NBA LIVE! Oklahoma City Thunder vs Minnesota Timberwolves GAME 1 LIVE | May 20, 2025 | NBA Playoffs

Heat. Heat. N. [Music] [Music] [Music] shootings, containing shooters, and making it tough to find looks. And their activity on the defensive end has been fantastic here tonight. They’ve had deflections. They’ve ended up with steals. And that’s just getting them out on the break and speeding them up. And he shows the focus there. Nails the team. Well, we know Edwards has an impressive skill set, but what really separates him is the competitive edge that he plays with. Gilas Alexander against Enenzo. Six on the shot clock. from deep. The rebound by Wiggins. He is just so deadly from out there. You expect that to fall on the court for Minnesota. We’ve got Nquille Alexander Walker, Dante Devenenzo out there with Edwards. Then there’s Nas Reed and it’s Clark in at the four. Now here’s Alexander Walker. He’s guarded by Caruso. Reed sets a screen from 11 ft away and he was fouled in the act of shooting. Opportunity for a three-point play here. And you have to love the focus. He gets hit but converts it anyway. Minnesota shooting their sixth attempt at the charity strike of the [Music] game for [Applause] one. Free throw drops for Clark. Second quarter of basketball just over a minute and a half played so far. Now here’s Gilas Alexander to the middle. Caruso outside. There’s a screen. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up. Alexander Walker picks one up. He shot two free throws in the game, made one and missed one. [Applause] Alex, the free throw drops for Caruso. [Applause] That’s also good. So he hits both free throws. Timberwolves trail by five outside. Edwards. Creed sets a screen. Jacks up a three. And Edwards the bucket on the assist by Dvenenzo. Edwards has got four points now in the quarter. And here’s Gilis Alexander. He’ll bring it up for OKC. [Applause] There’s a screen by Wiggins inside. Pass to Williams. Back to Wiggins. Clock at six. Here’s Gilas Alexander. Cash money from 16 ft away. Gilas Alexander’s got six. Excellent shot from SGA. I like seeing him shake loose with a screen on Gilas Alexander. Gilg Alexander with a rebound. Gilgus Alexander’s got five rebounds tonight. Daruso pass to Wiggins. Good D by Clark. Timberwolves trail by [Applause] four. Outside Alexander [Applause] Walker Enzo against Gil just Alexander. [Applause] Oklahoma City grabs a miss. Gilgus Alexander’s got six rebounds now in the [Applause] game here in the second quarter. Just under three and 1/2 minutes played with the crossover. Ooh, he took a hard foul on the shot. So, he’ll head to the line to shoot a pair. It’s on Dante Danchenzo. So slippery in there. Gildas Alexander makes great adjustments to get what he wants. So far, he’s made all of his shots at the foul line, going four for four. [Applause] And he knocks down the first one. Yeah, just knocking down every free throw. I mean, I love to see this kind of efficiency. A big group substitution here for Oklahoma City. Henstein, he’s checked in for Williams. Chad Homegrren comes in for Wiggins. Jaylen Williams, he’s checked in for Caruso. And it’s Lou Dort in for Joe. And a new group getting ready for the Timberwolves. Rudy Goar has checked in for Reed. Julius Randall comes in for Clark. McDaniels is checked in for Alexander Walker. And Connley subbed in for Devenzo. Well, when he gets into a groove at the free throw line, it doesn’t just last for tonight. This might be two weeks, two months, something like that. Go with a screen on [Applause] homegring where to go with it. And the three off target. Nice rebound. Trying to match the other team’s intensity right now. Williams passes to Gilgus Alexander up top. Hartinstein back to Dort Edwards against Kilis Alexander. That one’s good. Two for eight now. Gilas Alexander does a lot of things well and this time playing with some great offensive balance. Randle a screen on Gilis Alexander. Conley goes in. Good work defensively by Gilgus Alexander. Thunder leading by [Music] [Applause] eight. Door up top guarded by Edwards. [Applause] Outside Gilgous Alexander door to screen on Connley. Here’s Gilas Alexander and good as it takes a nice bounce off the right iron and down. When you have a guard like Gilas Alexander that fights inside, it can add some spunk to your [Applause] team. Conley against Gilas [Applause] Alexander. It’s McDaniels on the wing. Here’s Edwards and he’s