NBA LIVE! Oklahoma City Thunder vs Minnesota Timberwolves GAME 1 LIVE | May 20, 2025 | NBA Playoffs
didn’t allow him to get around him. Forced him to shoot a flatooted shot. Nice fake inside. That number becomes big in a close game. Nick Daniels had some speed and some seen his last couple of buckets. [Applause] Gives it up to Edwards and Edwards nothing but space at the University of Arkansas. He led the NCAA in that category. That reputation is the three-point shot. He was four from downtown last night. Wiggins once again approaching double digits as McDaniels point. One of the few guys that does it like that. That’s a nice move that time. That was a pretty move. SGA off the screen. Fires away in good defensive minds like do they like having to as SG and one Edwards who hasn’t had a lot of spins to maneuvers gets the feet behind the three-point line. Edwards got up top and finally on the third effort Wallace more defense from him. You see him retreat back there on the move right into here and hold on a little early thing. Two guys who’ve been playing together for a while [Applause] [Music] 17 tonight. just continues to [Applause] Edward as Reed on the steps with get to the free throw line. Now you got to play some defense right around Caruso. He lays it up and this one out. McDaniels the option here. The first option will drive on Caruso who commits the foul and McDaniels lays it up and in. He’s going to go to the line to tie this game. This [Music] is Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] N. Heat. Heat. N. [Music] Yeah. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] outside. [Applause] Torch pass to Gilis Alexander goes back up. That’s a bucket. His third of the game. He shot the ball seven times. And a moment here to take a look at some of the hustle stats for the Thunder. Well, so far they’ve done a great job of reading the offense and repeatedly putting themselves in the right place to interrupt the play and force turn. And yet, how about this team also following up their shots, getting those offensive boards also a key to this outside torch over in the corner. Caruso the shots good Alexander making the play. Gilgis Alexander’s got three assists in the game. Timberwolves trail by 10. Connley, the pass to Reed. Back to Conley. Timberwolves piecing it around for three. Edwards and it’s Shay Gilis Alexander with the rebound to the inside. Stolen by [Applause] Reed. Here’s Alexander Walker defended by Caruso. Reed with a screen on Caro. The shot’s good from Alexander Walker. Yeah, field goal percentage above 50 now. Their offense is starting to [Applause] show Alexander against Con. It’s stolen by Go. Now here’s Connley. Not a lot of room. A Thunder pulling in. Caruso looking for an opening. Pass to Gilg Alexander and the call on the shot. It sends in to the line and he’s showing a little more aggressiveness getting himself to the line here in the second quarter. So far he’s hit all of his shots at the foul line going four for four. Taking two shots. That’s good from Gilgus Alexander. No wasted trips at all. They’re taking care of business at the line. A different look for Oklahoma City. He’s checked in for Wiggins. And it’s Williams in for Alex Caruso. Minnesota also making some changes. Julius Randle comes in for Reed and it’s McDaniels in for Nquille Alexander Walker. Just Alexander hits them both and at the line it’s all about consistency with him. His routine, his stroke, it never [Applause] waivers. Dort against Edwards. Shoots over Dort. It’s Ken Homerren with the rebound. Homegrren’s got six rebounds here tonight. Yeah, just a solid job on the backboard. They are really controlling the inside. And now here’s Homer. He’s got 12. Randle with some nice deep. Well, they know he can finish at the rim, but the defense did just enough to force the miss. Go with a screen on Gilus Ellington to the paint and finished off by Goar. Well, that’s why you feed Goar near the rim. He makes the most of those easy opportunities. Gilis Alexander passes to Dort. Gilis Alexander sets the screen for Dort offline with this three. And the great shooters know when they’ve got enough opening to go for the three. I didn’t think it was a bad choice on that possession. Outside Williams pass to Homegrren. Go Bear with the defensive