NBA Live: Denver Nuggets at Oklahoma City Thunder | Game 7- May 18, 2025 LIVE STREAM Live 2K
for you offensively. Now the starting group for the Denver Nuggets at the guard spots will see Westbrook and Murray. The forwards are Porter Jr. and Gordon to his side. And it’s Joic in at the pivot spot manning the middle. Now here’s Gilgis Alexander following the miss by Joic. Gilis Alexander against Porter. Gilis Alexander kicks to Dort. Shot clock at six. Here’s Caruso. Denver grabs the miss. Joic inside defended by Dorch. Last season, Stan, Joic passed LeBron’s alltime triple double mark. And he did it stunningly in 813 fewer games. Yeah. Now, it’s really possible, Kevin, that he’s going to end up of the top of that triple double list by the time his career’s over. He’s got the big O and Westbrook in his sights. You know, don’t sell this guy short. He can do it almost any night. And he knocks down the first one. And looking back, coach, how great was it to see the Nuggets win their first title back in 2023? One of the great NBA stories, Kevin. It was huge. It was a moment years in the making. That championship meant so much to the city of Denver and its fans. And that one goes in two from the line that time. Well, you have to appreciate a big man who can step up to the line and knock it down with confidence. Gilg Alexander kicks to Homegrren. Screen takes it from 10. Shooting foul as the whistle blows. He’ll shoot two free throws. It’s going to be on Joic. And that 7ft frame of home makes him so difficult to guard. The Thunder shooting their first free throws of the game. And they’ve had really good numbers all season from the free throw line. and he makes the first. And something to like about homegr gets set. Congrats him both. We expect nothing less. He’s generally been very good at the line. Pass to Brown. Al Gordon. Denver passing it around. Westbrook up top. Gilgage Alexander covering. pulls up on the elbow. Westbrook no good. Well, if you have the space, you have to take that shot. He missed it, but he’s trying to keep the defense honest. Now, here’s Homegrren. They count on his contributions. Currently providing 16 and 12 points a game. It’s good. And he makes his first shot of the game. And good work inside. SDGA will make more room for himself on the perimeter when he can be effective down low. Westbrook against Gilg Alexander to the inside and he’s fouled pretty hard on that shot, but he’s got the chance to pick up the points at the line. That one on Homegrren. He’ll take his third and fourth free throw shots of the game right here. shooting two. Free throw. Good. Joic. Well, guys, I’ve been around this game for a long time and I’ve never seen someone like Joic. A giant man with point guard skills. That one falls so he hits both of them. We’re just about two minutes into the first quarter and let’s head over to the sideline and catch up with David Aldridge. Thanks. Mark Dagnel and I got a chance to talk for a bit. He thinks they need to focus on speeding up Nicole Joic rather than trying to slow him down. Coach said Joic dominates the game at his own pace, so we need to put more pressure on him and not allow him to play so patiently. Of course, that’s easier said than done. Back to you, Kevin. Thank you, David. And that shot is a confidence builder for Porter Jr. When he’s hitting knees, you know he’s feeling it. out. One more. And here in the first, approaching three minutes played. Left side, Gilas Alexander. Kick it out. Here’s Porter. It’s rebounded by Oklahoma City. Last game against the Nuggets, they lost in the Mile High City. Yeah. And looking back at their last game against this club, they were badly outrebounded. Now, here’s Dor. He gives the team some steady offense. A bit under 10 points a game. Here’s Brown. Defended by Caruso. Pass to Brown to the middle. Yogic draws the double. The shot no good. And they’re one of five to start this game. Just really haven’t gotten into a flow offensively. Gilg Alexander good. And you can see he’s got a little bounce in his step. Three out of four to start. And here’s Westbrook. He’ll bring it up for the Denver Nuggets. They trail by one. And it’s Michael Malone calling timeout here. He wants to check in with his team and regroup. All right, a chance to check out stats for Aaron Wiggins. Brown. The pass to Gordon. Porter against Dort. Pass to Brown and the three ball is good. Well, that’s the part of Porter Jr.’s game that can take him to the next level. And so it’s Oklahoma City with it. Fresh from a win against Portland. I I like their aggressiveness in that one. No one’s going to give you anything. You’ve got to go out and take it. Well, those are the kinds of performances you hope carry over into some momentum for this one. Six to shoot. Homerren sets the screen for Gilg Alexander. Plenty of daylight on that shot. Gilg Alexander’s got nine points. The Nuggets trail outside Gordon. Westbrook with a screen for Gordon. Pass to Brown. On the wing. Gordon. He’s guarded by Williams. Four on the clock. Porter with a screen for Gordon. Takes a three. The Thunder pull it in. Here’s Williams. It’s hauled in by Gordon. Denver’s gone two or three from deep so far in this game. And stolen by Williams. To the inside. Homegrren and the dunk by Homegrren. and attacking the rim. Homer making excellent use of that height inside. Westbrook passes to Joic. Porter with it. Lets the three fly. No good. That’s miss number two. He’s one for three. Pass to Dort now. Here’s Williams outside Dort. Here’s Gil. Oh wow. Oh, what a great move inside. That is incredible. Oh, now that hurts the defense there. Stylish move by SGA. Nice angle on that replay with the AT&T 5G slam camp. The Nuggets trail by five. Here’s Westbrook. He has yet to score. And off the front iron and in it goes. Just so versatile. I mean, Westbrook can go to the hole, bring it back out for three, or in that case, just rise and fire from mid-range. Now, here’s Homegrren. Last game, we saw him score 14. Elk grabs the miss and not allowing the shooter even an inch of breathing room on that one. There’s no air space there whatsoever. That’s as close as you can get without foul. Jordan against Porter at the elbow. It’s Gordon. Porter passes to Brown. Here’s Joic. And the rejection by Hungren. Already set the summer league record for blocks in his first game. Hungren one of the