🚨Miami Heat Mock Draft REACTION: Heat Land TOP NBA Draft Prospects In 2025 NBA Mock Drafts
[Music] The 2025 NBA draft is almost a month away as the first round is on June 25th and the Heat have a pick in the first round courtesy of the Golden State Warriors. And on today’s show, we are going to look at every single mock draft that came out after the lottery on Monday night on May 12th to see what prospects could be in Miami’s range. what experts are thinking. Remember, the Heat had the 20th pick, as I mentioned, via the Golden State Warriors, that Jimmy Butler trade. They did not have a lottery pick after they made the playoffs after being in the NBA playin. And there is still some good prospects that will be on the board for Miami at pick 20, at least in my opinion, that could impact the Heat this season as well as be building blocks for the future if they ultimately keep the pick. So, let’s talk about some of these potential prospects. And we’re going to look at five different players from five different mockdrafts. And I’ll tell you what, folks, not often do you look at five mockdrafts and all five of them from probably the most wellrespected mockdraft people in the business. And they have different players for the Miami Heat. Leam McNeely from Yukon from ESPN. Noah Penda from France from Yahoo. The Ringer had a Will Riley. The Guard from Illinois. Bleacher Report had Ben Sarah the guard from Israel and then no ceilings NBA had Asa Newuel the forward/c center from Georgia and in a second I’m going to go through my ranking of these players on which player I would like the most on the Heat compared to the least likely out of these five mock draft players and talk about them more in depth. But make sure you are subscribed and make sure you join the notification gang here because we’re dropping daily content on the Heat around the draft trade rumors and more. So, if you never want to miss a piece of Miami Heat news and content, hit that sub button and make sure you have those notifications turned on. If I’m going to be honest, and I’ll talk more about it at the end of today’s show, but when I look at these five players that had been mocked to the Heat, I’m not that thrilled with them if I’m going to be honest. And I know it’s crazy to say that, but they are just probably these five players not in my like top five. Not one of them. And that’s a little disappointing. Like I think of guys like Rasher Fleming, Nick Clifford, Thomas Sorber, Leberon Phylon, Tahad Pedifford. Like those five guys I wouldn’t solidify in my top five right now, but they’re certainly higher than the five names that we’re talking about today and in most of these mock drafts. The five names that I mentioned were still on the board in those mocks. So it’s a little bit of an interesting conversation to be had with why they were not picked to Miami and these five players we’re talking about were. But the number one play out of the five that goes to the Heat that I would have on my big board probably the highest is Asa Newuel the forward center from Georgia. This one’s coming from No Ceilings NBA. And quick little brief scouting report on Asa. He’s an athletic big. He plays both sides of the floor extremely well. Averaged about 15 points a game for the Bulldogs last season. Has versatility on the defensive end. The one thing about Asa is is he going to be able to improve his jumper? He showed flashes of being able to do that which gives him the ability to play the four or being a little bit of a floor spacing five. But his foot speed, his jumping, it is intriguing as an option to be in that young front court rotation behind Bameabio and KL Wear. And he measured in at the NBA combine this week at 69 barefoot. So, that probably tells you he’s 610 and change, 6’11 with shoes on, which is how most of these players uh look on the court anyway. But decent wingspan, nothing crazy. So, he’s got a plus two wingspan. He’s got good weight to him. So, it’s not like he’s a thin, frail guy that if the Heat drafted him like last year with KL Wear, we’d be saying, “Oh, he’s got to put on weight.” No, Asa can hold his own due to his frame and physicality. and he had an okay season for the Bulldogs last year. Like I mentioned, 15 points a game, seven rebounds. He started off the year extremely well. Thought he trailed off a little bit towards the end of the season. Georgia made the tournament, but didn’t really do much. Um, and you see it, he’s able to shoot it a little bit, 29% from beyond the arc, but I wouldn’t say it’s a consistent jumper at this point in his career. Something that he’s definitely going to have to improve on. He’s a good lob threat as well. It’s going to be interesting to see how he ultimately goes in the draft because some people have him as a early 20s, mid20s prospect. Some people think he’s a late lottery guy. Earlier in the season, like I said, before he trailed off at the end of the year, he was getting top 10 buzz where teams in the six to 10 range were consistently picking him in mock drafts. That came back in probably like December, January, early February. So, it’s definitely interesting to see how he slipped a little bit. Other prospects have rose. New though, out of the five players we’re talking about today, would definitely be my top option and would be a really good addition to the Heat front court. All right, name your top guy, though. Like I said, none of these guys would be mine. But who is your top NBA draft target for the Heat as they have the 20th pick? Let me know your thoughts down in the comments section. Doesn’t have to be any of the guys we’re