MASSIVE Cooper Flagg Update – Star Reveals Truth on Joining Dallas | Mavericks News
Earlier this week, everything changed for the Dallas Mavericks organization and fans alike as they won the NBA lottery. A 1.8% chance to even get the number one pick. And it happened for the Mavericks. Not impossible, just improbable. But shortly after the NBA lottery, a lot of people took online to highlight how Cooper Flag looked unhappy with the fact that the Mavericks have the number one pick, that he doesn’t want to be in Dallas. He wants to go back to college. But we did get some reports and some quotes shortly after highlighting exactly how Cooper Flag feels. And this is exactly what fans want to hear. So in this video, we’re going to take a look at what happened on lottery night, what was Cooper Flag’s reaction, and what was actually said by him and his team. But how’s it going everybody? My name is Marcel Martin. This is Mavericks Digest, bringing you the latest news on everything Mavericks related. And before we get started with today’s video, we’re currently sitting at 20,690 subscribers. It’s the off seasonason, but it’s not my off seasonason. We’re bringing you content at least every other day, if not every day, following everything Mavericks related between now and the start of next season. And if you don’t want to miss a single thing that we do, make sure you subscribe. But this past Monday was the NBA lottery, and unless you were living under a rock, I’ll give you a quick recap. The Dallas Mavericks had a 1.8% chance of getting the number one overall pick. We had the best odds of getting the 11th pick. But if for whatever reason we didn’t make the bottom four, we were going to be in the top four. Things were going crazy. Adam Silver was pulling strings behind the scene to make sure Dallas didn’t get screwed even more after what happened in February. But it was announced or it was proven that the the Mavericks have won the 2025 NBA draft lottery. Dallas had a 1.8% odds to win the number one pick entering today. And there you have it. For those that may have just woke up from a coma, yes, we trade away Luca Donic, but a few months later, we have the number one pick and it has been it has been announced from Patrick Dumont himself that we are not trading that pick. That pick will be used to draft Cooper flag and he will be that cornerstone just just player that franchise player for the Mavericks for the foreseeable future. And a lot of people are happy. We even found that Jason Kidd wasn’t even watching the lottery as he also believed that our bad luck would just continue. But the bad luck did end. The basketball god smiled on Dallas and we were gifted the number one pick, but a lot of people took to Twitter to highlight that Cooper Flag didn’t look that happy that he didn’t look excited that Mavericks that that the Dallas Mavericks have that pick and that they’re going to select him. If we take a look right here, uh, this person tweeted out saying, “Wim’s reaction to the Spurs getting the getting the number one pick versus Cooper Flag seeing the Mavs get the number one pick. He’s going back to Duke.” Well, I’m going to tell you right now, he’s not going back to college. He he had to forego his college eligibility. He’s going to be in the draft. He’s going number one. He’s going to Dallas as long as everything goes the exact way that we want it to go. But I think this is reading a little bit too much into it. Obviously, there were a lot of other teams that had better odds than the Mavericks. The majority of other teams had better odds. He could have gone to Washington. He could have gone to New Orleans, Charlotte, San Antonio, Utah. A lot of the teams had better odds than the Mavericks. So, in that moment in time, I’m sure it was just shock that a team that just made it to the finals the the season prior did have a falling out season this past season. Things were really rough. We were injured. We were sick. Guys just couldn’t stay healthy. We traded away Luca. We fell in the standings. Kyrie’s out for several months. Things look bad for the Mavericks. And also having a 1.8% chance to get the number one pick. Yeah, I’d be shocked too if that team actually won the lottery and they were going to select me. his eyes and his mindset was on on completely different avenue on other teams. But we did get a report and a few quotes from Cooper Flag and the other representatives in his team on exactly how he feels. So all Mavericks fans should be happy. If we take a look at the first quote right here, uh those close to Cooper Flags camp have indicated to CBS Sports that they are thrilled about the Mavericks lottery luck and the prospects of starting his professional career in Dallas. And