best young shot blockers in the league. This is as good as it gets for a first quarter in terms of shooting the basketball. And it’s Michael Malone calling timeout here. And coach has decided they need a moment to talk things over. Hallelujah. The Nuggets making a switch here. Pickets checked in with the bars in the action. Let’s bring you the list of teams that have been lighting it up over the last 10 games. The Thunder in fourth. Yeah, what an impressive run for this club. Everybody seems to be in a rhythm in terms of scoring and they are putting up some big numbers. The Nuggets trail by six. Pass to Joic. Shoots over Homegrren and he gets that one to go off the front iron. Joic has got six. Joic has every shot. And here is Gilis Alexander. He picked up 33 points in their last win against Portland. And he did a lot of work on the glass as well. He impacted the game on multiple fronts and he’s starting to show that killer instinct this quarter looking to extend the lead. They get basses to Gordon now. Porter. The Nuggets moving the ball around. Pass to Gordon. And here’s Joic. quarter outside and Homer pulls it down. Homer’s got his fifth rebound right now in the game. They’ve been beating them to a lot of those loose balls and rebounds here to start. Now here’s Porter. Really played well against Phoenix in his last outing. He’s looking for Gordon and finds him. Takes the alley pass and dunks it down. Well, when Gordon’s team makes it this easy for him, of course he’s going to throw it down hard. coming for it. Williams has a screen for Gilg Alexander. Really left alone that he’s got 15. Well, he’s had it going offensively helping them build this lead. Stan, when you were faced with back-to- back games, did that factor into your game planning at all? Not really, Kevin. I mean, it factored into what we did in preparation. You know, practice the day before the back-to back set, but I was a one game at a time guy, and whatever it took to win that night was what we were going to do. And then we’d worry about the second game when that one was over. The Nuggets trail by seven. Gordon with a screen on Wallace. Pass to Joic. Outside Gordon. Here’s Brown. Covered by Joe. Watson kicks to Gordon. Just five to shoot. Here’s Joic and the layup falls. Joic has got eight points. And there’s a pattern starting to take shape here. They’re working it inside and getting good shots from close range. With a short break in the action gives us a chance now to send it over to David Aldridge. Kevin, thank you. Jaylen Williams is a do-it- all dynamo for the Thunder. Coach Mark Dagnalt said, “We’ve crossmatched him onto centers. He’ll shift him to a point guard. It’s hard to explain how impactful that is for you. You have a great offensive player that you’re also moving all over the lineup.” Kevin Da the versatility that is pretty special. Here’s Frother following the score by Oklahoma City. Blue Nuggets need to get a shot off here. Here’s Joic. Got a piece of it and they force the shot clock violation. Great D. A different look for Denver. Charich has checked in for Joic and it’s Michael Porter in for Aaron Gordon. Now Williams, he picked up 18 points in their last win against Portland. And foul on the shot. He’ll shoot two at the free throw line. And you don’t ever want to get into the habit of letting the offense get to the rim. The Thunder have yet to miss from the free throw line. They’re three for three. And that one falls for Williams. And Williams drops them both. Well, the Nuggets trail by nine. Here’s nothing on the board. Tries it from nine. That one goes in. And how about capitalizing there in close. Sarich has the touch to take advantage from just about anywhere. Now here’s Williams. Pass to Wiggins. Back to Williams. Wallace outside. Picked by Williams with some arc. Just four to shoot. And again, no good by Oklahoma City. Nuggets have gotten seven of their first 16 field goal attempts to go down here in the first. Inside and the Thunder pushing it up now. pushing it up and it’s Wiggins missing and it’s Porter with the ball for the Denver Nuggets. Seven-point differential. They come into this having outplayed Phoenix the last game in that one. They owned the backboards. Most of the second chance opportunities went to them. Well, watching the film, I thought they did a great job playing with energy. shooting two. The first free throw is good. Shay Gilis Alexander checked in for Jaylen Williams. That one is no good. The Thunder lead by six. We’ve got 118 left in the first. Wiggins sets a screen for Gilg Alexander and the three off target. I’m shocked that didn’t turn into three points. I mean, he makes you pay on those nearly every time. And let’s take a look now at some stats for Gil Alexander. Since the All-Star break, he’s been unstoppable. He’s putting up 29 points a game, eight assists, and seven rebounds. And he has been passing the ball like a virtuoso. That’s what really stands out about these recent performances. Well, this staff loves coaching him and his teammates love playing with him. He’s just an unselfish guy who makes everyone around him better. He’s off on the first And the second free throw good. 104 left in the first quarter. An easy two points on the layup. Gilg Alexander’s got 17 now. Well, his offense is carrying them right now. And even with the defense keying on him, he’s making great adjustments on the fly. Oh, that’s straight TNT, baby. Explosive. That was pretty. And he just has that effortless neck for getting inside. Down low. Here’s Hartenstein. And the dunk by Hartenstein. The D just kind of stepping aside and letting him get to the rim. There’s a reason, GA, the lead is what it is right now. Well, that’s too easy. As he says, let me add to my highlight reel. Now, here’s Porter. He’s been a reliable scoreer for him as he’s averaging up over 13 points a game. Just five on the clock. Fires the three, sinks the triple. Porter’s got a pair of threes now in the first quarter for the Nuggets. Well, year in and year out, Porter is so consistent from three. Come to me. Come to me. Pick it up. Pick it up. Outside. Gilis Alexander lets it fly. What a play. He simply drains it in at the buzzer. One eye on the rim, one eye on the clock. Nice job. Well, it’s good to have a player on the floor with that kind of awareness. He recognized the situation. And so it’s the Oklahoma