MAJOR changes incoming… This has HUGE implications on the Orlando Magic

There are major changes coming in for the Orlando Magic organization and this could have potentially huge implications for this organization. Guys, welcome in to Magic Digest. We know if you’ve been here before that this team needs shooting. There potentially needs to be a fundamental change whether or not that is players on the roster or the coaching staff. And Jeff Welman has blessed us with a little bit of extra talking points as we head into the off season. Guys, as I mentioned, this Magic Digest, this is your onestop shop for Orlando Magic basketball content here on YouTube. I’m your host, Patrick Prevy. And as always, make sure that you guys subscribe to the channel. Only 45% of you guys who are watching these videos are subbed, so make sure that you hit that subscribe button. It is greatly appreciated here. Trying to come out with Orlando Magic content pretty much daily. It’s getting a little bit tougher as the offseason moves on, but make sure that you guys subscribe to that channel. and down below will be the link to uh another channel that covers basketball and other different sports that I’m also a part of. So, make sure to give that a check as well. Okay, so as I mentioned and as we all know, this Orlando Magic basketball team needs shooting. So, the other day, and I’ll link these articles that I get this from, Jeff Welman had mentioned that he was going to potentially be looking at different options over the summer. And we’re talking specifically about the coaching staff. This team does not have a designated shooting coach. That falls under an umbrella. I’ll get to that quote in a minute. But here’s what Jeff Welman said about this shooting issue that the Magic have and how they’re going to potentially approach fixing it. Within the front office, we’ve been talking a lot about this summer. We’ve been having meetings for weeks and months about this summer. Coach and I will sit we’ll visit next week and discuss where we think we can get better. like me, Coach Mo is going to look at himself in the mirror and he’s going to look at our whole situation and try to come up with the best way to get better. Now, big word salad, guys, right there. But we’re going to we’re going to dig a little bit deeper. There were a handful of other things that Jeff Woman also said, and he also was talking to um a member of the Athletic and just kind of really dove into exactly what is going on with this shooting. We all know that this team didn’t had one of the worst shooting pro percentages in the last decade of the NBA. And Welman went on to say that they were going to have to address the way that this team and is built and potentially something along the lines of getting a designated shooting coach or somebody with more of an offensive mind to help Jamal Mosley bring these younger guys along. He went on beyond that initial quote and also mentioned, and just as I said, for our team, nothing’s off the table, so I don’t really know. and that’s in response to potentially making a bigger trade. That is something that we have talked about on this channel. Obviously, that is from the player perspective. So, I’ll move on from that, but it’s definitely something and to note and good context for the rest of this. He also mentioned we have a skills development coach as I, you know, told you guys just a second ago. Here, I’m going to pull up the uh coaching staff that this team has right now. I did highlight uh coach Brett. He is technically or would be the shot doctor for this team, but as I mentioned, umbrella. We have a skills development coach and shooting is under his umbrella. We had a lot of inconsistencies this year through injuries and different lineups and rotations and you don’t want to tinker too much with player strokes during the season. Unfortunately, Fron seems to have been a part of that. But I digress. We have all the roles associated with a strong player development department including shooting coaches. We just need some time and we need to look at all of these other streams that will make us better shooters. Internal improvement is one of them and we will look for ways to improve all of our processes and all of our development streams, but some of it is internal, a lot of it may be external. That’s the summer work for sure. Okay, a little bit of a word salad at the very end there. He does mention that this team obviously does have shooting coaches. All these coaches are qualified to help the players with their shooting strokes and everything like that. But I think definitely bringing in an offensive mind is something that this that this front office will potentially want to add to this coaching staff as they enter next season and as they try to build up this this team. We know that Jamal Mosley is a defensiveoriented coach and when we have a defensive oriented coach, a defensive identity and our two best players, while I do think Paulo is a very talented shooter, uh, aren’t exactly the sharpshooters that maybe you see on a lot of other teams, this team is clearly going to lack some type of shooting, especially also if it doesn’t come from the role players or from a guy like KCP who they signed in the offseason. So definitely something that I thought was really interesting. And he also goes on to talk