that is great. First of all, one thing that we have to realize is that Cooper Flag has a leg up on all of his contemporaries and his peers in this upcoming draft. He is going to a team that when healthy is a championship contending team. Regardless of how anybody may feel, this Mavericks team is very, very good. And if you add Cooper Flag, we are just that much better. Not to put too much pressure on him, he could have gone to a team like Utah. You’d have gone to a team like Charlotte where you were asked to shoulder the majority of the workload your rookie year and just take it from there where you’d probably have the first few years failing, not making the playoffs or maybe an early exit. You could have been like Kade Cuttingham in Detroit. Although he finally saw playoff success this year, he lost in the first round. Although it was still a great series, the year prior, the Detroit Pistons had some of the worst the worst record ever in NBA history. Had the worst luck. Had strings of losses, breaking records for losses. That could have been Cooper Flag going to a team that yeah, you’re horrible. You need me, but I can’t do it by myself. He’s going to a team with Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, coached by Jason Kidd. You got Durk somewhere in the organization. Hopefully, he does come back. Hopefully, the team makes amends with Durk. Also, Tyson Chandler and a few other just legendary Mavericks are going to be very, very close to Cooper Flag. He has an amazing start to his career with legendary Hall of Famers around him, future Hall of Famers around him, and he doesn’t have to be the number one option. He doesn’t have to be shouldering the majority of the workload. He has a lot of help around him. But continuing with the string of quotes, Cooper flag on possibly playing with Derrick Lively II, another former Duke player, saying, “That’s definitely something I’m excited about, and I am too.” Obviously, Dererick Lively has been amazing for the Mavericks ever since his rookie year where he helped us make it all the way to the finals. And although last year he did deal with injuries and maybe it wasn’t that good of a secondyear leap for him, there’s a lot to to look forward to when it comes to Derek Lively as well as Cooper Flag. Those are going to be our two young guys for the future. There’s two major things that the Mavericks need to keep in mind. Be able to compete now with Cooper Flag while everybody is still hitting their stride. People are still improving. Guys aren’t too too old and are seeing the backside of their careers. Even though Klay Thompson will be getting another year older, he is still able to provide something to this Mavericks team. But once when the players like Klay Thompson, Kyrie Irving, and Anthony Davis retire, make sure that Cooper Flag doesn’t have a bunch of nobodies on his team. Make sure the young players stay together. Young players like Daniel Gaffford, PJ Washington, Naji Marshall, who’s so so important to this team off the bench, but also Derek Lively. That that young core has to stay together long term so we can compete now and compete later. And to know that Cooper Flag is playing with with Derek Lively and he’s excited for it, that should make fans happy and a little bit more easy knowing that Cooper Flag isn’t going to just pull pull what what the number one pick last year said, “I’m not going to Atlanta. Don’t draft me.” And so he went to Washington. But if we continue with the string of quotes right here, sources told ESPN that Flags camp realized how fortunate he is to land in Dallas. Flag is said to be thrilled by the idea of joining a playoff caliber roster with strong veterans in a team that has a void at the small four position which is very interesting. Again, Cooper Flag not too sure if he knows that PJ now plays the three. But even so, there is somewhat of a void at small forward. I know we have Naji Marshall, we have Caleb Martin, we have guys that can that can fill in that role on any given night, but Cooper Flag would be that full-time bonafide small forward for us. That is his natural position. That’s something that he would excel in, which would also raise even more questions on the future of other players. Where does PJ Washington go? Is he okay with backing up Cooper flag or does he instead back up Anthony Davis who Anthony Davis wants to play the four? As many people point out, PJ plays better at the four. I feel like that’s the more natural fit. You slide in Cooper Flag at the three and everything just falls into place as they come. Everything is just kosher and copesthetic until Kyrie comes back. We make a deep playoff run. Cooper Flag wins finals MVP, rookie of the year. where we win a