City Thunder. With their lead standing at six points here at the end of the quarter, they’ve set the tone. They love their tempo. They’re going to be very tough to stop. And we’ll be back with you shortly. And if you’re just joining us, we’ve played through one quarter in this one. And for the Thunder guys, what stands out to you so far? Well, they used the fast break to generate some easy buckets before the defense could get set. Yeah, they’ve dictated the pace to this point, looking to run at every opportunity. Oklahoma City leading by six on the floor for Denver as we get going here in the second quarter sharing the wing spots. It’ll be Brown and Porter Jr. Dario Charich is out there with DeAndre Jordan and it’s Drawther in at point guard. And this is SGA’s role. He he’s out here to score and score often. There’s the screen. Here’s Trother off target from outside. Oklahoma City shooting an incredible 64% from the field in this game. Low block shot on the way. That’s good from Wallace on the assist from Gilas Alexander. Another good play. This is how they built the lead. Calling on the right guys at the right time. Yeah, come on. They’re just having their way out there and continuing to press the advantage. Here’s Porter and it’s Blunt. Wallace outside pass to Gilg Alexander and the dunk by Gilg Alexander. And watch out for SGA going to the basket. He will put it on your head if you’re not watching. Knocked loose and it’s out of bounds. The Nuggets able to retain possession here. Let’s quickly take a look at the standings out west. The season nearly complete. Taking a look at Oklahoma City right now. They’ve acquired the second best record in the conference. And of course, the Nuggets two spots down. And you know, for the Nuggets, it looks at this point like they will not enjoy homec court advantage in the postseason. That was a spot that a lot of people had them penciled into at one point. Hey yo, and off the left side of the rim and it swirls in for him. Oklahoma City leading by 10. Outside, Gilis Alexander driving the lane. Count it. Gilas Alexander’s got 25 points in the game. And he knew the contact was coming. How about that by SGA to take the hit and finish to the paint. Gil just Alexander with the steel. It’s Joe on the wing. He’s covered by Westbrook and contact on the shot. So, he’ll be shooting free throws here. Greg, you look at the great coaches. What are one or two of the most important qualities for success that you see? Well, for me, Kevin, I think you got to be able to adapt tactically. I mean, that’s huge and especially in the playoffs. But most important, can can you motivate and unify a locker room? That leadership quality is what really puts a coach over the top. That’s good from Gilas Alexander. Nearly automatic. Gilas Alexander. No slouch from the line. Big rebound. Got to get it. Big rebound. Big rebound. Let’s get it. Get Gilgis Alexander hits them both. The Nuggets trail by 14. Here’s Brown. An 11-point game for him in the win against Phoenix. Yep, that one goes. And this team encourages Westbrook to look to score inside. You can see why with these results. They set the screen and the call is going to be Yes. Yes. It is an illegal screen. And guys, point of emphasis for the league is to really crack down on illegal screens. Yeah. And yet we still see it a lot. It’s a tough thing to police. And the replay demonstrating once again how aggressive that defense was. And this is how you protect and grow a lead by making a huge effort on that end of the floor. What’s in the screen and the rebound goes to the Thunder and they’ve only got a slight edge on the boards, but it just feels a lot bigger. Gilas Alexander finds Wallace. Back to Gilas Alexander. Clock at six. Hardenstein with a screen on Westbrook. It’s Gilis Alexander with the drive. Hartinstein and a great assist by Gilgis Alexander as that one goes in. Yeah, they’re going to have a nice little run here. And Westbrook will bring it up for Denver. They trail by 14. And it’s Michael Malone calling timeout here. Looking for a breather and maybe just one or two things to talk about. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. And the Thunder with some changes. Homegrren. He’s checked in for Aaron Wiggins. And it’s Alex Caruso in for Kase Wallace. And Denver with a change here, too. Swather’s checked in. Pass to Westbrook. Here’s Porter. That’s good. And so Westbrook comes up with the assist. Eight points for Michael Porter. Well, he’s a guy you have to watch anywhere on the floor. Porter Jr. does have that mid-range ability. Gilas Alexander against Westbrook. And that one good. Gilis Alexander’s got the lead up to 14 now for Oklahoma City. Denver’s gone three of seven tonight from three-point territory. Inside, here’s Watson. It’s rebounded by Oklahoma City. Homegrren’s got six rebounds here tonight. Here’s Caruso and he drops in the layup off the glass and the Thunder lead by 16. And this has been a great job of just getting into the middle of that defense and really scoring effectively from the paint. Now here’s Westbrook. He’s coming off a 10-point game against Phoenix. Here’s Gilis Alexander up and in on the layup. Gilis Alexander’s got 31. They’re getting on a roll inside. Their last three field goals have come from the paint. Woo! Pass to Strawther. Porter in the corner and the three off target. Well, so far he hasn’t had the same luck from deep in this quarter. Takes a step back. This league stand is so deep with Talon. Are there any players who you think get overlooked in the conversation? That’s a great question, Kevin. I mean, there are some guys who I think get underrated because they play with other guys who are so talented and draw the attention. One guy that I have really seen lately that I think has been better than people think is Grayson Allen. The best three-point shooter or one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA and a very underrated defender. And he’s evolving, isn’t he? looks like he’s working on other parts of his game, but he’s always been able to shoot, which has been his calling card. And he’s a much more athletic guy than people give him credit for. Denver making a switch here. Jordan’s checked in. He hits the second from the line and he’s showing a little more aggressiveness getting himself to the line here in the second quarter. Pass to Westbrook. Can they get it? And oh boy, a lot of contact there, but he gets the call and will shoot two. And one thing about Westbrook, he does not have a quiet presence. You know, he’s out there at every moment and his production speaks volumes. