Golden State Warriors Interested In Derrick White?

Golden State Warriors Interested In Derrick White?

Yo, what’s going on guys? And today there’s a report. I don’t know the validity or how reputable this report is, but the Golden State Warriors may be interested in Derek White. I personally think hell to the no if I’m the Celtics. If you guys want Drew all day, we can talk. But Derek White, that’s a stretch. And I understand any team would want Derek White. So before we continue today’s video, I’d like to hear your thoughts down below in the comments section. What do you expect from this? Do you think it’s a smoke screen and they could actually be talking for Drew Holiday who is expected to be available in trade negotiations? Or do you think they would actually try to trade for Derek White? I think obviously Derek White would be the crown jewel in a trade with the Celtics, but Drew Holiday would be a pretty good secondary option. So, let’s talk about this. Hit that like and subscribe button. It’ll help out the channel a ton. So, the report goes a little bit like this. And specifically the report is coming from heavy.com by Keith Watkins. It says appearing on the low Zack Low Show Murdoch aka Mr. Logan Murdoch of the Ringer says the Warriors are looking at Derek White this season’s off season, citing him as the kind of high IQ two-way guard who can elevate the Golden State Warriors backcourt. Now, the quote goes, quote, “Another guy I think you should be looking out for the Warriors going forward is Derrick White. I think that’s something that the Warriors are looking at right now.” End quote. Now, uh I really just that’s it’s hard for me to think that that’s the case because I know someone’s going to argue, well, he’s going to have to get paid and Boston already paid Drew. Well, you trade Drew and then you paid Derek cuz I think Dererick and Peyton Pritchard is what they want their future backcourt depth to look like. And I mean obviously the dream if I’m the Warriors would be to try to get Kristoff Porzingis and Drew Alde which would be about $62 million over because it would give them the center that they need in rotation and on expiring. It would allow them to go in on one season. They could maybe even get that at a discount. Now people are going to be like, “Well, Drew’s got a couple years remaining.” But it would allow both Curry and Drew to play on or off ball with one another. Now, how do they do that deal? A the deal would have to be there there’s so many like avenues in my in my mind that would have to be crossed. A I think Kaminga, you would want to probably get the Brooklyn Nets to somehow take Kaminga or just Kaminga’s gone in this case. Moody, buddy healed, maybe Bpod or you try to keep BP pod. We’re going to try to put this trade together and I think just for the Drew Holiday one, which I I think if you look at the the scenario, it’s actually cuz they’re at $164 million this off season. I want to say the deal isn’t as difficult as one would believe. What would you make a deal for Drew Holiday or Derrick White? I think I I do believe Derrick White’s just going to be too rich for the Warriors as Drew Holiday they could probably get on a discount as the Celtics might be wanting to get off of that. And my assumption could it be a combination of salaries like a built around obviously Moses Moody maybe. All right, future me coming in right here and explaining everything what just happened. So the general context is that the first and second apron which penalizes high spending teams is going to be difficult to make this deal done. So what we have to understand that trade rules that defer depend on whether a trade is simultaneous or non-simultaneous. Sign trade deals which allow teams to trade a player. They’re about to lose in free agency while receiving something back, but trigger heart cap rules for the team acquiring that player. So, how do these trades work down? In both versions of the trade, Boston is either trading Derrick White or Drew Holiday, depending on the version, to the Warriors. In return, they’re taking back cheaper players and younger guys, either Trace Jackson Davis or a Tyrese Martin or whoever it is in this version. So Jaylen Wilson and one of them. This allows them to get under the second apron. It clears cap space and helps with the roster flexibility for a team likely paying Jason Tatum, a supermax post Achilles injury, and Jaylen Brown. Now, Golden State is trying to win now by adding a proven guard like Derek White or Drew Holiday. Derek White is $4 million cheaper. So, the deal could be done without Moses Moody for Derek White. But Drew Hall would have to include Moses Moody. So, they would send out Jonathan Aminga who wants a $30 million contract and a is a young talent who wants to play at an all-star level or thinks he can. Moses Moody and then filler contract of either Ge Santos and Trace Jackson Davis would have to be used. Why would the Warriors do do this? Adding either player would boost their defense, allow this team to be deeper for some more playoff reliability while trimming the luxury tax bills for the Celtics. So on the Warriors side, it makes sense. Now, the Nets, if you’re looking at this, they act like a calf space dumping ground, but with the twist, they receive Kaminga andor Moody and others. They’re not contending. And yeah, they renounce the cap holds on a high salary players, but they could still bring back D’Angelo Russell if they want. And they’ll be able to now have some young talent and expiring deals, and they use their space to make the math work for a sign and trade deal. Now, why is Kaminga a sign and trade non-simultaneous transaction? A simultaneous transaction