going to the line for two. The officials saw contact while he was going up and we’ve seen Edwards grow a lot in the past few years. He has a great understanding of how to put defenders in tough spots. [Applause] He misses the free throw. Caruso, he’s checked in for Oklahoma City. [Applause] Good on the second one. And it’s the Thunder with the ball. And we’ve got a timeout called by Mark Dagnel. He’s going to talk it over with his [Applause] guys to the floor. It’s the Alexander Walker. He’s checked in for Minnesota. and walk. [Applause] Connley against Caruso. Do it outside. Pass to Williams. Fires the three. Making his presence felt here. He’s now six for nine in this game. A shot that Williams continues to work on. He loves seeing these type of results. Randle [Applause] outside. Picked by Goar down low. The shot comes out. Good work defensively by Hartinstein. Homer the pass to [Music] Caruso. Williams from long range. Oh, the Thunder. Another three. They’re shooting the three extremely well this quarter. Be fun to see if they can keep it up. And here’s Connley. High five points in the game. Randle outside. No Bear with a screen on Homegrren. Here’s Randall. The top of the key jumper is on the mark. Nice play by Julius. Good decision maker in the pick and roll. Caruso against Connley. Caruso. The pass to Homegrren. Screen by [Applause] Homegrren. Now here’s Dort guarded closely. Shot clock at five. Oklahoma City’s got to hurry. They got to get up a shot off target from outside. Timberwolves trail by 13. Alexander Walker. The pass to Connley. McDaniels against [Applause] Williams. Outside. McDaniels. Here’s Randall. Gets it to go. His second make in six tries. And off the jump. They were effective from deep. I don’t know why they haven’t continued to fire from out there to the wing on the [Music] left. Back to Caruso. Pass to Williams. Hartinstein with it over Goar. Hartinstein. No good. It’s pretty much the only way to keep him from taking advantage of you down low. You got to play tough, physical defense. Gome with a screen on Dorton. Here’s Alexander Walker. Oh, he gets it to fall and that makes it just a single-digit deficit. Alexander Walker’s got five now. Thunder leading by [Applause] nine. Caruso outside. Pass to Dortgrren with it. Check by Randall Homegr. Oh, and he hits it at the buzzer. Makes his selection just in time. Well done. Yeah, it’s almost like he’s playing with the wristwatch there. He knew the time. He executed. And so that brings the first half to a close. Thunder out in front. They lead by 11. We’ll see you after halftime for the beginning of the third quarter. Hey, offensively they can post you, drive it, run cut. [Music] Hey, and time for us to get back into it here in game one. And you know, Anthony Edwards has been really making it happen, guys. Through the first two quarters and change, his perimeter shooting continues to be spot on. Yeah, you would hope the defense at least would start to consider creeping up on him just a little bit. Some serious height in the middle. Homegrren the four, Hardenstein the five. Gil just Alexander runs the point with Gord at the two and it’s Williams in at the three. That’s the lineup out there for the Thunder to the paint. Here’s Gobear. And so he draws the foul headed to the line to shoot a pair. It’s on Isaiah Hartenstein. The length of Goar is a problem for any defense. And of course, he uses it so well to draw contact while shooting. Two shots. [Applause] and he can’t get the first one. For his career, Goar’s field goal percentage is in the same ballpark as his free throw percentage and he sings the second. Here’s Gilas Alexander outside. Williams pass to Homegrren. Edwards pulls it in. You won’t see him miss that one too many times. Yeah, that happens. Important thing is for players, just don’t beat yourself up and make a miss like that cost you another play. A great move. I mean, the defense has no response. Well, just ripping through right there as he he finds the open spot and gets right through there. High basketball IQ play. Gordon for three. Randle pulls down the board. Really excellent defense there. They know he’s capable of knocking it down from the outside and they could not have played him [Applause] better. And if you’re just joining us, we play just over a minute here in the third. Williams against McDaniels. Out of bounds, the Oklahoma City’s ball. Thunder leading by eight. D outside. Pass