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. And the first one drops. He hits one then misses the second attempt from the free throw line. And they’ve got a big lead not just on the scoreboard but really in the rebounding numbers as well. Hartenstein passes to Homegrren. Oklahoma City moving it around. Here’s Gilgis Alexander. Denver grabs the miss. Watson, the vast desic to the middle and finished off by Westbrook. And there’s the ferociousness. Got to enjoy Westbrook taking flight and slamming it down there with authority. Now here’s Gilis Alexander. 32 points in the game. Pass to Homegrren. That three off the mark. And the great shooters know when they’ve got enough opening to go for the three. I didn’t think it was a bad choice on that possession. Gil Alexander with the steel. Here’s Homegrren. And the dunk by Homegrren. You want a high percentage take offensively? Get it to Homegrren in that spot. The Nuggets trail by 18. Pass to Charge. Homegrren with the steal. Oh, and a fast break for Oklahoma City all alone. And the dunk by Homegrren and his competitiveness showing through. That’s an aggressive finish. Yeah, and getting out in transition allows for some easy points before that defense is fully set. Now, here’s Westbrook. Nine points in the game so far. Connects from three-point range. Well, he’s been able to find points, just not enough of them. They’ve got to string together some more buckets. And Mark Dagnel calls timeout. He wants to regroup and go over the strategy. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Kaylen Williams has checked in for the Thunder. Dort comes in for Isaiah Joe. The Nuggets also changing it up. Joic, he’s checked in for DeAndre Jordan. And Christian Brown subbed in for Porter. And so it’s Oklahoma City with it. They led the game at one point by 20. Westbrook against Gilg Alexander. Homegrren kicks to Williams. Down to five on the shot clock. Back to Homegrren. And the dunk by Homegrren. I mean, sneaky when he moves around the floor. Homegrown takes you out of the play, slips past, and just rolls to the hoop. Now, here’s Westbrook. 12 points for him. Good work there as it goes. And they’ve repeatedly probed inside in the first half, guys, and and it’s paid off. Come get it. Come get it. Williams looking over the floor down low and the dunk by Kilus Alexander. And once he gets clear off the screen, there is no stopping him. No, not when there’s a flush waiting to happen. Well, give credit to the screener there. That’s how you help free up your teammates. Now, here’s Joic. Eight points for him. And with the success they’ve had rebounding the basketball, they’re right where you’d expect them to be, firmly in the driver’s seat. Caruso kicks to Williams. Homerren sets the screen for Williams and it’s slammed in by Williams. And for a power forward, he can sure get up. I mean, because of that leaping ability, it kind of offsets his height disadvantage. Here’s Brown. He’s got five. And there’s the foul. It will go on Alex Caruso. That’s his first foul. Here’s Shich. A 14-point game for him in the win against Phoenix. And he did a lot of work on the glass as well. He impacted the game on multiple fronts. Six on the shot clock. Westbrook fires away from outside. And fantastic at playing within himself on defense. Gilas Alexander using his length well there to contest without fouling. Homegrren the pass to Caruso. Williams sends a screen for Caruso. Off target with his three. And here’s Charich. He’ll bring it up for the Nuggets to the inside. Here’s Joic. And Joic slams it in. Yeah, he’s not exactly a highlight reel dunker, but you love to see Joic throw it down. 21st pick in the 2022 draft, Christian Brown, who won a title with Denver during his rookie year. And their coach, Michael Malone, used him in certain situations and he flourished. Well, you know, Kevin, he won a college championship the year before. This guy’s played in a lot of high pressure games, and that is what has given Michael Malone the confidence to go with him. He was ready for those moments. Ready indeed. Isaiah Joe, he’s checked in for Oklahoma City. The Nuggets also changing it up. Aaron Gordon, he’s checking in for Charich. And it’s Michael Porter in for Peyton Watson. Just a heroic scoring effort from him this quarter. He’s doing everything he can to will them back into this game. Here’s Williams following the basket by Russell Westbrook. And that one’s good. Caruso. Caruso’s got four points now in the quarter. And we’re seeing some great ball movement out of this group, guys. Here’s Westbrook. Good for his eighth field goal. He’s attempted a dozen shots. And really the scoring this quarter has been just off the charts. Doing all he can to bring him back outside. Williams inside. Homegrren can’t hit. And and typically he has the touch to finish when he’s in tight, but not sure on that possession. Porter against Dort. Porter passes to Joic over Williams. Joic, no good. Well, that’s a miss you can live with. I expect they’ll go to it again, especially if the defense continues to concede it outside Williams. Back to Joe. Good. And it’s Williams who picks up the assist. Williams has got five assists in the game. And Matador defense, that’s one of the easiest shots he is ever going to see. An unorganized defense like that is not going to help them close this deficit. Out of nowhere, Gordon just soaring in there and that athleticism carries him straight to the hoop. Caruso bounce pass. Dort against Porter. Dort passes to Homer. Here’s Caruso. Drills the three-pointer. Caruso’s got seven points in the game. Well, after a silent first quarter, this is who they needed him to be. This is why you never count a guy out. Here’s Westbrook and a wideopen look for Porter. Hits the three-point bomb. And a smooth shooting stroke off the catch. Porter clearly excels in those situations. 