talking about today. It could just be in general. Mine is Rasheir Fleming or Nick Clifford, but let me know yours. All right, let’s move over to number two on the list. That would be Ben Sof, the guard from Israel. That pick was made by Bleacher Report. This is a player that has been linked to Miami in the past. Actually, when they had two first round picks and we did a mock draft reaction from ESPN, they had the Heat taking Derek Queen. That was when they were still having a lottery pick. And then Sarah, who I actually am becoming a fan of. I wouldn’t put him as one of my top guys. I’d rather have Leber and Phylon or Tahad Bedford if I’m talking guards over Sarah. But he’s a player that is very crafty. He’s a good pick and roll ball handler. Hits that roller very nicely. Can whip it across the court. If you see the weak side collapse to defend the roller and hit that corner three guy. He’s a crafty scoreer that knows how to get to his spots in the mid-range. When I watched a little bit of his film, I get reminded of Goran Drakin away. And maybe it’s because they both are lefties who have high arcing jump shots, but I do see the ability to get to that floater game in the pick and roll, the little bump step back 12-footer from the free throw line. Now, the question marks on Sarah mainly go to the athleticism and the defense, and you wonder how he would fit next to hero because of that, but he’s got really good length for a true guard. Right now, the measurements on him are 6’5 with a 67 and a half wingspan. Those are unofficial because we did not see these European and international prospects be at the NBA combine. But Sarif, I like him a lot. I think his three-point shot would continue to improve in the Heat’s developmental system and as he gets stronger and gets better mechanics, but as a young prospects right now, I like Sarah quite a bit. And we know the Heat are certainly looking for a guard. Number three on my list, this one is Liam McNeely, the guard forward from Yukon. This was the ESPN selection uh from Jonathan Gavon and company. And McNeely is a fascinating player because he was a five-star recruit. Played on Montvert Academy last season with Asa Newuel or two years ago in high school, I should say, with Cooper Flag with Derek Queen. It was one of the most loaded high school teams I’ve ever seen. And when you talk about McNeely’s role in the NBA, it’s more of an offball shooter, like a movement guy who kind of struggled shooting off the dribble and off curls last season, but when he has his feet set, he can absolutely knock down shots with the best of them. Certainly a player that would be in consideration for top three or top five pure shooters in the class. Now, the questions with McNeely, he has major concerns about his ability to create for himself and others. Athleticism is a concern as well, but he’s a very good rebounder for his size. And that’s one of the important things that I want to mention. McNeely has got good size on him. Like mention when you get measured at the combine. It’s barefoot. So with shoes on, he’s damn near 68 and 3/4. He could arguably be 69 with shoes and he’s going to continue to grow. He’s still only 19 years of age. He’s got okay wingspan, a plus two, so nothing crazy, but the height is the most intriguing part here because he does have a little bit of a handle. He was forced to be an onball creator a little bit for the Huskies last season, which I will say is not his role. Like he should not be relied upon to be a creator, but he is nice to know that he has some secondary ball handling abilities that were displayed, but that like I mentioned, I don’t think is the best way to use him at the next level. the best way to use him, and I hate to compare him to like other white dudes in the NBA that can shoot, but like you think about a Cory Kper. You think about even maybe a potential Duncan Robinson who’s a little bit better on the defensive end, a little bit better on the glass. Like that’s kind of where I see McNeely, which is why I’m skeptical of this fit if you’re the Heat and have him third on my board because the talent’s there. Sure. And I see if he’s able to just play offball and benefit from a different onball creator and gravity offensively. Maybe like Tyler Herro could draw, like Bameio could draw. I see how he could be an instant impact guy. But to me, when you’re thinking of what Miami needs, I don’t think that a offball shooter is their number one priority. I will be thinking of athletic wings and creating guards. So, that is what I think for Miami. I do not think that an offball shooter is probably the way Miami should go with their 20th pick if they keep it. But, make sure you do subscribe to the channel because I think we have the number one NBA draft content on the platform around the Miami Heat. I take a lot of time to deep dive, scout these prospects, watch film, create a big board, and analyze how these players would fit on Miami. So, hit that sub button. It is greatly appreciated if you join us. We also put out daily content, so don’t miss out on that. All right, number four out of these five prospects is Noah Penda, the forward from France. This one came from Yahoo and Kevin O’ Conor. And Penda, he’s a fascinating prospect. That is something that I think is a good way to use him because the upside with him is very, very high. But there are a lot of things that give you cause for concern. like the quick little Spark Notes version of Penda. He’s a super long wing who’s a connecting piece. Great playmaking feel. Maybe not for himself, but in the flow of an offense. He knows how