to Homegrren. Outside Williams. Dort against Edwards. three-pointer and Gilchis Alexander gets it to go on the assist from Gordon. So Dorch got five assists tonight. Connley with the ball. He’s got five from the ark. Oklahoma City grabs a miss. Homer’s got four rebounds now. And we’re just about two minutes into the final half of play [Applause] now. He drains it from the right block. Homegrren’s got 11 points. D has been just completely helpless and turned around. He’s so dangerous when he’s in this kind of rhythm. Goar finds Connley. Edwards looking it over. Over Dort and it’s Homegrren with a rebound. Omg’s got his fifth rebound in this one. Just over two and a half minutes gone by in the second half. Edwards against Gilis Alexander. Homegr. The pass to Dort. Back to Homegrren. Now Gilis Alexander from deep. The rebound by the Timberwolves. Go Bear’s got six rebounds in the game. Even if you’re not shooting it, you like to see the effort level. His tonight has been high outside. Edwards. Edwards just pulling his way inside. Outstanding work in close. Edwards is just so confident from this area. Kilg Alexander passes to Hartinstein. Williams with it. Pass to Homegrren and here’s Dorton. Back to Homegrren to the inside. Here’s Gil Alexander. And there’s a whistle. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. It goes on Mike Connley. And money from the stripe. SGA can close his eyes and knock that down. He’s gone six of six from the line tonight. Alexander taking two shots. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. First free throw is good. And the growth that Shay has shown over the years. It has come on so fast with how he has improved, but he’s adding to his game. Oklahoma City making a switch here. Caruso has checked in. And the Timberwolves also making a change. Alexander Walker’s checked in. Both free throws good from Gilas Alexander in the third quarter with just over three and 1/2 minutes off the clock. Go with a screen on Gilas Alexander. Oh, ferocious from Gobear. The floor general Connley dependable at finding his guys in screen and roll sets. And we’ve got a timeout called by Mark Daggnel. He wants to review the game plan. Ladies and gentlemen, number 250. [Music] [Applause] Here’s Hardenstein. No point so far. Caruso outside. Back to Dorton. [Applause] Pass to Gilgous Alexander. Here’s SGA. Good work there as it goes and the Thunder lead by 13. Gilas Alexander has blossomed into this forceful guard. Just look at this performance. Alexander Walker. The pass to Randall. And here’s Connley. Gil Alexander [Applause] defending. Connley against Gilas Alexander. Lock at four. puts it up. The shot by Connley. No good. Oklahoma City leading by 13. Pass to Hardenstein and stolen by Edwards. Here’s Randall. And it’s Randall with the jam. Well Randall can get up there with the best of them. It’s a quick move. Caruso outside. Back to Gilas Alexander. Up and over Connley and Gilis Alexander missing and so Randall will bring it up for the Timberwolves. Pass to Gobear. Oh, and Gold Bear powers it home. You’re best to get out of Goar’s way. You don’t want to be on the wrong end of that tug. Dort outside to the middle. Hardenstein finds Dort. Here’s Gilis Alexander. Oh, the determination from Gilis Alexander. Yeah, this period they’re letting him go to work and it’s paying off. Randle outside. Back to Conway. [Applause] Oklahoma City grabs a miss. There’s a little bit of pressure on him, but not enough to cause him to miss a shot that’s in that close. Just Alexander from outside. It’s rebounded by Rudy Gobear. Gobear has got his seventh rebound here tonight. Connley against Gilas Alexander. Pass to Alexander Walker. Just five to shoot. Shoots from 14. Yep, that one’s good. Alexander Walker’s got seven points. He’s a go-to guy for them because he’s that consistent. Time and time again, he delivers. Back to Gilis Alexander. Now, Caruso covered by Alexander Walker. Edwards against Caruso. Here’s Gilg’s Alexander. SGA using that size. