  1. You don't pass on Dylan Harper falling into your lap. I think people fail to recognize how valuable having a player on a Rookie contract is.

  2. Nope, the Spurs can't afford to pass on a sensational talent like Dylan Harper. Draft him with the #2 pick and call it a day. We can address all the other needs that the roster has with our other draft picks and in free agency. We don't need to overthink this, besides Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper is the next best player in this draft. Draft Harper.

  3. Bowie was picked over MJ because of HEIGHT, you cant teach that. MJ didnt become "MJ" until yeas into his career. Spurs are in the business of winning championships, not "superstar making". We build a team around Victor, spurs are great at adding pieces. They dont do what "logic dictates" or whatever espn says we should

  4. Brooklyn won't keep all those picks, they are a team thinking about a quick turn around. SPURS can get Harper, and still swing on upside at 14… Then they can send Brooklyn a future pick plus Malaki or Blake to move up for A center they like. And still get a second round pick for G league and salary saver. Myopinion To Front Office …alien in the mask 👽

  5. Its an interesting discussion. I agree we need size and I would really like to draft Maluach. But not drafting Harper at 2 I think we will regret for a decade. If someone wants to overpay for 2, then possibly make the trade. To beat the Thunder we will need superstars. I would take Mobley or JJJ for the 2nd pick.

  6. The Spurs is a lucky team to be able to draft three years in a row in the top4. And some people are proposing to trade back a 2nd overall pick in a very loaded draft class with talents ??
Fortunately Brian and the Spurs' management are not dumb !!!

Dylan Harper is by far the best available player (Dallas will never pass on Flagg who is by far a better prospect than Harper). Go check the videos of Rutgers, Duke and Baylor and you will see by yourself…

A 14th pick is also a very valuable asset and this draft is loaded with so many talents than it would definitely be a shame to trade this pick for future assets (we are not in the same case of last year).
The Spurs shoudn't spend this valuable asset on a backup for Wemby as a very good backup vet center (more than 30 years old) can be easily found at the free agency for less than a tax-payer mid-level exception (7.5M$ per year).
With the 14th pick, the Spurs should draft an off-ball player with size, good defense and good 3-point shooting at the SF (more a priority) or PF spots (Carter Bryant, Rasheer Fleming, Will Riley, Cedric Coward who impressed at the combine,…). This player could immediately take the spot of the second unit.

It seems that Maxime Raynaud, the stretching 5 from Stanford, impressed a lot at the NBA Combine. I now highly doubt that our 38th pick will be suffisant to draft him. The Pacers with the 23th pick or Boston with the 28th or 32th pick could be very interested to draft him to backup their own starting stretching 5.
Could we package our 38th pick with two 2026 second round picks (we have 4 and I doubt that we will draft tons of new rookies in the next two/three years !!) to move up late in the first round ? in order to be sure to draft Maxime.
He is very interesting to be the Wemby's backup because, as a stretching 5 himself, the Spurs would be able to keep the same systems with Wemby on the bench !!

And let's bring a starting 3&D PF at the free agency or through a trade… We have assets for this !! Naz Reid, Guershon Yabusélé, John Collins, Cam Johnson,…
Keldon Johnson with a salary of 17.5M$ and Branham and/or Wesley as salary fillers (5M$ each) should be enough to get this profile on the market.

  7. We actually can easily turn over HALF this Spurs roster by next season.

Certain goners: Biyombo, Jordan McLaughlin, Bassey.

Probable goners: CP3, either Malaki or Wesley (or both), Mamu.

Up in the air end-of-bench/two-way guys: Ingram, Duke Jr, Minix.

Maybe should be traded for upgrade at another position: Devin or Keldon.

There’s plenty of room to draft this 14th pick for a swing on a big wing or 5. With guys like Cedric Coward and Carter Bryant creeping up, someone in the top 10 is going to fall — maybe Queen, Maluach, Kaspras, Egor.

  8. You should offer the second, Castle and about half your pick stash to the Mavs for their first and PJ or Gafford..

  9. People really need to understand how good Dylan Harper is.

Anybody who has watched these prospects for years wouldn't even think about picking somebody else or trading down unless it's ridiculous overpay.

If you think that Castle is special, you'll absolutely love Harper.