happens when both teams swap players at once, fitting all salary rules instantaneously. And a non-simultaneous trade, however, uses a dead or a delayed cap exception. And how that applies is that the signing trade mechanics, the Warriors, in this case, would sign and trade a three-year $96 million deal of Kaminga to the Nets after they signed him. and a sign and trade cannot be combined with other players or contracts unless done via non-simultaneous trade mechanisms. So, Kaminga is packaged with Moses Moody to Brooklyn and that’s a red flag for simultaneous trade rules. But the non-simultaneous workaround is that Kaminga’s signing trade becomes one transaction and then Moody’s trade becomes a separate transaction possibly using a traded player exception that Brooklyn has. And even though both moves happen together, they’re logged as two distinct trades. This is the legal workaround that lets teams bend the rules without breaking them while still triggering the hard cap for Brooklyn. So what’s happening here? The Warriors are consolidating win now talent. The Celtics are shedding salary, going younger, and getting more flexible depth. The Nets are absor absorbing young talent, maybe getting some draft capital while staying cap flexible. and Kaminga sign and trade bundled with Moody forces the league to treat it as a non-simultaneous set of trades that comply with the CBA rule. And then I know Buddy Heel gets you to 20 which then gets you just under $12 million from what the the Warriors would need. So my problem though is that would you trade Buddy healed? I would want to keep Buddy Hill in my opinion. And that leaves you with Gez Santos and Trace Jackson Davis as the other two trade chips with Moses Moody for a Drew Hall or a Derek White as Drew and Derek make significantly more than those contracts combined cuz $32 million for Drew and with Moses movie that’s 11.5 million. Let’s say we throw in TJD and G Santos, which then would just make this about 16 even. And I’m sorry, that’s like very very not close. They would have to do this deal by moving $8.8 million if you’re the Warriors, aka Buddy Heield, would have to be included in this deal. Unless, for example, sign trade. Let’s say we get the Nets into this dance as we talked about before. Would this be able to be done if you signed and trade? And this is also involving because right now we’re doing it for Drew, but a Derek White makes $4 million less. So, you still have to get four over. And that’s where I bring up a Kaminga signing trade. I wonder if you do that and whatever asset you get there, could you send that to the Nets to sweeten the deal? I definitely think that’s interesting if possible. So, my my thoughts, okay, is even if [Music] you were trying to get a deal for Derek White, you’re still going to have to find out how to clear $4 million. And that’s where it becomes really tough without trading Buddy Healed. And I would want to keep Buddy Healed if I was trading for Drew Holiday. Now I want to see is it possible to do the deal instead of you sending out Drew, you do Derek White as we mentioned and that deal I still think would not be able to be done as I mentioned because you’re 4.5 over and there’s no way for that deal to work with those three players of Moody and Santos and Trace Jackson Davis. this. Now, I know we didn’t include a sign in trade like we mentioned earlier because a they could renounce the cap hold, which is something that is possible. I think the the interesting thing here though is let’s say you do do the three-year $30 million deal that someone like a I’m going to do $32 million right here cuz Jaylen Johnson I believe got 35 a year and they wanted the same as Jaylen. I’m just going to do 32 maybe just to get it as a round number. Now you send Kaminga’s 32 to the Nets and if the Nets just send assets even there you’re still short because what ends up happening the deal actually the deal works like that. You can actually do this deal. You can actually do this deal if you’re the Warriors. If you’re able to get a contract, it doesn’t even have to be 30 million. Obviously, that’s going to make it even more flexible. But in this scenario, if you’re the the Nets, the Nets get themselves Jonathan Kaminga and a signing trade and either Derek White or Drew Holiday can go to the Celtics with Kaminga going to the Nets. Now, Moody, Getos, and Trace Jackson Davis go to the Celtics or the Nets. In this scenario, we have him going to the Celtics, but the Nets would have to probably send over some contracts that they would want to get rid of or I mean have to get rid of. So maybe a Maxwell Lewis goes to the Warriors and a Tyrese Martin to the Warriors with second round picks or first round picks going to the Celtics to Sweden this deal. But this deal could be done in that sense where Kaminga gets signed and trade to the Nets as then the Nets would be able to take on Kaminga’s contract because they have the most cap space in the NBA. What do you think?

The Golden State Warriors may be eyeing a major backcourt upgrade. On The Lowe Post, Logan Murdock shared that the Warriors are “looking at” Derrick White as a potential offseason target. White’s elite defense, decision-making, and ability to play off the ball make him a seamless fit next to Stephen Curry. Murdock described him as the “kind of high-IQ, two-way player” Golden State needs to retool around its aging core.

As speculation continues, some are wondering if Jrue Holiday could also be in play. But for now, Derrick White appears to be the name gaining traction in the Bay.

  1. Doubt the Celtics are trading any of Tatum/Brown/White. Its most likely gonna be Jrue. Maybe Porzingis. But probably Jrue.