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. They should continue to ride the hot hand. Timber Wolves trail by 11. And Chris Bench calls timeout here. He wants to make sure everybody’s on the same page. Oh my. Their coach does not look happy. And I can guess why. Their interior defense has been struggling. No, they’re not preventing them from scoring. And if you can get to a high efficiency shot on the floor, and that’s the paint, you just keep going. So for Oklahoma City, Williams has checked in for Hartstone. Wiggins comes in for Gilg Alexander. And Joe subbed in for [Applause] Dort. Here’s Alexander Walker. Sinks the tray. 10 points for him. They’re being put to the test and he’s doing everything he can to keep them in this game. Williams against Clark. High arcing shot and there’s Caruso. That one’s good on the assist from Williams. And trust me, when the D’s slow to react, he’ll be the first guy to make them. Well, I know they don’t have mobile devices out there for texting, so they might as well talk to one another. Outside Alexander Walker pass to Randle going by Wiggins. Just two seconds between the shot clock and the game clock. And here’s Caruso outside. Hits the trifecta. Caruso’s got five points in the quarter. Timberwolves trail by 13. Now Deanchenzo and he converts the layup. No need to risk a shot from range when you can take it inside. Now here’s Williams. No, no good on the last second is hit there. And so it’s the Oklahoma City Thunder closing out the quarter ahead by 11 points. Their key to consistency has been their dominance in the paint. They’ve been the more physical team back after this. And let’s take this opportunity to show you our State Farm assist of the game. And from the two guard spot, an unselfish play like this sets a fantastic tone. Even though the position is called shooting guard, passing part of your responsibilities in today’s [Applause] game. This stadium is rocking right now as we return to the Western Conference Finals. And a look now at the five for the Timberwolves to start the fourth quarter. We’ve got Nas Reed, Anthony Edwards out there with Dante Don Chenzo. And it’s Minox in at the power forward. A tale of two halves. After a slow start, he’s turning his offense [Applause] around outside. Edwards. They set the pick from the strike. Williams grabs the board. He just couldn’t finish the job that time. And too bad because it was a nice [Applause] look. Here’s Wiggins. Stolen by Clark. That’s a bad miscue, but I think they’ve done a really good job keeping control of the ball throughout the game. Edwards with it. Guarded now by Williams. Edwards. No good. Thunder leading by 13. Down low. The steel. Just over a minute played here in the fourth. Anthony Edwards takes the contact. You got to bring more muscle if you want to stop Edwards from scoring. He’s gifted at converting through contact. Caruso outside Williams. A screen on Clark. And it’s Caruso on the tape. The shot off that time. Good D by Clark. Timberwolves trail by 11. Outside Devincenzo back to [Applause] Clark. There’s the three. Nails it from beyond the arc. There’s no way he’s going to pass that shot up. The D is way too far back and relaxed in getting out on it. Just Alexander against Enenzo takes a three. offensive board. Joe on the wing knocks down the triple. The assist numbers certainly stand out. They’ve really emphasized ball movement here today. Clark pass to [Applause] Edwards. Three-pointer. The Thunder pull it in. The biggest lead of the game, 15 points. Well, he was terrific in the first half, guys. Maybe some adjustments from the opposing team coach. And he’s lost a little bit of that touch here in the second. Yep. Count it. Georgia Alexander. Fantastic concentration. Timberwolves trail by 13. Denzo pass to Edwards. Sinks the 15-footer. Edwards has got 24 points. And he was dominant in their last outing. And the same thing here tonight. He is in a terrific group right now. Seems to be nobody standing in his way. No roadblocks for him to get to his spot, capitalize and continue to be aggressive and count the basket. He was fouled and he’s going to the line for one more. All right, a look at how the points have been generated so far. A scoring breakdown for the Thunder. They’ve been all about high percentage looks in this game, working the ball inside and doing whatever it takes to get it to go. You probably have to touch on as well that tonight their penetration has been awesome. I mean, they put force on this game attacking off the bounce and a willingness to do that has paid off. And here’s Gilas Alexander. Wiggins outside and stolen by Edwards. Edwards on the move. Caruso grabs the board. And so it’s Caruso who brings up the ball for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Eight-point [Applause] game from deep. Gilas Alexander hits the