3 seconds separate the shot clock and game clock. Here’s Williams. And that one’s good. His second basket of four, shooting 50%. And not a great start for him in the first, but he’s quickly starting to turn it around. To the paint. Here’s Joic. Not going to go that time. A dominating first half of basketball and so far hasn’t been close. It’s the Thunder up 19 and we’ll be back with you right after this. They couldn’t shut down the lane. Only thing that would stop that is prime check. Maybe two of me. Now that is a scary sight. Two of you. Well, we’re going to need a bigger fridge, Ernie. All right, fellas. Let’s now take a look at what’s to come on the upcoming schedule. And for that match up with the Timberwolves, they have to be feeling pretty confident. Good teams win the games they’re supposed to. We’ll find out how good they are. You And that’s all for us. Now it’s time to send it back to Kevin Harland for the beginning of the third quarter. And with a big gap on the scoreboard, the second half begins with very different goals for these teams. One side trying to mount a comeback, one side trying to protect their lead. You know, Shay Gilis Alexander has been exceptional here tonight, guys. The burst he’s had when going at the rim has been fantastic. A lot of strong finishes through two quarters. Well, when you’ve got a player with the energy and athleticism he has, it can make for a big night when he gets it going. And so here is Oklahoma City. In the back court, we’ll see Gilis Alexander and Caruso. The post bear form will be Williams and Homegrren. And it’s Dort in at the three, the small forward. And that’s who Mark Dagnold starts the second half with shot clock at six. Here’s Gilas Alexander. Banked in off the glass. Gilas Alexander’s got the first bucket of the third here for the Thunder. And defensively they are on their heels every time the ball comes inside. Gordon with a screen on Gilis Alexander. And that’ll be two free throws coming up. Officials on the call with the foul. And we’re seeing some big paydays for NBA head coaches these days. Stan, uh, do you miss it? Do I miss the paychecks? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Payday was always really good in the NBA. No question about that. What about though? What about now? Well, it’s gone through the roof, but look, the tradeoff is the paydays are big, but there’s not a great deal of job security. Captain, the first one falls on. He’s off on the second. The Thunder leading by 20. Two free throws coming up and they call the shooting foul. This is the 2K leaderboard with a rundown of the NBA’s top defenders down low. The league’s leaders in rejections this month. Second Chad Homegrren. And guys, as the month has unfolded, his interior defense has gotten better and better. That’s good from Williams. that misses. So he splits the free throws. The Nuggets trail by 21. Now here’s Joic. Pass to Westbrook. Joic sets the screen for Westbrook. Kept alive. The kick out to Porter. Back to Joic. And Homegrren pulls it down. Homegrren’s got rebound number 12 now. Tenacity on the glass. Caruso with the ball. He has seven. Here’s Williams. And it’s Williams throwing it down. Offensively, defensively, they are in total control. Absolutely. They’re playing their game and executing at a real high level. Everything is working for them right now. Here’s Brown. Five points in the game. Gordon against Williams. Gordon. The pass to Brown. And here’s Westbrook from the arc. And it’s out of bounds. Last touch by Gordon. And taking a look at some numbers for Jaylen Williams this last month. He’s been positively spectacular. He’s putting up about 20 points per game, six rebounds, and five assists. And the phrase stats don’t lie. Absolutely applies here. He’s been a monster on the court for this team. Yeah, look, he is truly the kind of player you build everything around your plays, your lineups. It’s all about setting this guy up for success. Homegrren with a screen on Gordon. Williams kicks to Homegrren. Elbow shot is on the way. He hits the back iron and sinks the shot. 12 points for Chad Homegrren. Three for three and that’s always a good way to start the second half. Here’s Westbrook and two free throws coming up. Unable to get that one to go with all the contact. That one on Gilis Alexander. The absolute fearlessness. It’s why we love Westbrook. Just getting after it and drawing the contact. This is his third trip to the free throw line. First free throw is good. and Russell Westbrook drops them both. Not quite two and a half minutes played here in the second half. Outside Williams pass to Homer. Misses the three. Well, after three straight makes, that’s their first miss of the half. Joic lands soft on the front of the rim and drops. Joic has got 12 in the game. And that time, Joic having the play created for him and he obliges with the bucket. Back to Gilas Alexander. Right on the bucket. Gilas Alexander’s got 38 points. Yeah, they’ve come out of the break confidently. Four of their first five here to start the second half. And we have a timeout called by Michael Malone. He’s going to have a discussion here on the sideline. Come on. Over there. And now a quick review at the numbers for Jookic. Second and assist. And not many players convert opportunities inside as well as he. Top 15 in field goal percentage. And going back to him being second in assist, it’s his ability to control the pace of the game, his peripheral vision that makes him such a great floor leader. Gilg Alexander against Westbrook. Pass to Gordon over Williams and it’s off the back rim. No good. And this is turning into a slow start here in the second half. Seems like they left that offense in the locker room. Denver’s gone 0 of2 from deep to start things here in the second half. Greg, seems like we always talk about Shay Gilis Alexander’s offensive side, but when it comes to deflections and steals, his defense, he he’s one of the best. Yeah, his two-way ability is sometimes overlooked in the mainstream media, but people in the know how good of a defender he is. And the Thunder with the possession here. Denver getting their last shot to go. Five to shoot. Williams against Gordon. Misses the three. And he used the pump fake well there, but he couldn’t capitalize. And here’s Westbrook. 