Young MJ’s reaction to Magic winning MVP over him

Young MJ’s reaction to Magic winning MVP over him

Magic Johnson was voted the league’s MVP this year. You were the runner up. Do you have any quarrel with the with the vote? No, not at all. I think that u you know both of us had good years, but you know, sometimes you have to question what is credentials for the MVP. No one really knows. What would you say they are? Uh how valuable you are to your team and to the league itself and what you do to contribute to both of them. Could a case be made for Michael Jordan then being the MVP? Could be a case for both actually. Let’s define exactly what you did. I mean 37 points per game. You took 28 shots a game. You were your team’s offense, weren’t you? I was in in the sense that we had to expand a lot of the other players roles offensively and it took some time for them to do that. You know, I don’t like to lead the league in scoring. I think that stereotype you as a offensive player, but I think that other parts of my game was not acknowledged as well as it should have been to have over 100 blocks and over 100 steals. Also I think you have to be contributing in other areas as well as scoring.

  1. Leading the league in scoring while not wanting to lead the league in the scoring and not only doing it 10 times he's also the CAREER SCORING LEADER!!! Imagine if he wanted to lead the league in scoring! 😂

  2. MJ was not robbed of the MVP IN ‘87. Stop with that nonsense. Magic deserved it as he did in ‘89 and ‘90. Stop hating.

  3. Man Jordans on intelligent man that's the most impressive to me somebody tell Joker in order to be considered the best are top 10 centers you actually have to play defense too

  4. The media was always harsh. You look at articles and interviews from back then, and realize the difference is the abundance. Believe it or not, they would have Killed MJ in the 2010s – for absolutely no reason. That's the negativity we live in. Amazing answers by him, but now it's not a one time interview. It's 4 times a week. But it makes you wonder: why is there such a huge emphasis on media coverage now? Most if us just want to watch the game.

  5. A very young Michael gave a very profound answer to Bryant Gumbel's question.
He pointed out the one-hundred block shots, over one-hundred steals in addition to his scoring ability.
    He is like no other.

  6. Bird should have been the MVP. That year, McHale, Parish, Ainge, and Walton were all hurt throughout the regular season and playoffs and Bird still pulled the Celtics into the NBA Finals. Bird was also hurt but played through it. Jordan did not deserve it because the Bulls had a losing record.

  7. 37 ppg with 28 attempts in that era with big men in the paint and not many threes. Amazing statistic

  8. It was the 1986/87 season. Jordan was the first player since Wilt to score 3,000 points in a a season. No one has done it since. He also had 200 plus steals and 100 plus blocks in that season, more than Michael Cooper who won Defensive Player of the Year.

  9. Jordan was robbed that year. The only thing I can think of is, Magic taking his team to the finals after losing a few role players. They were making up for previous years, when Bird got it 3 years in a row and Magic did deserve it, atleast one of those years.

  10. Lebitch would be crying about how hes the goat and everyone please like me. Meanwhile Michaels main concern was that you didnt just talk about his scoring but his defense and overall contribution

  11. Opposing teams would target magic as the weakest link in the laker defense. Similar to Bird, not a terrible defender but not great and conserved energy for offense.

  12. It's 100 plus blocks and 200 plus steals scoring 37 PPG is truly insane he played a complete game. the next year he averaged 35 PPG on 54 percent shooting once again averaging over 100 blocks and 200 steals. The true ubermensch of the NBA

  13. I can't imagine how much more of an impact he would've made if the internet was available like it I s now.