chip. There’s a parade in Dallas and everything is right in the world. But the m but the main thing the main thing that we have to focus on is that Cooper Flag is excited to come to Dallas. And a lot of people point out that this is just a media trained questions and answers that he’s giving us that it’s not really how he truly feels regardless. It doesn’t matter. He’s saying all the right things to the press. He could be saying the complete opposite, but he’s saying the right things. He’s happy to be coming to Dallas. He’s happy to to be wanted by so many other teams. It was reported just the other day that the Celtics interview Cooper Flag. That doesn’t mean the Celtics are going to get Cooper Flag, but it would be wrong for any contending team to not interview Cooper Flag because if you’re not going to get him, you may want to know about him when you have to play against him. I think that’s very smart. But for the Dallas Mavericks, we are going to get Cooper Flag. He’s he’s excited to be here. Excited to play alongside Kyrie AD Klay Thompson, Derek Lively. Even Jason Kidd is excited about that Duke kid even though he didn’t watch the lottery. It’s going to be a great thing for the Mavericks moving forward. Let me know in the comment section down below. Do you think that Cooper Flag is actually happy to be here or do you think based on his reaction he probably doesn’t want to be here? Let me know what you think in the comment section down below. We could have a conversation about it. But that’s all I got for you guys today. Thank you for watching the video. Make sure to check out our Twitter and Discord links in the description below. And as always, y’all take care. Drink water. Peace.

Glad to finally find a good mavs focus channel
PJ is not a better 4 than AD. PJ is a "modern 4" by today's standards of pushing pace and jacking 3s which makes alout of teams get away with SF and PF playing Center. Which comes with injury risks as well. In which PJ also was getting banged up in the season playing as such. Reason why backup 4 was a priority for the Mavs.
AD is a true 4 and stretch 5 without having to worry about a loss of defense and rebounding. Same injury risk as Lively and Gafford pushing pace with said athleticism but he is a player capable getting 40pts in a half court setting which is great for a playoffs setting. Something Lively and Gafford can't do in the post.
Fire Nico & Kidd trade PJ
Just going to point out, if he didn’t want to come to Dallas, this is what he would also be saying 💅
I think he was just nervous about filling in the Luka void after how the fan base reacted
If you watch any of Flagg’s interviews he is always like that. Very subdued. People just hatein!
He was probably thinking oh damn am i going to get traded by nico after a couple of seasons
Shit is rigged af but at least the mavs are viable again for playoffs
The fans are not going to be happy until Nico is fired.
Lively/gafford
Davis/Washington
Flagg/Marshall
Thomas/Christie
Irving/Williams
Of course Irving is out for a while so it would be nice to get a fill in for now, but from current roster looks like 10 starting quality players for next year so far.
man, i live up in the panhandle now, but you're like the homeboy i'd talk to at the West Transfer Center. Thank you for all the work, man.
I know the mavs traitors feeling dum ass hell right now😂 hahaha #realmffl…
For him to be able to play with kyre ,Ad ,DL and the others Klay can only make him much better he needs to be able to play more than one position
Trade the pick for andrew Nemphard and Benedict Mathurin
Max is not hard enough for this team not a strong dog in the fight!
Cooper: dang, Nico gonna go say he’s out of the Cooper Flagg business, nitpick all my shortcomings and trade me away in the middle of the night when I just put a down payment on a house.
yo whats your dogs name
Bro, the truth is what it is we know he’s excited to come to Dallas. The haters are mad so they do anything they can.
unrelated tidbit: Melvin ajinca averaged 39% from 3 on 4 attemps per game overseas and when you watch the tape alot of that is on movement/constested threes off the dribble/pnr/off ball screen action. He's also a lefty and everyone knows all leftys have an automatic 15% shooting buff at all times 🤣 He can be a very sneaky wing in our back pocket that can potentially play the two spotting up like klay and bringing length and size on defense. no need to rush, he can continue developing as this roster is stacked as it is, but i like melvin ALOT and think we need to keep our eye on him.
Still need to fire Nico, then we’ll all be excited to come back.
Bro your titles are ridiculous. You make it seem like something drastic happened every time you post. 😂