effort. Well, that’s the look he wanted, but the defense doing just enough to impact that shot. [Applause] It’s rebounded by Hartinstein. Hartinstein’s got six rebounds now in the game. Outside Williams now. Hartenstein covered by Connley. And that one is good from Hartinstein. and the Thunder lead by nine. And those are the kind of nice inside looks they’ve gotten here in the first half. We’ve got a timeout called from Chris Finch. He’s made the decision he wants to huddle up with his [Music] guys. That’s right. Everyone Isaiah Joe, he’s checked in for Oklahoma City. Dante Denzo, he’s checked in for the Timberwolves. [Applause] On defense, Oklahoma City, they have a nine-point lead. Conley kicks to McDaniels and stolen by Williams inside. Here’s Joe. It’s good. Great play by Williams to set it up. Joe’s got seven. And they keep hammering away at him inside, forcing the ball into the paint. [Applause] Randall against Homegrren. And here’s Devenenzo from the arc. Bangs home the trifecta. Nine points in the game so far. A fantastic decision making big. Randall with the right choice there. Finding the open man. Joe passes to Homegrren. [Applause] Up top Joe for by Mike Connley. Just five on the clock. Back to Homegrren for three and it’s by Connley with the rebound. Timber’s trail by eight pass to Debenzo. Back to Conley. Randle outside the tray. The Thunder pull it in. Parkinstein’s got seven rebounds in the game. Down low, it’s stolen by [Applause] Randall. And here is Steven Shenzo. And it’s off from three-point [Applause] range. And so it’s Oklahoma City in the driver’s seat up eight points at the end of the quarter. And they’re winning the turnover battle very easily in this one. And we’ll be right back after [Applause] this. When you take care of the boards, usually things turn out well. Unless you’re getting shot out the gym. What’s up? And What an atmosphere in here as we return to the action of the Western Conference Finals. One of the stories here, Jaylen Williams getting it done today. Well, we’ll find out if they were able to find an answer for him over the break. He was scoring with ease in that first half. Yeah, I’d love to see what they drew up in the locker room because you’re right, he’s the problem right [Applause] now. And we’re ready to get back into the action here in game one. Let’s see what this quarter has in store for us. The four and the five, the lengthy pair of Homer and Hardenstein. Kiljis Alexander runs things with Gourd to his top and it’s Williams at the three spot. And that’s who Mark Gagnold starts the second half. Homegrren kicks to Kiljis Alexander and that one clearly a foul. Gets the whistle and two shots coming up and using the defender’s aggression against him. Jesus Alexander with a savvy and this is his second trip to the line in the game. Two shots. Take break. Take break. [Applause] First one falls for. And no matter what, one of the big positives they can take away from this game is how well they’ve performed at the line. rebound and he makes both free throws. Nearly automatic. Gilg Alexander. No slouch from the line. Conlay the pass to Randall. Finds himself wide open and drills it. Randle’s got seven. That pick takes the D totally out of the equation. Yeah, you’ve got to lock and trail hard. You can’t allow him a clean look for And there’s the call on Rudy Go. Rudy go. That’ll be his second foul of the game. [Applause] Stolen by Michael Connley. And now here comes Connley leading the break and finished up by McDaniel. Well, you can’t sleep on McDaniel’s athleticism. If you’re the defense at 6’9, he can absolutely hammer it home. Homegrasander and he makes good on the way. Gilas Alexander’s got four points in the quarter. Terrific play call to give him a clean look at the Red. That’s how you want to start the second half. Yeah, I like how they’re establishing their interior presence right away. That’s going to collapse the defense and create other opportunities like six. Here’s Connley fouled on the shot and picks up two points. So, one free throw coming up. and making three of their first four shots in this half is a strong start. Now it’s about blowing that momentum. And this is his first trip to the line [Music] [Applause] tonight. That’s good from Connley. Well, the leadership and steadiness Mike Connley