21 points in the game. Pass to Gordon. And the rebound goes to the Thunder. Williams has got his fourth rebound in this one. And that one clearly a foul. Gets the whistle and two shots coming up. And let’s get your take, guys, in the hustle stats for the Thunder. Well, the defense hasn’t done nearly a good enough job of getting back in transition and they’ve taken advantage racking up fast break points against them. And you also have to applaud how they’ve been able to create turnovers and then convert those on the offensive end. And he makes the first and Williams drops them both. Greg, every year we have the best teammate award. What are some of those qualities that you admire in a great teammate? You know, Kevin, you want guys who make you better and who make it fun to come to work every day? In the end, teammates are like family. So, trust, commitment, and just enjoying being with one another. It matters. And they need his offense right now. But his shot is just not falling. Down low. It’s tipped. Caruso with the steel. And a lot of contact on that one. So he’ll shoot two here. I like when Dort takes initiative because he’s capable of compromising defenders on the drive. Elbow two. First trip to the free throw line for him in this one. And to this point on the season, guys, 80% from the line. He’s done a really good job. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. Free throw. Good. Dort. Who needs the NBA draft? I mean, Dort worked his way onto the team into the rotation and then turns into a key contributor. And Oklahoma City making a change here. Arinstein’s checked in. He doesn’t get the second one. Nuggets have gone just 25% from the field here in the second half. They’re two of eight. And Joic gets it to go. The assist from Porter. Joic has got 14. And they’ve had assists now on their last three baskets. Pass to Caruso. Back to Gilas Alexander and it’s in there. Well, he’s been nothing short of fantastic this game and he has his team in a great spot as this thing winds down. Joic with a screen on Gilas Alexander. Westbrook passes to Gordon. Shoots over Homegrren. Gordon kicks to Westbrook. Back to Gordon. Just five on the clock. Porter dishes to Gordon. This one for three. Gilis Alexander pulls it in. And here’s Gilis Alexander. He’ll bring it up for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Dort against Porter. Here’s Gilis Alexander. Now we see the league’s top assist team since All-Star. They’ve been displaying some great teamwork. The Nuggets number one. Clearly, this group’s on the same page offensively and and the chemistry continues to improve as well. The assist totals off the charts, two shots and he knocks down the first one. Jaylen Williams is checked in for the Thunder. Gilgis Alexander hits them both. Here’s still yet to score. Pass to Gordon. shoots over Homegrren and misses it off the right side of the rim. Yeah, I’m not sure if he’s going to be able to shoot his way out of this one or not. It’s time now to hear from our Hall of Fame reporter, David Aldridge. What’s the latest, David? Kevin, thanks. A move that likely helped the league’s parody has been shortening max contract lengths. Commissioner Silver says, “We used to refer to it as dead money, a star player toward those end years sitting on the bench. We’ve reduced max contracts to five years and in some cases six. This way it moves to more pay for performance. Kevin, I think DA that’s a pretty good business decision. It’s going to have nice ramifications. And that one’s good. Strawther. Well, hey, you give him some daylight, he can knock it down. Gilg Alexander passes to Williams. And that one’s good. Gilis Alexander. Gilg Alexander’s got 44. Denver’s gone into a slump here from three-point range, shooting just one of five here in the third. Gordon with no one around. Another three for Denver. Yeah, there’s six points on consecutive three balls. They’re finding holes now in the deep. Pass to Homegrren. Williams with the ball. outside. Gil Alexander. Clock at six. Count that one. Gilg Alexander’s got 12 points here in the second half. And when the score is as lopsided as it is, and you can see they smell blood in the water. My man is going for the jug here. Now here’s Joic. He’s got 14. That one goes. Count it. Joic has got 16. Man, he’s having quite the quarter converting at a really high percentage. Gilis Alexander kicks to Homegrren. Back to Gilis Alexander, the 17-footer. And there’s another one for the Thunder. Oh, it’s scary because he’s just been a matchup nightmare in this game. He’s eating up anybody they’ve thrown at him. Pass to Watson. The Nuggets moving the ball around. Here’s Joic and Homer pulls it down. The Thunder have gone eight of 12 from the field since the beginning of the third. Williams outside. It’s hauled in by Gordon. Gordon’s got seven rebounds in the game. No doubt it’s been a bit of a struggle for him here in this quarter in terms of scoring. Well, he’s a bit of an undersized center. However, his leaping ability can certainly mask that. And Mark Dagnold calls timeout. He wants to talk to his guys. A different look for Oklahoma City. Wiggins comes in for Homegrren and it’s Isaiah Joe in for Alex Caruso. Charich has checked in for the Nuggets. And so here is Oklahoma City. Gilgis Alexander looking around. Here he goes. And the dunk by Gilg Alexander and a threelevel score that time SGA takes it all the way. Sweet move and the layup by Char. Charge has got five and not relying at all on the three-point shot. Uh they may want to rethink about stretching the defense a bit like they did in that first half. Now here’s Wiggins. He has yet to score. And it’s Wiggins with the jam. Chemistry at its best. An unreal alley. Yeah, though. You’re right. The pass, the catch, the dunk, all of it perfect. Here’s a look at his stats. He averages a bit over eight points a game. Charich outside. Oh, good with the triple and close to making the defense pay for the lack coverage that time outside. Williams pass to Gilis Alexander. Six on the shot clock and he’s fouled pretty hard on that shot, but he’s got the chance to pick up the points at the line. It’s going to be on Charich. It’s his first trip to the line and at 78% he’s been a consistent shooter at the line for them all season long. Shooting two. And the first one at the line is good. DeAndre Jordan’s checked in for the Nuggets. No good on the second. So he hits one of two guys. Nothing is really come easy for him today. Yeah, definitely not their best basketball. There we go. Porter passes to Charich over Wiggins again. The miss by Charich. Oklahoma City has gotten blank from three-point land so far in the third. Still 0 for