Is Trading Kevin Durant For Paul George, No. 3 Pick TOO RISKY For Phoenix Suns?

Is Trading Kevin Durant For Paul George, No. 3 Pick TOO RISKY For Phoenix Suns?

Could the Phoenix Suns land the number three overall pick in this year’s draft? Plus, Paul George if they trade Kevin Durant to the Philadelphia 76ers. It’s Eric and Stephen here for PHNX Suns. A trending addition. While you’re here, hit that like button, hit that subscribe button if you’re listening on audio. Five star reviews go a long, long way. Stephen, of course, as you know, Kevin Durant might get traded this summer. That’s a bit of news to me. I was not aware. Never heard it. So, we’ve been doing lots of Trade Machine Tuesdays, putting together hypothetical trades, and we have dove into the Paul George of it all. And of course, this recent reporting from Jeremy Woo says that the Sixers could be targeting Kevin Durant this off season with the number three pick in Paul George being on the table. What’s your initial reaction to a Kevin Durant trade package centered around Paul George and the number three pick in this year’s draft? Uh my first question for full transparency is do the Sixers value KD more or do they value Li Markin more who is the the other all-star caliber player that was kind of tabbed to the number three and Paul George trade template um that Woo spoke to. Um, and to that to that to answer that, I would imagine they value Kevin Durant more, but would Lowry be more easily attainable? Lowry be more on the timeline with that part too, Jared McCain and Tyrese Maxi because now they’re walking this tight rope, which is why they might be willing to part with the number three overall pick of building around Joel Embiid, who is around his 30s and is in his prime. So, do they want another older player to maybe go more alongside this championship aspirations with Joel Embiid or do you want to invest in the younger forward and Lowry Markin for the same price to more more so pair up with your Jared McCain and your Tyrese Maxis? Exactly. and you look at, okay, if if it is Joel and Tyrese that you’re trying to build around the type of usage you’re getting that from that player that’s going to be fitting with them that you’re going to be getting back in that trade. Obviously, Kevin Durant can be the best catch and shoot player in the league, but is that going to be what best suits him for your team? and you imagine the fit for him next to a Joel and a Tyresese Maxi in comparison to Lowry Marketing. And I feel like them having an elite shooter at that specific position will help them in ways that Kevin Durant would obviously be able to play to, but it’s just going to be a little different. And to that point, that’s why I posed the question that I did to start it because I feel like I feel like Lowry makes more sense for the Sixers context than Kevin Durant does. But is he worth and and separating with that number three pick also is interesting because you’re moving along with Paul George. So you’re not fully committing to either timeline with this trade considering you’re trading pieces from from both timelines. Kevin Durant needs the ball in his hands not to be effective but to be at his most effective. He could play off ball right? He can have gravity. He can catch and shoot like you mentioned but at the end of the day when Kevin Durant’s creating shots for himself that’s when Kevin Rance at his best. You can say the same thing about Joel Embiid. You can say the same thing about Tyrese Maxi, right? Even more so than the fit of Kevin Durant with Devin Booker. I feel like the fit with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxi is a little bit clunkier in theory because of the fact that okay, Embiid needs the ball to cook in the post and to to put up his numbers and to shoot as much as he needs to. Tyresese Maxi, he’s a good passer, but he loves to create off the dribble. So there is some overlap there even if it’s not positionally on the Sun side of things though because I Lowry I think has less value. He’s a worse player but a better fit. So do you want to give up the same type of package for in a vacuum a worse player but better fit? That’s interesting from the Sixers perspective. From the Suns perspective, the number three pick in Paul George for Kevin Durant. If you’re walking away as the Phoenix Suns, do you think that’s the best deal that you can get? It might be. It It very well could be honestly just because of the value of that number three pick. Obviously, the contract of Paul George is the contract. That’s a dice roll in and of itself. But if that dice rolls to a number that that’s inclined for your team, you have somebody that can be a above average player at worst and one of the better catch and shoot players, someone that can clearly play with another superstar and do so at a high level. And then the pick puts you in position to do multiple things. Obviously, you could use it. Obviously, you could literally trade it, attach it, or use it independent of any other player and see what type of contracts or what type of teams you can like knock on their door and just have a conversation about. Any team that’s on the skirts or they’re in limbo about what direction they’re headed and how they want to go about heading, whatever direction that is. Maybe you might be able to do something with that. Maybe you can maybe you can hit up Orlando, see what you could do with them. Maybe you can hit up Memphis, see if you could do something with them. There’s some options on the table that you just don’t have when you don’t have that number three pick. It is tough because I look at that number three pick and it’s extremely valuable. I also look at who’s projected to go three in this draft and I’m not in love with Ace Bailey to be completely. The question is though, you’re looking at it from the Suns perspective, right? Yeah. But if you want to flip it to another team who is interested in Ace Bailey. And that’s the thing, your perspective, your being the Suns is going to be different on that number three than another team might be. So that’s why I think a conversation can be had. I think Oh, for sure. If you have the number three pick, there’s going to be somebody who wants it. That there’s definitely value there. the Paul George fit. I don’t I I love if it was Paul George a couple years ago or if you could promise me that this is a healthy Paul George and a Paul George that can get along with Devin Booker, which is I feel like a whole different category to talk about this of does Deon Booker want to be playing with Paul George when they’ve very publicly had some some back and forth and some beef. But even beyond the personal side of things on the court, Paul George in theory fits well next to Devin Booker, sliding into that three- four spot, catch and suit shoot guy and perimeter defender, right? He’s getting near the the ender part, the later part of his career. His contract is massive and he’s only played one year on it so far. And his production is not matched even close to what that contract is worth. Correct. And some people would argue it was just a season from hell for Paul George and the Sixers and that he’ll bump his value up. You’re still taking an inherent risk on that, right? So that’s the Paul George side of it where if you don’t have Bradley Beiel off your team, you’re not getting under the second apron because you just traded for somebody who makes basically the same amount of money as KD on now a longer contract who is not young. So you’re you’re taking a gamble on their future. Mhm. That gives me some pause, right? Okay. But it comes with the number three overall pick. Now, if you can move that number three pick like we mentioned, then then that’s another conversation that you can have. But I I am a lot more comfortable, not that I think the players are better, but in the like 7 to 12 range of this first round, I’m more comfortable kind of taking a shot on somebody. I like Malawak out of Duke with three the the talent up top after one and and even two. Not that it falls off, it just is a little bit more of a shot in the dark. And if you make this trade, Stephen, and you don’t nail the number three overall pick, which you would have to do, you’re putting yourself in a really tough spot. Yeah. That’s the That’s the You have to roll the dice on something like this, though, if it’s on the table. Mhm. And it’s because of again whether you’re literally using the pick on a player that you might see value in, which is one of Gregory’s strengths that has been louded as maybe his most loud strength in terms of skill, his vision for a player and skill development. Um whether it’s that part or another trade that you’re making, it just gives you options. And when you’re in the situation they’re in, and I’m thinking about things with Bill removed from it, whether it’s via trade, whether it’s the waving stretch, I just don’t see him being on the roster next season. You duck that second tax apron, you put yourself in position to kind of reset your books a little bit, but also add talent. And I think that more than anything, they’re looking to be able to do that in multiple capacities. And you don’t give yourself a better chance to do that multiple ways than having that number three pick with your in your possession. I don’t think there’s any perfect trade package for Kevin Durant. They all come with some inherent risk. This one might be the riskiest to be honest with you. But is the risk worth the reward? Let us know down in the comments below. Kevin Durant is most likely going to be traded from the Phoenix Suns this summer, and according to Jeremy Woo, the Philadelphia 76ers could be interested in sending Paul George and the No. 3 pick in this year’s NBA Draft. Is that the best return the Suns could possibly get for KD? Is it too risky to trade for a high pick? Should they look to move the pick if they acquire it? 1. PG + Beal = immediate tanking since they playing 50 games combined… that would make sense if we had our own picks but ye… we cooked