brings to his team can’t be overstated. A true locker room leader and a vet who sets a great tone out on the floor. Finish off the break. Conley’s got 16 points. Oh wow. Four or five to start the half. Coming out on fire. Williams kicks to Homegrren. Two minutes into the second half of play now. Williams looking around. Second shot opportunity. No good. Shot missing. Randall with some nice deep and so it’s Randle bringing it up now for the Timberwolves. It’s a three-point game. Outside [Applause] Edward, releases rebound by Williams. Williams has got four rebounds now tonight. Floats one. Homegrren rebound. Minnesota. Randle’s got four rebounds now tonight. And with that miss, they’re just one for four to start the third quarter. I don’t know how that one doesn’t go in. Nice cushion between him and the defender. Here’s Hartenstein. And he banks in the layup. Hartinstein’s got his second bucket of the game to go. Can’t be that easy for him. Got to body him up down low. Yeah, they can’t let him even get into that space. If he gets good position on the block, it’s trouble outside. Williams, third quarter action and just under three and a half minutes have gone back and the shot falls short this time. Well, clearly it hasn’t been his best game offensively, but collectively they’ve still found a way to get the [Applause] lead [Applause] against. The Timberwolves need to get a shot off shot. Thunder with the rebound. They led by as many as 18 points. Homer against McDaniel. Homer the pass to Gilis Alexander. Double team on Gilas Alexander. Nobody near Williams. And a great assist by Gilg Alexander as that one goes in. Gil Alexander’s got four assists. Out [Music] pass. Here’s Randall and he buries that one, drilling the rim on the way down. Randle’s got four points in the quarter. Gil Alexander with it. He’s got 16. That’s to Homegrren. Launches it. That one no good. Timber trail by six. Here is Edwards. He’s got [Applause] nine now. Here’s Randall defended by [Applause] Homegrren from the low block. Randall with the bucket. Randle’s got 11 points. The Thunder leading by four. On the wing, Gilas Alexander by Connley. A floater. Gilas Alexander. Good. 18 points for him. Well, he’s a reason why they’re winning right now. He’s been efficient offensively and his confidence continues to grow. Now, here’s Connley. 16 points for [Applause] him. Good D by Doug Alexander for Oklahoma City. They’ve gone a somewhat so far for 10 on their shots in the second half so far. And really as the three-pointers keep dropping, you get the sense that the frustration is mounting for the defense. And so Chris Finch calls for the timeout. Wants to regroup and go over the [Applause] strategy. Here is your home. And a new group in here for the Thunder. Williams, he’s checked in for Hartinstein. Aaron Wiggins comes in for Homegrren. Isaiah Joe, he’s checked in for Dor. And it’s Alex Caruso in for Gilis Alexander. Big group substitution now for Minnesota. Nas Reed, he’s checked in for Go. Clark comes in for McDaniels. Alexander Walker, he’s checked in for Edwards and it’s Dante Dvenenzo in for Mike Con. Alexander Walker finds Devincenzo and there’s the foul throwing Alex Caruso. That’s his first [Applause] foul. Evanzo against Caruso. Now here’s Devenenzo. Defense is right there. Clock is at three. Here’s Randall and he hits it just before the shot clock expires. Randle’s got eight points here in this quarter. Man, he is just really in a flow right now. That field goal percentage has gone through the roof. Pass to Williams. Puts up a deep three. Rebound by Alexander Walker. handle outside. 114 left to play in the third. Here’s the Venenzo. And here’s Reed. Here’s Alexander War. Rebounded by Joe. Oklahoma City leading by seven. To the middle. He’s looking for Wiggins and finds him. Park against Williams. That one goes in. Williams has got 20 points. Yeah, those passing skills are just part of what makes Caruso a valuable piece. [Applause] 36 seconds left in the third quarter. Out to the right wing. Here’s Randall. Lays it up and breaks it in. Randle’s got 10 points in just the second half and really the scoring this quarter has been just off the charts. Doing all he can to bring him back. Williams inside. He’s covered by Clark. Clark 13. [Applause] Pass to Caruso. Williams. A screen