The number one pick is heading to Dallas. Mavericks sitting at just 3% odds somehow leapfrog from 11th to first overall. It’s Zion to New Orleans all over again. Superstar bolts for the Lakers and his former team gets handed a shiny new lottery prize as consolation. But here’s where it gets really interesting for us. San Antonio’s own pick jumped into the top four, landing at number two. This wasn’t just some minor bump. The Spurs had the highest odds at picks eight and nine. Instead, they’re suddenly holding the most valuable draft asset they’ve had since, well, since they won two years ago. So, what does this mean for Spurs? Giannis does not fit the Spurs youth movement timeline. PLUS trading for Giannis causes salary cap problems for the Spurs in a year or two. Wemby-Castle-Fox are untouchables in trades. Too, the Spurs are not trading R.O.Y. Castle. Listen, Spurs fleeced the Hawks with the Dejounte Murray trade.
