JUICY Mavericks Rumors On Cooper Flagg & Naji Marshall + Mavs Trade Rumors On O-Max Prosper

We’ll get into all of the latest Mavericks rumors here in just a few moments. But before we do, I want you guys to go down in the comment section right now and name a random Mavericks player. I’m not talking like Dirk Nitzky, Jason Terry, or Tyson Chandler. I’m talking someone like Dominique Jones or Ra Lefrence. Go on down there and name the most random Maverick player you can think of. And let’s get started with today’s show. [Music] You are watching Mavericks today by chat sports. I’m Jeffrey Cooperstein. Appreciate each and every one of you for tuning in to today’s show. No matter where you are or how you’re watching, your presence is greatly appreciated. I wanted to uh talk about a little bit about what Naji Marshall said about Cooper Flag. He went on a podcast. It was about an hourong podcast. It’s pretty interesting. You can go find it on the internet if you haven’t already. But he had some interesting things to say about Cooper Flag. and it kind of got me thinking about Naji’s future with this team. So, let’s first jump into what he said about the imminent number one overall pick. He said, “I love his game, honestly. Like, for real, he’s a winner. I love how he hoops. I love the dog he has. You know, I’m a dog, so that’s really what I’m looking for. He’s a dog, too. So, I’m excited to see him grow to become a star in this league.” And everything I’ve seen around Cooper Flag regarding the Mavericks is positive. Everyone has good things to say about him. I haven’t seen any negatives. uh around Cooper flag, people talking about how if you know his off the court stuff and whatnot. Haven’t heard any of that or seen any of that. So, all of it seems like it’s in a pretty positive uh light right now, which is definitely good considering where the Mavericks are and what they need Cooper Flag to become in order to get them back into contention in the Western Conference. But as far as Naji Marshall goes, I think he can really help this team out going forward. and I thought he had a really solid first season with the Mavericks and he is going to be a bit of a Swiss Army knife. He’s going to play a variety of roles, whether it’s starting or coming off the bench, whether it’s playing primary ball handler or playing primary defender. Naji is going to be used in a variety of ways. And when you look at what he did last season, I thought he had a really solid year, averaging over 13 points, just three assists. But when he did uh play point guard down the stretch, that number certainly went up over 50% from the field. The three-point number can certainly be improved upon, but he did have a streak there where he was shooting really well from three-point land. So hopefully Naji can um continue his improvement on the three-point side of things and he can become a respectable shooter. And if he does that, you’re looking at a 15 plus point a game guy. And I think what you were looking for when you signed Naji Marshall was for him to be an upgrade over Derrick Jones. And while they signed pretty much the exact same deal, I think Derrick Jones got three for 30 and Naji got three for 27 for the Mavs, I do think Naji was a better player than Jones last season and fit more what the Mavericks needed. Jones last year in his first year with the Clippers averaged 10 points. Now, he did shoot 35% from three, which is certainly a better number than what Naji shot, but I thought Naji’s creation on the offensive end, his ability to once the Mavericks got into their offense, his ability to playmake from there was certainly something that the Mavericks valued. And I do think that they ended up making the right decision going with Naji over Derek. And that’s not um a slight on Derrick Jones by any means as he was obviously a key piece in the Mavericks getting to the finals. But if you’re just looking at it in an isolated perspective, I think Naji was the better player. And make no mistake about this, there’s going to be a lot of moving parts this off seasonason on the Mavericks roster. And we’ll talk about some of those here in just a couple of moments. But Naji is going to be one of the guys that I think the Mavs need to try to keep at all costs because of his ability to create within the offense because of his ability to guard either the second best or the best player on the floor if he’s out there. He was reliable for the most part. Now, he had a couple of injuries, but hopefully he those can subside and he can play in most of the games and you can rely on him to play heavy minutes as well. So, if I’m Nico Harrison and I’m looking at sort of potential trades and moves that I’m making this off seasonason, Naji absolutely factors into the equation for next year for the Mavs. And I loved how he played in his first season in Dallas. If you loved how Naji played in his first season in Dallas, go type those 13s down in the com session. Of course, that’s Naji’s jersey number. In just a couple seconds, I’m going to tell you guys about our sponsor of today’s show. And while I’m doing that, go on down there and type your 13s. That link will be in the comments and the description of today’s show. It is prize picks run your game. Is Omax Prosper running out of chances to make his imprint on this Mavericks franchise? I think after a disappointing second season and Cooper Flags imminent arrival as the number one overall pick at Omax’s position, I think he has an uphill battle to continue his tenure with the Dallas Mavericks going forward. his career stats are extremely underwhelming and the Mavericks ob kind of got as sort of a freebie as they