three. Hardenstein with the screen for Gilg Alexander. And the dunk by Hartinstein. Oh, that’s too smooth. I mean, Gil just Alexander with some clever playmaking there to the middle. It’s deflected. It’s stolen by Hartinstein. Joe Good. Joe’s got six points. And I think that play sort of sums up what we’ve seen tonight. Just simply being outplayed both sides of the ball. Smart basketball defensively turning into easy points. Here’s Strawther left side Jaric. And that one is good. Seven points in the game. Well, that’s a smart play taking advantage of the mismatch in close outside. Gilgis Alexander and they call an illegal screen here and not the most common call you’ll see in the NBA, but hard to argue that pick wasn’t illegal. Yeah, and that’s maybe something that should be called more. We see a lot of moving screens in today’s NBA. If it’s not here, now here’s Porter covered by Joe. 3 seconds left. It’s deflected. Shay Gilis Alexander, guys, has been on display for the Thunder. What an amazing quarter. There was absolutely no stopping him. We’ll get you back to the action after this break. And there may not be a lot of drama down the stretch as we head into the fourth quarter, but stranger things have happened. So on the floor for Denver, Daario Charich is out there with DeAndre Jordan. Then it’s Michael Porter. Then there’s Russell Westbrook. And it’s Watson in at the small forward. Their ability again to stretch the floor, particularly in this second half. Yeah. And where has the defense been? They’ve been content to let them fire away. They’ve got to close out to the ark. And here is Gilgis Alexander after Michael Porter made the last three-pointer. Another bucket. Wow. And he’s up to 52 points. Yeah. Making a GA look all too easy right now. Westbrook passes to Jordan. It’s rebounded by Hartinstein. Oh, you you’ve got to be able to deliver when you get a bunny like that. That’s just too easy of a shot to miss. Pass to Wallace. Here’s Hartinstein outside. Gilgis Alexander. Hartinstein with a screen on Jaric. Clock at four. And the dunk by Hartinstein. It’s those kind of passes that bring up the entire team’s confidence. Charich outside. And here’s Westbrook. Gilg Alexander covering. Westbrook kicks to Porter. They get it again. Jordan and DeAndre Jordan throws it down. One thing never changes in the NBA. Jordan will always be there among the top offensive rebounders in the league. Now here’s Gilis Alexander and he drives in and he could not get that one to go. A lot of contact and he’ll go to the line for two. Well, Stan, I know you made the transition from college to the NBA as a coach and were successful, but how hard is that transition for the players to go from college to the pros? It’s an incredible transition, Kevin, in college. Let’s think about it. The very best teams may have may have two or three NBA caliber players. You know how many NBA players are on NBA teams? 15 of them. I know it. And the pace of the game, everything happens faster. So, all of your reads and decisions have to happen faster. That’s what I think takes the time more than the skills themselves. Christian Brown’s checked in for the Nuggets. Denver’s gone one and two from three-point range here in the fourth. Over to the wing. Here’s Westbrook. And the rebound paying off as they pick up two on the second chance bucket right there. Such a dynamic scoreer. When Westbrook gets rolling like this, he’s nearly impossible to contain outside. Gil Alexander over Westbrook and good. Got the English that time as it falls. 56 points for Shay Gil Alexander. Pass to Porter. fades away. Resbrook no good. Look, that’s an ill advised shot there. He thought he had a look, but the defense said no way. Here’s Gilis Alex. Good. That’s another bucket. And what a night. Arguably the best in franchise history. Tying the franchise mark for most points in a game. The next basket breaks it. Charge. A screen on Gilis Alexander from 12 ft out. Westbrook missing again. Well, when you get that kind of look inside, you have to capitalize. And the Thunder making a change here. Caruso’s checked in. The Thunder have gone a perfect four of four to start the final quarter. Can’t ask for anything more than that. Joe finds Caruso. outside Gilgis Alexander. So Greg, you played the point uh in create a player. If you had to pick a different position to play, which would it be? Oo, good question, Kevin. Probably a small forward wing. I’d like to be a fearsome finisher who can soar and dunk over everybody. Two shots. Rebound. First one falls for him. Wallace has checked in for Alex Caruso. And Denver also making a switch. Gordon’s checked in for DeAndre Jordan. Both good from the line that time and so Westbrook will bring it up for the Denver Nuggets. Out of bounds, Oklahoma City takes possession. Well, look, plays like that are exactly why they find themselves in such a deep hole. Well, if you’re just tuning in, welcome. We’ve got about three and a half minutes gone here in the fourth quarter. Now, here’s Wallace. He’s guarded closely. Westbrook against Gilis Alexander. Six to shoot. Hits it again. Wow, that’s 62 points. 62. Amazing. A remarkable performance from him so far. Gordon outside. It’s rebounded by Oklahoma City. Hartinstein’s got nine rebounds now tonight. They’ve shown some strength in the paint today. Their work on the boards has been impressive. Denver’s gone one and three from outside the ark since we’ve reached the fourth quarter. And that one’s good by Porter. And making it look easy even with aggressive coverage. Porter Jr. finds a way to score. Wallace the pass to Gilis Alexander and he uses the glass on the layup. And that bucket adds to what has been a big difference in points in the paint between the two teams. Outside Gordon for three. Burries the long range jumper. Well, he’s not an elite three-point shooter, but Gordon makes just enough threes to be a threat from out there. Wallace outside. Joe finds Gilis Alexander. Hartinstein with the screen for Gilis Alexander. And they come right back with their own three-pointer. Matching baskets from the perimeter. An earmark of today’s game. Yeah, sometimes you get in a shootout like this, but you just hope that you can get a stop first. Here’s Brown Shar with the screen for Westbrook. Good D by Gilas Alexander. Yeah, and they’re fighting to get back in this one, but