat. I mean, how, what ways can you
take advantage of that? And why do you guys do? Well, you could,
you got cornet on the backside coming on a double. And I mean, cat only has two
three-pointers for this whole series. I mean, why do you, why
is he had trouble getting off? Whether they’re staying with
them? They’re, you know, they’re playing small. So,
they’re, they’re up on him and he was in foul trouble. Tama, what did you see from from
from Derek white and in the first quarter that allowed him to kind of? Yeah, he have, you know, you
got, you got space, he great shooter, you know, can’t give him that
type of space. You talked about the way the way
the guys came out at the start of the second third
quarter. I know you had worn this morning
that you kind of expected but the
Celtics were going to bring. Do you kind of feel like there was any let-up of we’re up 31? Well yeah. I don’t you know I knew the type of aggression
that would be involved in this game and so I think you got to understand
that and it’s a battle on every possession. Tom start of the third quarter.
They go on that run, you left your starters in for the first
like eight nine, eight and eight and a half minutes of the
period. Why did you decide to keep rolling with them? And just searching Tama. Oh geez had a few rough
shooting performance in the series. Just just how much
does that impact the offense
when he has quiet nights like that?
Well, I think that, you know, the big thing is we got to get
stops like the first half we scored fine. You know, and you know cat was you know, in foul trouble for a
good chunk of it. And so, So, but we scored 59,
that wasn’t the issue, the issue was the defense. And
then to start the third, we got in a
whole, we’re trying to get on track but you got to get some
stops so you can get into the open floor. And so I thought
that that probably hurt us as well. Tom I’m curious whether I think a lot of fans or just the average person
from outside looks in systems. Not there the way that a team, maybe moves
the ball without a star player there. I’ll find a
minute. Different. Is it just to stay on top of things and to be mindful of while movement,
the way that the team can do that when someone’s not there?
Well, it’s that doesn’t change stylistically. Like, in terms of they have a lot of shooting on
the floor so that that’s going to remain the same. And I think the thing about their team is
there a great defensive team as well. So we have to understand that, you
know, we can’t be slow getting back and you can’t give open open shots
to him. And so we got to be, we got to be tougher on with our
Closeouts and take an air space away, and we got to be better
with our communication get time. You mentioned it a
little bit there. The the issues picking up guys in
transition, especially the threes, they got off in
transition, what you think, lead to that? Yeah. And again,
so I think it’s twofold. I think it’s, you know, the commitment to
Sprint back and then communicate to make sure that we understand what’s going on. And we can’t have any personal
dilemmas. If you missing a shot or it’s
not going well for you all fensively that you’re jogging back, you
know, you got to Sprint bag, you got to communicate and we
got to be matched up. If one guy slow you’re going to give
them an open shop, you can’t do that against this team. It’s on the third quarter, they
took 18, free throws. Where did you think the game got
called differently at all that they’re not. You know, it was one of those
games that we have 40. They had a lot as well, so it’s like it was it was a choppy. Game.
But I think that was also reflective of the aggression. I
you know, I think that you saw Josh’s layup. Yeah. I knew it
was going to be that type of game kind of what that Jalen had five
of his six fouls in the third. Obviously that’s
unique but you started the
fourth wasn’t with that. Just trying to
get a little bit. Yeah well like the game wasn’t like if we
were going to have a chance it was going to be right there.
What disappointed Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau most about the 127-102 loss in Game 5 to the Celtics was the team’s failure to “play 48 minutes.” New York allowed Boston to take control of the game in the third quarter, thanks to an inability to get defensive stops and keep pace offensively. Game 6 will be at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.

Thibs dont adjust for nothing he see the celtics building the lead call timeout and put some newbody in there like shamet or precious i just dont understand his mindset
No doubt in my mind, the Knicks will annihilate the Celtics in game 6 on Friday at the garden! The Knicks were embarrassed today in the second half and they will remember that on the way to victory the next game. Count on it! Celtics are toast on Friday!!!
They definitely winning on Friday night because of all the fans in the Garden and shooting well at their home court rims.
Celtics were on fire, Knicks played sloppy and gave away too many cheap fouls. Not smart

Thibs is so nonchalant about his poor coaching choices. He refused to put Shamet off the bench, Brunson didn't pass the ball to OG many times standing in the corner feet set to knock down shots, They also took Bridges out of the Rotation. Brunson set the tone for that loss. Lack of passing too much dribbling

Turn on thibodaux is one of those coaches that don't like playing this other players and dog is players out. That's the problem that's the way he did in Chicago he act like he don't want to play the other players. And that's what's wrong why would you have other players on your team and you too afraid to plan. This is what was wrong in Chicago. You can't keep playing your players 3040 and 50 minutes it's too much the thing is he loves the dog is players out The starters play too many minutes don't get no rest because he don't have the players to play and he don't want to play other players. If it wasn't for Tom thibodeau Derrick Rose would have never got hurt instead of him taking him out the game when they had won the game already he kept on me in he should have took him out allegedly. This is what's wrong. If you don't have confidence in your other players they have no business playing with the New York Knicks.
They need a power forward with some height falcons score they have players on their team shoots the Fritos Mrs one shot hit the other one this is what's wrong they have too many players that can't shoot free throws they got to go.

He runs them ragged if they're tired they're tired, put somebody else in Jalen brunson can't carry the whole game.