a little bit about the win now approach as well as the shot quality that this team had last season and how it potentially changed due to injury. I think we’re ready to kind of walk into the next phase of our team, the next stage of our team. It’s more of a win now philosophy, win now approach. Talked about this before. I definitely think a potential bigger move is is, you know, on the horizon. Maybe that’s three, four different uh other role player additions and re completely reshaping this bench. Or maybe it is a guy who this team tries to fit in their salary cap. We obviously know this team is, you know, under the radar as far as one of those sneaky first apron, second apron approaching teams, but uh they might end up still making that move if the salary cap situation still kind of works in their favor with in that department. He also goes on, like I mentioned, shot quality. Uh the previous season, and he’s talking about 23-24, we were an elite shot quality team. this season, meaning last year, we were all over the board due to our injuries at different points of the season. We were high, we were low, we were literally last when France and Paulo were out of the lineup. And when they came back and our team found its footing the last uh part of the season after the All-Star break for March 1st or so, we were first in the league in shot quality. That was reflected when our three-point shooting bounced from 31% to 35% uh for the last part of the season. When you look at our team, that’s the historical aggregate percentage. We’re a 35% three-point shooting team. Will 35% be able to get you to a finals or an Eastern Conference Finals? I would certainly like to think so. Here are the active uh these are, I guess, aren’t active, but here are last year’s numbers. Obviously, the Orlando Magic were last. They were at 31.8% for the entire season, but 35% would pretty much put you right around the middle of the pack. 34.4% was obviously the Brooklyn Nets, who are the highest on this little graphic right here. But as you get closer to that 34 to 35% range, uh there aren’t as many T there’s there’s not a huge variance, okay? Like the very top is going to be closer to that 34.4% than uh the difference is from 30 to 25. Okay, you guys get the point. The Orlando Magic were a terrible shooting team. I did want to also mention the Orlando Magic when they finished 31.8% from three uh a whole 1.7% worse than 29th place. That is the biggest gap between worst and second worst since 2012 2013 and the second worst three-point percentage in the last decade. Other teams that were pretty close to that were the Lakers who shot 31.7% from three in 2015 2016. Those were the dark days, late Kobe days, you know, when you could barely name any of the players on the roster and what have you. Uh they had the worst shooting percentage in the last decade. So, the Magic just barely escaped that. Uh, and it’s just really unfortunate to be in a conversation with or in the same discussion as teams like the Wizards or the Brooklyn Nets or other teams that there that were clearly lottery teams and didn’t have a very competitive season. So, with everything that uh Waltman has said and everything that we’ve potentially talked about as far as the team needing to be better shooting and there is a need for a shooting coach, I mean, there was like a meme that kind of popped up during this season about how this team felt like they didn’t have a qualified staff to help this team offensively. Uh, with everything being said, it’s time for this team to either look to the draft or potentially to free agency to also bolster their lineup. I want to throw out a couple names before we get out of here. Will Riley from Illinois, Walter Clayton from Florida, Nick Clifford from Colorado State, Liam McKen uh McNeely, excuse me, uh from Yukon, uh there is a Frenchman too that has been mocked to this team and Tahad Pedford from Auburn, but Pedford from Auburn might not actually be entering the draft. So, Nick Clifford, Walter Clayton, uh Jr., Will Riley, uh Liam McNeely probably the most likely guys in this first round, but this team has two picks, so we’ll end up seeing who they end up drafting for that. Let me know what you guys think in the comments section down below. Is a designated shot doctor/shooting coach, not an umbrella kind of position, a guy specifically for this going to be valuable for this team. I definitely think they potentially try to make a move here, but they don’t really seem to have a ton of overhaul. So, uh, conventional wisdom might say otherwise, but I definitely think that this is going to be a priority for this team. But, let me know what you guys think in the comments section down below. Does that help this issue or is this strictly a players thing? I’m interested to hear what you guys think. But, as always, I’m Patrick Gravity. This has been Magic Digest and I’ll see you guys next time with more Orlando Magic basketball content.

  1. We just drafted Tristan who shot 40% in college and then fell out of our rotation when we need shooting. I'm convinced Curry would shoot like 30% on our team.

  2. They could trade KCP Anthony black Cole to Atlanta for Trae young opening the for two more additional players that’s cheaper but can shoot for the bench or the two draft pick can be traded for two proven shooters