  2. Booker and George are not on friendly terms.
There is very little chance that D Book would sign off on this.

  3. You do this trade and you’re basically punting on Booker too because you aren’t winning anything with having the two worst contracts in the sport locked in for the next few years and the third overall pick would not fit Booker’s timeline.

  4. Im NOT doing it. Just doesnt make sense to me. I would rather see him stay or trade him for more players and picks not 1 player with a terrible contract. Thats just me.

  5. i don't see beal on the roster next year and i also don't want to see beal on the roster next year please don't let this man continue to destroy our team

  6. Four out of the last 6 seasons, George has missed a ton of games due to injury. He also isn't near the player that he use to be. Suns have to get a whole lot more than that for Durant. I'd rather keep Durant.

  7. I don't see how it's a risky deal at all. The #3 pick might give us a bit of a future, there is no future with KD – he's 38

  8. Why don't we send KD to 76's, they send PG to Utah with the 3rd pick and we get Lauri and some picks from the Jazz? Something more along that line?

  9. Man, Ishbia has really screwed this team if taking on PG's contract is one of the better deals we can get. But hey, it's his money and he's literally trying to buy a championship. I'm sorry but the Booker era was over as soon as Ishbia bought the team, now the best way forward is to blow it all up and start the rebuild asap.

  10. The only one that should get traded or taken off the team is Beal. I think Beal is being a pos and holding this team hostage with his no trade clause. Can’t imagine any team wanting to take him or his contract. If they can’t trade Beal, then the suns will trade Booker and kd. Or Booker will request a trade. Sucks. Terrible years are ahead for this team. Thanks Ishbia.

  11. Sixers called for KD before of course they want him but it’s not worth it for PG unless your moving him and that contract is horrendous

  12. All of this is predicated on KD agreeing to go to these teams. He’s not going to Philly or Orlando or Detroit. Ain’t happening. There might be three teams he would be willing to go and that dramatically reduces the Suns’s leverage.

  13. If u can get the #3 pick and u draft a player to pair with booker…or the real question is where are u getting high level talent at?where are u going with booker?booker should be traded too we are 3-4 yrs away

  14. Pg and book hate each other, and pg is up there with beal as worst contract in the league. He averaged like 15 points this season. Do you guys watch basketball

  15. As much as i'd love to see a player like vj escombe on the suns. Definitely not worth it adding pg and his contract next to beal's.

We need to focus on hiring the right coach, then actually drafting a couple of bigs with our two picks.

Outside of trading allen for an additional pick or getting a good player and a pick for durant( the reality is we aren't getting a haul for him) we need to stop gambling on big names. Add defensive specialists, consistent shooters and size and physicality.

  16. The only way I would consider 3 years of Paul George is if I were CERTAIN I could somehow move George as soon as I acquire him. In other words, there should be a third team involved who could take him. That probably means that the #3 pick would travel to the third team with George, and not to the Suns. When you ask if it's risky, that implies it might work, it might not. I just think it's a bad deal period. I would rather have the cap space after Durant walks.

  17. The Suns are beyond the 2nd tax line…they can only trade Durant…one player for one player….no aggregating salaries….almost dollar for dollar…,I dont understand why ppl are making things up….its not just you guys….if you dont have the knowledge needed….shouldn't be talking about it
