Johnny Bach used to call it releasing the Dobermans. Jordan and Pippen on you in a double team is an absolute nightmare. I wish this level of defense was still alive. I would give the high scoring games away in a heartbeat for these defensive drag out games anyday.
Thanks for posting this — and this version is far better than the TBS version because the latter doesn't have as much crowd noise/atmosphere as this version does
I remember coming home right at around the 1:06:40 mark, and when Jordan got that defensive rebound I thought, "They're losing", because I KNEW the crowd wouldn't be so energetic if they had the lead.
I LOVE the ensuing made three and response from the crowd, Jack Haley, Jordan, and the announcers.
And to a certain female from Winter Park that I met that January, your Magic were a great team whether they won a championship or not.
Penny said in "This Magic Moment" that he thought the Magic would've had a better record than the (72-10) Bulls and won this series (and the championship) this '95-'96 season if they had won the finals in '94-'95 (because, in his own words, as best as I remember, "even with Michael Jordan coming back, I think we'd have had so much swag that no one would've been able to stop us").
With all due respect, Penny, you finished that regular season 12 games behind the Bulls (despite winning 60 games), and got swept by them in the Conference Finals (and two of those games were blowouts)! Sorry, but no amount confidence would alone have made up that difference! There's no way all that "swag" would've propelled you to the 1-seed, and even if you somehow got the 1-seed, the Conference Finals matchup would've been against them anyway, and it's quite clear based on this blowout of a series that they still would've won regardless.
And that's not even mentioning how ridiculous even "if we won the finals in '95" is, given they also got swept in that series (with two games there also being blowouts)! And there's a reason. No, it wasn't "overconfidence." Simply put, because going into the playoffs (when the 6th-seeded Rockets, despite being defending champions and having added a second superstar in Clyde Drexler midway through the season), the goal for the Magic and most of the East was simply to get to the Finals, where the West looked like a lock to win "regardless of who got there" (because, simply put, any of the top 4 seeds in the West would've been the 1-seed if they were in the East! Yes, even the 4th-seeded Sonics would've had home court advantage the Finals if they made it there)! The only reason people thought Orlando had a chance was because the Rockets made it and, against all odds, the East had home court in the Finals! But the Rockets – now actually playing to the level their talent would lead you to expect (their entire championship team returning – plus Clyde Drexler) – quickly proved it was no fluke they beat the 60-win Jazz, the 59-win Suns, and the 62-win Spurs teams (all in a row, all despite being on the road), and swept the Magic and made it clearly the correct prediction (from before the playoffs began) that "whoever wins in the West will easily win the Finals." The Rockets swept the Magic (in all three previous rounds , their opponents won at least 2 games), and blew them out twice during that sweep!
In other words, "if we would've won" was completely ridiculous on its own. Let alone, "if we would've won, the added confidence would've caused us to perform at a level where we would've won 13 more games and/or swung the Conference Finals so we ended up winning it instead of being swept!"
The Magic played well for their situation. But this idea that they "underachieved" or "they failed because of a lack of confidence" needs to be put to rest (by everyone, not just Penny) and more actual credit needs to be given to the actual teams that beat them (due to being the superiorly-talented teams and the Magic just not having the individual talent to overcome them- definitely not due to "the Magic not being at their best")!
Danny Ainge Was such a good sportsman doing the TV thing for this game remember Danny Ainge lost back to back in the finals to the Bulls in 1992 with Portland and 1993 with the Suns.

I give the Jordan Bulls win the series 4-2 or 4-3
The Bulls cut the Magicโs heart out in this game! It was brutal for the Magic.
trolling Horace Grant in the last seconds is certainly unpleasant, but he earned it

Thank you for bringing back all these classic games. You are the best.
Back in the day when we weren't allowed to know the score ๐ Easy on the eyes though.

Seeing the SportsChannel logo never ceases to smack me with nostalgic feelings.

I don't know what this bulls team would have done without Jack Haley in his cheerleader role

Orlando was like Holy Crap we led by 18 and lost!
This sport is OVER-timed-out. Stop overcutting the plays. It's getting really boring.
The double whammy on Toni Kukoc- Joey Crawford was quick in handing out the technical on Special K after the foul call.
Nice
What a lineup the Magic had.