unfortunately he just keeps coming up empty. Denver grabs the miss outside. Westbrook to the paint. Hey, Coach Van Gundy, what advice would you give to the teams that are rebuilding around their young players? Well, generally, Kevin, what I would say is get some veteran leadership, some veteran presence on your team also, so that you have guys that can show the young guys what professionalism is and help them in their adjustment to the NBA. Yeah. Getting the right kind of veteran, right, with the right kind of message. That’s a great point. Just having an older guy is not the answer. Here’s Gordon after the made shot from Shay Gilis Alexander over Wiggins. The kick out to Westbrook. Another miss by Westbrook. Well, and after making just one triple going into the break, he’s still looking for his first make from distance here in the second half. Now Wallace screen by Hartinstein. Jacks up a three. Wallace misses. And even without that three ball dropping for him, the defense should have done more on that last play. And it’s good for two. What a difference a half can make. As much as he struggled in the first two quarters, he certainly made up for it with his play in the second half. Now here’s Gilis Alexander. And good. He hits it again. 71 points and no end in sight. Young fella is in the zone. The defense right now looks helpless. Pass to Westbrook. Stan, you always emphasize defense. What do you make of the offensive surge in the NBA today? Well, Kevin, look. Skill level is the best it’s ever been. Shooting range is incredible, which makes defenses have to defend more and more of the court. Rules and officiating favor the offense. It’s never been harder to defend in the NBA. It sure looks that way. You’re right. Here’s Joe. He can’t get that one to fall. Gordon with the defensive effort. Gil Alexander against Westbrook. Pass to Gordon. There’s Porter with the three. That’s good. It’s his seventh made basket in 14 tries. Just sensational form and touch on display from Porter. When he gets any room to shoot from deep, he’s looking to fire. Now here’s Wiggins. Hardenstein with a screen on Westbrook and the dunk by Hartinstein. And that’s a double double for him now. 10 points and 10 rebounds. Man, can you always depend on him or what to lead you to the right place with that pass? Money. Lob pass to Gordon and then Gordon with the dunk. And how about the communication between teammates on that alley. And that’s what you need to pull that thing off. Here’s Wallace. Well, Stan, the NBA awards impact so much on these players and what they think they can acquire and achieve. How do you feel about the structure of award voting? Well, right now, Kevin, there’s about a hundred panelists that that each get a vote, and that seems like as good approach as any. Certainly, I need to be on that panel. And, you know, I I I mean, I think we’d probably get more worthy award winners if they would just let me pick them myself. But, you know, they make your picks public and a lot of times, uh, voters are uncomfortable with that. Yeah, that doesn’t really bother me. I uh I I’m used to people disagreeing with me anyway. I have a family, Kevin. And every miss finds its way to his hands. What an impressive performance. Yeah, he’s been a beast on the glass. A monster night for him. Now, here’s Gilas Alexander and another one falls. Amazing. and he’s now tied for the fourth most points in an NBA game all time. He is knocking down everything. It’s truly one of the greatest games in league history. He cannot miss. 73. What a number tying Wil and David Thompson. Only Wilton Kobe have more in a single game. Well, Gordon’s a guy who will force you to get up in his face and commit a foul. That free throw no good. And the NBA helping establishmies and even leagues, Greg, on foreign soil. Do you expect more to come? I do, Kevin. I I think the league recognizes it has a big role to play in the expansion of the game globally. Investments being made with the long-term view in mind. Catching up on the changes for Oklahoma City. Williams comes in for Isaiah Joe and Topic is subbed in for Wallace. And that’s a situation where you must make them all to get back into the game. And one team is just completely outclassing the other tonight. Spirited performance and it really ignited what is turning out to be a monster win here for Oklahoma City. Well, the one thing that jumps out in this game is the free throw shooting, which they did a much better job at. Absolutely. A big plus and often times your performance at the line can be the difference in a game. And I think tonight we saw that and this will make it 31 victories for them on the year. And this victory will draw them even in the season series as it comes to a close and we watched one guy all night long guys and looking at the stats just confirms what a dominant game he had. What a night it was for Shay Gilis Alexander. A big part of their success was his ability to keep the ball moving, finding guys when they would flash open. catching up on the changes for Oklahoma City. Jang, he’s checked in for Williams and it’s Isaiah Joe in for Topic. Pass to Brown. Outside Porter, left side. Westbrook knocks it loose. And a bit of a battle here for the ball. The official signals a jump ball here. Gordon dishes to Westbrook. Just three to shoot. Fires the three. It’s rebounded by Hartinstein. And Gilg Alexander’s got the ball here for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Hartinstein with the screen for Gilis Alexander down low. Hartinstein against Joic. Free throw line jump shot. The shots good from Gilis Alexander. And it’s just competing, you know, giving your best when it matters most. Yeah, they’ve got clutch guys on this team and they never let up. So, no problem for Oklahoma City as they get the win. It was a tale of two teams tonight. one that was in total control, operating flawlessly, and the other just searching for answers that they could never find. I mean, the energy here is just so tremendous. Fans involved from the get-go, and once they started to really pour it on, it was fun to see that rhythm and flow from their perspective. Well folks, that’s going to do it for now with Stan Van Gundy, Greg Anthony, and David Aldridge. This is Kevin Harland saying thanks for watching folks on 2K Sports. And now our player of the game, Sheay Gilgis Alexander.
