Giannis? Keep No. 2 pick? Spurs’ draft lottery win provides options.

Giannis? Keep No. 2 pick? Spurs’ draft lottery win provides options.

Yeah, I don’t know where to start. I I think there would be zero questions if the Spurs had just got the number one pick. Why didn’t they do that? They got so close. I’m not really pro trade for Giannis. I mean, the main the main issue to me is that team in Oklahoma City. That team is going to be a monster for the next several years. And I think if you use a you use a lot of your capital to bring in Giannis, you make the Spurs a lot better. They’re clearly a Western Conference contender, but I have I fear that you’re spending a lot of capital to play for number two in the West, and you’re still going to have to wait out that Oklahoma City dynasty in the making. And when that’s over, Giannis is past his prime. He’s 35 or something. I would rather build for a window a little after that. And and build build through the draft and um build a team that comes up together. And everything we know about the Spurs is that’s kind of how they they they’ve tend to operate and how they wanted to put this

The NBA draft lottery gods have shined on the Spurs once again.

Armed with the eighth-best odds in Monday’s lottery, the Spurs walked away with the No. 2 overall pick — their third straight year selecting in the top 4.

On the latest episode of the Spurs Insider podcast, columnist Mike Finger and Spurs beat reporters Jeff McDonald and Tom Orsborn break down what landing the No. 2 pick means for San Antonio.

Should the Spurs keep the pick and take a prospect like Dylan Harper — or package it for a shot at a current star like Giannis Antetokounmpo?

  1. That doesn't even make sense… what makes you think that the Thunder will be better than the Spurs if they traded for him… you sound like you dont know much about basketball or the team so please stop! They didn't even think they were going to get in the top 7. You should study the game more before making any more videos!

  2. ginannis is 30 not 35 years. and with him next to wemby …The Thunder or every teams would be afraid about this association. Don't understand your point

  3. Tim Duncan and David Robinson won two chips. Giannis and Wemby are winning 3 chips before Giannis turns 35. 😊

  4. These people that want Giannis have no clue and don’t understand basketball. It’s about having a good bench and role players now and like the video said he makes a point we would give up so much that we won’t have anything and salary cap would be over. Yeah, let’s trade for Giannis and have nothing because that worked out for Brooklyn and Phoenix

Last time a big trade for a player/players that went to the finals and won was Boston in 2007 and they only won one.. stick to your day job Giannis chasers

Ps: we already have the next best thing and that’s Wemby he doesn’t need a Giannas to help him win a title.

  5. I am okay trading for Giannis if and only IF, we can get him on the right price! They can have Castle or Dylan Harper BUT not both! Also, I will only include one of Sochan, Johnson or Vassel. 3 FRP and a few more SRP are the additional. If this offer is not enough, he is clearly not for us! We should not gut our future for Giannis!

  6. Bucks have an interesting situation because Damian Lillard will be out for the 2025-26 season with his injury, has a player option in 2026-27 and is an unrestricted free agent in 2027-28. Bucks also are in desperate need of draft picks. Best scenario for San Antonio Spurs is to work out a sign and trade with De'Aaron Fox, who is on his last year before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2026-27, to Bucks so that the Bucks will have a PG for next year. Throw in Harrison Barnes and a bunch of picks, including #14 pick and future picks, that the Bucks need for Giannis and Tyler Smith. This trade is successful via the NBA trade machine. This way, Spurs don't have to gut their roster and still stay relatively young. Starting lineup would be Castle, Vassell, Sohan, Giannis, and Wemby. Gut most of the bench but keep Keldon Johnson, Riley Minix, Julian Champagnie, Sandro Mamukelashviki, and Harrison Ingram. Sign Kai Sotto to grow the Spurs fanbase worldwide and have an additional Big. Keep the 2nd pick and take Harper to play PG and see if Bucks will settle for #14 and future picks. If not, look for trade options with Suns for Kevin Durant or Celtics for Kristaps Porzingis or just wait until next year.