to make a quick pass. Knows where to go with the ball in his halfcourt set. He’s got a lot of good things that you like defensively. Versatility is something that comes to mind. Can probably guard one through four. Now he has got an inconsistent shot and boy oh boy does he struggle to finish inside through contact in traffic when people and big men are coming off ball to help. He can’t really dribble inside the paint either. When he gets downhill it’s not pretty. But you talk about something that could be interesting here. That shot it’s very high arcing. It’s got a very high release point which makes it difficult to defend. When I watched it, the first thought I had in terms of his shot form is MueL Bridges. Tough shot to block right there. But we talked about the positive in terms of his size and length. Now, this is not official because he was not at the combine, but 68 with a plus4 wingspan at 7 feet. That’s very good. 225 in weight, also very solid. Like he certainly has to improve his ability to finish inside and become more consistent as a catch and shoot three-point guy, but you talk about an early Haywood Highmith that’s a little bit bigger. Think about that if you’re a Heat fan because he’s got a good feel cutting off ball. He can cut off ball. That’s something he can do. He’s got excellent defensive versatility guarding one through four like Haywood can. and he’s a good playmaker in the half court in terms of making the extra pass like Highmith as well. So, I think he’s early Haywood Highmith with a lot of upside if he’s able to become a more consistent three-point shooter, able to develop a little bit of a handle and to finish inside amongst traffic. So, Noah Penda, there are things to like here, but certainly not someone I’m eyeing for the Heat at number 20. The last player we’re going to talk about today is Will Riley, the guard forward from Illinois. Now, this box draft came in from the ringer, um, who used to have Kevin Oconor, no longer does, but Riley, true freshman from Canada, played with Casper Yakonis last year at Illinois. Now, he’s a versatile guard that can fit in any system. He, like Penda, is very good off ball. Now, I don’t know if he is able to take people off the dribble. The shooting is a little bit of a question, but he is certainly a good playmaker and an offball creator as well. He knows when to cut to either draw in a different defender or to find himself a hole in the defense to catch one on the baseline. Or if Bam on an example, if a big man like Bam had the ball in the short corner or in the post and they sent a double, he knows when to cut and timely to hit that. and then be able to scoop it home with the right hand. Certainly needs to add weight because he’s a little bit frail, 185 and change. But you look at his measurements, 68 and a quarter without shoes. So he’s about 69 and a half, 610 with shoes on. And this is a guy that plays two, plays the three. Um certainly can’t play the four due to his frailness, but definitely is a two or three at the next level. Wingspan’s a little bit of a concern because it’s not long, but he did a lot of nice things at Illinois last year. Was it the most like, hey, I really want to take this guy in the first round type of year? No. And I would probably lean other way areas and prospects, which is why I have him last on my list of players here. But I certainly am fascinated by Will Riley. I think he could be good in the NBA. I just don’t know if it’s a player that the Heat should be going after with the 20th pick. And listen, the truth is these prospects are fine. I like them, but there’s just other players that I like more. And I kind of rattled off some names off the top of my head at the top of the show. I’d rather have Lear Leberon Filin from Alabama. I’d rather have Tahad Pedford from Auburn. I’d rather have Rasher Fleming from St. Joe’s. I’d rather have Thomas Sorber from Georgetown. I’d rather have Nick Clifford from Colorado State. Now, are all five of those guys going to be on the board at 20? No. But I would be willing to bet three of those five are like Sorberg really could be could be there. Nick could be there. Was sure could be like all five of them. If they were there, it wouldn’t shock me. And I have been on record saying if Rashir Fleming’s there, I’m taking them every single time. And if Nick Clifford is there and Rashir is not, then Nick Clifford’s the pick every time. and then we could start to have a conversation of who’s there and who’s not. Um, but I just think that the options Miami has is endless and if they keep this pick, I’m gonna be very excited to see who Pat Riley and Adam Simon ultimately select. Um, a lot of fans want a guard like Walter Clayton, Cam Jones, but I like an all-around uh two-way type of guy, which could be Leberon File, I’m sure Flamming, Nick Clifford, and not going to go too in depth about them more here on today’s show. Ben saraf or demin would be okay
How about Will Riley? But Heat needs a PG that can shoot in Clayton Jr. If Wolf is available go for it. Coward too is very intriguing.
Only players that are reasonable from the roundup are Will Riley and Ben Saraf.
And in all honesty it’s never wise to look at mock drafts for the Miami Heat. NO ONE ever gets it right. Year in and year out, the Heat always go in a completely different direction than public opinion. Everyone’s team intel and whispers are laughably wrong.
Even though I doubt they Heat keep the pick, if theirs deep talent, Heat should trade back and gain more picks
Heat will go with a prospect with the perfect blend of talent (BPA) + upside + team need.