on Devenenzo. Caruso. No [Applause] good. On the wing. Devenenzo. And no luck with that time on the buzzer beater. And so it’s Oklahoma City bringing the quarter to a close with a seven-point lead. A good size advantage. And they’ll look to increase it. Will Fourth quarter of action is upon us. Thanks as always for joining [Applause] us. The Thunder lead by seven and so in the game for the Timberwolves. Nas Reed out there with Clark. Then there’s Dante Deansenzo. Then it’s Nia Alexander Walker and it’s Edwards in at the shooting guard. Williams passes to Gil Alexander. Pocket four. Got him with the pump fake move right there. Strong take by SGA. 66 with point guard skills. What a nightmare match up he is. And what do you guys think so far about the offensive approach for Oklahoma City? Well, they’ve been hitting threes at a high clip and the defense hasn’t done enough to challenge them at the line. They need to close out and run them off the three. And you also have to applaud how they’ve attacked the interior in this game. A lot of points happening for them in the paint. Timber trail by 10. And here’s beyond the arc. Wiggins with the rebound. And when you can’t get anything to fall, it definitely gets in your head. Yeah, they might want to draw something up here to get him something at the rim or get him to the free throw line. Sometimes that’s all it takes to snap a pull strike on the wing. Gil Alexander defended by Devenzo and able to get himself to the line. SDA so crafty inside there to get the contact at the line breaking two shots. Two shots. That’s good from Gilas Alexander. just Alexander hits them both. And if they continue, Kevin, their outstanding free throw shooting, that’ll help them seal the deal. [Applause] Fourth quarter still young just over a minute play and that’s a foul called on Shane Gilis Alexander that’s his fourth foul of the cont Timberwolves passing it [Applause] around since halftime he has just been in a funk offensive miss up the edge on the glass is the difference. It’s allowed them to build this lead. Tim Rolls trail by 12 to the inside. Pays it up and in off the pretty assist. It’s those kind of passes that bring up the entire team’s confidence. Alexander against Wiggins surveying the floor. Off to Gildas Alexander. Five on the clock. Fires from way outside and again Oklahoma City. No [Applause] good. Here’s Alexander Walker. Defended by Caruso. Pass to Reed. Williams comes with a double team. Stolen away. Even Jenzo against Wiggins. The epic counts. I love that they’re continuing to attack despite being up big. Yeah, they’re being absolutely relentless, building this lead in every way possible. And so Chris Finch calls for the timeout. And that timeout by coach was carefully measured, wanting to make sure that everybody is on the same page here. [Applause] to he’s checked in for Isaiah Joe. The Timberwolves also with the sub. Conley’s checked in. And the latest now from our sideline reporter, David Aldridge. David, it’s all yours. Take it away. Hey guys, here’s what Chris Finch went over with his guys during the break. He told them, “You can do a lot of great things out there and still lose if you don’t take care of the boards.” I want to see more effort. Gang, rebounding, everyone involved. That was his only focus. Kevin, thank you. David Edwards with confidence. Well, that’s only his second three of the night. If he’s going to heat up, the second half is a great time to do it. Gil Alexander against count that bucket. Gil Alexander’s got seven now in the sport. And good work inside. A will make more room for himself on the perimeter when he can be effective down low. Pass to Clark. Now here’s Connley. Here’s Reed. Gets the three-pointer to fall. Yeah, these defenders had better start closing down on shooting. And here’s Wiggins. Wiggins has a screen for Dort. Stolen by Connley. An easy two points on the layup. Yeah, Connley is turning back the clock right now. He’s feeling it and staying aggressive on [Applause] offense. Outside Gil Alexander and he drops in the layup off the glass. Gilis Alexander’s got 27 and he’s having quite the quarter converting at a really high percentage. Edwards with the screen for Convenus Alexander and stolen by Williams. Wiggins kicks to Dort. Pass to Gilis [Applause] Alexander. Williams