This Move Could Make the Spurs a Dynasty Again

We had a bunch of teams jump up like the San Antonio Spurs. They end up with the second pick in this draft. The Spurs are on the upswing to say the least. De’Arren Fox, Victor Wimyama, still going to have Chris Paul. They still have all of their different pieces right now with Sohand and Kell Johnson and uh the year. Yeah. Yeah. Um Castle, one more guy I really like on their team. Gosh, I can’t think of him. Just a second. Deon Velc, that’s who I’m thinking of. Yeah, Castle and Vel. Um, Sam, it’s a really good team. It’s a team on the upswing. No more Greg Papovic. He retired. Rest in peace. We love We love Pop. He’s not dead. He’s not dead. You know what I mean? You know what I mean? He’s moving into the front office. Whatever. Sam, there’s a lot of really good basketball players in this draft. Okay. And obviously, Cooper Flag is the prize. He’s the guy that everybody’s super excited about. There’s seven or eight freshman coming out that are all going to go in the top 10. have lots of potential. It’s an inexact science. We’ll see which one hits, but you look at the draft, mock drafts and everything. Number two pick, it’s supposed to be this Dylan Harper out of Ruters, like a legitimate scoreer, shot maker, a number one pick in a lot of drafts. A lot of drafts. Not as well known as some of these other guys because they did not make the NCAA tournament. We didn’t get to see this guy in March Madness. That’s when most people watch college basketball. Sam, th this dude is absolutely legit though. A 66 point guard out of Ruters, a shot creator, a shot first guy. He should work pretty well with De’aran Fox. I think those two guys would go well. Wimyama, get under the basket a little more, man. I’m tired of watching you shoot threes. That’s really my one critique of Wimi. Um Sam, when you think about the Spurs off season, how do you think this is going to happen for him? Would trade this pick in a very weird way. This is a young team. And what did we say last offseason that we really wanted was just surround Wimi with NBA guys, right? And they got Harrison Barnes and Chris Paul and it was really really good. We were really stoked. Not because of what those guys bring to the team and like on the court, but like just NBA guys that know the game. You have De’aran Fox. You have a really really good scoring point guard. And yeah, you know what? If if they don’t trade the pick, okay, fair enough. But there are teams that are willing to sell like honest to god like dangle that into the pel in front of the Pelicans and see what you can get out of that. There are guys that I think that you can add to this team right now that put NBA not just guys but like guy guys stars allstars elite role players whatever it may be. You need to start building up your Drew Holiday Devin White type players on this team if you want this to be a championship team. I think trading a pick in a draft like this where you are really kind of set when it comes to young guys. You got a lot of them and you got a lot of one of them that you really like. I think this is a good opportunity to trade the pick. I’m not saying you have to. If they stick and they they you know pick their guy, great decision as well. It it is it is a win-win regardless of what they want to do. If they dangle the pick, they find they don’t see anything they really want on the trade market. Fair enough. Keep it. pick a really really good player that’s gonna help you in the long term and then keep going. But I hear what you’re saying because that was kind of my idea last year of surrounding Wimi with veterans a little bit, making sure he’s learning how to play the right way. I think Chris Paul has done that and I think Chris Paul will be back on this team and I think Chris Paul has made that entire roster grow up a little bit. Whether you’re talking about a Vassel, Kell Johnson, a Jeremy Sohan, I think Chris Paul has rubbed off on a lot of those guys. I don’t think you can pass up a Dylan Harper who projects to be this fantastic shot creator and shot maker because you throw Wimby with Castle and then you have another scorer out there to go along with Fox. That’s a forsome two years from now that is absolutely an NBA title contender. You got to let them grow up together a little bit. They got to figure out the chemistry and everything. The Spurs have said that they don’t want to rush this with Wimpy. They just want to go through their process. They’re not going to try to take shortcuts to try to get a six seed if they’re not actually ready to compete in the NBA playoffs and go for it all. The Spurs have come out and said that multiple times. I’m really glad that they brought in Chris Paul, brought in some veteran leadership to teach this team how to be NBA players, but now it’s time to grow and develop. Keep Chris Paul around. Keep Harrison Barnes around, right? Keep those veterans. Keep everybody learning. But I think at this point it’s around acquiring talent around Wimyama and I’m not passing up on this Dylan Harper guy. I think he’s going to be really really good too. I’m not in a rush to get Wimby a six or a five or six seed. Here’s the thing. I think you can I think you can make a trade that I think you could go in like a name that pops into my head that would make this team disgusting in every single level is Triple J. I think I think they would make that trade and I think you could get a Jaylen Wells in on that or something like that. I think you maybe could get a Scotty Pippen Jr. some you know and then on the back end Luke Canard who’s actually an NBA guy like we like ourselves some Luke Canard. I I think that’s a trade that is real and that does not make them a six seed. I think that puts them really really high up there. That is a long mobile still pretty young team. As much as Chris Paul was good for this team, they need more. They need more. They would be nasty defensively with Triple J. Unbelievable. And I mean, Triple J and De’Arren Fox, I mean, Dear Fox is the is what John Morant wishes he was. I’ll say it right now. Is what everyone wishes Jarant was. if he wasn’t such a a-hole. Dear Fox is perfect for that. I mean, can you imagine a bigger a better like paradise for a point guard like that than Wimi and Triple J? I don’t know. I I could see something like that. I’m not sure why Memphis would move off of Triple J. The type of guys that I were that I was thinking whenever we were thinking about trading the number two pick was like a Herb Jones, like a really really good D3. I was thinking that would be more the price range for the number two pick. Um, but so you went high and I went low. The truth is probably somewhere in between that. Yeah, they could they could probably get a pretty dang nice hall for this number two pick. But I don’t think the Spurs are in a rush. That’s what we’ve heard about the Spurs. They’re not in a rush to make this work right away. Let Wimby grow. Next year they’re going to go get a nine seed and be in the playin and maybe make the playoffs. Then the year after that they’ll be fighting for the six and just kind of let it let it cultivate where it was. What if Sorry, I’m not just thinking. What if the Magic decide that they want something a little more consistent than Jaylen Suggs? I don’t think it’s going to happen. Suggs is going nowhere on Bronze Vagner hasn’t really worked out. I don’t think they’re giving up on those three. Again, a young nucleus like we’re not giving it up. I’m just saying there’s there’s stuff out there that would give me pause if I were San Antonio is kind of my my point of just like I think you could dangle this and you know, maybe a tantalizing player if you really see a guy you want out there. Um, I think you could dangle this and get something fun. I love how both of us are thinking someone defensive, though. Like, let’s just make this sick defense next to Wimi and see what happens. Yeah, I like that. That’s That’s fun.

The Spurs had some good fortune landing the #2 Pick in the draft. What should they do with it? Sam thinks they should trade it. Joe thinks they need to stay young and build it right. The Spurs are in a spot that most rebuilding teams envy. Going to be an interesting offseason for the San Antonio Spurs!