kind of they traded down in order to get an extra pick to go get him. Uh in his first season he played in 40 games and averaged just three points and two boards and less than 40% from the field. Obviously it’s very limited playing time and just 8 and a half minutes per game. most of that being in garbage time. And then this year, he played in 52 games, averaged just about four points and two and a half rebounds. And all his numbers went up a little bit, but the three-point percentage did go down. And again, it’s a very limited sample size, but I think it’s a limited sample size because the Mavericks don’t feel comfortable putting out there on the court at any given time, unless the game is pretty much already in hand one way or the other. And I really did have high hopes for Prosper. When the Mavericks originally drafted him and Dererick Lively, I thought was going to be the one that was pro ready over Derrick Lively, it’s clearly been the other way around. And it frankly looks bleak form right now as far as his future with the Mavericks go. And I’m kind of disappointed in how he’s played in the last two seasons. I really hope that I wonder if the Mavericks will put him out there in the summer league for the third straight year and if he can go dominate there and show that he has had show that he’s progressed in his game overall, whether it’s on the offensive end, the defensive end, the playmaking aspect of it. If he showed tangible progression, then maybe the Mavericks can give him a chance there in training camp to try to earn a rotation spot. But as of right now, I don’t see that happening. And if the Mavericks do decline that fourth year player option, which they have to decide on by Halloween, he becomes an unrestricted free agent uh next summer, and it wouldn’t shock me whatsoever if the Mavericks didn’t pick up the option. In fact, I would be surprised if they picked up that option uh for his fourth year. I just think he hasn’t progressed enough to where the Mavericks should feel confident in him about his future, and it’s on him at this point to prove the Mavericks wrong. And I certainly think that in the beginning of this off season especially, you will hear his name come up in trade rumors just given where the Mavericks are at the wing position. And well, I think has an NBA body, has the physicality, has the ability to be a rotation player in this league. He has not shown that yet with Jason Kidd and this Mavericks coaching staff. So, I do think that his days are numbered in Dallas. Whether it be next season or this season being his last, I don’t think he is long for this Mavericks franchise. I want to hear from you guys though. Do you think has played his last game with the Mavericks? If you think he has, type Y for yes. If you think he’s got a little bit longer, type N for no. Let me know what you guys think down there in the comment section. When you look at the wing depth that the Mavericks have, I add a Cooper flag on there assuming he’s going to be that number one overall pick. PJ Washington and OMX have the asterisk because their names are likely going to be heavily circulated in trade rumors. And then we talked about Naji Marshall who I think is going to be a key piece of this thing going forward. And whether or not you think Caleb Martin is a good player and a good fit for this team, he’s going to be a part of it going forward because Nico Harrison believes in Caleb Martin, the defender. And if he’s healthy, I think he will be a part because he can defend a little bit. Got to improve on the three-point shooting. I mean, he had an awful hitch in his shot last season, and he needs to work with the shooting coach to get that fixed. But this team’s really deep at the wing spot, and Prosper certainly has an uphill battle in order to get himself in the rotation. You factor in Cooper Flag, he’s probably going to be playing 33 to 34 minutes a night. Naji is probably playing about 30 minutes. If you have Caleb Martin, he’s probably playing 15 to 20. If you somehow still have PJ Washington on the roster, he’s going to play 25 minutes a night. So that leaves with basically zero minutes to play and most of his minutes will be played down in Frisco with the Texas Legends. So when you see a trade package come up and it has Prosper in it, don’t be surprised and you heard it here first on Mavericks today that he could be on the outs with the Dallas Mavericks. That is going to be it for today’s show, guys. Appreciate you for tuning in to Mavericks Today by Chat Sports. If you haven’t already, hit that subscribe button and don’t forget to name a random Maverick down in the comments. I’m curious to hear what crazy polls you guys have. [Music]

Mavericks rumors as the 2025 NBA Draft is just over a month away still focus on Cooper Flagg and his imminent arrival in Dallas as the NBA’s No. 1 overall pick. Mavs forward Naji Marshall is excited to play with Flagg as is everyone else on the Mavericks roster making Mavs GM Nico Harrison’s decision to select Flagg an easy one. However, Mavs trade rumors on Olivier-Maxence Prosper will certainly circulate during the 2025 NBA offseason, as O-Max has had a disappointing first two seasons after being selected in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft. Will the Mavs move Prosper in a trade this summer?

  1. Brad Davis isn't really that random, but he's the player who got me interested in the Mavericks as a kid.

  2. Trade hardy… dude has not improved any since being drafted… other then knowing what professional ball is

  3. N. O-Max is a good player for the salary cap at the very least. He's the right player for the end of the roster.