passes to Caruso. Down to five on the shot clock over Clark. Caruso. No good. Well, he’s more than comfortable in the midra, but you can’t make them all. on the wing. Deenzo defended by Gorenzo gets it. Clark a screen on Gil Alexand. The pass to Clark and the shot is good. And guys, all about hard work from this point on. They’ve worked hard to create that high quality shot and then able to knock it down. And Mark Dead calls timeout here. There was no hesitating. He wants to talk to the team right now. Let’s get [Applause] [Music] updates checked in for Williams. Chad Homegrren comes in for Wiggins and Jaylen Williams is subbed in for Alex Caruso. Minnesota also making some changes. Rudy Gobear, he’s checked in for Reed. Randall comes in for Clark and it’s McDaniels in for Dante Devincenzo. [Applause] Dort against Edwards. Pass to Hartenstein over in the corner. Williams five to shoot. Back to Hartenstein and it’s out of bounds. They say it was last touch by [Applause] Williams. And here’s Edwards. He’ll bring it up for the Timberwolves. They trail by six. Nice defense from George. And they continue to control the glass. Gilas Alexander against Con. Now here’s Gilas Alexander. Defense right on him. Count it. And with that basket, he’s now nine of 15 from the floor. This is SDA roll. He’s out here to score and score often. Jordan against him. Go with a screen for every slump by Go. Oh, Kevin. Not a penny, not a Manny, but a face. Oh, bounce to the ounce. Greg. Yeah. Showing off the bunnies. Gilas Alexander kicks to Dort. Back to Gilas Alexander. Laid in with a nice touch off the glass. 31 points for Shay Gil Alexander. and he’s in such a great rhythm right now. Makes sense to give him the ball any way you can. Yeah, when you have a guy playing like he has been recently, he’s got to be the first option on every position. Go with a screen on Alexander. Shot clock. Conley gets the bucket. Well, who else but the steady veteran Mike Connley comes through with the timely one. Gil Alexander with it now. Defended by Go. Two free throws coming up and they call the shooting foul. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] First free throw is good and that increases their lead to six. [Applause] And he hits both free throws here. So now it’s a seven-point game. And no mistakes there. Good free throws to give them just a little bit more cushion. Edwards inside, defended by Dorton. That’s in for his fifth field goal of the game. Makes him five for 12 so far. Oklahoma City shooting at a decent 44% clip here. Shoots from the line. Rebound Minnesota. 56 seconds left in the game. Randle dishes to Edward. Edwards on the bounce. It counts. What a beautiful shot to bring him to within three. Wow. These are the moments that Edwards lives for. He is dynamite in the play. Hardenstein with a screen icon. Gildus Alexander passes to Hartinstein. The shots good. Well, credit the screen there springing him loose for the finish. And so Chris Finch calls for the timeout. And clearly an important junction. He’s going to have some choice words with his team. Turning here to our analysts, what factors, guys, come to your mind? And they need to use as little time as possible here. If they can get a bucket before the clock hits 24 seconds, they can try for a stop on the next possession. If there’s less than 24, then they’ll have to foul. [Applause] There’s 38 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Pass to Randall. Go with a screen for Randall. It’s rebounded by Henstein and so they foul intentionally. [Applause] [Applause] That’s the first and that increases their lead to [Applause] six and so he drops them both. It’s a seven-point game. Minnesota calls timeout. 23 seconds left in the fourth quarter of this one. Guys, what do you think? And I don’t think they’ll be able to climb out of this hole. Well, I’ve been in this spot more times than I’d like to admit. All you can do is tell your guys to hold their heads up and finish strong. Edwards looking it over. His three-pointer is off the mark. Gil withander against [Applause] Randle. So, it’s Oklahoma certainly picking up a win. A pretty good feeling right now for them to be out in front like this in the series. You know, Kevin, momentum so so critical and you know they’ll want to ride this wave.