  10. HOW ABOUT THIS TRADE SCENARIO: JAZZ GET 2ND OVERALL PICK; SPURS GET 5TH AND 21ST PICK, 1ST VIA JAZZ IN '27 (UNPROTECTED), 1ST VIA SUNS IN '31 (UNPROTECTED)
    5TH PICK: K. MALUACH C ; 14TH PICK: C. BRYANT SF/SG, 21ST PICK: YAXEL LENDEBERG PF, 38TH PICK: DRAKE POWELL SG
STARTERS: FOX, VASSELL, BARNES, SOCHAN, WEMBY
BENCH: PAUL (FA), CASTLE, CHAMPAIGNE, LENDEBERG (R), ADAMS OR LOPEZ (FA)
DEPTH: WESLEY, BRAHNAM, POWELL (R), BRYANT (R), MALUACH (R)
I CAN SEE BRAHNAM AND JOHNSON GETTING TRADED FOR ANOTHER BALL HANDLER OR BACK UP CENTER OR DRAFT CAPITAL

  11. You get back up good back up at 14 or 2nd round
Harper is big guard off engine most this kind prospects this kind profile is definitely no.1 pick in any draft we don't have this kind talent
    Fox ultra quick guard
Castle is point attack def big physical combo guard that play good play connection cutting/off ball
Harper off engine like is better version cade in rookie year better player maker passer vision
Having 3quality playmaker can advantage you play fast phase specialy if fox in line up you get him easy fastbreak points run every time you get reb you one rest one them while 2playing. Try get at 14 pick a 3d wing or rim runner center

  12. Don't sleep on Maluach. Can I get a hot take on whether our Spurs are building a team around Wemby are we just building a small ball team with Wemby playing defense? I think the small ball era is going to be dead IF the Spurs can find the formula to win championships with a BIG line up of stretch 3s, 4s and 5s. The small ball era only worked because Golden State had the best shooter ever in Steph and a top 10 shooter all-time with Klay in his prime. Analytics say 3s are better than 2s and with Wemby the Spurs can change the game. Everyone and anyone who picks up a basketball today better learn to make threes because I believe that's where the league is heading and the Spurs can be that Golden State team of what I'm going to call the BIG BALL ERA in the NBA . This draft is going to tell us a lot of how our Spurs are constructing the roster. Are we going to stay small, as the past draft picks have shown and positionless guards. Or are we going to take a bold new approach and trade down to get Maluach and form a BIG stretch team of big tall shooting positionless front court players? At 14 Asa Newell and Fleming are capable big stretch 3 point shooters. I say, SAN ANTONIO SPURS, LET'S CHANGE THE GAME AND BLOW THE LEAGUE AWAY WITH THE BIG BALL ERA!!! Wemby has the talent to lead the NBA into a new era of NBA ball. GO, SPURS, GO!!!

  13. I hear you, Rich. From the perspective of wanting to get to the playoffs NEXT season, the front office needs to focus on the lineups that give us the best chance. And yeah, picking Harper and trading down may be a smart way to do it. Or, picking Harper and trading for a veteran player at their peak.

  14. I don't really get why Spurs should definitely draft Harper. For what I see Ace Baley would be a better fit. Unless we trade back with Utah and get a shooter with the 5th pick (Tre Johnson) and also we get Walker Kessler. That would be a good return.

  15. Why trade down if we could trade up our 14th? Why not go all in this draft to get maluach compare to going all in on a trade?

  16. … I saw that video were he was making threes at the NBA combine…it wouldn't surprise me if the spurs draft khaman maluach he was my pick if we stayed at 8 or kon knuepple…we got wemby fox castle so who ever they draft it's good with me…but Dylan Harper is the only right choice if cooper flagg isn't there…

  17. Shooting 3s during a drill with no defense is nothing like shooting 3s in an actual game. During practice drills, any good 3 point shooter is hitting it about 75-80% of the time and the real good ones are 90% . Hitting 50% in practice means you'll be shooting 25% or less in a game. Just giving you some context.

  18. Picking for fit over talent has a nasty track record, seems to me better to get the best talent and adjust later

  19. draft dylan at 2. cp3 won't be back so he'll be the replacement.. draft fleming/bryant at 14. drraft maxime reynaud/ thiero at 38..

  20. How many teams have been crucified picking fit over BA when picking in the Top lottery? Wiseman was a complete disaster for GSW not a few season ago and the Spurs are not dumb to pick anyone over Harper at #2 not named Flagg.