three-pointer. Gil Alexander’s got 18 points in just the second [Applause] half. Pass to Edwards. Knocks it loose and a fast break now for the Thunder. Gil just Alexander surveying the D. Wiggins with a screen on Connley inside and he dunks it. What a pass to set him up. Gil just Alexander with that height at his position allows him to do so many things other guys really pretty much dream of. Hard the pass to Connley. Solid defense from Gilas Alexander. Thunder leading by 13. Dorton finds Gilas Alexander. No luck on that one. Nice D from Reed. And there’s a whistle that’s going to go on Lou Dort. That’s foul number two for him. So for Oklahoma City, Hartstein comes in for Williams. And it’s Jaylen Williams in for Caruso. Rudy Gobear has checked in for the Timberwolves. Julius Randall comes in for Clark. Timberwolves trail by 13. Here’s Connley outside. [Applause] Devincenzo Randall outside from downtown. Dort grabs the miss and they’re plus five on the boards after that rebound. Williams against Connley. Hardenstein with a screen on Goar. Here’s Gilas Alexander and he got the whistle on the way up so he’ll be headed to the line for a pair. Gilas Alexander does a good job of just staying aggressive and that just forces the defense to do something. [Applause] The first one falls. Oklahoma City making a switch here. Homegrren’s checked in. McDaniels has checked in for the Timberwolves. [Applause] And that one goes in. Two from the line that time and really strong at the line since the break. Timberwolves trail by 15. And Chris Finch calls timeout here. He’s decided it’s time to clarify the situation, leaving little room for error. [Music] And keeping us updated from the sidelines, Ally Leforce. I was able to listen in on what Chris Finch was going over with his team. He did his best to light a fire under them, saying, “We have to fight. Now is the moment we have to come out of this deficit swinging, guys.” As always, Ally, we thank [Applause] you. Randall finds Goar. Randall with it. Now guarded by Homegrren. Randall against Homegrren. Randall can’t hit. You have to credit their effort. I mean, they’ve done an amazing job on the glass. That’s the homer. Here’s Hardenstein. Six to shoot. Gord for three. Gets rebounded by Minnesota. And the defense got away with one there. I mean, that’s a shot he typically makes. Edwards against Gilis Alexander. Go with a screen on Gilis Alexander. Edwards from the top of the key. He buries it. Edwards got 29. And the offensive firepower Edwards is capable of is special. I mean, we are seeing it on full display right now. two minutes. Gilgus Alexander against Connley to the middle and stolen by Edwards. And here’s the fast break from 15 ft away. The put back. I always love the hard work on the glass. Just great activity. And Gilis Alexander’s got the ball here for the Oklahoma City Thunder. The biggest lead of the game, 15 points. And that one drops. Gilg Alexander’s got 34 and Shay putting it on a string so hard to stay on top of him as a defender. Do it against [Applause] Edwards. Shot clock at six. The Timberwolves need to get off a shot here. The triple hits for Edwards. When Edwards knocks down threes, Ant is pretty much unstoppable. Thunder leading by 10. And they got to be happy with how they are starting off these conference finals. A tone setting win for the Thunder. Offensively, they made the most of their trips. They found multiple ways to score consistently. And a little luck doesn’t hurt them either. They also got some nice bounces off the rim tonight, too. And so they start the conference finals off on the right foot with an important win. They wanted to set the tone for the rest of the series here tonight. And mission accomplished. They get to move forward with all the momentum on their side. And of all the highlights and performances we’ve seen here tonight, the one thing that stands out is what an unbelievable night it’s been for Shay Gilchas Alexander. And I love how active he was on the glass. Not afraid to get physical and do whatever he could do to grab boards. Edwards for three. Williams grabs the board. Here’s Oklahoma City now leading by 12. Dort the pass to Williams down low. Here’s Gil’s Alexander again. Oklahoma City showing us that killer instinct right now. No letting the foot off the gas for them. Yeah, up until that point a competitive game, but once they broke through that barrier, it was all them. Complete control.
